@ Brightmon: Do you know if its possible for one to get at least a Driver's permit on d same day he goes to d DMV office? I plan to go there on Monday and take d test... I understand that it would take 3 months to get d license proper. I don't know why they can't just test someone right away and give him d License if he passes... What's your take on this?

the first stage in obtaining a license is the written and eye test, after which a date is fixed online for the driving test.This may take two weeks or more combine>Am talking about TX oo bt dont know about other states

you search for jobs yourself.your host,internet and you moving around would help you get one.

yes,medical is 6months and so u should be in US before 6th month or else you do another one here

Thanks guys for your advice... I followed it up yesterday by calling a cab company to get me a cab to d social security office,.. It was damn exppensive nd as d metre kept ticking, I almost had a heart attack!

Luckily, d cab guy gave me directions on how to use d bus and get to a place close to home from which I can get a cab for 10 bucks...

Thought I should share this with y'all...

mogzy: @gunners4U, sorry for responding quite late. I have been trying to tidy up some little issues around me lately.
I arrived on Wed 21st of Nov from Lagos and then showed up at the social security office at McKinney(Dallas)on the 26th Monday. I was asked to come back and apply the next Monday 3rd of Dec but went there 4th Tuesday, which I applied and I received the card by mail the following Monday 10th. So I would say I got the SSC within 5 business days from the date I applied but did not apply until 13 days after I arrived in the US.

@Temmytanny, Please how long did it take you to receive the GC after you went for the Biometric and was there any appointment again with the USCIS before the GC was mailed to you? I would appreciate your urgent response because I have decided to reschedule my flight to 10th of Jan. (the appointment is on 3rd of Jan).

try use google map or google earth if you have access to internet ,just look for Us embassy walter carrignton crescent,its same as eleke crescent

Since u werent married before you were granted visa,then u had no beneficiary. Getting married before leaving for US is good but i would advice you make a visit or two back to Nigeria before you request for your wife to join you in US in 5years time.Frequent phones calls (or even emails or FB chats)too are needed cos embassy may request for such.Thats my personal opinion.Gudluck

AMsorry to come in here,the figure you gave for the stadium in lagos is wrong,before it was 80000 but after putting seats,it dropped to 45000 .Please check ur record.liberty ibadan,amadu bello and MKO abiola stadium are all below 30000 since they now have seats in them. All these reduced during the 1999 under 21 worldcup

It's almost 3pm here so I'll just chill until tomorrow morning and call one of the cab numbers online and give them directions here... I just hope they no finish all my dollar savings... I was hoping they will automatically send SS card and GC to my address... but I've been reading experiences in this forum; and I think it's better I just find their office and apply in person...

I wanted to ask; besides the passport; what other document did they request from you when u were doing your application for Social Security card?

cabs might be expensive but its best to have your SSN(SSA)and GC,with that all other things would go easily.

Even if I get a job here; I have no clue how I'll b moving from place to place... So house; pls pray for me

If I get a job in another city with transportation easy; I wouldn't mind moving over n paying for house rent... Anyway its been about 10 days here and I'm told it will take 21 days to get my GC and SSN...

So house; it may b too early to complain- but keep me in your prayers as u look out for other oportunities for me

Thats why i keep thanking my host till date. He gave me his time at expense of his business. Just relax bro and try to see if you could do some walking around to the nearest shopping mall.You can apply for job once u get your GC and SSN,no matter how small it maybe just take it. Also use google and search for the nearest SSN office and also for local taxi that could take you there to do your SSN.

Guys ,America sweetooooo but only for those that are hardworking and focused. Been busy of late and BABA GOD has been making and opening new ways for me.
