One of my earlier posts on this subject.

queensmith:
APC have a website, a spokesperson and frequently address the public on ongoing events and activities, they also have twitter and a Facebook page. No where in any of these sites have they posted thus photograph and claimed this meeting took place on London. The original newspaper that apparently printed this is nowhere to be found and Linda Ikejis site is a gossip blog, not where one will go to ascertain facts.

Instead of you to follow common sense and understand Fayose has created an argument with himself, you are regurgitating information which has already been proven untrue, and allowing this senseless goat of a man to continue his spree of nonsense.
Queensmith - you advance a spirited argument, but I am afraid there is no getting around the fact that TANoids won this particular battle.
Change-agents let the guard down by circulating airport pics from 2013, as well another which showed Buhari going on a walkabout in that same year. To be frank, transcorpgate has to be viewed within the context of the misplaced euphoria generated by those earlier pics.

Of course this is not to suggest that TANoids have been particularly truthful with various claims made in the past few days.
From assertions about Buhari being stretchered out of Nigeria - when he held at least one public meeting in Abuja the same day he departed - to blatant denials about his tête-à-tête with Tony Blair, those urchins have demonstrated an apptitude for distortion and dishonesty.

My advise to change-agents is to take the moral high ground and not allow yourselves to be goaded into making statements that cannot stand up to serious scrutiny. I say this because while Shehu Garba started off well with the press release copied in below, he also chased the news reported elsewhere and ultimately succumbed to embellishment - as his latest SR interview shows.

PRESS RELEASE

Buhari, APC presidential candidate undertakes a short UK trip Abuja, Nigeria, 19 Feb 2015: The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari today (Thursday) left Abuja on a short working visit to the United Kingdom.

In the course of this visit, General Buhari is expected to hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with stakeholder interest in the affairs of Nigeria.

Toyin Saraki’s The Wellbeing Foundation Africa Donates Clean Birth Kits To Nigeria’s Internally Displaced Persons

At the behest of Mrs Aisha Buhari, the wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress Party’s intervention to alleviate challenges faced by internally displaced persons in north-east Nigeria, and in a continued effort to empower safe motherhood, decrease maternal and infant mortality rates, and to assist those in need, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa Founder, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, has donated safe delivery kits (Mama Kits) to expectant mothers at Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDPs) at Damare and St Josephs Catholic Mission in Adamawa State, Nigeria on the 11th of February 2015.

The Founder-President of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, led by Hajiya Aisha Buhari, the wife of APC Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd), and the Wellbeing Foundation Africa medical team and advocacy counsellors, encouraged the expectant mothers and advised them to “Trust in the Almighty God” because they “are not forgotten, and their newborns have a right to be born in a well-equipped environment, with skilled and respectful medical care, despite the challenges of displacement.”

Here is more of what Prof. Soyinka had to say about ‘Mr. Aye Dee’ in his memoir, “You Must Set Forth at Dawn”:

“One was a self-hating Igbira, a minority tribe from the Nigerian hinterland, whose yearning to be mistaken for a Fulani aristocratic scion had resulted in his changing his name from Daniyan to Dan’Iyan. Partnering him was an ambitious youth from Swarthmore College, Jude Uzowanne. The third member was a labor unionist from Edo in southern Nigeria, Tunde Okorodudu, an activist in his own right who fell under the spell of the fourth member and center of intrigue, the liaison officer for the U.S. Boston chapter, Maureen Idehen, a pharmacist who had worked closely with me and was central to the coordination of activities for much of the United States. Together, this Gang of Four—the accolade was spontaneously bestowed—succeeded in serving a timely lesson on the power lust even among a yet inchoate formation that sought to curb power at its most virulent and malignant. It was a low point in the career of the anti-Abacha movement, suddenly compelled to confront the banal distractions of trite intrigues and personal ambitions. Expelling the miscreants took its toll. The liaison officer, the Boston-based Maureen Idehen, made off with our scant funds, leaving behind a trail of bad checks.”

Linda Ikeji, Mukhtar Alexander Dan’iyan,Alias Aye Dee Lied, Google Has nothing to do with Site temporary Shutdown. Documents Tendered by Aye Dee were all forged

https://i2.wp.com/www.nigerianfm.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/linda-ikeji-aye-dee.jpg?

In igbo land, there was a story of a man who stood at the village square daily to raise alarm of being attacked by some forces. His kinsmen on each occasion all rushed out to rescue him and saw nobody. The day he was killed, no one came to his rescue after he raised alarm. The villagers all looked at him as a false alarmist!

Nigerians who use the Internet, felt bad after reading that Linda Ikeji’s site was shut down by Google, the internet giant. It was widely reported that Google suspended her site for plagiarism, today, this writer can tell you such thing never happened. Who then raised this false alarm?

Linda’s site was registered in July 2007 a month after Ayedee-mukhtar alexander dan’iyan’ s site was registered. While mukhtar alexander dan’iyan- AyeDee’s site ranked 500.000 globally, Linda Ikeji’s site ranked a little under 2,000 globally. How is it possible that the new man being referred to as an Internet guru has only 4 site linking, Linda who has no clue of the dynamics of the web has over 2000 Site links?

On Aye Dee’s site, he writes-

“Who are We? …5Past8 MEDIA GROUP owns and operates hundreds of websites.

Since inception in 2006, millions of unique visitors have visited, and continue to visit our diverse properties.

Covering, news, science, finance, technology, scandal, entertainment and so much more, if people are talking about it and looking for it, we’ve probably got it covered.

Each article on every site is carefully curated or created by a human being, thus allowing us to have highly engaging and deeply meaningful interaction with our audience.

Safe to say, at any given moment, tons of people all over the world are visiting our properties, shouldn’t you have your message in front of them?-5Past8 MEDIA GROUP…

His site has only 5 links Icon. Two of the links are the same. Every web master out there will tell you that 3Past8 Media is a scam site. According to Alexa.com, the only 100 views this site got came in October after Linda Ikeji introduced AyeDee’s name to Nigerians. Unfortunately, Alexa.com analysis shows that Aye Dee’s site which was updated last in 2012 has a-

Bounce Rate of
27.40% -
Daily Pageviews per Visitor-
2.90 and time spent on site-
Daily Time on Site
1:52 .

Folks, there is no way anybody who technically understands the web would have such poor numbers.

Since 2007, Aye Dee bought a web template from Heat Map, due to the fact that he has no clue on how to configure that template, he did not update it . Aye Dee also claims on that site that he has many hundreds of other sites. 9jalife.com which he registered in 2009, ranked almost 600.000 -globally and in the US, almost 2million! Obviously for those of us who use Dreamweaver to code templates, I can tell you again, the man is clueless when it comes to how to build, design and code a website. So, how did Linda Ikeji’s site became suspended?

Ayedee could not accuse Linda Ikeji of plagiarism when on the other hand, every content he tweets are other people’s contents. The Russians and Ukrainians are very good at Hacking people’s site, Aye Dee has friends who are internet hackers. It is very easy for them to bring a site down. It is a matter of sending malicious traffic to a non secured site, it will temporary shut a site down.

Mukthar Alexander Dan’iyan, alias Aye Dee’s colluded with Linda Ikeji to take her site offline temporarily. Linda Ikeji might pride herself as the queen of Junk journalism in Nigeria, this writer can say without any shadow of a doubt that she is an ignoramus. Through how she handled this whole crises and her ostentatious display of wealth which is very unusual for an Igbo Lady-her lies that Range Rover Envoque was bought for $145k when the original price of this car is $45k, leaves me with no choice than to affirm her lack of finesse, truth, class and honesty as a blogger.

All the documents Aye Dee presented to the press purported to come from Google are all fake. According to his wife, Liz Dan’Iyan who spoke to this writer from California, says ‘ Aye Dee is a master forger’. All the documents he posted online were forged! His wife told NigerianFM that the man she married in 2001 is ‘an internet rat, he is not an internet guru or Middle east expert’ as he tells people. Please listen to the audio tape of my interview with her.

For Linda Ikeji, Over the last six months, her site, has been on steady decline on page views .
As at now,

her site’s bounce rate has 38:90%, 14% down versus the last 3months. Daily Page per visits is 3.49%, 11 percent increase from the last 3 months. Daily time on Linda’s site is 7.41% a 2% spike versus the last 3 months.

In the interview, the woman alleges the following:

1. She was married to him from 2001-2004, and is now divorced. They have a child (son) together.

2. She claims he does not pay child support. The host ask, if you know his location, job and he does not pay chid support, why didn’t you go after him? She responds that she lives in another state plus he always files 1099s. She also claims he uses other women to hide money under various names so it is hard to go after him.

3. She claims he is a fraud. He lives in a house where he does not pay rent and is a squatter. She claims he is a dangerous man.

4. She claims he spends a lot of time on the internet bringing down people. He allegedly has “psychological issues.”

5. She claims women need to be careful because he uses women for his agenda.

6. She claims he is half Nigeria and half Ukranian.

7. According to her, all of the above information is verifiable information via public records.

8. She denies he is a Middle East expert as his twitter profile indicates. She claims he is “broke and poor and swindles people.”

Well, every Nigerian have the right to demand for clarification from aspirants. When the certificate issue first came up, I specifically told people to either write APC or Go to court. The Army through its spokesman denied knowlege of purported certificate in their custody(as alleged by Gen Buhari), with Buhari saying "he had thought that it was with the army". Well if Gen Buhari believe that his credentials was looted by IBB regime, all he needs to do is to state so to clear the air on perjury allegation. It is obvious that Gen Buhari didn't submit any certificate to the army as at time of enlistment but a letter of recommendation. He "might" have sat for the exam afterward(according to his submission) but there is a question of whether or not he submitted same document to the Army(if he actually did the exam). There are actually two issues in this case...

1. Did he obtain the WASC? Though not too relevant in this contest, but it becomes important because he had stated it in his inec form. Howevr, retrieving a CTC will put matter to rest except the court in its wisdom decides to admit the Statement of Result from Katsina College.

2. Did he give his WASC to the Army Board? Or IBB looted it? If both answers are negative, then his claim of it being held with the Army Board amount to falsehood and perjury. But if the latter is in the positive, then he has a vindication.

On good conscience, even you must recognise that this latest lawsuit is not a genuine attempt to achieve probity.

EXCLUSIVE: Katsina College releases Buhari’s WASC results

Government College, formerly Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, which Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, graduated from in 1961, has released Mr. Buhari’s secondary school certificate examination results.

The results, obtained exclusively by PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday, confirm Mr. Buhari’s claim that he undertook the University of Cambridge West African School Certificate Examinations and obtained five credits in English Language, Geography, Hausa Language, History, and Health Science.

PREMIUM TIMES obtained the computer printout from Cambridge University as well as a statement of result, signed by the current principal of Katsina College, dated January 21, 2015.

The results show that Mr. Buhari, a former military head of state, failed in Mathematics and Woodwork, and had a pass in Literature in English.
The examination centre number was 8280, while Mr. Buhari’s candidate number was 002.

The statement of results is printed on the letter head paper of the Katsina State Ministry of Education, and it shows that the examination took place in 1961.

The Cambridge print out also shows the result of 17 other candidates at the centre, including Shehu Yar’Adua, a former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters.

Buhari once ordered me to dismiss 48 errant cadets in NDA, 32 of them Muslims – Gen. Paul Tarfa

...

...

“In those days when Nigeria was Nigerianising its military, many of the officers that you see today did not even have their school certificates until long after.

“When we were invited to go to Kaduna, we were given qualifying examination in English, Mathematics and General Knowledge, even before we took the school certificate exam. Some did not even wait to take their school certificates because vacancies were already waiting for them.

“It was after that qualifying exam that we were recruited into the army. By the time some had their school certificates, they had become officers.

“For example, Gen. Babangida never saw his school certificate until when he was head of state. I got my school certificate long after I became an officer.

“But there was officer cadet qualifying examination. About 240 of us sat for that exam in Kaduna”.

Befitting response.

Jarus:
International community knows I cannot forge a document and attribute it to Cambridge of all places.

A document (statement of result) has been flying around in Cambridge's name, if it was forged, Cambridge would have issued a disclaimer. They don't need a candidate's consent to disclaim a material attributed to them.

Just as they didn't need candidate's approval to tell us that they offered Hausa in 1961 in Northern Nigeria and other lies by PDP with respect to the result: http://cambridgeassessment.org.uk/news/statement-in-response-to-nigerian-presidential-election-enquiries/

Cambridge would not keep quiet if something fake is attributed to them. They have seen the Buhari's statement of results flying around and if the content was not what they scored Buhari in 1961, they would have come out to deny it, just as they disclaimed PDP's lies on Hausa language etc.

Lying against someone does not require any consent to bust.

Anyone with quarter brain knows this.

The international community knows this. They know it's a ridiculous lie by the PDP. Did you notice that The Economist did not even talk about certificate in highlighting the negatives of Buhari in their Editorial.

For the doubters, included below is a presentation delivered back in 2012.

Unlikely activist: Toyin Saraki at TEDxEuston

Toyin Saraki is the Founder of The WellBeing Foundation, a front-line maternal and child health focused Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria. She was until recently the First Lady of Kwara State in Nigeria. Having held various leadership positions in humanitarian organizations for close to two decades, Mrs Saraki now dedicates much of her time to the work of The WellBeing Foundation and various networks of organizations that the NGO works with. She constantly advocates for improved governmental policies, better working relationships between NGOs and the continuum of care for maternal, newborn and child health in communities. These efforts have made Mrs. Saraki one of the most heard voices on every issue relating to the health of mothers and children in Nigeria. Her working style has integrated a strong advocacy profile with a unique model of community participation, direct action, effective communication and the development of innovative funding mechanisms in a resource constrained environment, to ensure universal access to quality basic healthcare. Mrs. Saraki gained her bachelor's degree in law at the University of London School Of Oriental and African Studies and her masters' degree in International Economic Law at University of London King's College. She has researched and promoted the rights of women and children. In 2007 she was appointed Chair of the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) Committee on the Protection of Children..

Buhari Is A Better Christian Than Jonathan By Ikechukwu Orji

FEB 27, 2015

There is absolutely nothing Christ-like in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

https://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/Buhari-Bishop.jpg?
Muhammadu Buhari with a Catholic Bishop during a recent meeting with catholics in Abuja

It was Mahatma Gandhi who said he admired Christ not Christians. I guess he said this to remind people that most Christians are definitely not Christ-like. One cannot claim to be a Christian when his attitude is opposite of the principle that we are called to live by. There is no middle ground in this race. It is either you are living like Christ or you are a pretender. People like pretending to be what they are not. It is for this reason that one writer defined hypocrisy as a tribute that vice pays to virtue.

There is absolutely nothing Christ-like in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. His policies are harsh towards the common man. He has done absolutely nothing for the poor of the land. Rather, he has done a lot to favour the rich and eminent personalities. Any true Christian knows that God loves the poor and is earnestly seeking to do them good. He is seriously looking for those to use to render service to the poor. It can only take a wicked man to increase the prices of petroleum products on a New Year day thereby causing immense hardship to numerous poverty stricken citizens. Any government that is anti poor is anti God.

Jonathan has refused to go after those who are squandering our patrimony. Corruption is rampant and he is pretending that all is well. You cannot be a follower of Christ and allow evil to run rampant around you. How long can we continue this dance of death? How long are we going to allow these men from the forest of thousand demons to continue to desecrate our land? It is about time we chased them away. We need discipline and decorum in governance. And that is what Muhammadu Buhari is about.

Buhari is everything that Jonathan is not. He is disciplined, painstaking and has a visceral dislike for corruption. He has promised to confront corruption and he is just about the only politician that has the credential to do that. He has done it before and he will do it again. The man cares passionately for the poor of the land and wants to do his bit to help them. Buhari is not a drunk and he is not in the business of running around with other people’s wives. As a Head of State, 11 out of 19 Ministers appointed by him were Christians.

Buhari showed leadership when a dangerous Islamic sect known as Maitatsine threatened our peace. He refused to register Nigeria as a member of the Organization of Islamic Countries and banned government sponsorship of pilgrimages to Mecca. It is a well- known fact that his personal aides and domestic workers are mostly Christians and under him no one was victimized on the basis of religion. It is on record that Jonathan is the first President to lead Nigerian delegation to the Organization of Islamic Countries in February 2013. He has spent an average of $14 billion on 26, 000 Haji pilgrims annually from 2010. From all ramifications, Buhari has more Christian qualities than Jonathan.

Buhari’s government will focus on building a society that would begin to move the powers of a smothering federal government back to states and local government. Government will be closer to the people and better aware of their real needs and wants. APC as party is open and beckoning to a majority of Nigerians not because we are handing out goodies to people but because we have a better proposal for them and their families.

As a transformational leader, Buhari is sure of what he wants happen and is extraordinarily strong-willed about it. He has one thing in mind instead of a variety of passing impulses. He wants a society full of opportunities. In short, the key to a successful transformational leader is to keep your eyes focused on your goals. And the people’s general has a knack for ignoring unproductive criticism and feels neither threatened nor moved by it. He is not one of such politicians that display so much pettiness and hostility that is simply not productive. Surely, Nigeria will be better under him.

Those people you've called plants were the crux of the lousy and rowdy demonstration of those apparently supporting GEJ (as opposed to being vehemently against buhari)

You could even tell that most of the protesters were unwilling to speak to her and even avoided her alltogether

I didnt see her claim shes trying to be unbiased, she was clearly with the group of supporters and was curious about the band of randoms that decided to protest in a ghetto way in front of a highly regarded institution hosting an academic event.

Turns out they are hired 'entertainers' from Manchester, which explains alot.

Don't mind @OP and his jaded reasoning.

When another General decided to his best foot forward in 2010, in the run-up to the last elections, word on the street had it that; a hefty sum was similarly routed through the Nigerian community in Manchester - for onward disbursement.
The difference between then and now is, the greater focus a discerning social-media community has placed on current developments

PDP RENTED CROWD...IN DEFENSE OF ROSE P. GRAHAM

A lot of things have been said about Nigerian UK based journalist, Rose P Graham, who made one of the most controversial videos so far, in the coverage of the current Nigerian election cycle. The video is of purported PDP rented protesters at Gen Buhari's Chatham House Speech, there to 'protest' the speech and presence of the APC candidate. RPG, as she is known, has been insulted, threatened, vilified and praised. All these reactions are evidence of the significance of what she has done in her capacity as a fact finder. Some people have called her an APC paid agent herself, and accused her of renting the interview persons herself. This is the most serious allegation against her and I looked into it. It is a blatant lie. Another video has now emerged on social media of a lady simply referred to as Adijatu, who said, and she did not cover her face, that she was paid $20,000 to 'organize' the PDP protest. RPG had nothing to do with the PDP crowd, literally. There is currently no evidence that she was paid to appear on behalf of APC.

If that is the case at the moment, why are we not celebrating her as a fact finding hero? Hasn't the substance of her interview with the purported rented crowd not now vindicated? If all the brown envelope loving journalists in Nigeria pursued the facts with a similar passion as RPG don't we think we should have had a better country long since? Threats (to even life), condemnation, personal attacks. These are the hazards of the profession that a shameless generation of journalists have scurried consistently away from. And here is a new mother who should be nursing her baby at home, out on the streets, fearlessly showing her passion and doing her job, never mind the hazards. She has even been accused of exposing her baby to harm!

Fellow Nigerians, and friends of Nigeria, didn't what just happen at Chatham House, London, expose the character of the two political movements struggling for the soul and destiny of our nation? If PDP have no passion left in London on the ground and if they resorted to paying cash for appearance what does that say about the wisdom of the people managing their argument to prolong their stay in power as a whole? Rented mourners can never cry more than the owners of the corpse, as Chinua Achebe wrote. And this is a party that wants us to believe they stand against corruption. They want us to believe that, right? Or else why would they be asking us to vote them to continue. They can't seriously be asking us to vote them to continue with their corrupt exhibitions now, would they? People like RPG came out in passionate support of what they believe in as the way forward for Nigeria. This passion is the greatest investment anybody can make in the interest of our beloved country at the moment. You can't complain that you are too poor and have nothing to offer. You have passion to offer. Rise to your feet!
'The death of democracy,' wrote Robert Hutchins, 'is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference and undernourishment.'
Passion and the explosion of it is what we need at the moment. Not ignorant violent passion, but courageous positive driven passion. A salient and brave effort to say the loudest of what your side is saying, without fear or favor. And to promise to listen to what the other side is saying, without violence or threats. This is healthy democracy.

I have said that I have no problem with the presence of PDP at Chatham House. I stand by that. In fact, I think they should be there. Paying people cash to come and represent your passion however is a cowardly low life act, driven by a desperation that is looking hopeless. It is politics, PDP. Not a TV commercial shoot. I am sure that in the UK you could have found people that believed so much in your case that they would have come out for you. But did you even bother to find them? Money can't buy you passion, as it reportedly bought everyone banging your campaign drum. It can only buy you people that would make YouTube videos after they have collected your money.

There are those who think that RPG shouldn't be rooting for a political party because she is a journalist. I think it is her choice, until she stops being a Nigerian. I am more concerned about if she lies in her capacity as a journalist to help her side of our political story. That hasn't happened.
I think RPG is a gallant, fearless and passionate fact finder. She deserves our accolade for the work she did at Chatham House, London, not our condemnation. May God continue to protect her, and all like her, from the dangerous hazards of their crucial profession. Amen.

An ING agenda
An Interim National Government (ING) agenda seemed to have taken a life of its own as the desperate last card of those determined to scuttle the democratic project. But it was one that could never fly! Even the Attorney General of the Federation, was forced by circumstance, to state clearly that there was nowhere in Nigerian law that justification can be found for the ING idea.
The build up of national and international forces was also making it a dead on arrival idea. The new pro-democracy body, Nigerians United for Democracy (NUD), also argued that there was no way that President Goodluck Jonathan can lead any so-called Interim National Government. If it ever appeared tempting before, I think by the beginning of this week, having noticed the unpopularity of the idea, even President Goodluck Jonathan was forced to describe any such tilt towards an ING as illegal.

But what remains foggy for Nigerians is the overall agenda of the security apparatus. Yes, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, has assured that the elections will hold at the end of April, but Nigerians are still very suspicious of the cloak-and-dagger scenario that led to the postponement of the elections in the first place.

War against Boko Haram
The past two weeks have also been particularly interesting on the warfront against Boko haram. The rapid advances against the insurgents have been heart warming, with the Chadians Army taking a string of towns and villages. Similarly, the Nigerian Army also witnessed an arousal of martial pride, with our forces finally going on the offensive and rapidly retaking Monguno and Baga.
All of a sudden, there is a concerted information onslaught that seemed targeted at showcasing progress of the war effort as well as to assist the flagging campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan. Nigerian Airforce jets and attack helicopters began pounding targets in Gwoza, Bama and the Sambisa forest. But most intriguing of all, was the open announcement by President Goodluck Jonathan, that the terrorist leader, Abubakar Shekau, will soon be arrested! That was the same Shekau that the security forces announced his killing at least twice in the past year!
By the beginning of this week, a new twist emerged as the story went viral in social media, that the order to arrest Shekau, was part of a political dirty tricks campaign. The opposition APC raised an alarm that there was a plot to “frame up” General Muhammadu Buhari; and the proof was in the order to troops to “capture alive Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau”.
The statement added that “a fake Shekau…will be made to state that he is working” for General Muhammadu Buhari. The essence of this dastardly plan was to deal a fatal blow against the relentless momentum that the Buhari campaign gathered. The circles that have profited so much from the Jonathan administration in the past six years: from the lumpen warlords in the creeks turned billionaires; the oil subsidy beneficiaries; those privileged to get dubious waivers; through to sundry godfathers, like Chief EK Clarke, are looking at defeat in the face and they are scared stiff!

This is the reason they have been launching all types of anti-democratic agendas. And it is this frightening background that kindled the plan to launch Nigerians United for Democracy (NUD)

A National Day of Action has been earmarked for Saturday, February 28th, 2015. On that day, Nigerians are urged to stand hand-to-hand to send a strong message to government and the Nigerian political elite, that citizens will never tolerate any attempt to interfere with the elections or any step to truncate the democratic process. Nigerians are defending democracy because a lot of sacrifice went into winning the democratic spaces that sections of the ruling class are attempting to subvert in 2015!

Nigerians are united for democracy

February 26, 2015

https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Femi-Falana.jpg

LAST weekend in Lagos, activist lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), announced the emergence of a new organization, dedicated to the protection of the democratic project in Nigeria. The new organization is called Nigerians United for Democracy (NUD). The new body is a clear indication that Nigerian activists are prepared to go back to the trenches to defend the hard won space of democracy in our country.
This new initiative was triggered by anger at the decision taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to postpone by six weeks, the elections initially scheduled to commence on February 14th.

It was clear that INEC had been forced by the nation’s security apparatus to postpone the elections, despite public declaration by the election management body, that it was ready to conduct the elections from February 14th.
It was instructive that INEC had declared that it was better prepared for the postponed elections, than it was for the 2011 elections, which brought President Goodluck Jonathan to power.

The president, his party and supporters had regularly boasted those elections as having been free and fair! The context and reality in 2015 had changed considerably; and while a security excuse was dropped on INEC’s lap as blackmail, potent enough to force the hands of the commission; it was clear that something was gravely rotten in the state of Denmark, to paraphrase Shakespeare!

In the days since INEC was boxed into a security corner, leading to the subsequent elections postponement, a lot came to the fore, which underscore the extent of scheming by anti-democratic forces in the country.

There is the vulgar, orchestrated campaign against the National Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega. The same man who presided over the 2011 elections which they laud to high heavens was suddenly turned to the straw man of a desperate group of reactionary individuals and groups, whose sole purpose was to engineer Professor Jega’s exit from INEC.

His “crime” from their perspective, is his fierce independence and refusal to be influenced or bent in a direction to achieve a certainty that their candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, will be assured of a shoehorn into a new term into office. A group of reactionary old men, centred around the self-declared “Ijaw Leader”, Chief EK Clarke, and including such individuals as Dr. Femi Okuronmu and Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has been at the forefront of a scurrilous campaign attempting to turn Professor Attahiru Jega into the issue in the 2015 elections.

They issued a particularly irresponsible accusation that the INEC Chairman was coordinating activities with the Northern Elders’ Forum, to ensure that General Muhammadu Buhari emerged winner of the presidential election. At the weekend, Ezeife expressed the minds of members of the reactionary clique when he told SUNDAY SUN newspaper that: “I don’t even want the elections to go ahead, if it must be conducted by Jega, as chairman of INEC”. Without even any sense of shame, the former Anambra state governor openly stated their desire, demanding that Professor Attahiru Jega either resigns or be suspended.

If the coming elections leads to Nigeria’s “death” (Nigeria’s death for these old reactionaries means President Jonathan’s defeat!), then an Interim National Government (ING) should be set up with President Goodluck Jonathan at the helm!

Pro-Democracy Groups Begin Nationwide Rallies Against Polls Shift, ING, Military Coup

February 26, 2015

https://ireports-ng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Pro-democracy-activists-on-protest.jpg?

Pro-democracy groups across Nigeria are set to begin rallies in major cities in the country to warn the federal government against any further shift in election dates, military coup or introduction of interim government. The groups under the banner of Nigerians United for Democracy, NUD unveiled their plans at a news briefing in Abuja today.

While justifying their action, they said “More than two decades ago, the Nigerian people led by the progressive extraction of the civil society protested against the manipulation of political transition from military dictatorship to democratic rule. Notwithstanding the repressive attacks on our people by the military power mongers, the Ibrahim Babangida junta was defeated. The political crisis over the annulment of the results of the presidential election held on June 12, 1993 culminated in the imposition of the Interim National Government headed by Chief Ernest Shonekan. To the utter dismay of the military hierarchy, the Interim National Government was declared illegal and unconstitutional by the Lagos High Court.

“The anti-democratic forces regrouped under General Sani Abacha who sacked the illegal Interim National Government and installed himself a military head of State. The murderous junta waged an unsuccessful war against the Nigerian people for 5 years. In the process, some of the political leaders who had collaborated with the dictator were either eliminated or chased into exile. At the end of the day, the maximum ruler was defeated by the Nigerian people. His successor, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, had no choice but to hand over power to a civilian regime headed by General Olusegun Obasanjo.

Instead of building and strengthening the institutions of democracy, the Obasanjo Administration engaged in the subversion of the Constitution. The autonomy of public institutions was jettisoned. The rule of law was disregarded as court orders were treated with disdain. The leadership of the National Assembly and the ruling party was imposed and changed by the Presidency at will. Candidates were handpicked while the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC became an extension of the Presidency. In a desperate bid to extend his tenure, President Obasanjo decided to foist a third term agenda on the nation. Once again, the Nigerian people defeated the satanic agenda. The “do or die” 2007 general election was crudely manipulated by the Presidency.

It was so embarrassing that the newly elected President, the Late Mr. Umaru Yaradua admitted that the election was highly flawed. Two years later, the President took ill and was flown abroad for treatment. A cabal took advantage of the absence of the President and decided to rule the country by proxy. The Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was prevented from exercising any power in the absence of the President. Once again, the civil society organizations staged rallies to protest the illegal seizure of power by the cabal. The protests forced the National Assembly to pass a resolution which made President Jonathan the Acting President of the Republic under the doctrine of necessity.

In 2011, a general election was conducted by the INEC under the chairmanship of Professor Attahiru Jega. The presidential election was won by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. But as the nation was preparing for the 2015 General Election slated for February 14 and 28, 2015, the Jonathan Administration commenced a campaign for postponement. Following the refusal of the Council of State to support the postponement, the National Security Adviser to the President and the security chiefs wrote to the INEC to the effect that they could not provide security for the election, as the armed forces would be involved in a military operation in the north east region. As the operation would last for six weeks the INEC was compelled to shift the election to March 28 and April 11, 2015.

As far as we are concerned, the postponement of the elections at the instance of service chiefs cannot be justified in law. It was a plot to undermine the democratic process and prevent Nigerians from exercising their right of franchise. Having fought the war on terror for six years, there is no indication that the Boko Haram sect would be wiped out in six weeks. Since the operation is limited to 14 local governments there was no basis for not holding election in the remaining 760 local government areas in the federation and the 6 area councils in the federal capital territory.

A former President, Chief Obasanjo has cried out against the plan of the federal government to cancel the election and install an interim national government. In its reaction to the grave allegation, the Presidency accused Chief Obasanjo of trying to head the Interim National Government. However, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke SAN has stated that there is no provision for interim government in the Constitution.

In the circumstance, we wish to warn those who are planning to install an interim government or a coup de tat to discard the idea. We have had enough of dictatorial regimes in Nigeria.

We are however worried that the new election dates are not sacrosanct. According to the INEC chairman, Professor Jega, only the service chiefs could guarantee that the rescheduled elections would hold. That was the submission of the INEC boss when he appeared at the Senate last week. For reasons best known to them, the security chiefs have not assured the nation that security would be provided on the new election dates. We are compelled to call on the National Assembly to extract a firm undertaking from the NSA and the security chiefs that the General Elections would not be further postponed or disrupted.

The undertaking ought to be made publicly by the security chiefs in view of the categorical pronouncement of the Court of Appeal that the armed forces have no role to play in the electoral process. Since all authorities and persons are bound to obey the verdicts of our courts, the President and the security chiefs should demonstrate their commitment to follow the rule of law by withdrawing soldiers from election duties. At the same time, the revelations in the audio cassette recorded by an army Captain on the role of the military and other government officers and their cohorts in the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state should be investigated without any delay. More so, that some of the dramatis personae have admitted their role in the criminal enterprise.

We need to prevent a slide into anarchy; we need to take our destiny in our hands; we need to ensure that darkness does not once again descend on our country. We are insisting that nothing must change the new dates of March 28 and April 11. Elections must be allowed to hold on these dates. Nigeria is on the march again, this time; no one will be able to halt the decisive will of the people for democracy and sustainable livelihood.

We are also worried by the incumbent move to frustrate INEC in conducting credible election by pushing for the use of Temporary Voter Card which will not allow for the use of Card Readers already procured for checkmating election rigging. The affidavits filed by the Attorney General, Mohammed Bello Adoke that is already in public media further confirms attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan’s government to undermine the use of permanent voter cards (PVCs) in the country’s forthcoming elections, which the main purpose is to perfect plans to rig the March poll.

“Finally, in rejecting the manipulation of the political transition, the Nigerians United for Democracy (NUD) will continue with its rallies at Abuja, Kano, Lagos, Osogbo, Port Harcourt and Imo to condemn the conspiracy of the ruling clique against Nigerians. The rallies is for Nigerians to stand hand-in-hand to speak with one voice against electoral terrorism, against any further poll shift, against any attempt to introduce an Interim Government, against any military incursion into politics, against corruption, against the devaluation of the national currency and conspiracy to use the court to frustrate INEC from conducting credible election. We call on Nigerians to come out in large numbers to assert themselves and take control of their destiny.”
