House Of Reps May
Arrest CBN Governor,
Emefiele. The House of Representatives ad hoc Committee investigating the alleged stolen 17 billion dollars oil and gas sales on Thursday, February 23 ordered Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, to appear before it within one week. The money was allegedly stolen through undeclared crude oil and liquefied natural gas export. The committee threatened to issue a warrant of arrest on the governor if he failed to appear within the period. The Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas said the international oil companies allegedly involved in the deal had provided the committee documents required to commence the investigation. Namdas expressed concern that full investigation could not begin because of the failure of CBN to give the required details. He alleged that CBN provided conflicting responses to its inquiry on the matter and as such the governor must appear in person to clarify issues and provide necessary details needed to facilitate the probe. “We have sent two different letters to the CBN and the bank has provided two conflicting responses to our inquiry. “In response to the first letter, the apex bank pleaded for time due to the volume of documents required but in response to the second letter, CBN indicated that it has no record of undeclared crude,” Namdas said. The chairman warned that the committee would invoke the law against any individual or government agency delaying the investigation. “We expected him to be here and he is not, we are disappointed. “We will not allow any agency of government to delay the committee’s work. “If in the next one week, the CBN Governor did not appear before this committee, we will not hesitate to exercise our powers in line with section 88 and 89 of the 1999 constitution.” According to Namdas, the required details from the CBN are vital as the investigation cannot commence without them. “Most of the international oil companies have furnished us with the information needed but CBN is very vital and key to this investigation and we cannot jump the gun,’’ he said. The assembly set up the committee in September 2016 to investigate 17 billion dollars allegedly stolen from undeclared crude oil and liquefied natural gas export between 2011 and 2014. |

Cleric tells Sanusi: Your
proposal on polygamy
will violate the Quran
Following plans of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi to propose a law that will restrict poor men in the emirate from marrying many wives Aminu Daurawa, Kano state commandant of Hisbah, a religious police outfit says the position of God on marriage has been stated in the Quran and any means of regulation would be seen as an act of “infringement.” The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi has said he will propose a law that will restrict poor men in the emirate from marrying many wives The Cable reports that Daurawa said the criteria for marrying another wife as contained in the Quran should be strictly followed. Sanusi was reported to have said that: “Those of us in the North have all seen the economic consequences of men who are not capable of maintaining one wife, marrying four. They end up producing 20 children, not educating them, leaving them on the streets, and they end up as thugs and terrorists." “It is perhaps a tribute to Mallam Isa that today, as I speak, in the palace in Kano a sub-committee of scholars, which I set up and has been working for about a year, is finalizing the final sections of a family law we intend to introduce in Kano which will address some of the issues that Mallam Isa was concerned about." Daurawa however advised the monarch to focus on enlightening the people on the intricacies of polygamy. According to The Cable, Daurawa said in an interview with the BBC Hausa service on Friday, that the subject matter should be put in the curriculum of secondary school for young ones to know what is best for them. “Allah position on marriage is sacrosanct as stated in the Holy Quran and any infringement is nullity,” Daurawa said. “What needs to be done is not enactment of a law that would bar the poor from marrying more than one wife but rather enlightenment on the intricacies of polygamy. “There about 13 criteria to be followed before one qualifies to marry a second wife and this include been just and caring to the wife as been enshrined in the Holy Quran should be strictly followed.” However, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi over his plan to propose a bill that will ban poor men from marrying many wives The group said the proposal is a good development and conforms to the pronouncement of the Holy Qu’ran... |

To Steve Kutner and Franco Granello for bringing me the opportunity to become a Champion. "Mostly I have to thank Leicester City Football Club. The adventure was amazing and will live with me forever. "Thank you to all the journalists and the media who came with us and enjoyed reporting on the greatest story in football. PLAY "My heartfelt thanks to everybody at the Club, all the players, the staff, everybody who was there and was part of what we achieved. "But mostly to the supporters. You took me into your hearts from day one and loved me. I love you too. No one can ever take away what we together have achieved, and I hope you think about it and smile every day the way I always will.
