Let's not rewrite history. We were on the edge for the knockout qualifiers for the 2022 world cup. Cape Verde needed a win in Lagos and were dominant even though they had a draw. And this wasn't even the decider for the qualifier itself. Also, "always" is not an appropriate term for something that occured twice. He qualified us for 2 tournaments (World cup 2028 and AFCON 2019). And for the second, the expansion of AFCON to 24 teams made qualification assured in the penultimate match. Qualification would not have been guaranteed with the win over Libya in the penultimate match if the expansion had not happened. Qualifying for the AFCON with a match to spare has also been subsequently done by his successors. Modified: Rohr also qualified us for AFCON 2021 with a game to spare. Recall the last gasp Onuachu header against Benin |
You probably meant Confederations Cup in '05: https://www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxrF0d9KiHWneiAvEYZcJqajoqr7bsKBdG charlesemeka85: |
Again, if it is still not clear to you, I wont be baited into continuing the conversation. Enjoy your bliss in always assuming nothing works in Nigeria. The Libyan national team represents the whole of Libya.....I will end it there... TheGoodJoe: |
** hands on head** How did you reach the bolded conclusion from what you just read?. TheGoodJoe: |
Finding out you are not participating in an event you have mentally prepared for, and traveled around the world in order to meet the IAAF qualifying standards a few days to the start is surely not in her best interest or that of the nation. I would probably buy the idea of pulling an athlete out of an event, if her participation would have deprived another athlete their chance of participation. But this was not the case here as we only had 2 other athletes meet the 100m grade. |
Felt a need to step into this, since @majoribanks is suggesting @lovewins was handpicking examples Neither of these athletes were asked to do what their coaches advised them not to. Professionals do not do that. Also, neither of them was drafted into a race they were not trained for. By the way, I do not know of an instance of Favour not honoring her country's call. Chidi couldn't participate in the last Olympics too. He grew up in the States yet always honors his country's call with humility and respect. Ogazi, the next big thing, consistently honors his country's call. Why is she different? The same country discovered her and sent her those youth competitions, but now they don't have a say because she is with Adidas?Tebogo has run a lot of 400m meters this year for endurance building. No Nigerian has run Tebogo's 44.29 in 36 years! That is how good he is. Hence, the scenarios are different. I bet you if his coach says no, he would not have attempted it. I have never heard of any association vetoing an athlete's choice of events, after the said athlete has fulfilled the qualification requirements . The power to do this rests with the athlete and coach alone. The only reason Usain Bolt ran that iconic 100m race in Beijing was because his coach permitted him. (See https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2008/aug/06/olympics2008.athletics). He persuaded his coach to try the 100m a year before. Yet Bolt was not sure he was going to run the 100m as a world record holder, even with a few weeks left to the games . If his coach had said NO, not even the federation can overturn that! At that same World Relay, we saw Tebogo practically dragging his country to the 4x400 mixed relay African record. Are you saying Tebogo does not have a good coach? The events are not cumulative. She is not the first athlete to do the double. Some athletes actually use one to condition and prepare themselves for the other. She earned the right to double up by winning both events at the trials. My point remains, if you can't run less than 400m in a 4x400 relay, you shouldn't be running 900m in 4 days. It's that simple. And show respect to those who lift you up when you were a nobody!I am not sure I get your point here. Neita participated in both 100m and 200m. The rest you listed did not double up because of their performance at the US trials and not because they could not. If they had qualified, they most likely would have run in both categories to expand their chances of an olympic medal. You listed four athletes, yet only one participated in both events at the Olympics. Interesting. Let me help you add to the list: Long, Richardson, Hill, Neita, etc.I believe administrative incompetence is the reason why she was not entered for the 100m and whoever is responsible should be fired from their job. This has happened time and time again. I remember Okagbare and Oduduru being registered for events they were not interested in at the world champs in 2019. It is already becoming a pattern and an embarassment to the nation. An athlete shouldn't have to worry about whether the administrative tasks of registering for the right events are going to be properly handled. The competitiveness of the olympics requires full focus and issues like this ar enot helpful for peak performance |
I think Cape Town is the African city that has come closest to hosting the Olympics. Their bid came 3rd for the 2004 edition. Funny thing is that they are probably in a worse position 20 years later, though to be fair, many western cities are also in the same boat. I will tip the middle eastern cities (Rabat, Cairo, Casablanca, Kuwait, Doha etc) to be the top contenders of the future, not due to the financial viability of the games but the vision of their leaders to position their countries as hubs for tourism as they plan a future of diversification from fossil fuels as the driver of their economies. chrisooblog: |
For those who promote the propaganda that the NFF does not try to engage players who were raised in other countries, hear what Mikel has to say from 23:07 - 27:01: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnLWIKqMI5c |

@jihday, @kingphilip There you have it. So Taiye Taiwo did "match sabotage" in his last few appearances under the following coaches to get them sacked according to Keshi's assistant and @TheGoodJoe - Austin Equavoen - Berti Vogts - Amodu Shuaibu - Lars Lagerbeck - Samson Siasia TheGoodJoe: |
People only make these allegations when they fall out of favour with the Manager. None of the regulars during Keshi's era ever came out to make such a claim, unless you are insinuating that such claims do not exist because they were also complicit in greasing the handlers' palms. In this case, the implication will be that players like Enyeama, Sone Aluko, Mikel, V. Moses, Musa etc only got on the team because they were complicit in paying the coach elyte89: |
Which World cup? TheGoodJoe: |
It depends on whether you believe the claim made by Stephen Keshi's Assistant. @TheGoodJoe can you help confirm to these folks that Taye Taiwo wielded that much influence with the NFF? kingphilip: jihday: |
No o. It is not a lie. Did you not know that Taiye Taiwo was responsible for the sacking of the following coaches? - Austin Equavoen - Berti Vogts - Amodu Shuaibu - Lars Lagerbeck - Samson Siasia jihday: |
I do not believe either of them Kog45: |
What do you mean? Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard almost always played together whenever they were fit. They all played together in Euro 2004, while Lampard and Gerrard frequently started together in World cups 2006 and 2010 (after Scholes' international retirement) komekn: |
I think Joe Aribo? Player had number 10 on his jersey Modified: It's Moffi charlesemeka85: |
ecoco2014:Exactly, he wasn't "home based" , just like Ighalo for instance wouldn't be categorized as home based if he starts training with a local club after years of playing abroad |
ecoco2014:1. Ethiopia beating Nigeria in 1993 was an upset at that time as they were no longer a powerhouse in African football. Winning the nations cup before Nigeria isn't evidence of strength as that is still an immutable fact but will be ridiculous to suggest Ethiopia beating Nigeria now won't be an upset 2. We escaped the Ugandan challenge by the skin of our teeth. Rufai's penalty save was what kept Nigeria from being eliminated. The match ended 0-0 3. Uche Okafor was not home-based in 1994 (a quick online search to review his career will clarify this). The only home-based players were Fuludu, Semitoje and Ugbade. - Fuludu saw no action - Semitoje started the semi-finals and was catastrophic, had to be replaced by Okafor in his fullback role - Ugbade came in as a substitute in 3 games: - for Oliseh, against Zaire after the match was well and truly won - for Keshi late on in the game against The Ivory Coast - for Okocha against Zambia, after which our midfield completely collapsed |
House, We initially had a dropbox scheduled for my mother-in-law June this year. However, we received an email on Thursday letting us know that the appointment has been scheduled for this month (just 1 week notice). The issue is that her passport expires in May and she has applied for a renewal. We do not think she can get the new passport in a week. Can anyone advise if she can still have her visa stamped on the old passport while the new one is pending? |
typicalgamer:The person whose record Usain Bolt broke. @Danielnino00 is correct. Sprinting has always been the major sport in Jamaica, followed by Cricket (West Indies). The finest sprinters in the world have always been Jamaicans. They have consistently medaled in Olympics sprinting and the World championships and their ladies have provided the stiffest competition to the Americans for decades. The likes of Merlene Ottey (was minister of sport at some point), Juliet Cuthberth and Veronica Campbell-Brown, won world titles and stood on the podium in the Olympics prior to Usain Bolt's emergence. Usain Bolt simply took it to a whole new level for the sport not just Jamaica |
This is how you are supposed to reason: Etebo was (one of) the best at 2018 world cup Since Etebo >>>>>> Ndidi, Mikel, Iwobi, Moses at the 2018 world cup and Etebo could not cut it in the championship and EPL Therefore Ndidi, Mikel, Iwobi, Moses could never have succeeded in the EPL, if they ever get to be signed up Utonwanne: |
A marker of a good and objective analyst is how well they can assess a player's qualities, irrespective of the country they ply their trade. Our pretentious komekn would only base his assessment on whether or not a player has been involved in English football. You cannot blame him since that is the extent of his knowledge. Once upon a time in 2020, a few on this thread were clamoring for the invitation of Frank Onyeka when he was still with FC Midtjylland . Here are a few comments that represented the position of our objective friend : komekn: komekn: komekn:To paraphrase: "He is not involved with English football, therefore he must be piss poor' Fast forward two seasons later - after a move to his beloved premiership, Onyeka all of a sudden has few competitors in the Super Eagles. The same folks who saw him as good enough for the call up then are now pointing out that there are other midfielders who can offer more than Onyeka now. Quite a few already stated that Onyedika is an even better player than him as far back as 12 months ago. They did not need 2 failed bids from AC Milan to know that. |
komekn:I got an answer for the question in bold: komekn: |
Gbam! Canada is ranked a gaping 30 places below the USA and 11 places below Nigeria, therefore Alphonso Davies cannot be considered to be at the same level as Antonee Robinson and Zaidu Sanusi. Neither can Bayern Munich match the quality of Fulham and FC Porto. Abeg where you go school? komekn: |
TheSuperNerd:It is immaterial if I do. However, I see the posting of his personal information without his consent as crossing a big line. Please take it down |
TheSuperNerd:I want to believe there are unwritten rules of engagement on this thread. You just exposed his full name. Please delete the screenshot (at least blot out his name) |
charlesemeka85:My oga, I am not discussing politics o. Nothing consign me with the candidates that shake hands and make business deals behind closed doors or who people choose to support. Just highlighting what I consider a flaw in the reasoning, since he previously insinuated another moniker was "blind" for not sharing his point of view |
humility33:If he is an ethnic bigot because he called someone else an ethnic champion, then by that same logic, making the same accusation about him makes you one? "The person who bends down to look at another person's anus will do well to realise that theirs is also exposed" Who even use (fake) bishops to legitimise his running mate decision?fake bishops and ethinicity...what is the connection? |
Subzero47:Look at you....so you didn't know CR7 was culpable in Arsenal's 3 goals yesterday or are you saying Lukaku shouldn't be blamed for the 4 goals conceded by Chelsea last week? what do you know? ![]() |
jihday:AJIBALLER ADEBALLER........you will rise again!! He should focus on getting a club and settling in before accepting any national team invitations for a while. NFF should please get involved with seeking restitution from or disciplinary actions against the club by FIFA if his claims regarding the nations cup can be proven. From where I stand, I am inclined to believe they dissuaded him from joining the team, given how late he was released |
