Tips for saving cost while driving on Uber : When driving on Uber, the little things really do matter, you want to save as much as possible on costs while simultaneously increasing your earnings, this post is dedicated to showing you the little things that make a difference.
When you receive a new request, the first thing you should do is call the rider, don't drive to the location of the request just yet.
This is for a myriad of reasons, first, a rider may move their pin to a different location from where the request is initiated, maybe they can't find available cars where they are, so he/she moves his/her pin to where there are available cars.
Or the rider is only requesting the ride for someone else, who is in a different location.
Calling the rider first takes care of all of this, instead of driving all the way to the rider's supposed GPS location only to find out that is not where the ride is needed can cause either the rider or the driver to cancel, that is money lost for money not even earned.
There are other reasons, but by now I'm sure you get the point, the moral of the story is; make sure to call first.
Another tip is, the air conditioner doesn't have to be on full blast all the time, just cool enough that the cabin of the car is comfortable. Do not put the AC on full blast unless you notice your rider is uncomfortable or maybe if they are wearing a suit, or clothing that usually causes heat. Direct the AC vents at the rider, this will create the illusion that the AC is cooler than it really is since it is blowing directly at them. Use your discretion but always make sure to ask if the rider is comfortable.
Make sure you are conversant with the city, this reduces the amount of fuel burnt due to wrong turns and longer routes, it also makes your riders happy. Riders are inherently suspicious when you take wrong turns and don't seem to know where you are going, they think you are trying to increase the trip length so as to charge more. Besides you do not want to get your rider late for a meeting.

Uber uses quite a large amount of data, as it stands, the cost of data is quite high considering the state of the economy at this time, it is advisable to get an affordable as well as efficient subscription. Otherwise you would spend a lot on data. I would advise to use a dual sim phone for Uber with an alternate network provider as the back-up option in case you are in an area with limited coverage.
Service your vehicle properly to make sure the engine is as efficient as possible, check your tyre pressure regularly.
Another thing is, do not drive around looking for trip requests, they will find you. Sometimes however, it is absolutely necessary to drive from an area with generally low requests, such as small satellite towns. Also, there are sometimes when you are in area with high supply of e-cabs in the immediate area ( you can know this by looking at taxi app passenger versions, on the home screens you can see the e-cabs around you), you may want to move a short distance away just so trip requests can find you more easily. If these situations come up and you absolutely have to move, drive slowly.
In fact, even when you have riders in your car, it is still advisable to drive slow unless the rider demands otherwise, avoid down-kicking, this forces a lot of petrol into the combustion chamber which then burns the petrol out very quickly.

Abeg, no driver will be foolish enough to leave a second app on while on a trip.
There is a difference in putting a app on and being online.

Besides your second app is on buh maybe offline. Yet it runs background. Next time ones you exit an app. Go to the background and remove it as well. Until u see the small logo off ur display screen at the top left corner of your phone . I can see it on the screenshot you shared with u comment.

If same error occurs after DAT. Then its your GPS/phone OS killing your earning not Taxify

Update both.

Taxify app is just too trashy. I already have three complains just within a month on taxify.
Check out the pickup location and drop-off location.
I never had any problems with uber but their fares are too low.
Making a complain on taxify is just useless cos I reviewed a trip since last week Monday but got no feedback since then. So I didn't bother reviewing, was contended with what riders paid
Guy, u are stressing the phone. You ve 2 apps making use of your phone GPS at the same time.

Once you get a request on Taxify. Simply close your uber app and don't let it run background

Also take note, if your Google map is on default with uber app. Trust me, its gonna alter ur Taxify movement by displaying total time online on uber as Taxify trip covered

Its been a long read so far but also Educative. Please i have a few practical questions;

I am based in Lagos but i currently work in the East. I am planning to resign and move back to Lagos so that i can focus on my budding business.

I am planning to start Uber/Taxify on the side......... (I don't have a car yet), so i am intending to take a car on HP.

Of course, I cannot survive on my business yet as its still at its infant stage. Hence me wanting to start Uber.

From experience, do you guys think its a good idea to resign and start Uber?? This is cus i also feel it will afford me opportunity and time to also run my personal hustle
.

For most people. Uber/Taxify is a temporary business.

Buy a car, get a good driver and keep your job.

Only existing drivers will tell you the truth about the business. It isn't easy. Buh we are doing it and meeting up.

I'm doing better than most I met on the field doesn't make it that rosy.

From experience I do average of 135k when I started. Of recent I do below 110k ... Note all gross earnings

While many do hardly make above 90k a week. These are drivers that when they do,. They will be so happy to screenshot that achievement and when ever they are back to below 90k, they either mute or disappear from the thread

Let them start using driverless cars, before they introduce it here this generation will be long gone. Nigeria is not ready yet
I pray those driverless cars can identify potholes, out smart danfo drivers for Lagos, and have a rodit that can hold danfo drivers or trailer wey bash the car... Else insurance won't accept comprehensive claims on those cars

Car care tips. For drivers.

1k fuel with minimal traffic should average 55km/32miles if you getting better mileage you are in business, if not your car is not happy, work smart get it fixed.

Check serpentine belt (fanbelts) for cracks, check tyres for uneven wear, rotate your tyres back to front at each engine oil drain (tyres will last longer).

Make it a ritual to check engine oil, and coolant every morning.

Check spare tyres and ensure you have air in it.

if your vehicle uses a timing belt ask the owner when last he Replaced it, because if it snaps when you driving, they will claim you killed the car grin

Most Gsm networks are unreliable so if you noticed no request after some time, try running thru your statistics on the app to see if you online or offline. Smart drivers use a WiFi plan as main and Gsm as backup.

May the force be with you.

I noticed that my car slide further before brakes holds. I have recently change the front brake pads and rear brake lining

Similar to my daily schedule.

5 am -11 am morning drive
11 am to 2 pm break time ( period of fewer resquests)
3 pm _ 10 pm evening drive. (If my intended last trip ends before 10:15pm I keep my app open till 10:30 pm sometimes
Advice to new drivers.

It's not always easy when you start base on the numbers of request you get.

Study your movements pattern from day 1.

Identify area where you ve gotten requests with lesser waiting time.

Keeping your rider and be friendly. ( If riders like you and the way you drive. You will get more offline trips from them which automatically add up to ur earnings)

Have a target and don't be desperate. Eg 15k per day. Trust me 12k per day isn't bad for new drivers.

If u own you car/ on rentals, save up at least 6k per day.

Always ve a break time before you breakdown

Pls use Google to calculate distance from pickup to destination. (Km x 65 = ? ) + ( time × 10 = ?) + (base fare 400)Then charge the rider. When you leave the location and ve a good reception . end the trip and do a fare review to Taxify.

Eg: ikoyi to ipaja covers 48km in 72mins

48km x 65) + ( 72 x 10) + ( base fare #400)= 4300

During surge .. Multiply total by surge.

Eg surge 1.8x.

4300 x 1.8 = 7750 naira

In my opinion, its risky considering the distance about 900miles (that's like 5days of his regular trips in lagos). I will also suggest that the car be taken for checks with your mechanic when he returns, major part of the trip will be through bad roads.

Moreso how long will the trip last? If he returns before the week runs out will the car be on the road for the remainder of the week?
Haba! Lagos to abuja is about 328miles (less than 780km) and you can cover that in 2dats regular trips within Lagos if your average daily earns is 17k to22k

Due to the bad road. Pls check the car when he returns. Besides the driver is not meant to take the car out side Lagos/Ogun without partner's consent as stated in every/most agreement on both rentals n HP.
