PoliticsRe: Governor Fayose Accuses Buhari Of Embarking On Secret Medical Visit Abroad by TheOtherview: 8:54am On Feb 20, 2015
9jagistonline:
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the secret trip made today, by the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) to the United Kingdom (UK) enroute United States of America (USA) for medical treatment has shown that the APC leaders, especially Senator Bola Tinubu were covering up his (Buhari) true health status for their selfish gains.

Buhari travelled to the UK today unannounced, fueling speculations that he was flown abroad in an air ambulance.

Though a statement later issued by the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation said that Buhari was on a short working visit to the UK,
Governor Fayose, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said the party was
not saying the truth.

The governor said; “The truth is that Buhari travelled out today to seek medicare in USA.

“If the APC people are saying otherwise, let them publish the picture of Buhari boarding the plane and granting interview to Aviation
Correspondents at the Abuja Airport.

“While I am happy that the APC people that are packaging Buhari finally hearkened to my plea that they should allow him (Buhari) to
seek medicare abroad, I must say that it was evil for the APC to have lied that Buhari travelled on a working visit.

“These APC political merchants should say the truth and save Nigeria from the possibility of another Yar’Adua experience.

“They should tell Nigerians that Buhari is actually sick and lack capacity to rule Nigeria and that they are only packaging him, hoping that he will become incapacitated if he becomes president so that they can take over power by proxy.”

While wishing Buhari speedy recovery, Governor Fayose said; “Like I have maintained, the north should wait till 2019 to produce a younger, energetic and healthy president of Nigeria.”
Do the pictures included below suggest we are looking at a man who was stretchered out of Obodo Nigeria?

I dey come, I've got the cure for Fayose's peculiar illness grin

Before Buhari travelled to the United Kingdom today, he met APC members of House of Reps (Photos)

February 19, 2015

We reported earlier that APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, left Abuja today for the United Kingdom on a short working visit.

Before he did however, he met with members of the APC in the federal house of representatives at the APC presidential campaign office.

Buhari attended the meeting alongside the party’s national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun and a former senator who is now deputy director general of the campaign, Sen. Olurunmibe Mamora.

Just to be clear, the article posted by OP is a hoax.

Pope Francis Declares All Religions are True

On December 2013, the Diversity Chronicle blog published an article positing that at the Third Vatican Council, Pope Francis had condemned racism, welcomed pro-choice and homosexual members to the church, and declared that "we all worship the same God" and that "all religions are true":

For the last six months, Catholic cardinals, bishops and theologians have been deliberating in Vatican City, discussing the future of the church and redefining long-held Catholic doctrines and dogmas. The Third Vatican Council, is undoubtedly the largest and most important since the Second Vatican Council was concluded in 1962. Pope Francis convened the new council to "finally finish the work of the Second Vatican Council." While some traditionalists and conservative reactionaries on the far right have decried these efforts, they have delighted progressives around the world.

To a chorus of thunderous applause, Pope Francis stated "because Muslims, Hindus and African Animists are also made in the very likeness and image of God, to hate them is to hate God! To reject them to is to reject God and the Gospel of Christ. Whether we worship at a church, a synagogue, a mosque or a mandir, it does not matter. Whether we call God, Jesus, Adonai, Allah or Krishna, we all worship the same God of love. This truth is self-evident to all who have love and humility in their hearts!"

In a speech that shocked many, the Pope claimed "All religions are true, because they are true in the hearts of all those who believe in them. What other kind of truth is there? In the past, the church has been harsh on those it deemed morally wrong or sinful. Today, we no longer judge. Like a loving father, we never condemn our children. Our church is big enough for heterosexuals and homosexuals, for the pro-life and the pro-choice! For conservatives and liberals, even communists are welcome and have joined us. We all love and worship the same God."

Shortly afterwards links and excerpts referencing this article were being circulated via social media, with many of those who encountered the item mistaking it for a genuine news item. However, the article was just a spoof: No Third Vatican Council has been convened (the Second Vatican Council took place in the early 1960s), and the blog that published this item, the Diversity Chronicle includes a disclaimer noting that "The original content on this blog is largely satirical."

PoliticsGo To Court, Saharareporters Dares Obanikoro by TheOtherview(op): 2:06pm On Feb 19, 2015
Go To Court, SaharaReporters Dares Obanikoro

Online news portal, SaharaReporters, has challenged former Minister of State for Defence and ministerial nominee, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, to go ahead with his threat to sue it for exposing the audio tape of the meeting he had with a military officer and others to rig the 21 June, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.

SaharaReporters, through its publisher, Omoyele Sowore, in a phone chat with P.M.NEWS on Thursday, challenged Obanikoro to go to court.
Obanikoro, who, in his desperate move to get his ministerial nomination approved by the National Assembly, has reportedly confessed to some senators that he was in Ekiti State on the eve of the election and was at the meeting at the behest of President Goodluck Jonathan and that he has asked his U.S. lawyers to sue SaharaReporters.

Sowore said he would be delighted to see Obanikoro in New York where he expects the former minister would thoroughly mess himself up because his libel suit would lack merit and he won’t be able to bribe any judge to pervert the course of justice in his favour.
He said Obanikoro would suffer the same fate as three other Nigerians who tried to sue SaharaReporters for libel in New York but ended up losing their cases.

According to Sowore, Paul Orhii, the Director-General of NAFDAC; Emeka Ugwonye, a Nigerian lawyer who helped the Nigerian government to sell properties in U.S., and another Nigerian lawyer, Eric Abakporo, at various times, sued him and SaharaReporters for libel but lost.
He said the case of Abakporo, a pastor, was even more pathetic as he ended up being jailed for seven years as a fraudulent estate agent who also duped an old woman in U.S.

Sowore said the ultimate defence against libel is the truth, adding that a U.S. company has authenticated the voices in the audio tape and there was no way Obanikoro could controvert or deny it.

He said that in a decent society, Obanikoro ought to be arrested, tried and jailed for his role in the Ekiti rigging.
“It is a shame he is being rewarded with a ministerial appointment,” Sowore said.

Obanikoro had earlier denied his involvement in the Ekiti meeting, only to turn around to confess to several senators in Abuja that he did participate in an election-eve meeting in Ekiti in June 2014 in which a group of politicians and government ministers met with a Nigerian army general to rig the governorship election in favour of Ayodele Fayose, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The meeting, which is now known as “Ekitigate”, was secretly taped by an Army Captain, Sagir Koli, who was subsequently forced to flee for his life.

Obanikoro’s story is that he was simply making “peace” between the army and Ayo Fayose at the meeting, claiming that he was not party to any conversation about rigging.

On the contrary, Obanikoro, who was at the time junior Minister for Defence, is overheard clearly on the tape bragging about the authority granted him by President Jonathan.

He was heard in the audio tape telling the Army General, Brig.Gen Momoh, that his promotion depended on whether he was ready to ‘play ball’.
According to SaharaReporters, prior to admitting his involvement to the Senators, the former minister met with President Jonathan to discuss the tape and his role.

A presidency source said Obanikoro told President Jonathan he was present at the meeting but that a part of the audio-recording was “doctored”.

The source said President Jonathan had called Obanikoro to the meeting to discuss how to mitigate the damage caused by the leaked tape.
Obanikoro told the Senators categorically that it was Jonathan himself who had sent him to Ekiti to help Fayose win the election.
On the tape, Obanikoro says, at least twice, that he is on a “mission” for the President.

He also reportedly told President Jonathan at their meeting that he had asked his US-based lawyers to do a separate voice analysis of the tape and that the lawyers came back with “proof” that certain aspects of the tape had been doctored by SaharaReporters to make the administration look bad. Counting on that assurance, President Jonathan told a team of reporters from the Wall Street Journal during an interview that the tapes were not real and that he would not investigate the incident.

PoliticsRe: Has GEJ Really Constructed 25,000km Of Roads? by TheOtherview: 10:18am On Feb 19, 2015
Are the majority of Nigeria’s roads now ‘motorable’?

Nigeria’s president has claimed that “motorable” roads have increased five-fold since 2010. There is little evidence to support his claim.

https://africacheck.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/000_Par80151781-624x350.jpg

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan recently announced his second term bid and made several claims about his government’s achievements, including improvements to road networks in the country.

“When I assumed office in 2010, out of the 35,000km of federal roads nationwide, only about 5,000km were motorable, Jonathan said on 11 November. “Today, that number has increased to about 25,000km.”

That assertion seemed extreme, given the notoriously potholed state of Nigerian roads, so Africa Check investigated, and found that there was little evidence to support the claim.

This isn’t the first such claim

Jonathan’s words echo comments made several times in recent months by the Federal Ministry of Works, which oversees roads owned by the government.

In July the Punch newspaper quoted the minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, as saying that 71% of federal roads are now motorable.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Council of Works in October the minister repeated the claim, saying: “From about 4,500km of fair roads in 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has revamped the kilometers of good roads to more than 25,000.” He estimated the cost of the repairs at 1.765trn naira – around $9.6bn.

One week before the presidential declaration, he repeated the claim, saying: “Over 70% of our road network is now motorable when compared to about 16% at the inception of this administration.”

https://africacheck.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/000_Par1266468-300x199.jpg

There is little evidence to support it

Corroborating this is difficult. Of the government agencies involved in initiating road works, the Federal Ministry of Works provides the most detail. Examples include these speeches by the minister, in May 2014 and September 2014. Included in those are lists of some of the federal government’s road projects between 2011 and 2014.

But there is no government document that exhaustively outlines federal road projects in Nigeria, says Stanley Achonu, operations lead at Budgit, a Lagos-based start-up that tracks government spending.

Budgit has found it “difficult” to track the 25,000km of claims, he says. The available evidence “doesn’t add up to 25,000km.

At the same time, Nigerians do not seem to be particularly happy with the state of their roads. A 2013 snap poll by NOIPolls, a Gallup-affiliated agency, showed that 7 out of every 10 Nigerians consider them “unsafe”.

The government is playing with words

Achonu also points out that there’s a semantics issue at work in the way government officials refer to road works, allowing for generous interpretations of their work.

The descriptions of the work in the minister’s speeches range from “maintenance” to “rehabilitation” to “dualisation.” Which raises obvious questions. What does it mean for a road to be “maintained”?

And, as Achonu queries, if the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) fills a handful of potholes on the 120km stretch of road that is the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, does that mean the entire road is then added to the catalogue of roads rendered “motorable”?

Even the president’s concept of “motorable” is a loose one. As the World Bank points out in this 2009 document there is no single agreed definition. According to Dr Adewole Oladele, a Nigerian academic who is currently the project manager of the Transportation Technology Transfer Unit at the University of Botswana, a motorable road is “accessible by a vehicle, safe, with comfort and no obstruction.” Such a road wouldn’t necessarily have to be paved, Oladele said.

But some improvements are evident

That’s not to say there isn’t some evidence of success in revamping road infrastructure. Achonu says this is especially visible in Abuja, the capital, where Budgit is tracking a number of large-scale road projects.

Apart from the Federal Ministry of Works (which oversees FERMA), there are a number of government agencies investing independently in road projects: the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (set up by President Jonathan in 2012 to invest the savings from the partial removal of petrol subsidies), and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which invests in infrastructure projects in the oil-rich Delta region.

There is also a special intervention project – the Nigerian Federal Roads Development Project – to which the World Bank is committing $330m with the aim of cutting “passenger travel times, vehicle operating costs and traffic related fatalities.”

Conclusion: Little evidence to support Jonathan’s claims

While there have been some road improvements (particularly in advance of elections, as the government seeks to win votes), there is no exhaustive proof to corroborate the president’s assertion. It would appear that the claims are exaggerated.

‘Africa Check’ Dismisses Jonathan Claim of 25,000 Motorable Roads

Africa Check, a non-partisan organization which promotes accuracy in public debate and the media, has debunked a recent assertion by President Goodluck Jonathan that under his watch, most of Nigeria’s roads have become “motorable,” saying the claim lacks evidence.

https://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/Ngerian_delorable_roads.jpg
A Nigerian highway in deplorable condition Africa Check.org

“When I assumed office in 2010, out of the 35,000km of federal roads nationwide, only about 5,000km were motorable, Jonathan said as he formally declared on 11 November that he would seek another term of office. “Today, that number has increased to about 25,000km.”

Using information from various sources, including Budgit, a Lagos-based start-up which tracks government spending, Africa Check said that there is some evidence of success in revamping road infrastructure, particularly in the Abuja area, the claim is an overkill in terms of the amount and quality of the work undertaken.

“While there have been some road improvements (particularly in advance of elections, as the government seeks to win votes), there is no exhaustive proof to corroborate the president’s assertion,” Africa Check said. “It would appear that the claims are exaggerated.”

A key part of the enquiry is the atrocious quality of most of the roads even when they are broadcast as completed or revamped, and the government appears headed for a cul-de-sac trying to explain to voters how many death-traps can be called motorable roads.

It would also be recalled that last week, various observers pointed out that some of the claims of achievement or “transformation” being claimed by the federal government to boost President Jonathan’s electoral chances are actually state projects. Critics point out that Mr. Jonathan has barely addressed any of the promises he made in the 2011 electoral campaign.

Sowore Reacts to Gbenga Obasanjo

PT: You publish very damning reports, how are you able to ensure your safety and that of your colleagues?
Sowore: Our first mission is to make information available to people in a way they can use as they want. That mission has been fulfilled. The second aspect of our mission is to speak truth to power. And the third aspect of it, in some cases and in most cases, is to damn the consequences for as long as the people who need to benefit from it get it, they can use it. They can take it to run and that can help them redefine their power because in a lot of ways I think for a lot of people, I think the kind of information we provide and the way we provide them is their only way of fighting back the myriad of problems they are confronted with by government. The last part of your question is about safety. Our mission is also to help ensure that citizens can turn the trajectory of fear against oppression, that people should no longer be afraid of people who are doing evil or who are stealing their commonwealth, people who are robbing them, people who are denying them their fundamental future, they should be the ones that should be afraid and that would mean by saying we are turning around the trajectory of fear. As for how we feel safe or unsafe, I think somebody has to do what we do and when you do it, it’s not hard to understand that they come with consequences. It’s a very dangerous job as you know. All over the world, the business of telling the truth always come with consequences and a lot of safety issues but what we’ve also not done is to put the safety pin on ourselves so we do whatever we can to stay safe. But our primary or major concern is not safety, it is the delivery of our mission.

Sahara Reporters publisher, Sowore, says Pres. Jonathan is the “chief murderer” and is “crazy”

Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, was one of the speakers at a sit-out session held on Valentine’s Day, February 14, which was put together by a group ‘Nigerians United for Democracy’.

Sowore delivered a controversial speech at the event in which he addressed the controversy over the #EkitiGate tape released by Sahara Reporters.

Here is an excerpt from his speech at the event, with the video coming at the end:

****************************

Greatest Nigerian people.

I am just here to say a few things. I want everyone to know that the battle we are fighting today is not a battle about elections. It is a battle to drive away from power those who have destroyed our country.

Today could have been another election but as you know, this election could have produced another group of people who we would have had to fight again in another 6 months time.

So we are fighting to send my uncle Goodluck Jonathan… I am from the Niger Delta too… back to the creeks where he can continue fishing. The only problem is that his going back to the Niger Delta would now make things to be very expensive in the area.

But most importantly and seriously Nigerian people, with my lawyer here, Barrister Femi Falana, we have been fighting this struggle since 1993 and this is almost twenty-something years later, we are fighting the same people in this country.

And you have heard about the controversial tape where Obanikoro, Fayose, Omisore, Adesiyan sat down and manipulated the election result in Ekiti that gave victory to Fayose. One thing you shouldn’t forget is that these are the same people that sat down and plotted the death of Bola Ige some years ago… particularly Omisore and Adesiyan.

Fayose has also killed several people in Ekiti state. Obanikoro has killed many people in Lagos state. These are bunch of murderers. And Uba also who was there from Anambra has also killed many people from Anambra state.

When I came out with that tape on Sahara Reporters, Obanikoro threatened to sue me for N1 billion. I have told the idiot that I’m in town, let him come and serve me his lawsuit, but I’ve not found that he has been able to do it.

The question is do you want to continue to have murderers running our country?

And I can guarantee you the chief murderer in this country is Jonathan. Forget about the way that crazy man look like he’s always drunk, he’s a very dangerous person because if you listen to our tape, Obanikoro kept saying: “The president sent me here. I’m not here for a tea party…”

And he told an army general… you know these people are very lucky I’m not in the army because there’s no way you will keep me in a room and start harassing me. ANd an army general is asking “do you want me to cry?| When i have a gun how can i cry, when I can level all these idiots. He told an army general, “if you make me happy tonight, the sky is your limit.”…

President Jonathan Cronies Secretly File 5 More Cases To Stop Buhari and INEC, Totaling 10

FEB 18, 2015

One of the latest cases was filed directly by the Attorney General of Plateau State and 28 others, seeking an order of the Federal High Court to prevent INEC from using the electoral register recently updated using Personal Voter Cards. The suit, titled Plateau State Government & 28 others V INEC, wants the commission to use the same voter register that was used in 2011.

The number of cases filed by President Goodluck Jonathan aiming to abort the 2015 election has increased to 10, according to SaharaReporters investigations.

Of this number, three are targeted at stopping the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting the elections.

Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, is President Jonathan’s Man Friday who heads the President’s faction of the Nigeria Governors Forum.

Other cases were filed by:

Selekaye Victor Ben, and targets the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress party, Muhammad Buhari and the Nigerian Army. Filed on February 11, the case seeks an order of the court to strip Buhari of all military entitlements and another order that would put Buhari under arrest.

“Presidential View and Endorsement Platform”, led by one Barrister Smart Iheazor, combines both Buhari and INEC. It contends that Buhari’s name on the West African School Certificate certificate recently released by his school in Katsina is different from his current name.

Sergin Onuka Ibe, accusing Buhari of filing a false deposition with INEC; he seeks an order barring INEC and the APC from fielding Buhari as candidate in the 2015 election.

An unspecified litigant, who accuses Buhari of being in possession of a false party card in which he claims to be a “civil servant”.

Barrister Friday Ojealaro, claiming that Buhari is not clear and unambiguous, and should be disqualified;

Shield Jones Ufot V Buhari, filing a criminal complaint against Buhari before a Magistrate court in Abuja

Chukwunweike Okafor, against Buhari, APC and INEC, arguing that Buhari be disqualified and APC name struck out from partaking in the general election.

“Society for Advancement And Protection of Public Rights”, which asks the court to disallow the use of card readers and nullify the ongoing continuous voter registration; and

Philip Agbese against INEC, seeking postponement of the the elections until PVCs are provided to all registered voters.

SaharaReporters has further learnt that these cases were mostly assigned to one Justice Adeniyi Ademola at the Federal High Court in Abuja. It is unclear why all the cases have been handed to one judge, but Justice Ademola is believed to be working hand in hand with President Jonathan to spring a surprise.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the same court had earlier received some of the cases but our sources said the President’s men wrote a petition against him.

At what point was Baba OBJ appointed a Navigator of the "APC Ship of Change"? I must have missed that one.
Couldn't OP have stated his case, and directed as much bile as his heart desired at his chosen figure of contempt, without reaching for the realm of phantasm?

What sort of reetarded analysis is this?
Have you told us anything that hitherto was not common knowledge about the omnipresent, self-serving ogre called Obasanjo?

From what I see; if there is any commentator who truly personifies the complete abandonment of 'cherished' principles, it is OP.
The face of generation 'X' for who no bridge is considered too far, in the quest to immolate self and achieve infamy. grin

Ah well, it is a story foretold - the 'cancer of duplicity'.

You've read the tea leaves correctly on this one Desola.

Creating a thread like this, which is designed to ridicule SaharaReporters and other discerning commentators, is an attempt to 'play both ends at the middle' that clearly crosses the Rubicon.

Have you never been abroad or read in the papers of such activities being carried out by the US or European authorities when they sense acts of espionage on their soil ?

You guys digest every news with political undertone. Nigeria is a sovereign state and any act that will undermine it will be nipped in the bud. The other day, an aljazeera reporter called the President badluck and you guys were happy for that, yet such journalists are jailed in Egypt.

Now if you feel you are smart as a Nigerian, go to US and call Obama by such name BADLUCK and come back unquestioned. Wicked souls..

Why don't you limit yourself to what you know.
Isn't it better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt? huh

Men from the Department of State Security (DSS) over the weekend invaded the home of the Niger Delta correspondent of the Thomson Reuters in the Niger Delta, Mr. Tife Owolabi, for alleged espionage.

The security operatives who carted away personal computers and electronics of the correspondent accused of working against the interest of the country.

The DSS men who invaded the house late Saturday night spent over four hours in ransacking the house even as they held him and his wife hostage. The men claimed that they were acting on orders from Abuja.

The DSS men, who did not exactly seem to know what they were really looking for left with the mobile telephones of the Reuters’ correspondent and his wife, Mrs. Jane Owolabi, with other items carted away.

He was later arrested before being released to the custody of the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ) Comrade Tare Akono.

Confirming the development, the Reuters correspondent, Owolabi stated that “the DSS men stormed my apartment on Saturday to conduct a search and claimed it was based on the order from ta Abuja. The DSS men claimed that I am unpatriotic owing to my job and relationship with the Thomas Reuters.”

“They claimed that they gathered that I sent or planning to send “negative” report to the outside world. I believe it is a deliberate clampdown on international journalists. All my working tools including Gadgets, cameras, laptops, iPad and hard drives are with them. I was asked to report back on Monday.”

Even the dog on the street knows a script is being played out.

I know that many of those currently egging Presido on will be back to shed crocodile tears, in the fullness of time sad

Bluff is no substitute for bullets ~ Wole Soyinka

“Jonathan is scared of handing over to Buhari because the president fears what his successor might do to him and others if he loses the presidential election. The service chiefs, who reportedly failed to guarantee security for the elections, ought to have been fired by the president.

“The President is following his own grand plan or his aides and associates are working a script, ‎they are playing a script. What again it looks to me is that the President is trying to play Gbagbo.

“It was even made worse when the President in the media chat on the 11th of this month claimed not to have knowledge or not to have authorised it. I get worried, very worried that if the President of Nigeria is not in charge of security, maintenance of law and order and such a decision can be taken behind him, then, there is danger.

“Assuming that is true, then the President is not ruling and then who are the shadow figures who are ruling us? It means that one day, this country would be plunged into chaos, into commotion, into confusion and the President would say, ‘I do not know about it.’ Of course, President can run but he cannot run pass God.

“I wonder what those security people are saying that they will finish Boko Haram in six weeks, what they could not do since 2009. Countries like Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Colombia have held elections in spite of ongoing wars.

“Boko Haram problem has been with us since 2009. So, to say that what we have not been able to achieve in six years, we will achieve in six weeks, let us wait and see, that would be my own thing but when people want to make excuses, they should look for excuses that are tenable.”

Why did you bring the edited version from from dailytrust?

BUHARI'S principal was my principal. From their school (Katsina Provincial School), the principal, Mr. West was sent to our school.

In those days when Nigeria was Nigerianising its military, many of the officers that you are seeing today did not even have their school certificates until long after.

When we were invited to go to Kaduna, we were given qualifying examination in English, Mathematics and General Knowledge, even before we took the school certificate exam.

Some did not even wait to take their school certificates because vacancies were already waiting for them.

It was after that qualifying exam that we were recruited into the army. By the time some had their school certificates, they had become officers.

For example, Gen. Babangida never saw his school certificate until when he was head of state. I got my school certificate long after I became an officer.

But there was officer cadet qualifying examination. About 240 of us sat for that exam in Kaduna.
