PhonesRe: Airtel's Unlimited Access To Whatsapp For N100/Month by thegenie(m):
Ok. First, Airtel is offering UNLIMITED Internet traffic for the use of WhatsApp on your NUMBER for N100 per month. Sounds good. BUT, a tonne of other services that need to access the internet are running on your ANDROID phone. When you turn on data connection on your phone, all those services begin to access the Internet. For these, Airtel charges you 5K/Kb.

Christianity EtcRe: Ex-PMAN President Tee Mac Apologises To Bishop Oyedepo by thegenie(m): 10:37pm On Dec 22, 2012
Is God interested in this matter? Isn't He? Why shouldn't / wouldn't He be interested. Is Bishop David Oyedepo serving Him? Didn't God call Bishop David Oyedepo into Ministry? If He did, will He stand by and watch His servant maligned? If Bishop David Oyedepo is a fraud, won't God expose him? If he isn't, won't God silence someone and / or validate him?

Some commentators may be atheists / agnostics; they still align to some form of ethical considerations, and I suppose, should have some sense of responsibility when they post their comments. Other commentators may be adherents of competing believe systems, and maligning Oyedepo is 'sweet'; it is same as maligning Christianity. It may even be encouraged in their religions. What worries me is the attitude of the Christians commenting here? What value / ethical system do they align to? Biblical? ...

I have read Bishop Oyedepo's books (first encounter), listened to him via various media, and even worshiped at Canaanland. I have put the principles and insights he has shared into practice and seen visible results. I no longer worship at Winners' Chapel, I no longer pay tithes there (I still pay tithes elsewhere), but the things I've heard him speak still work for me today. You cannot lie with visible facts. In my experience, he cannot be a fraud!

Paying tithes hasn't made me poorer. My first tithe was a three digit sum, now it is five digit, and already hovering in the neighbourhood of six digits. I got here by doing the things I have heard him say (which are expositions of the things already in the Bible). I have become richer after I began paying tithes about ten years ago. If a member of a Church is tired of paying tithes, no one forces him to continue. And if someone feels that paying tithes is wrong, then don't pay! There's no compulsion or coercion. I have met many people, and made many friends who pay tithes in various Churches. These are people with sound tertiary education and expanded world views. I haven't heard any of them complain.

Ok God, over to you now, do something. It is a prayer!

omobone: Whatsapp is a very good messaging application, but its free for one year and after that, you will get to say $1.99 per year to use it. Has anyone renewed his subscription or do you know how to easily renew it in Nigeria? Please, share your comments.
They've revised the price downwards, now $0.99 (about N160). I have renewed via Google checkout service. If you need help to renew, send me a private message.
PhonesRe: How To Renew Your Whatsapp Subscription In Nigeria? by thegenie(m): 10:17pm On Dec 09, 2012
Paypal doesn't work in Nigeria, so we're left with Google Checkout. That means you'll have to enter your Debit (ATM) card details on Google servers (Google Wallet service), and trust Google to keep it safe (imagine your card details leaked, and someone shopping straight from your bank account!).

Another option is to let someone pay for you. On Android, Settings>>Account>>Payment info>>Send payment URL. Send the link via email (or other means) to someone to pay for you. The URL links to the payment page, and carries your MSISDN (Mobile number).

The current annual fee is $0.99 (about N160). I have paid for 12 people so far. If you want me to pay for you, send me a private message with your number and email address and I will revert with details.
Seems you can renew with Google Checkout via Google Wallet. A service that appears to allow you store your credit and debit cards info on highly secure Google servers. If this is too much of a hassle and you still want to enjoy FREE you can pop your alternative sim card into your phone create a new account with it and then put your regular sim back and sign in with the alternative's sim's ID. I know this cos I've tried it before.
Not a very good idea. Your chat contacts will be seeing the new SIM MSISDN instead. If that's what you desire, fine.

PoliticsRe: Why Has The Tide Turned Against The ACN? by thegenie(m): 6:29pm On Oct 25, 2012
I'm amazed when I see people who are supposed to be educated and above tribalism / racism going so low. I am Niger-deltan. My best friend is Ibo, my sweetheart is Yoruba. I have a VERY good close friend from Kano. According to Tunde Obe (of Charlie Boy's ZOOM TIME fame), there are only two tribes: 1) Good people, and 2) Bad people.

Geography don't define the essence of any man. The same Nigerians feeling racially superior feel the most offence when an Indian or Chinese exhibits racial superiority tendencies towards him / her. That's hypocrisy. The fact that we are mostly anonymous here isn't license to discard our sensibilities. Genetic science has proven that human-kind is 99.99% (or thereabouts) similar. The good, the bad and the ugly cut across all geographies!!
PoliticsRe: Why Has The Tide Turned Against The ACN? by thegenie(m):
I think ACN merely benefited from the masses' disenchantment with PDP - a mere alternative, not necessarily because people liked ACN by itself. As far as I am concerned, and have observed, political leaders make their parties good (or bad): the Parties by themselves are no different from each other. Fashola brought on the ACN appeal, as did Duke for PDP.

Because of our general collective amnesia, we judge Parties by the present occupants of political officers from the Parties, regardless of the performance of historical political office occupants of the same Parties. So, for example, everyone forgets what what Duke did when judging PDP in Cross River State. Or what Tinubu did when judging ACN in Lagos State, etc, etc.

When I vote, I personally don't care about what Party flag my candidate flies; I care more about WHO the candidate is: his/her antecedents, pedigree, etc. This may explain why Mimiko (LP) won in Ondo, and why Oke (PDP) came second ahead of Akeredolu (ACN) in the same election, in South-west!!

Try Titanium Backup. If you can, get the paid version. Nothing like it. You can remove manufacture bloatware and free up your ROM, you can move Apps to SD, etc

Anyone using Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100)? Does your phone heat-up like it's going to burst to flames sometimes?
I had the problem, and tried every trick I knew. Samsung even replaced the main board, but the problem didn't cease. Any thing could trigger to heating, even mere listening to the FM radio. I was at the point of selling the phone (I bought it for N80K) for a mere N20K!! Then I solved the problem.

Step 1: Root the phone and install ClockWorkMod Recovery (Rooting methods abound on the internet, use google)
Step 2: Backup your phone using Titanium Backup software (search and download from Google Play)
Step 3: Flash with Cyanogenmod ROM (http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=galaxys2)

You'll lose all Samsung pre-installed apps. I don't need all of them, but for those I needed, I was able to extract the apks from the Titanium backup archive and reinstall. I particularly liked Polaris Office (preinstalled), and Wordbook (installed from Samsung Appstore)

You'll lose FM radio (FM chip drivers not supported in ROM). Search for Spirit FM app in Google Play. Not free. (App include FM chip drivers and tuner application).

Need help? SMS me (zero eight zero five, three two four, seven five nine nine) with details.

Mine hasn't overheated even once, after I completed the procedure.

Cheers

Did someone mention avast!Mobile Security? Apart from being one of the most fully featured anti-virus programs for Android, it comes with a plethora of features. My best feature is the anti-Theft feature. Did I mention that it is completely free? Free from any form of Ad??

To use the full capability of the anti-Theft feature tho', you need root.
PhonesRe: Phone Gurus, Please Kindly Advice! by thegenie(m): 2:21pm On Aug 23, 2012
For N35K, I can recommend either Samsung Galaxy Y Pro DUOS (B5512), or Samsung Galaxy Y DUOS (S6102). Both are Dual-SIM Android Phones that can meet all your requirements. The Pro is QWERTY (with touch, smaller screen tho), and the other is all touch (larger screen area).

Samsung has the added benefit of having Service centers around, plus the fact that parts (replacement batteries, etc) and accessories can be gotten easily. I recommend you buy from an iCell authorized reseller so you can enjoy warranty. You'll pay at most N30K for any of these devices, and if you find this advice useful, pass the change to me grin grin
TravelRe: What Are The Most RACIST Countries? by thegenie(m): 2:02pm On Aug 23, 2012
Jews and Germans are 'white' caucasoids, and yet Germans displayed the most extreme form of racism against Jews in the Holocaust, so the argument regarding skin colour as the only basis for racism is invalid.

Racism, tribalism, etc are all forms of discrimination based on differences in culture, skin colour, language, place of origin, etc, etc. Discrimination is a fact of life. Nobody likes it, and those that practice it are most offended when they're at the receiving end. Racism (and its subtitles) is very often practiced by the so-called learned people, and is a form of elitism. It is rooted in 'I, we, my tribe, etc better pass you, your tribe, etc ...'
PhonesRe: Win Brand New Aeroplane! MTN Ultimate Wonder! by thegenie(m): 9:44am On Aug 17, 2012
Cessna 182T Skylane = USD$398,100 as at 2012. That's about N63,696,000. I remember Etisalat gave out $1,000,000 (N160,000,000). If it were an helicopter, one could at least lease to some of the helicopter service providers and make some monthly revenue. A skyplane?
