Former Belgium boss Georges Leekens named Algeria coach By Reuters Former Belgium boss Georges Leekens was named Algeria coach on Thursday, two days after losing his job at Belgian club Lokeren. The Algerian Football Federation said that Leekens, 67, had been chosen to replace Serbian Milovan Rajevac, who was sacked following Algeria's home draw with Cameroon in the opening round of African World Cup group qualifiers earlier this month. Leekens, who twice coached Belgium and was in charge of Tunisia at the 2015 African Nations Cup finals, returns to the post he held for six months in 2003 before quitting for "family reasons". His first assignment with Algeria will be a World Cup qualifier away to Nigeria in Uyo on Nov. 12. Algeria will then take part in the 2017 African Nations Cup finals in Gabon in January, where they have been drawn in Group B with Zimbabwe, Tunisia and Senegal. Leekens left Lokeren after they lost 2-1 to Oostende in the Belgian league on Tuesday, which left them struggling near the foot of the table, having lost eight of their opening 12 games of the season. The much-travelled coach had been at Lokeren for a year. http://www.eurosport.com/football/former-belgium-boss-leekens-named-algeria-coach_sto5928768/story.shtml |

Weldone naptu2. This is something I had thought of doing for over two years now, particularly with the sprints. I have great memories of the 90s. The question was never if we would have people in the finals, it was always "will they turn up"?. Sadly, many of them never reached their potential. I remember that going into the Barcelona olympics, only three men had gone under 10 seconds. Michael Marsh, who had run 9.93s didnt make the 100m team for the US. The other two who had run under 10s were Nigerians: Davidson Ezinwa - 9.96s Olapade Adeniken - 9.97s (he ran this time twice in the build up to the olympics) Sadly, they didn't reproduce their form in the final and neither of them got a medal. Our T&F has gone so bad that in an era where people beat 10 secs with ease, we dont have any man who has dipped under that barrier in 10 years. Whereas we had sprinters who did that yearly in an era when breaking 10s was seen as something really special |
My understanding is that Kings are supposed to confer titles, not the other way round. I don't think any title surpasses "Your Majesty" |
Soul winning alone will not take you to heaven; you win a soul by living the God life and your personal interest in bringing somebody to the knowledge of Christ. You have to be in a good frame of mind first, not under fear or compulsion that if you do not win souls you will go to hell. There should be no ulterior motives like getting the soul’s money eventually, you want a position or seeking to be rewarded with treats or awards. There are people who reach out to others daily not for any earthly reward or to direct the souls to their own churches, for benefits or for any selfish reason. These people recommend and make available other authors, ministers and local assemblies for the interest of the soul aloneThis is telling and Loud |
safarigirl:No be play o : http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36637591 |
TheGoodJoe:Exactly. Not selected for the national team doesn't equal rejection. If that is the case, then every player that has ever been dropped could be said to be "rejected". A player shouldn't automatically be considered for the National team simply because they have dual nationality. It would have been unfair for Alaba to have been selected for the U-17 if the same same policy of not using foreign based professionals is applied to other Nigerians. Doing otherwise would suggest that all a player needs to be selected for the national team is to be eligible to play for some other western country. Playing that card will do the National team no good! |
Very funny thread. Too much ado about nothing....what does it matter where Sandra is from. Isnt it evident that both ethnic groups in question have close links as many other ethnicities do? What does claiming the origin of the name have to do with the wedding? I am also surprised that in this information age, this argument is going this far. A simple search for the name 'Ogunsuyi' on google or other social networks will go a long way in helping to know that both ethnic groups answer that name. Why should there be insults and name calling over this? |
obailala:THIS has been the bane of our development and every government in power has always politicised every failings. I am seeing this in this Government too as the finger is always pointed at "previous administrations" or "political opponents" Same thing happened with the chibok girls. |
naijaboy756:I usually just laugh at these types of topics as I find it hard to believe that anyone would think that cowardice and bravery are exclusive qualities of specific people groups.....however for those who were alive 1993-1998, I hope they still remember that one of the reasons MKO wasn't released on time was because he refused to renounce his mandate: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/128436.stm. The UN secretary general (Kofi Annan) and Commonwealth Secretary General (Emeka Anyaoku) held meetings to persuade him to renounce his mandate. Kofi Annan gave a press conference to say he had actually agreed to move ahead until MKO denied it in a letter he wrote to Gani. These series of meetings continued till his death including the final meeting with a US delegation including Susan Rice where he finally lost his life.. MKO also left the country at different times before his arrest, including attending Mandela's inauguration. He was placed under house arrest on June 1994, escaped in the night of June 11 to declare himself president (http://www.ecoi.net/local_link/188789/306829_de.html). He eventually surrendered himself when he got back home....if that is still cowardice to you, you must be having a laugh. His final interview with the BBC while he was being arrested can be found here: http://abusidiqu.com/for-the-records-mko-abiolas-last-interview/ Account of his physician about Abiola's premonition about his death: https://www.naij.com/36844.html For those who want to continue with the bait that this thread is, knock yourselves out ![]() |
alaskido:I will be interested to know how the technology will be transferred |
Hehe, this is really embarrassing. I hope he didn't tell anyone in attendance that he was the Governor of a State in Nigeria. I am actually tempted to ask if this was his first trip outside Africa because these pictures show signs of someone who hasn't been outside the shores of the country before and needs to take pictures to impress those they left back home ![]() |
Is it a coincidence that the AFCON hosts of the three most recent editions we have missed out on have been the same? Equatorial Guinea and Gabon (2012), Equatorial Guinea (2015), Gabon (2017). Jinx? |
forgiveness:The fact that the author couldn't even get his starting line up right brings his claim in doubt. Also, as far as I remember, Amuzie wasn't even on the pitch in the second half of the match hence I don't see how he cost us in Alexandria. |
shockwave91:I reckon Olympic gold in 96 doesn't qualify as "sh*t"? |
Jigga_man101: No jiggaman did not start shit. You guys started by saying ish about Ghana. Y'all said Ghana disgraced africa and I brought boko haram because it is more of a disgrace than what Ghana did. ]We still had the most entertaining game. We did well, out of four teams two must come and unfortunately Ghana was one of them. In our World Cup history this is the only time we failed to make it out of the group stages. This was the same record Nigeria had after her third world cup: 6 losses! We topped our group twice and like you, we were in the group of death in 2002 and got 1 point. |
abatically: You are the only sensible person around here. Enyeama chose a side while the wall blocked the other side. Enyeama probably thought messi would change the position of the free kick and choose to play it to the goalkeeper's side instead of over the wall as the distance was far (Ronaldo does that a lot). Unfortunately messi chose to play it over the wall... it was a perfectly taken free kick and was always going away from the goalkeeper. No matter how hard Enyeama tries, he wouldn't get to that ball. The Only way he would have saved the ball was for him to make the movement before messi took the kick. But then if he had done that and it happened that messi chose the other direction, then we would blame him for not defending his own side. The bolded was exactly what happened when south Korea scored their second goal against Nigeria in the last world cup and the commentators were like "if the goalkeeper had remained in his spot, he would have caught the ball" @ op, I am not a tactician but in most freecicks I see, the goal keeper never stands behind the wall...that is why the wall is there! |
You would recall how Gen. Abacha arrested him with others, sentenced him to death for alleged involvement in a phantom coupI don't think He was ever sentenced to death. As far as I remember, he was handed a life sentence which was commuted to 15 years. Interestingly, if he would have completed his sentence three years ago (if he survived jail!) |
So she came second in Shangai, behind Shelly-Ann and ahead of Jeter ![]() |
ola_pluto: Here you go...One of my favourite sporting moments in recent times . Was at crystal Palace for the race. She also broke 11 seconds for the first time earlier that day |
CFCfan: Yep, her coach (Smith) has to work on that. Imagine if she had a much faster start, she may be running close to 10.7 secs or faster! She could be the female Usain Bolt.I believe you. With her form in the last olympics(Heats and Semi Finals), she had what it took to run 10.85 in that final, but then finals take more than just ability. |
Athletes normally know when they are in top shape. I knew we were in for something special this season (injury permitting) when she set up a website counting down to moscow:http://blessingokagbare.wix.com/blessingokagbare . You generally don't do that unless you know something is kicking within you. |
Texas.Cowgirl:I think she still represents Nigeria and in the last meet in Doha, she had the Nigerian flag against her name |
@OP. am not sure this record will be ratified as a new african record as it was wind assisted at 2.2m/s. Good performance though |
Just read the original post and I must say there is nothing suggesting he was joking from the way the OP wrote it. @OP did you believe it was a joke yourself when you posted it? |
redsun: Na wa o. One don't get to hear this ancient oyinbo traditions unless he is in the midst of Africans.Yes Sir, all of us who believe in Jesus in the 21st century are gullible and stupid |
'Don't blame Drogba and Toure' Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traore, who played few minutes during the Elephants’ quarterfinal clash with Nigeria on Sunday, told supersport.com his side didn’t lose because they underestimated the Super Eagles but rather because the Nigerians were superior. The all-West African cracker ended 2-1 in favour of the Super Eagles, who are now through to the semifinals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. “We made serious preparation because we knew playing Nigeria would be tough but once on the pitch Mikel Obi and his mates quickly seized the midfield, cutting off the link to our front men. This happened for much of the first half, which hindered us from getting a foothold as soon as possible in the meeting,” Traore said. The Anzhi Makhachkala top scorer refused to blame his captain, Didier Drogba, and reigning African Footballer of the Year ,Yaya Toure, both of whom local fans say failed to live up to expectation and caused their unexpected exit from the tournament. “Drogba and Toure are great players. They did their best but the problem was that Nigeria were too much. They overwhelmed us, not just the two players alone. I can understand their (fans) anger but they have to blame the whole team and not just Drogba and Toure.” Traore also gave kudos to Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi for his “creative and pragmatic” solution for the quarterfinals. “Imagine, a number of sports pundits in Ivory Coast were saying this coach would not be able to come up with any solution to surmount the Ivorian hurdle but he did eventually. He was able to make our team sterile, visionless and stupid. He was creative and pragmatic. At a time, on the bench, we were wondering if this was the team that drew 1-1 against Burkina Faso in the group phase.” Where does the future lie for the country’s best footballer generation after failing once again to crown their long walk with a continental title? Traore says the future remains bright. “When I hear people say it is all over for this team I feel sad. Players come and go but the team will be here. Even if Drogba doesn’t win an Afcon title, it doesn’t me Ivory Coast will never be able to win the trophy one day.” Source: http://www.supersport.com/football/africa-cup-of-nations/news/130204/Dont_blame_Drogba_and_Toure |
