PoliticsGoodluck Jonathan Denies Commenting On The Economy by TheophilusA(op): 1:05am On Mar 08, 2016
Former president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed a report that he commented on the state of the Nigerian economy. Jonathan made this disclosure in a personally-signed post via his Facebook page. According to Jonathan, "My attention has just been drawn to a spurious online publication alleging that I recently made comments on the state of the nation’s economy. This falsehood must have sprung from the writer’s imagination, as I was neither at any forum requiring my interventions on the state of the economy, nor met with any group of newsmen, as claimed in the write-up. I will simply urge Nigerians to disregard such fabrication, and rather concentrate on working for the good of our nation."

PoliticsChief Judge Queried Over Alleged N10million Donation by TheophilusA(op): 8:20am On Mar 07, 2016
The Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice I. A. Umezulike has been queried by the National Judicial Council(NJC) over an allegation that he accepted N10 million donation from a litigant before his court. This allegation was contained in a petition that was forwarded to the NJC by an Enugu-based legal practitioner, Mr. Peter N. Eze.

Eze said he had earlier forwarded two petitions dated October 27, 2014, with reference No. MISC/45/2015, and another one on December 9, 2014, to the NJC. According to the petition with Ref No. MSC/23/2016, dated February 19, 2016, Eze stated that,“My Lord I believe that this order for my arrest was made in bad faith and was a gross abuse of judicial power and my fundamental rights. It was meant to intimidate me and cower me for complaining about the earlier misconduct of Justice Umezulike.

“My Lord, I have suffered grave persecution in the hands of Hon. Justice I. A. Umezulike. I brought the matter to the attention of the NJC in 2014 and sadly I was told that the NJC was satisfied with the explanation Hon. Justice Umezulike had given to my complaints. Unfortunately I was never shown a copy of the reply Justice Umezulike sent to the allegations I made.

“In the meantime, I have been harassed by the police, sent on exile and my practice has virtually ground to a halt. All because I pointed out to Justice Umezulike that it was wrong for a judge to invite a litigant who is a plaintiff in his court, to a launching of a book written by him, and accept a donation of N10,000,000 from the litigant. It is my fervent prayer that this time, my complaints are seen to be grave enough to warrant a panel of enquiry being set up to investigate Hon. Justice Umezulike."

Meanwhile, the NJC, through a query that was signed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, gave Justice Umezulike 14 days to respond to the allegations. The query with Ref No. NJC/S.14/HC.EN/1/IV/327, read: “I forward herewith a petition Ref No. Msc/23/2016 dated February 19, 2016, against you by one Mr. Peter N. Eze on the above subject matter. The petition speaks for itself. I shall be glad to have your comments within two weeks from the date of your receipt of this letter, please.”

EducationAyodele Dada: "How I Graduated With All-Round A's & 5.0 CGPA" by TheophilusA(op): 2:28am On Feb 29, 2016
Ayodele Dada has made history by graduating from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with an amazing 5.0 CGPA. In this interview with UNILAG Sun’s Muftaudeen Raji, he reveals the secrets behind his remarkable life. Excerpts:

Would you briefly tell us about yourself?

my name is Ayodele Daniel Dada. I graduated from department of Psychology, Faculty of Social science, University of Lagos. I’m from Ekiti State. We are just two siblings, I have a younger brother. I’am a kind of person who is open to various experiences. I try to experiment a lot and I have tried so many things. I have been into music production in the past.

Your educational background?

I had primary education and secondary education here in Lagos. My secondary school is Hopebay College, Ajegunle-Apapa, off Lagos-Badagry expressway. We lived close to that area. So after secondary school, it took me a while to decide on what I wanted to do because I had a brief stint learning how to do some bit of IT, bit of network business but it wasn’t really serious, it was just on the surface level and I did some French. I’m interested in languages especially European languages so I learnt French though I’m not efficient at it now. I’m also trying to translate that into a bit of music production. Eventually, I read a book that just made me see how psychology can be applied in the real life so it just captured my imagination and I decided that I was going to devote my time to Psychology. Yes, it was difficult at first. For example, when I decided I was going to do Psychology, I devoted three months to preparing to take JAMB/UTME and I really studied hard for it and I wrote the exam, confident that I really did well only to hear some couple of weeks later that my result was seized. I was devastated. That was in the year 2011. They said I cheated or so. I felt sad but I took it as fate. I initially wanted to go through the complaining procedure but it didn’t really work out because it was taking too long. I really wanted to resume as quickly as I could and then that was when I took the Diploma option, the foundation programme. That was how I came into UNILAG.

How did you finance your programme?

It was challenging because of the expense. Meanwhile, at that time, I had been doing several jobs. I worked a bit with my uncle. I did a bit of sales job selling computer accessories for some time. I also did some tutoring, I was teaching some people trying to at least make ends meet for myself and I didn’t stop that even when I started my programme at UNILAG. Most of my expenses except one or two occasions, I was taking care of my daily expenses. So, I had to plan my time such that it will not affect my study.

Before I was able to get on board the foundation programme, I had to get money from several sources. There were quite a few of family friends who were very helpful. They really came in and stood in for me because I could not take the bill myself. They were so kind because they were ready to help me without any string attached and that was how I started the Diploma programme and then it was challenging because they kept on telling me my name was written in pencil. “You are not part of the system.” There was even a student in this faculty (FSS) who would just come and tell us :“All of you that did this, you are bribing your way into school: and those things just kept on adding to my motivation. But I felt like people have to understand that we did that because of some certain circumstances, it was not as if we had all the money to come and spend. So I started the programme, kept on going through it and I was really driven to succeed in it.

What was your standing like at the end of the programme?

My first result the first semester, I had 4.55. I had a D in Geography and I tried to ask for what happened because even people who I was tutoring were having Bs and As but they said my CA or part of my exam was not recorded then I said fine, I would work better in the semester. The next semester, I had 4.91, exactly for the second semester. So, the aggregate was like 4.72. That’s for the foundation programme. That was how I gained admission into UNILAG.

Could you tell us how many JAMB exams you took?

I have taken just two JAMB exams and the reason is that I actually got the admission but it wasn’t what I wanted and the thing about me is that if it is not something I really want to do, my motivation is always very poor and I have to commit to the task and once I commit I could actually go to any length to achieve it. The second one was the one that was seized as I said earlier.

What about the SSCE exams, how many WAEC did you write?

I wrote one and I made it at once. I wasn’t the best overall but at least I made everything that was required.

Now, how can you describe your study habit?

My study habits are not very predictable because I adapt my study habit to whatever that is needed at the time. Take for example, I have a policy of never studying at night but, sometimes I had to change that based on the situation.

How were you able to sustain your GP considering how difficult the hurdles could be?

I have been asked that question severally and the simple answer I will give is that I never looked at everything on a long term path. I was looking at it from one day to the next. What I mean is I was thinking short term instead of the long term because I know quite a few people who were thinking this is what I want to finish with but then you have that long goal and you are looking at that meanwhile, things are happening right in front of you in short term. I was just preoccupied with winning the short terms. That was where my focus was on. This assignment, do it well; this test, do it well; this current exam, do it well. Do today well because, tomorrow is another today and then it will keep coming. So, just keep doing each they well and when it adds up, then you get to wherever you want to be.

What was your relationship with your lecturers likewhile in school?

(Cuts in) Yes my relationship with my lecturers were very good. Now you may say it’s because I was one of their best students but, it doesn’t always work that way because I know that there were some people who were also very good.Infact, I have to say that my class was one of the best classes that my department has had in a long time.

What's your social life like?

Yes I go to cinemas. I attend people’s birthdays. Some of my colleagues can attest to that. I’m not completely the outdoor type but, of course on occasions I have been to quite a number of functions. I participate in events and activities even though I will not be the main person all the time but, im just there and I try to socialite a lot. I interact with so many people although im not the kind who is always attending every party. I tried to create a blend.

How were you able to manage the wave of the social media?

For most of the initial years in Psychology, I was only doing social media on my laptop because I felt it’s easier to control on a laptop because the laptop is not something you are checking all the time. When I got to final year, I decided to change that. So, I got a phone that would enable me monitor the social media and I downloaded all the apps. I told myself I was going to participate seriously in social media and I was quite visible. My class had a whatsapp group chat, I tried to participate in that as well. I tried to be involved. I don’t just lock myself away and say because I’m studying I won’t do that.

What can you say on your level of performance in extra-curricular activities?

I didn’t do much of extra-curricular activities because most of the times I spent my time either tutoring my colleagues or those in the lower level apart from my personal academic work and also collaborating to an extent with some of my lecturers. There was one event I attended with one of my lecturers, she has been very supportive and she has tried to mentor so many young people in the department. We actually went to Enugu State. She was the one who advocated and showed the idea to us. She actually led the contingent where we presented a research to a group of people who are also members of Nigerian Psychology Association and they applauded our effort because, it was a research where basically we were the only undergraduates to present that year. That was November – December 2014. So, it was the 50 years anniversary of Psychology in Nigeria. It was something wonderful, I would say that was more of extra-curricular activity for me. I was always in some way connected to curricular activity.

When it comes to fellowship or association on campus, did you at one time serve as the leader?

Well, I wasn’t really part of the fellowship but, the association I participated in and that was in my final year was Impart Your World Leadership Initiative (IYWLI) and there was an event that was organised to inspire leadership and I still have a good rapport with the CEO of the organisation and it was because the event which launched it was the one that really captivated our minds and it was highly inspirational and it’s something that reshape the academic landscape of this university in times to come so, that was how much I participated as far as association is concerned.

Could you also talk about your hobbies?

My hobbies include reading. I read quite a number of books, a wide variety of books and some of the books I read I have shown them to some my colleagues and they feel like this is really boring but, If I know that I’m going to learn one thing from it I’m always interested and I don’t finish all the books I pick up. When I pick up a book I read it I get through some parts, if I feel like this is as much as what I want from this book I don’t feel obligated to finish the book. I can put the book aside, pick another one and begin to read so, I read a wide variety and that’s one of my key hobbies. Then like I said I’m also into music production so I do it as a hobby now. I was even as serious as it was then but, now I do it as my hobby and I like board games, strategy games, chess, scrabble, monopoly although I’m not extremely good at them but the strategy games I really like are computer strategy games.

Apart from academics, were you also into business or other things?

I still did a bit of sales job while I was studying Psychology because I had to support myself. It was something I had to do. I had to sell to some of my lecturers, to my colleagues as well and then I was also going to Ikeja because my uncle was the one who really introduced me to it. We would go to Computer Village and even sell in wholesales then I also did a bit of private tutoring. That was one of the key areas I major in. As far as business is concerned, I participated briefly in entrepreneurship challenge although I wasn’t the leader but, I just participated to gain some experience. It was organized by Google, some departments in engineering pioneered it in UNILAG and I participated at a point so, it was connected to entrepreneurship where we have to promote particularly a small, start-up business. It was good and a learning experience for me but owning a business and running it, I don’t think I have that much time because the demands the academic climate put on me as well as other things I was doing I just make sure that time for such was highly limited.

What of your relationship status while in school?

No I wasn’t in any serious relationship because I read a study that just made me realized that most people who really achieved the strongest grades in their schools were single at the time and I was able to identify with it because for me, when I go into things I go into them fully and when I’m in a relationship I want to be able to at least devote time to it and time was one of my major challenges. I always have a lot of things to do and so many things are coming up. I don’t want to be in a relationship and it will now suffer because I didn’t have enough time for my partner or my girlfriend or something so, I just said I would put that on hold till I’m done with my programme.

What was your experience with girls generally like?

In fact, most of my friends are girls and they are the ones who would call to check up on me. I related well with girls. I seem to be able to connect with them a lot easier because I know that I am a patient person when it comes to listening even though the girl has a lot to say about her life, I would sit down with her and listen even if it took hours. Some of them had challenges and I would give advice and be of help. So, my relationship with girls was quite good, but relationship wise, no, I wasn’t into any relationship.

How did you get your motivation?

From most things I have done, my motivation has always been intrinsic. I’m not doing it for anything most people say they are doing this to get that but, I do things for their own sake. For example even though I was doing private tutor, there were times when some people would not pay me completely, yes they would pay part but they won’t complete payment. I was passionate about imparting knowledge to them.

It’s quite brilliant that you are already working. How can you describe your experience at your place of work?

My experience at work has been wonderful. I have interacted with some of the best minds at work. These are smart and driven people who will want to win in any way possible as long as it is legal and it is the right thing to do. These are highly principled people who are determined to achieve great things. It has been a great experience. I have to learn things and I have even surprised myself by learning things that I have not even learnt before.

Where do you see yourself in the next five to 10 years?

By the grace of God, five years horizon, I want to have at least furthered my education. I won’t say exactly now at least I want to be somewhere where my expertise, efficiency and certification in my field is a lot higher than it is now. I want to be professional and recognised in my field. Ten years I want to be really distinguished but, five years, I want to be on that path, whatever it’s I have to achieve the level of distinction in my field not just at this level. I really want to go far.

Culture"Ooni Of Ife Is Nigeria's Number 1 King" - Oluwo Of Iwo, Oba Adewale Akanbi by TheophilusA(op): 6:01pm On Feb 28, 2016
The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun State, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi has faulted the claim of the Esogban of Benin who said the Ooni of Ife is a son of the Oba of Benin, and that the stool of the Oba of Benin could not be compared with that of any Yoruba king. Akanbi made this known in a recent interview, saying "Ooni of Ife remains the number one ranking Yoruba oba.” According to Oba Adewale Akanbi, "The Ooni is the first monarch in the South-West; even in Nigeria, he is the number one monarch. The power behind the monarch is so powerful that it depends on the person on the throne, that is, if the person understands the culture, history and how to compose it.

"That throne is great; anyone who sits on that throne today must be respected as the father of the Yoruba. That throne is great; anyone who sits on that throne today must be respected as the father of the Yoruba. That is the respect they will give to their progenitor. How can the great-grandson of Oduduwa be the number one in ranking.? Okanbi was one of the Oduduwa’s sons and he gave birth to Oranmiyan who was the father of Eweka who was the father of the Benin monarch.

"How is it possible for a great-grandson of Oduduwa to now be greater than his father in order of seniority? That is not possible. The Ooni is the father of the Yoruba. Even Oranmiyan from Oyo became the sixth Ooni. Anyone occupying that sit holds the status of the progenitor. If anyone wants to fight for the throne, like Oba of Benin, all he needs to do is to state the ruling family he belongs to. If he wants to claim the stool, he should come back home as Oranmiyan’s son; if he doesn’t do that, he cannot get the stool."

Christianity Etc"I Served Rev. King Stark-Unclad,With No Pant Or Bra For 7 Years" - Former Maid by TheophilusA(op): 8:03am On Feb 27, 2016
Miss Susan Chizoba, a former maid to the General Overseer of Christ Praying Assembly (CPA),Rev. Emeka King, was one of those who testified against him before an Ikeja High Court in 2006. At the time, Rev. King was on trial for the murder of one of his members, Miss Ann Uzor and attempting to murder five others by pouring petrol on them and setting them ablaze. Testifying at the trial in October 2006, Miss Chizoba informed the court that she was taken to the church in 2000 by her parents believing it to be a Christian home but that her parents stopped coming to the church six months later while she lived with Rev. King for seven years.

In her words, Miss Chizoba, testifying at the court said: “When I came to live with the accused (Rev. King), he told me that I would be his permanent maid and that I would agree not to marry. He said anytime I wanted to serve him I must be stark naked which I did. No pant, no bra, I would be completely nude before him and I did this not once, not twice, but for several years. He also ordered me not to tell any member of my family where I was living. He gave me a ring which I always put on to indicate that I am his permanent maid and all this he made me to put into writing. I am a member of the Lord’s army and we bully people, putting fear into them and molesting them.

“The accused(Rev. King) is a very violent person, he would beat us mercilessly and as a result we always have wounds on our bodies. He called himself god, the owner of the universe and could do anything. We know this is not so but out of fear we could not challenge him. On the 22nd July 2006 the day of the fire incident, a sister named Kelechi came to call me from the Boys Quarter of the accused’s house where we were staying that the accused wanted to see me.

"When I got to him he did not even allow me to kneel down as we usually did when talking to him before he started beating me with stick, rod and anything he could find. I started crying, shouting and begging him not to kill me. It was then I noticed others who were there; Cosy, Chiejile, Jessica, Ann, Vivian and Kelechi. He accused me that I lied to him that Chiejile did not sleep with me whereas Chiejile had confessed to him that he slept with me. But Chiejile never did he only said that so that the accused will not kill him.

"He said he would kill all of us. He then asked Kelechi to go and bring fuel and matches but when she brought it he told her that the petrol was not enough and that she should go and bring more which was brought in a very large plastic container. He then marched us out of the room saying he did not want to burn his rug and chair. While we were outside his room but within the church compound Kelechi poured petrol on us on his orders and he struck the first match which did not catch fire.

"When he struck the second match we were all engulfed in fire but I did not know how I managed to escape from there and I ran back to our apartment. When I noticed that Ann had been taken to the hospital, I ran out in my night gown and I never came back to the church. I came out of the place by the grace of God, I am free now, I am no longer under the spell of the accused person.”

Christianity EtcRev. Emeka King: "Why I Flogged My Church Members" by TheophilusA(op): 7:48am On Feb 27, 2016
The General Overseer of Christ Praying Assembly (CPA),Rev. Emeka Ezeugo King was on Friday, 26th February 2016 sentenced to death by the Supreme Court. When he was arrested in 2006, he narrated the circumstances that led to the incident while he was detained inside the cell of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti in Lagos. King was arrested by the police for setting six members of his church on fire.

On why he poured petrol on the church members, King had in 2006 said: "Why must I pour fuel on my worshippers? That day in question, 20 members of my church wedded and after that, I proceeded to my house. We were all feeling very happy. In my residence that evening, I heard shouts of Daddy. The screams came from one of my daughters (he calls female members of his church daughters) Kelechi. I was wearing shorts and I ran down from upstairs.

“I saw flame of fire on my daughter, Ann. When I came down, one man was helping to douse the fire on her while some other people were there. I helped in drawing her to the tap but the tap was not running. I was also praying while trying to save her. Fortunately, the fire went off. We then took her to the nearest hospital where she started receiving treatment."

On allegations that he flogged his church members, King stated further: “I am a preacher. I know that the spirit of witchcraft is against the Almighty God. If somebody is a liar, he is bewitching God. I don’t condone lie. Dr. King does not condone sin. I flog a lot. I have canes. If husband and wife mess up by having misunderstanding, I have to settle them. But the person that is at fault, I must flog. If the person refuses to be flogged, I will send him out of the church."

The majority leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Yinka Mafe who represents Sagamu I state constituency, is currently being investigated by the Ogun State Police Command for 15 alleged criminal cases. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi made this known to journalists that the majority leader is being investigated for cases involving sponsorship of cultism and other criminal activities. This is coming on the heels of a petition from the State Assembly which ordered the immediate probe of the Divisional Police Officer of Sagamu Division, John Mark over allegation of extortion of the people in Sagamu by the majority leader.

According to Adejobi, “The allegation is unknown to the command because the DPO; CSP Mark is one of the best Divisional Police Officers in this command . He was actually posted to Sagamu to uproot the evil and evil doers in Sagamu. It takes a tough man to control security arrangement in Sagamu. He is there doing what he should do and we expect people to make noise especially criminals and sponsors of criminals concerning what the DPO is doing because he is there doing what he should do.

“If the allegation had come from another person who has clean hands, the matter would have been taken more seriously by the command, but we are surprised, this is coming from Hon Mafe who is also one of the suspects we are investigating in many criminal cases in Sagamu; talking about sponsorship of cultism and many other criminal activities , he doesn’t have the moral justification to raise such an allegation against the Sagamu DPO and he should not personalise issues like this. We want to say, without mincing words that the allegations are baseless. We have 15 criminal cases against this person, all I know is that by the time we finish the investigations against him we are going to address the press."

When journalist-cum-blogger Stella Dimoko-Korkus{SDK} broke the news on her blog that Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was set to remarry, many were taken aback as the first-class monarch stepped out with his now-estranged wife Olori Bukola during his coronation in December 2015. Then-Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi at 31 years old, married Bukola {nee Bombata} in 2008. The traditional engagement and white wedding had the support of the Ogunwusis and Bombatas as both families were well-represented.

Shortly after the king's coronation, news went viral that the Ooni was linked to Ile-Ife princess, Ronke Ademiluyi. But this was not to be as the king later refuted this an untrue. And just yesterday, Island big babe Jennifer Obayuwana confirmed SDK's report and revealed on Instagram that the Olori-to-be is her cousin. According to Jennifer, "My cousin Olori Wuraola Otiti, Otemwen n'uwa, Imose, Bini Princess, let's go to Ile- Ife." All the speculations may now be laid to rest following Ooni's sister, Princess Folashade Ogunwusi-Fadairo's confirmation via Facebook where she shared a blog link. Since she shared this link on her Facebook page, there have been 141 shares and torrents of congratulatory comments.

Culture"Ooni Of Ife, Ogunwusi, Ascended Our Father Oduduwa's Throne" - Olu Of Warri by TheophilusA(op): 11:29am On Feb 22, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

The 20th Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwole I, ascended the throne in December 2015, following the passage of his elder brother, Ogiame Atuwatse II in September 2015. It is worthy of note that the Itsekiris whose paramount ruler is the Olu of Warri have a strong historical lineage with the Yorubas. The Itsekiris are believed to be the ones who carried the Oduduwa civilization to the Urhobos and the Ijaws in Delta State.

Penultimate week, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, had listed Yoruba kings in this order: Ooni of Ife(1st); Alaafin of Oyo(2nd) ; Oba of Benin(3rd); Alake of Egbaland(4th) and Awujale of Ijebuland(5th). Only the Palace of Oba of Benin has spoken on this issue that “Ooni of Ife is Oba of Benin’s son, and that they are not in the same class”. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi in a follow-up statement said “I’m not interested in supremacy battle”.

The Itsekiris however have a different view from the Binis who believe that the Ooni of Ife is the Oba of Benin's son. The Olu of Warri made this subtle affirmation in a 1-page 'thank-you' newspaper message to eminent Nigerians who graced his coronation ceremony. Thanking the royal fathers present and acknowledging the Ooni of Ife as 'leading all kings in attendance', the first-class monarch said: "All Royal fathers present led by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, who defied all permutations to personally attend the coronation, barely a few days after he himself ascended the ancient throne of our father Oduduwa." Following Ooni of Ife on the list are the Oba's Palace and Benin Traditional Council; the Obi of Onitsha; the Emir of Kano; the Etsu Nupe; and other first-class kings.

CultureOoni:"I'm Not Interested In Supremacy Battle",Alake Says,"I Stand By My Rating" by TheophilusA(op): 5:38am On Feb 10, 2016
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has said he is not interested in any supremacy battle with any king because his interest is to unite Yorubas and other tribes within the larger House of Oduduwa. According to Ooni's Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mr Moses Olafare,“Let me emphasize for the umpteenth time that Kabiyesi Ooni is less concerned over any supremacy hullabaloo, his only interest for now on the sacred throne of Oduduwa is to explore measures through which the collective interest and genuine unity among Yoruba and other tribes within the larger House of Oduduwa can be enhanced." This is coming less than 24 hours after the Esogban of Benin and Odionwere of the kingdom (Traditional Head), Chief David Edebiri on Monday said the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo goofed when he said the Oba of Benin was third in the hierarchy of Obas. Edebiri explained that the Ooni of Ife was a son of the Oba of Benin.

In a related development, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo has said he maintains his stand on the ranking of Yoruba Obas, and said he is ready to release evidence to back his claims. The Alake had listed the other Obas below the Ooni to include the Alaafin of Oyo and the Oba of Benin as second and third, respectively, while he listed his own title, the Alake of Egbaland as the fourth while the Awujale of Ijebuland occupies the lowest rung of ladder. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media Affairs, Chief Lai Labode, Alake said he does not want to engage in controversy with anyone.

Award-winning journalist Tolu Ogunlesi has dismissed allegations that he wrote the article which described ex-president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as "an ineffectual buffon who let politicians and their cronies fill their pockets with impunity". In a series of tweets, Tolu Ogunlesi said: "I'm surprised and amused by the allegations that I wrote or contributed to the Economist 'ineffectual buffoon' piece. I did not. While flattered to be associated with the Economist, whose literary style I immensely admire, I cannot claim ANY credit for that piece.I am not and have never been one to be anonymous when making journalistic comments about people. I do not hide behind anonymity.I will be sending a letter to the online publication that fabricated the allegation, asking for a retraction and a public apology.Moral of the Story: beware of rumours that cause those who fall for them to tweet like ineffectual buffoons."

Following the ongoing investigation of former governor of Plateau State,Senator Joshua Chibi Dariye by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), the anti-graft agency yesterday, told an Abuja High Court sitting at Gudu that Dariye was wanted in the United Kingdom for trial over his alleged involvement in money laundering. PoliticsNigerian Army Responds To Call For COAS Buratai's Probe Over $2.1bn Arms Deal by TheophilusA(op):
The Nigerian Army has through its spokesman Colonel Sani Usman dismissed the statement by Save the Nation Movement (STNM) calling for the probe of the current chief of army staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai over the alleged military procurement scam. Recall the group had in a statement asked for the probe of Buratai because he was the Director of Procurement at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) during the period under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).

According to a statement signed by Col. Usman: “Contrary to their mischief, it should be noted that General Buratai was Director of Procurement at Defence Headquarters from March 2014 to May 2015, not from 2012 to 2015 as they wished to mislead the public. Defence Procurement in Nigeria is decentralized and each Service is responsible for its procurement. The Chief of Army Staff had never been involved in any questionable act throughout his career as military officer including his stay at Defence. As a matter of fact, the Chief of Army Staff has always been a reference point in exemplary conduct, probity and integrity. It is on record that he voluntarily declared his assets both as Commander MNJTF and as Chief of Army Staff."

Politics"Corrupt APC&PDP Politicians Have $200billion In Dubai"- APC Senator, Shehu Sani by TheophilusA(op): 4:15am On Jan 26, 2016
The chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Debts, and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central Senatorial District) has revealed that over $200 billion was stolen by corrupt Nigerians, and stashed in Dubai. Sani, who was fielding questions from newsmen after women supporters from his political ward paid him a solidarity visit at one of his campaign offices in Kaduna, told reporters that President Muhammadu Buhari would expose and prosecute looters.

In his words, Sani said: “Corrupt Nigerians have stashed unbelievable amount of monies in Dubai alone in the name of estates acquisition, purchase of exotic houses and business partnership in the last 16 years. Some have stashed raw cash. This is why the US, and Europe are making conditions for laundering of money into their countries very difficult. These crooks have now found it conducive to use the Middle East and South East Asia as their destinations. They use names of their cronies, family members and friends to siphon public funds out of Nigeria.

“Some of them are APC members, who had their political upbringing in the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). Sooner than later those who are parading themselves as Buhari’s friends, but are corrupt, will be interrogated, prosecuted because the President does not know friend or relation as far as the fight against corruption is concerned. It was based on the information on the quantity and quality of the assets of corrupt Nigerians, that President Buhari had to sign that agreement with UAE at Abu Dhabi. I can tell you that it was smart and patriotic move.

“Let me advise the President to steer clear of hypocrites, because it is better to live with an enemy than hypocrite because hypocrite derives joy from stabbing one’s back. Over $200 billion Dollars are stashed away from Nigeria to Dubai alone. This may the monies stolen since in the past 20 years. I am not talking about estates and bonds and other securities bought with Nigeria stolen money. Buhari is going to recover all these monies and assets with the help of UAE. If you notice now, since the agreement, some of the corrupt persons are now rushing to Dubai to effect changes in the ownerships of the ill-gotten assets. But, they are just wasting their time.

”President Buhari needs the support of all Nigerians to wipe out corruption from the country. The President is on rescue mission. He needs our support. We cannot sit down idly and watch people sabotaged Buhari, and I can tell you that since Buhari went to Dubai, there were three attempts to sabotage Buhari’s government. The first one was that they planted a story in newspapers that there was crisis in Buhari’s government because he went to Dubai. The second one was that they planted fake lists of Nigerians that have property in Dubai, while we were waiting for the original list of those who have houses in Dubai. And the third one was to sponsor foreign media to discredit Buhari’s economic policies”.

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1 has joined his ancestors. The Anglican Church of Nigeria has lost a prominent member who served God to the end, Oba Odulana Odugade was aged 101. For his age and his health condition, it’s not unusual that the holy communion be administered to him at home. The Provost of St Peter’s Cathedral, Aremo, Ibadan, the Very Reverend Dr Wale Adebuji came to administer the weekly Holy Communion on Oba Odugade on Tuesday morning.

Little did Adebuji know that was the last communion the first-class monarch would take before his passage. Speaking on the communion rites, Adebuji said :”I came around yesterday (Tuesday) to administer the weekly holy communion which I usually gave Kabiyesi every Tuesday. After the programme, he waved me goodbye in Yoruba language (O dabo). But I was surprised to hear in the evening that he had joined the saints.” In the condolence register, Adebuji wrote: “We thank God for a fulfilled life lived by Kabiyesi. He actually and truly served God and humanity. May he rest in perfect peace.”

Politics"Why I Will Never Run For President In Nigeria" - Aliko Dangote by TheophilusA(op): 7:23am On Jan 19, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

Africa's richest man Alhaji Aliko Dangote is synonymous with business and wealth. It is not uncommon that men of his status run for political office or openly veto their support for certain politicians. For the billionaire businessman who turns 59 in April 2016, politics has never been of interest to him. When asked in an interview sometime back, Dangote said, "I have a very simple life. Never, never. I don't want to go beyond my life ambition ... Most of the presidents, I've been giving them advice, whether they solicit it or not. So far they always listen to me. If I have an idea, I can actualize it through our political leaders." Though Aliko Dangote is not interested in politics, he is higly-influential in the corridors of power and it is not surprising that past and present presidents in Africa court him. One of the biggest projects he has embarked on is the 650,000 barrel-per-day oil refinery and petrochemical plant in Lagos, scheduled for completion by early 2018. On completion, the facility, with capacity to produce 55.2 million liters of gasoline daily, will produce other fuels as well as fertilizer and polymers.
