Reacting to Aliyu’s comments, Wike on Tuesday accused Aliyu of betraying PDP in 2015. Governor Nyesom Wike of River state has taken a swipe at the ex-governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu over his statement. In an interview on Channels TV on Monday, Aliyu said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar did not pick Wike as his running mate because the governor “insulted his way to power.” He said: “You do not go around choosing people that will not complement you. You choose people who will complement your office. People that are ready to take over from you and will make you comfortable. “Unfortunately, I don’t know if it is his temperament. Sometimes when you speak too much, when you insult your way to power, it does not always happen. “I can count many people who he has insulted. People will say he is always speaking his mind. But there are times you don’t need to speak your mind.” Reacting to Aliyu’s comments, Wike on Tuesday accused Aliyu of betraying PDP in 2015. “In 2014/15, the same Aliyu Babangida was one of the those who, with other governors, were going round to bring down PDP. And of course he was happy he did that,” he said. According to Wike, Aliyu’s insistence that his protege will be governor in Niger has seen the party lose the governorship elections since 2015.

Let me use this medium to convey to you, my resignation from being a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Ward 5, Awuyemi, Okpella. My reason is borne out of my long held and well publicized position that it is the turn of the Southern part of Nigeria to produce the next president in line with the provisions of Article 7 of the party’s constitution. Since the party has jettisoned the provision and manipulated the convention by eliminating zoning, my aspiration as a member is impaired. The same Party that eliminated zoning has all of a sudden, settled for a running mate from the South in person of Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. I would have thought that having eliminated zoning, the candidate would choose his vice from any part of the country; including the zones of the North. This reality presents a hypocritical emanation that can neither stand the true test of justice, fairness and equity nor prospective legal challenges. For the above reasons only, I align myself with the considered standpoint of the APC Northern Governors who spoke so eloquently about the need to allow power to rotate to the South, in the true spirit of fairness, equity and justice. The considered and patriotic position of the APC Northern Governors remains unassailable, and I wholeheartedly align myself with their position; taking into account the heterogenous configurations of Nigeria. This is without any affiliation or involvement with the APC, whose hitherto uninspiring leadership I have been a vocal critic of, or any other political party. What the PDP power apparatchik has done was to supplant justice with injustice in its desperation to return to power. Power for power sake without recourse to the psyche of its members and the equitability of power acquisition and distribution, is an invitation to political instability. In arriving at this decision, I have interrogated all the scenarios and situations, and come to the conclusion that a healthy and robust political engagement derives from justice, respect for internal rules and regulations, and adherence to constitutional provisions rather than manipulation of processes to suit the aspirations of a few. I will remain true to my conscience and be driven by my convictions. If it was about self, I would be comfortable to remain within the party and patronizingly readjust my sensibilities to praise worship the candidate. But, by my orientation and background, I will be in constant conflict with my conscience if I ignore the therapy of balancing the political algorithms of a plural society that Nigeria has been. Ward Chairman, Sir, thank you for the support you have always given me; first, for standing down all pressure to suspend me when I took on Governor Obaseki in 2020, and many other times. Needless to say that all my predictions have come to pass, and those who insulted me in 2020 have also apologized in 2022; having now witnessed the instability within the Edo PDP as a result of Governor Obaseki’s overarching conduct. Politics must be played with some principles and certain convictions to free one’s conscience from conflict. Thank you for the opportunity and remain blessed. I hope that our political paths will cross again in the future. Sincerely yours, PRINCE KASSIM AFEGBUA. It is Idiotic for any one to think Peter Obi will defeat PDP/APC. Non of this folks shouting Obedient has ever participated in politics, truth is a party without structure can't win anything not just about Obi. If your party is not on ground you re not winning anything, Election is strategic, and also expensive, you must have true party men from the federal level down to Unit, Cell, and household. Obi can not Finance presidential election. His supporters can't follow their votes up from polling unit to RAG Centers and To LGA, this must be done accros all the Units in Nigeria. This is how APC and PDP have been winning Elections since 1999 till date. Partymanship is what wins elections. The Partyman sees the election as his own and not his principal's Election. A Partyman takes prides in wining his household, Cell, Unit, Ward LGA and State. LP does not have Partymen accross the federation. Therefore Obi will win only on Social Media but not any State. |
Peter Obi knows he is not going to win anything his greatest mistake was leaving PDP. His supporters are only based on social media, Labour Party does not have structure, no party members, no State EXco, no LGA Exco etc. Those shouting Obedient will all be disobedient on election day. They can't stand the presence of the ruling parties in their respective states. Imo and Ebony are APC, Abia and and Enugu are PDP, every bady in power have the primary responsibility of winning their state. The poor masses can't influence anything, |
Atiku/Wike is the strongest force PDP can muster at the moment to dismantle APC misrule in Nigeria. Atiku was able to defeat him because of Tambuwa betrayal to his long time friend (Wike). Wike has built himself a political stronghold in PDP, he knows how to relagate APC, this he has done several times in Rivers State. Only Ipopic children without political values distains him. |
Governor Nyesom Wike Rejects PDP Vice Presidential Candidacy, Nominates Donald Duke Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has rejected the offer of being the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate; instead, he nominated a former governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke for the position. Wike was touted as a possible running mate to the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar but the influential governor rooted for Mr. Duke, who was governor from 1999 to 2007. Impeccable sources told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that the former conceded the position because of his firm believe in Mr. Duke to better the electoral fortunes of the party, especially in the south and garnered more support from the youths. A journalist, Agba Jalingo corroborated the report in a Facebook post. He wrote: “Wike declines VP position to Atiku. Recommends Donald Duke.” Also, a media aide to Senator Sandy Onor (Cross River State PDP Governorship Candidate), Modlin Odu wrote: “Two days ago, I wrote that Cross River State will benefit greatly from an Atiku/Sandy pair for President and Governor. “Today, HE Nyesom Wike has rejected the Deputy position and nominated HE Donald Duke of Cross River State for it. It takes a lot of courage to do this. “I also wrote that South South will be a major determinant of who wins the Presidency should the entire North expectedly go with Atiku, South West with Tinubu and South East with Peter Obi. To appease Wike, his nomination will be given serious consideration by the Leadership of the party knowing his strength in South South. “As Governor, Donald Duke performed brilliantly in Cross River and as Vice President, we all know he would not fail especially now that PDP has learnt from previous mistakes and ready to serve Nigeria better. “Imagine a Donald/Sandy mix. Fine men of cosmopolitan broad mindedness. It should be crystal clear to every well meaning C’Riverian by now that our progress is in PDP, a party making strategic political moves that are highly advantageous to the State. “God has indeed, answered the prayers of the State.” Modlin post read. https://l.kphx.net/s?d=4948959381942872121&extra=Q1RSWT1ORyZMTkc9ZW4tVVM=

Good writeup, But you finally concluded that PO has lost the election |
The presidential primary elections of the APC and PDP are done and dusted ahead of the 2023 general elections APC's presidential primary polls saw the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while that of PDP saw the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar However, the outcome of both elections did not favour the southeastern region whose leaders are looking to lobby for a vice presidency slot An emerging report has confirmed that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other Igbo leaders will be holding an emergency meeting after the region lost out in its bid for the presidential ticket of APC and PDP. Leadership newspaper reports that the camp of the socio-cultural group and the Igbo leaders are not happy about the outcome of both primary elections. As gathered by Legit.ng, a source revealed that one of the agendas of the meeting is to deliberate on how they can lobby for the position of a running for both Atiku and Tinubu. The source further stated that Igbo leaders will also deliberate on the emergence of Atiku and Tinubu and take a decision on one person to support or not to support. He further added that the Igbo leaders will also take a decision on whether to urge all South-easterners to support a former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, who is now the candidate of the Labour Party (LP). The source said: “Ohanaeze and Igbo leaders of thought will have a meeting soon. After the meeting we will take a stand on the presidential primaries of the PDP and APC." 2023: Why we must have an Igbo president in Nigeria, Ohanaeze gives reasons Prior to the APC and PDP presidential primaries, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide called on all political leaders to allow southeast produce the next president of Nigeria. According to president-general of the association, Prof George Obiozor, the country must create a political equilibrium that accommodates all the regions. Going further, Obiozor pointed that it is only the Southeast that has not had a shot at the presidency since the return of democracy in 1999. 2023: Ohanaeze Ndigbo makes first statement after Tinubu declared to run for presidency Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Ohanaeze Ndigbo reacted to the declaration made by the national leader of the All Progressives, Bola Tinubu, on Monday, January 10, to run for the 2023 presidency. The Igbo socio-political group said it would continue with the insistence that it is the turn of the southeast region to produce a president in 2023. Describing Tinubu as a man of conscience, the spokesperson for the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Alex Ogbonnia, said the APC national leader should also be interested in justice and equity.

By Dakuku Peterside IN the race to breast the tape of the presidency in 2023, the most consequential decision as to who would fly the flag of the major parties is made by delegates – a new set of power brokers, thanks to section 84( of the amended Electoral Act.PDP delegates chose Atiku Abubakar, and APC delegates will select one from a pack of 13 ”shortlisted” aspirants shortly. The other parties, often referred to as fringe parties, will also choose presidential candidates. The next most consequential decision would be outside the purview of these “new gods of presidential nomination” called delegates. And it will be made by the nominated presidential candidates in consultation with a handful of party leaders. I am referring to the choice of presidential running mates, one of whm would be our next Vice President. The choice of the vice-presidential candidates made by the presidential candidates is not always a straightforward affair depending on the maturity of the democracy. In advanced democracies, the prominent basis for choosing a vice-presidential candidate is geopolitical electoral balancing or partnership that culminates in a qualified candidate to help the presumptive president run the state. The vice president, although having a limited constitutional role compared with the president, plays a vital role in leading the country. But most importantly, he must be very presidential as he is a heartbeat away from the president under emergency, for example, when the President is incapacitated, resigns or dies. Even though the first US Vice President, John Adams said the position was “the most insignificant invention ever contrived by man”, the position has come a long way since the 18th century. The selection of a running mate is complex, with all sorts of consideration outside the severe issues of a candidate’s suitability based on presidential qualities and capacity to lead. Whether in the APC, PDP, Labour, or any of the other parties in Nigeria, five things are topmost in choosing a vice president, and none of these affects the quality of governance The first is ethnic or geopolitical balancing. It is an unwritten rule that the president and the vice will not come from the same region, zone, or ethnic group. There is a North/South divide in this case, where if the president comes from the North, the vice president will come from the South and vice versa. The second primary consideration is religious balancing, often Christian versus Muslim and vice versa. Rarely will both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates be of the same religion. The case of Abiola/Kingibe in 1993 is an exception . The third and fourth factors are intra-party group interest; and the ability of the vice president to raise money to prosecute the election because presidential elections are very capital intensive. The fifth consideration is the ability of the vice president to win votes in the presidential elections. This is considered by looking at the political structure of the VP candidates or their popularity and electability. For now, PDP has produced a presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. However, he is playing a cat- and-mouse game, waiting for APC to choose its flag bearer first before deciding on a running mate. This has not stopped clandestine manoeuvres, speculations, high-wire politicking, and intrigues. In the APC, the potential running mate is a matter of conjecture, permutation, and strategic positioning by all those who are interested. I advocate that we have a paradigm shift in choosing VPs in Nigeria. Although the factors considered above in selecting a VP emanate from our peculiar political circumstances and history, and although some of them make sense and may be logical considerations, we must make them peripheral and auxiliary factors in choosing a VP candidate by the presidential candidates. At the bottom of the issues that will influence the choice of a running mate who is a potential vice president, in our clime , is the capacity to function as president. The potential VP must have a deep understanding of policies and economic issues in the country. He must understand and buy into the vision of the likely president and how he fits in with executing policies and projects to achieve that vision. Another important consideration would seem to be that of compatibility between the president and his deputy. Our next VP must have a demonstrable and proven ability to be a provider of solutions to national problems. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the club of governors in APC and PDP have emerged as the most crucial bloc in deciding who a potential running mate should be. My primary concern is not where the VP candidates come from but their suitability. Even the electorate does not pay much attention to who the vice-presidential candidates are. Often, the issue of VP is reduced to ethnic or regional sentiments. The common misconception that VPs do not matter in the political equation and are powerless in the scheme of things is wrong and must change with time. In the absence of linking the potential VPs to the quality of input and output of governance, three key issues stare us in the face as parties and presidential candidates choose VP candidates. First, Nigerians should demand to know our potential VP as much as we want to know our presidential hopefuls so we can make an informed decision. Second, there are certain minimal qualities a potential VP must possess for the joint ticket to earn our confidence. And finally, a VP is a president in the waiting, so he must share his idea of how he can turn around the country with the Nigerian people. The choice of a VP candidate should send a signal on what matters to our presidential candidates. Is it politics, mundane governance issues, economy, or new thinking on how to salvage Nigeria? We must acknowledge our time and realise that we need our best hands to bring us out of the political and economic quagmire. VP candidature is not a souvenir but a call to salvage the nation at a time of national economic and security crisis. The net effect of my proposition is that in the presidential democratic system, the executive at the centre of government is embodied in the president. As the executive head of the government, the president appoints and assembles all other members of the executive to collaborate with him to execute and enforce the law and lead the people to prosperity. One person the president must choose and run within the election is his VP. The VP is a critical stakeholder in the presidency and, as such, must be selected carefully. The choice of the VP must transcend parochialism and pedantic reasoning. The VP candidature is serious business and must be treated as such. I must argue that the choice of a president’s VP says a lot about the psychology and direction of the presidency if the presidential candidate wins. One can extrapolate, albeit unscientifically, about the presidency’s mood, feel, and impact. If the presidential candidate gets his first choice of appointment (the VP) wrong, how can we trust him to get other essential appointments to the executive arm of government right?

Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola the current Minister of the Federal Ministry of Interior of Nigeria and a former governor of Osun State says Bola Tinubu has assumed the god complex and abused his leadership. “We followed and served this leader with all our might. In fact, our loyalty to him had caused some people to start wondering if we were no longer Muslims,” he said. “But we were with him and served him according to the admonition of our forefathers, who said when serving anyone, we should do so with sincerity and loyalty; that if you regard anyone as your principal, you must serve him wholeheartedly. “Sadly, we didn’t know that while we wished him well, he didn’t think good of us. “However, because we placed him higher than where he ordinarily should be, he started to think he is our god. “Unfortunately, for him, we had sworn to God that whoever compares himself to him, we’d beg Him to bring down such a fellow.”

Many Abducted as Bandits Block Highway in Kaduna, Set Buses on Fire Many people have been feared kidnapped by bandits who attacked travellers along the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari Road in Kaduna State. Channels Television reported that the bandits blocked the highway on Tuesday May 31, and also set about eight vehicles ablaze. They later took an unspecified number of travellers, mostly women and children, to an unknown location. It is unclear if any life was lost to the attack. Chairman of Birnin Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Nagwari, confirmed the attack in a statement. Nagwari said the bandits blocked the Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna Highway and intercepted a convoy of motorists with security escorts between Kuriga and Manini, near Udawa where they left with an unspecified number of people into the bush. The Chairman of Birnin Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance who expressed fear of the armed men forming an alliance with the Ansaru terrorist group to declare war on the residents of Birnin-Gwari, advised the people of the area to stop travelling through the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari Highway until when the security situation there improved. He said; “We had always appreciated efforts of security personnel in their passion to curtail the security challenges bedevilling the Birnin-Gwari general area, but our people have reached a point of no return,” Nagwari said, noting that necessitated the “need for the people of Birnin-Gwari and communities along the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari Highway to halt with immediate effect travelling on this notorious highway until the security situation improves. “This organisation hereby advises all our citizens to exercise maximum restraint and obey all rules of the land and seclude themselves in prayers for Allah’s intervention to deal with these terrorists and their collaborators within our communities. “Equally, we pray for the safe return of our people, mostly women and children that were abducted.”

Terrorists that attacked the Abuja-Kaduna AK9 train on March 28th, 2022, have released another video, showing eight of the 62 passengers in captivity begging the Federal Government to rescue them before they are killed. The terrorists during the attack killed nine people and kidnapped over 60 passengers, but in the latest video, Sadiq, son of Convener of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi, and a woman, who claimed to be Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s classmate, were seen appealing to Federal Government to grant the terrorists’ demand and rescue them from captivity. The video, which shows eight victims (five men kneeling down and three women sitting on a blue trampoline, also shows one of the masked terrorists, wielding an AK47 rifle. The terrorist at the beginning of the video said, the video was at the instance of the victims who begged them (terrorists) to allow them speak to government. According to the terrorist, “we are the thieves that captured these people in the train along Abuja-Kaduna route. The people are appealing to us that they want to talk to the government. So, we give them chance to talk to the Federal Government and it is left for you (government) to listen to them or abandon them”. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi urged federal government’s intervention for their rescue, saying that most of the 62 victims are sick. “My name is Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, one of the captives of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack. We are appealing to the Federal Government once again to come to our aid. We have been here for 62 days,” he said. Mrs Gladys, who claimed to be Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s classmate in the law school, said she is worried because she left a son who is a sickler back at home. As she broke down in tears, Gladys appealed particularly to the Vice President to come to their aid and ensure their rescue from the terrorists’ den. She said, “My name is Gladys Moren. I am appealing particularly to Professor Yemi Osinbajo who was my class mate 78/79 Law School. You are a grandfather and a father; come to our aid because we have been here for 62 days and I have a son who is a sickler; I don’t know his condition now.” Another victim, Maryam Abubakar, said she is in captivity with her husband and four children, two of whom are currently sick. “I’m one of the captured passengers on the train with my husband and four children. Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has congratulated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his emergence as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate. Fayose, who also commended the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for remaining “consistent in action and character,” added that “for accepting the outcome of the presidential primary and also supporting the winner, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Governor Wike has further written his name with gold on the sands of time of politics in Nigeria.” He said; “To my friend and brother, Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, thank you for not abandoning the party when it needed you the most. |

This comes after the party’s presidential primary election that was held last weekend. A former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader, Edwin Clark, has called for the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu. This comes after the party’s presidential primary election that was held last weekend. The elder statesman condemned the action of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, who stepped down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the presidential primary election. Atiku subsequently emerged as the presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 election. This was disclosed in a statement signed by Clark on Monday. The statement read, “I decided to issue this press release because of the worrying occurrences in our polity vis-a-vis the dappled party primaries being conducted, across the country; the reported outrageous financial inducements of delegates and the cynical dollarization of the electoral process. These happenings give strong warnings of, more likely, deleterious outcomes of the 2023 general elections, mainly the presidential, and their aftermaths. “Most disturbing is what happened at the Special National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Abuja, on Saturday, 28th May 2022. I followed the live broadcasts of the proceedings, keenly, until about 12.30 am on Sunday, the 29th. I was quite impressed by the efforts of the Convention Committee, which was headed by former Senate President, Senator David Mark, and his assistants, particularly, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri. “But, sadly, the outcome of the election leaves much to be desired; it was very unjust and rather unwholesome. It will definitely impact severe, adverse ramifications on the future unity of the country. “I was alarmed by the outrageous and Machiavelli manner in which Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State, was so apparently ‘arranged’ to announce his withdrawal from the contest, at the last minute; his speech changed the mood of the event. That was done in order to foist another Northerner as the party’s flag bearer; having regard to the fact that Governor Aminu Tambuwal was the only aspirant from the whole of the North West, which had about 192 delegates at the Convention. “What Tambuwal did was not only dishonourable but also a serious electoral abnormality and a tragic betrayal of national patriotism for hidebound interests. “Another Northern aspirant, Mr Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a businessman from Borno State, had, earlier, also suddenly, withdrawn from the contest, citing its obscene monetization as his reason; but we now know better. It is now widespread understanding that there were pressures mounted on Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, to also withdraw, while Tambuwal deliberately delayed his action till the last minute. By so doing, unduly swept his North West votes to Atiku Abubakar. “One can now appreciate the reasons given by Mr Peter Obi for his withdrawal from the PDP, both as a member and as an Aspirant, a few days before the party’s primary. And I would think that what he did was, without doubt, in respect, or obedience, to the position of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum. “Unfortunately, some aspirants from the South believed that, with the resources and facilities at their disposal, their elders no longer matter, and disregarded, with impunity, the patriotic advice on the need to be steadfast on the position of the zoning of the Presidency to the South. They never minded that what we have been advocating was in their interest. They proved themselves to be selfish and arrogant and thought they could win on their own steam. They failed; I can only hope that they have, now, learned their lessons. “Even much worse, in the extreme, was the action of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, in his open visit to Governor Tambuwal to congratulate and hail him, in his words, as ‘the hero of the Convention’. This clearly reveals his partiality and predilection in the processes leading to the baffling conclusion of the PDP Presidential Primary. His undignified and parochial conduct, to please his northern principals, is not only a big disgrace to the office he occupies but, also, a sad display of lewd subservience to the political subjugation of one ethnic group, in a diverse country like Nigeria. “We had earlier suspected that he was in favour of a northern candidate, when on the day of his inauguration as National Chairman, last year, he, needlessly, said during his speech, that he would resign if a Northerner emerged as the presidential candidate of the party. “Senator Ayu has failed to realize that what we are fighting for affects all minorities in Nigeria. The Southern Nigeria relationship with the Middle Belt is well established, dating back to the First Republic, during the period of Dr. J. S. Tarka, from today’s Benue State, a founding member of the then, United Middle Belt Congress, and the strong alliance with Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Action Group. The relationship subsisted during the Second Republic, when the minorities of the South and the minorities of the North combined to fight for a common course; the inclusion, and full participation of all minorities in the politics and governance of the country, of which I was the leader. “Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s appalling, thoughtless and unpatriotic public conduct bears grave negative consequences. He should, therefore, no longer consider himself fit and proper to retain his position as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and should resign now," the statement added. https://saharareporters.com/2022/05/31/%E2%80%98unpatriotic%E2%80%99-pdp-chairman-ayu-should-resign-supporting-atiku%E2%80%99s-emergence-presidential

Okowa is politically invalid, he cannot pull the required trigger to ensure PDP victory in South South, the mistake Atiku would be doing is ignoring Wike's political might, if power must return to the South I think there is nothing wrong if Wike works for Tinubu. The Indigenous People of Biafra has warned the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his Imo State counterpart, Hope Uzodimma, against the “secret” plot to cede some communities in Imo State to Rivers State. The group alleged that there was an “illegal undocumented treaty” to cede communities of Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area in Imo to Rivers via a “crooked financial inducement” by Wike. In a statement, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, warned of “catastrophic consequences and futuristic destructive effects” that would follow such development if allowed to sail through. The group also advised the affected Imo communities not to be enticed by the pecuniary inducement that would be attached to such concession, warning that they would regret it in the end. It listed some of the affected communities to include Umuapu community, Aware community, Ihe community, Obeti community, and Asa community. The statement partly read, “Following an illegal undocumented treaty to cede communities of Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area from Imo State to Rivers State via a crooked financial inducement by current Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, we wish to warn that such project be called to a halt to avert inevitable consequences. “We suggest to the communities that fall into this deceptive venture masterminded by Wike to retrace their steps considering that this singular act could attract futuristic destructive effects. IPOB was intimated with the information regarding Governor Wike’s plan which includes conditional future promises and having gone through these moves, realised that Wike will abandon them in future because governor Wike cannot be in charge of Rivers State beyond his tenor as a current Governor. “Wike in his promises dangles a deceptive monetary bait value of N150,000 monthly payment per family. Those who think that it will be consistent will regret it, you cannot for the sake of N150,000 and mortgage the lives of unborn children in those communities. “Any community in Ohaji Egbema LGA of Imo State that wishes to join Rivers State due to poor economic state and the hope of N150,000 should know that Wike would not be the Rivers State governor forever, therefore should remain where God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama placed them as the near future would be greater.” The secessionist group added, “It is a known fact that Imo State government failed in their obligations as it concerns the predicaments they are facing in that area but they must forget Wike with his offer. Wike’s deceptive offer would harm them and their children in the future as such may not be sustainable by successive governments Moreover, Biafra restoration approaches hastily. “IPOB is advising them to retrace their steps and watch what God Almighty has in stock for them, changing God Almighty’s plans for children will harm the communities in the future, for God to have placed you where you are today does not mean that he has abandoned you. “The communities or anybody persuading them to change their state of origin identity and be acquired like slaves with the cash value of N150,000 is evil and must be treated as criminal because we don’t see where old men and women, youths and educated people would allow such an undocumented territorial treaty due to hunger and abandonment. “This is a call for Nyesom Wike with his slave-master mentality which is targeted at the natural resources and never for the love for a fellow human. With the same opportunity, we call on Hope Uzodinma, the Governor Of Imo State, to look into the welfare of these communities and those already ceded to Rivers State be returned to Ohaji Egbema LGA of Imo State as such would foster harmony.”

Faber:These guys (Tambuwal,Udom Emmanuel, Ihedioha, Ayu, Obaseki) are kids compare to Wike... Main while he is a Rivers Governor, if you don't get it forget about it. Wike has helped them in one way or the other in their political careers. |
Atiku should play a very smart game, Accommodate Wike as running mate, there is non in PDP from the South at the moment that has the kind of political strength as Wike. Also the PDP should remember that Wike/Rivers State has the second highest No of votes in Southern Nigeria. An Atiku/Wike mandate will pull the required force to face APC. The task now is to Rescue Nigeria from the maladministration of Buhari/APC. |
As envisaged, Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, and Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, fought the closest battle for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday. Combined, they got 83 percent of the 752 valid votes from delegates. Atiku, with 371 votes, outscored Wike, with 237. Atiku beat Wike by a margin of 134 to become the party’s flag bearer for the second consecutive election. Although conventional wisdom was that Atiku was the strongest candidate on the ballot, Wike had garnered support in his nationwide tour, prompting many analysts to predict a neck-and-neck race. Some even ventured that he would win the ticket in the absence of a northern consensus candidate. But Atiku came good at the end of the day. Here are the reasons Atiku won, as gleaned by TheCable. 1. TAMBUWAL’S RELUCTANT WITHDRAWAL Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state and former speaker of the house of representatives, did the unexpected when he decided to step down for Atiku just before voting began. It was a surprise because he had refused all along, despite efforts by Aliyu Gusau, former national security adviser, and Attahiru Bafarawa, himself a former governor of Sokoto state. Tambuwal believed it was Atiku that should step down and back him, being a younger candidate. He ran against Atiku in the primary in 2018, and despite the heavy backing of Wike, he lost. Going into this year’s primary, Tambuwal had no fewer than 100 delegates from the north-west on his side. Imo delegates, under the leadership of Emeka Ihedioha, Tambuwal’s former deputy in the house of reps, were also in his corner. But the northern leaders eventually prevailed upon him that Atiku had a wider spread across the 36 states and he should consider northern interest first. He succumbed a few hours to the start of the convention, boosting Atiku’s chances and possibly demoralising other northern delegates who had pledged support to Wike. 2. DELEGATE CAMPING Atiku, a veteran of indirect primaries dating back to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1993, pulled yet another trick from the bag when he re-enacted the camping of delegates at the Sheraton Abuja Hotel before the convention. TheCable understands that he camped 275 “sure” delegates at the hotel and cut them off from communicating with the outside world, effectively insulating them from any influence from other aspirants. He still needed more delegates to be sure of winning the ticket, which he got when Tambuwal stepped down and directed his supporters to thumbprint Atiku. The “camping” tactic was used to good effect by Atiku in previous primaries, but it did not work in 2015 as the All Progressives Congress (APC) insisted on housing all the delegates. 3. SAMUEL ORTOM’S DOUBLE GAME Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, was initially thought to be an associate of Wike until events started unfolding with the election of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the party last year. Ortom, TheCable understands, was the one who touted Ayu and assured Wike that the former senate president would be “neutral”. However, Ayu is a well-known age-old associate of Atiku. He was removed as minister by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2006 in the heat of the face-off between Obasanjo and Atiku. Ayu was the DG of the Atiku’s presidential campaign in 2007. While the southern governors wanted PDP to zone the presidential ticket to the south, Ayu worked against it. Ortom, who chaired the committee on zoning, left the race open without making any definite recommendation. It was at this stage that it became clear that Atiku was having his way in the party. David Mark, also from Benue like Ortom and Ayu, was said to be more comfortable with Atiku as the presidential flag bearer. He chaired the convention. Ayu would call Tambuwal “hero of the convention” the day after Atiku got the ticket. 4. NO ‘VOTE AND SNAP’ Although a lot of money is believed to have been shared by the biggest aspirants to induce delegates, with Atiku reportedly offering the largest before and during the convention, the PDP leadership, through the election committee, banned delegates from taking their phones to the polling booths. This was a masterstroke. Delegates are normally paid in part and promised the balance after they had voted, taken a picture of their ballot paper and presented it. However, the ban on phones meant people could now effectively vote for their choices without being accountable to anyone. This tactic also worked in favour of Atiku — many northern delegates had also reportedly collected money from other aspirants and were now free from showing evidence of “delivery”. 5. THE ATIKU FACTOR Atiku might have failed to get elected as president since he started trying 29 years ago but he is one of the finest politicians around. He has cultivated an extensive network of loyal supporters over the years across every nook and cranny of Nigeria. Having served as vice-president for eight years, between 1999 and 2007, Atiku has continued to be relevant politically despite attempts by Obasanjo to dim his light. Although he has fallen out with some of his associates over the years, he has always managed to keep in touch with them and easily revives old alliances. While Wike was relying on his field work and war chest to get the PDP ticket, Atiku was working behind the scenes on the power brokers inside and outside the party to pull the strings for him. Getting Tambuwal to withdraw, even if reluctantly, was perhaps the biggest deciding factor in his victory. Recommendations: Atiku should be magnanimous in victory, unites the aspirants to work with him and for him to ensure PDP victory in the general election. Atiku should consider using Wike as his Vice Presidential candidates as to muster the required force for the general elections. |
Wike is still relevant to the Party, he is courageous and full of power, he is not a coward like some from the South East. Atiku should ignore him at his own peril. Rivers has over 2 million votes in WIKE's Vault. The best Atiku can do is to be magnanimous in victory, approach Wike, partner with him, possibly give him the Vp slots and see PDP ride to victory. If Atiku try to victimize him, he will deliver Rivers presidential votes to Tinubu and ATIKU will have just 371 votes in from Rivers |

Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party only in March, appears to be in an unholy alliance with Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant, Nyesom Wike, in the ongoing convention in Abuja. SaharaReporters learnt from competent sources that Kwankwaso collected $15,000 from Wike for each delegate from Kano State and had also camped “44 national delegates” in an undisclosed hotel for the Rivers governor. The former Kano governor, who although officially resigned his membership of the PDP on March 29, 2022, is still in touch with some stalwarts in the party. “Kwankwaso has collected 15,000 dollars each for Kano delegates with 44 national delegates camped in a secret hotel for Wike,” a top source in the ongoing PDP convention told SaharaReporters on Saturday morning. SaharaReporters earlier today reported how former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Wike, among other presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party were in a battle of dollars splash on the delegates voting at today’s crucial presidential primary. It had been reported that each delegate at the special convention had been given over $50,000 bribe to sway their votes in favour of particular aspirants. No fewer than 811 delegates are expected to decide the fate of the PDP presidential aspirants at the ongoing convention. The 811 delegates of the party consist of one national delegate elected from each of the 774 local government areas and one special delegate per state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from among persons living with disabilities. Top sources had informed SaharaReporters on Saturday that Atiku, Wike, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, were competing in the splash of thousands of dollars on the delegates and it was now a “matter of highest bidder.” “Each of the PDP delegates has got $50,000 for now; Wike, 15,000 dollars; Atiku, 20,000 dollars; Saraki, 10,000 dollars and Tambuwal, 10,000 dollars,” one of the sources said. For months, the aspirants had been traversing the country and offering bribes to delegates across states in attempt to woo delegates to vote for them. The “money politics” in the PDP had not gone down with some of the aspirants who feared they could not match the lavish spending of the leading aspirants and quit the contest and the party. Only on Saturday morning, one of the presidential aspirants of the PDP, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, withdrew from the race. The former Managing Director of FSB International Bank, announced his withdrawal from the race in a letter addressed to Dr Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the PDP, following the path of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, who abandoned the race and also dumped the party for Labour Party days ago. But unlike Obi, Hayatu-Deen promised to remain in the opposition party. https://saharareporters.com/2022/05/28/pdp-convention-ex-governor-kwankwaso-receives-15000-each-kano-delegate-camps-44-national
