VincentTobe:
Good morning all, please my request for emergency appointment was denied but i am still seeing the option in the U.S embassy website. I want to know if I should apply again and also while applying for the previous one i uploaded my I-20, sevis fee receipt, passport and visa fee payment slip. Please is there any other supporting document i should upload to boost my chances of getting it approved this time.
Thank you
When are you expected to resume, I think that can also affect the decision to grant you an emergency appointment especially if you apply too early.

Hello, my bro applied for a Master in Mechanical Engineering at Louisiana and just received his 1-20 for an August 16th resumption. He wants to know how early he can start the visa application to enable him getting a visa appointment in Lagos.

We have forgotten how the system works and want to learn from the experiences and trends of others here. When should he start the application online? (April, May, June or July)? What does the US embassy recommend?

Thanks.
He should start NOW. In Abuja, the closet interview date is October 2023, I’m certain it’s the same in Lagos.
If he waits even a second longer, he might not get an interview appointment this year.

Please can one change from Lagos to Abuja even after filling the ds-160 and paying the visa fee under Lagos for the purpose of getting an earlier date @ Terry
I'm sorry, I don't know a lot about moving visa appointments to a different state.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 6:46pm On Feb 09, 2023
Abuja embassy just released new dates. Before now, the earliest was January 2024.
For those who want earlier dates, keep searching for dates. Don’t give up.

Victor1405:
Good evening house, I would like to ask if it’s possible to change a Lagos location to Abuja for the visa interview due to not having a closer date as the date I have in Lagos is July and my school resumes in may is it possible to go look for a date in Abuja? Or how can I go about this.
Your support will be appreciated.
I would advise you to stay in Lagos because the earliest date in Abuja right now is January 2024. Just keep searching for dates in Lagos and if you don't see, you can defer your admission till Fall.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 8:57pm On Jan 19, 2023
Yes you can. But you won’t be allowed into the country until it’s close to your resumption date.

tbh2053:
So, it means I can go to the embassy in February, even though school starts in September?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 1:20pm On Jan 11, 2023
Exactly…
So respectfully provide whatever “help” or insight you feel you can give and leave them to plead their case to the Visa Officer who can either choose to acknowledge their lack of preparation with a denial or reward them with a visa.

BigIyanga:
Neither are you.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 1:08pm On Jan 11, 2023
And last time I checked YOU ARE NOT A VISA OFFICER.

BigIyanga:
Why dont you answer all their questions. You really should not be mad about how folks respond. Nobody owes anyone any soothing response. This is not a therapy forum, cos VOs are going to batter and kill your fragile ego if you’re unprepared. You can do your best by answering all the questions. What gap years are you talking about??
She just told you she currently works as an auxiliary nurse and decided to further her career by getting a BSN. At this point, you are reading just to respond without understanding. Why are you guys so disrespectful and making a fuss out of this.
You tried to “help her” while being condescending. How do you expect her to take it while bombarding her with questions. If you don’t want to answer questions or you feel the questions are beneath you, kindly move to the next post.

BigIyanga:
You’re a deluded and confused person. Good luck in your delusion. VO is still going to know what is your occupation, salary in order to determine how sustainable is your self-funding part of 75%.
You’re still going to prove to VO that nursing is your passion and how your gap yrs helped to inform your decision.
What auxiliary nursing degree/certificate do you have?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 4:26pm On Jan 10, 2023
I don’t think the current amount in both your parents account is enough to cover the total amount listed by the school. Combined the amount you have is N12m and the school’s estimated cost of attendance is $65k (29m) per year. How do you plan to cover the deficit?
You have to resolve this before you appear before a VO.

Also your chances of getting a visa this January is virtually nonexistent. In Abuja currently, the earliest available interview date is November 2023. I’m guessing Lagos is the same because a lot of people transferred their interviews to Lagos after Abuja’s embassy closed and they are yet to get a date. So I’ll suggest deferring to a different session.

LaCotti:
Hi everybody,

I got accepted into two MPH programs in the USA: Tulane and NYU to start this January.

The decisions came in December last year. I’m yet to get the i20. One of the schools sent in an affidavit of support to fill. Total estimate is about 65k USD (30 m). I want to use my dads account as my sponsor/guarantor. The problem is he has only 7m in his account. I don’t know if I can also use my late mums account. She has 5m in that account. Also what are my chances of even getting a visa as resumption date is very close and I don’t even have i20 yet.

I’ll appreciate all suggestions and comments.

Thank you.

I think it’s ok to use a statement within April 2022- November 2022. As long as it’s within 6 months before your interview, that’s considered current and can be presented at the embassy.

Emmanuelkanayo1:
Good Morning Great people of Nairaland , I have a statement of an account from my sponsor but the issue is that it is from April 2022 to Nov 2022, can I take this statement to the embassy or will it affect my chances of getting a F1 Visa? Please I need some guidance if it can be used this January .

Did you check the website to see if there's a way to contact the Abuja Embassy, like a phone number?

I think you are the only person who can answer this question. Like why did you decide to ditch your degree in Biochemistry for an Msc in IT. If you can't answer that question, I'll suggest don't bother wasting your time going to the embassy for a visa.

I believe it means whatever financial documents you submit must be current, like bank statements or other financial documents submitted to show you are eligible to fund your expenses.

Desire1996:
All financial documentation must be dated
within 12 months of applicant's intended
program start date.
Please can someone explain to me what they mean by this because am a bit confused please

Try Egypt air or Royal Air Maroc. You can also use google flights to compare costs.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 2:09am On Jan 07, 2023
I will say focus on fall, because the closest available dates right now are mostly in the fall. That way you have enough time to gather your documents and apply.

good morning guys can I still apply for may intake or I should just focus on fall

I don’t think it should, they are both different visas.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 5:45pm On Dec 31, 2022
I guess it depends on how you sell yourself and your current career path. If you have been working in a computer field even without a Bsc, you can work on convincing the VO that you want to officially get a Bsc in this field and maybe an advanced degree because it aligns with your future ambition.

Be prepared for the tough questions and use google to find schools.

As for transfer, we don’t know what classes you completed and if the school you end up choosing will allow you transfer the course after evaluating them. Different schools have different requirements. Like I said earlier, you have your work cut out and even though everyone is not saying it in the language you feel is appropriate, they are right.
Best of luck wink

Please I need help, I'm almost running into depression.

I have a sponsor who wants to sponsor me to study in the USA. I've written and passed my IELTS exam, Money isn't much of a problem also, I've traveled to the UK before. Here's where my wahala is;

I'm 31 years old, I'm a technician, I've been to the university but didn't complete it, I want to apply for a BSc in computer engineering, my waec result is from 2008 although I wrote and passed Neco in 2020. I want to know if it would be possible and also which schools can I apply. Another thing is, am I to apply as a transfer student or new student?

Good morning, I would recommend even booking an appointment in January if you plan to go August because there are very few available dates. For example in Abuja the closest appointment date for F1 Visa right now is November 2023. The race to get an interview appointment is so difficult and you can barely get a close date. However, I know they may not let you into the country till it’s close to your conference date. So don’t book a flight till maybe July or even August.

LawyerBB:
Good morning everyone, please can I get a reply. Someone who has a conference to attend to in August 2023 and books for an appointment in April, is it too early?
People asked her to re schedule to a month close to August, if not they may not grant her the visa based on the fact that it is too early.
Please we are novice on this

Most times it's advisable to fill your DS160 yourself that way you can defend your answers and you know what you filled in there. We have had cases here where an agent filled wrong info for an applicant and it ended up costing them. You don't want to be in that position.

BigIyanga:
Is it advisable for an agent to fill your DS 160 in order to fast track your your interview date?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 4:52pm On Dec 28, 2022
To the best of my knowledge, you can not schedule an interview appointment without paying the Visa fee. You will need the Visa fee receipt when creating a profile to schedule an interview.

LawyerBB:
Good evening everyone, please am still trying to understand the page, am new but a brother referred me here, I want to schedule appointment but I don't have money yet can I schedule and pay towards the day of the interview(for US)

Different schools have different requirements. Some schools require the student to complete a semester with them before their Sevis can be transferred to a different school. I would say contact the school or check their website for this information.

CallMeByMyName:
When I google search, I saw student must register or complete a semester before the transfer can be done. Do you actually know anybody who have succeeded doing 1-20 Transfer without showing up at the school that issue the F1 Visa

If he paid the money into your account, you didn't need to mention him as a sponsor.

Jaaj:
He actually did , he paid it to my account so I took two statement , my account and his , when I was trying to explain to the Vo , she didn’t even wanna hear anything . Guess she didn’t buy my story , but I was been truthful
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 8:35pm On Dec 22, 2022
It is advised to travel before the program start date. I think this should be indicated in the I20. I also know some programs have mandatory orientation for students and that usually is done before the start of classes. It is best to indicate that you will be arriving in the US before your program start date. If for some reason you cant make it, ask the school for an extension.

Noraht:
Please guys I'm filling my Form DS-160, I'm a bit confused.. my program start date is 10th of January but classes starts January 17th.. do i have to travel before the program start date which is on the 10th of Jan or i can travel 3 days to the start of classes (14th of Jan)... And also should i indicate that as my intended arrival date knowing it's 4 days past the start of my program but 3 days to the start of classes?? Would i be denied visa for that reason?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Terry27: 8:22pm On Dec 22, 2022
Yes, you can. Its within 120 days of your start date.

Please don't wait, start now to process your visa. The available date for Abuja currently is September 2023, that's already fall. Most programs expect you to be in the US by August if you plan to begin in the Fall semester. Congratulations on your offer.

Mickeywilliams:
I've received an official fully funded PhD offer from the University of Florida for the summer term.

Next is visa ooo. Lol.

I think I prefer Abuja. I'll have to wait for January.
