Politics / Tinubu Never Appointed Me Ondo APC Leader — Interior Minister, Tunji-ojo by TheRareGem1(f): 2:17pm On Apr 10
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has distanced himself from a purported media report, claiming he has been appointed as the political leader in Ondo state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tunji-Ojo said there was no iota of truth in the said report that he has been appointed as the leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state and urged the public to disregard the misinformation contained in the viral news article.

Special Adviser to the Minister of Interior on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, said the Minister disassociated and distanced himself from the purported appointment, as it holds no truth whatsoever

The statement read: “It has come to our attention that a news article circulating titled “Tinubu appoints Interior Minister political leader in Ondo,” claiming that the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been appointed as the political leader in Ondo state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

We would like to categorically that this report is entirely baseless and fictitious

The Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, completely disassociates and distances himself from the purported appointment, as it holds no truth whatsoever.

“There has been no meeting held with all the local government APC chairmen and leaders in Abuja, as alleged in the article.

“While the Minister is aware that the party’s governorship primary election is days away, he has advised aspirants to embrace the spirit of love and sportsmanship.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), as the father of the nation and as the leader of the party, is a democrat whose interest is always to promote unity and peace and would not be involved in any action that will undermine that.

“We urge the public to disregard the misinformation contained in the viral news article and to always rely on credible sources for accurate information,” it stated.

Politics / Federal Gov’t To Conclude Fire Service Recruitment June 15 by TheRareGem1(f): 5:23am On Mar 29
The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has announced that it will conclude the ongoing recruitment process into the Federal Fire Service (FFS) on June 15, 2024, in line with its reviewed timeline for the conduct of employment into the paramilitary Services under its purview.

The Minister of Interior and chairman of the Board, Dr Olubumi Tunji-Ojo, assured applicants awaiting the outcome of the process that the final list of successful candidates who applied for enlistment into the Federal Fire Service would be published on the said date.

Dr Tunji-Ojo spoke through the secretary of CDCFIB, Ja’afaru Ahmed, at the end of its quarterly review meeting with heads of the four paramilitary agencies under its supervision.

Ahmed, who warned applicants patronising scammers defrauding innocent Nigerians to thread with caution, further explained that shortlisted candidates who would be selected to participate in the Computer-based Test (CBT) as well as Physical Screening/Certificate Verification/Psychometric Evaluation, would be requested to visit the Board’s portal via messages to their emails and mobile phones.

Meanwhile, the Board secretary also told journalists that they considered and approved action on 118 cases against erring officers from the four Services and took appropriate disciplinary measures.

Giving a breakdown of the 118 cases considered from the four agencies, he said while the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) had 48 cases, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) had 21, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had 37 while the Federal Fire Service had 12 cases.

He said the punishment ranges from demob on psychiatric grounds to reversed ranking and outright dismissal, among other punishments.

He listed other issues addressed to include the consideration and approval of the publication of its reviewed guidelines for appointments, promotion, discipline and general purposes.

Others, according to him, were the consideration and approval for the conduct of a manpower audit in the four agencies under its purview.

He also added that the timeline for the conduct of the year 2024 promotion exercise was among the items reviewed by the Board.

Politics / Federal Gov’t Renews Commitment To Protect Borders, Degrade Terrorists by TheRareGem1(f): 10:04am On Mar 23
The Federal Government has again, pledged to tackle insecurity occasioned by irregular migration and increasing transnational activities across the international borders of Nigeria

The government also renewed its commitment to degrade bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements operating along the nation’s borders

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubumi Tunji-Ojo maee the promise while commissioning 30 operational vehicles to boost border surveillance and control at the headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo, who stated that effective patrol and increasing number of security personnel at the nation’s borders will not only check the proliferation of light weapons and contrabands, added that their presence would also cripple the activities of bandits, insurgents and kidnappers

The Minister said that President Bola Tinubu believes that a porous border would be detrimental to the peace and security of the country, hence, his commitment to providing the right leadership, equipment, welfare and all that is needed to assist the Nigeria Immigration Service in carrying out its mandate diligently and effectively.

He said, “The Nigeria Immigration Service is important to the national security architecture of the country. It is first in a line of support and defence for the national security agenda, particularly from the perspective of making our borders safe and secure.”

While observing that much has been committed to training Immigration officers, the Minister asked them to justify the same, by being professional in all their doings to protect the country from influx and infiltration by irregular migrants while also calling for support for the military in the region.

The President is happy about your proposal on surveillance and security of our borders. I am also happy because protecting borders and making sure Nigerians can sleep with their eyes closed is a priority of the present administration

He added that, “Once our borders are protected, internal threats can easily be dealt with, so the time for rhetoric is over. It is time for action. The security and protection of our borders is now. The current insurgency and other security challenges are a wake-up call, and it will soon be over.

Mr President will never leave the NIS stranded. In terms of support, equipment, welfare, and other facilities that will make your jobs easier, Mr President will be there for you. Therefore, you must do your part and do it diligently and effectively.

“I am not pleading with you to do your part, but I trust you will do it. The NIS is 61 years old, Mr President will not come to do your jobs for you, I will not go to the airports or the borders to do your jobs for you. But I trust you will do your part to make the nation proud,” Tunji-Ojo asserted.

In her remarks, the Comptroller-general of NIS, Mrs Kemi Nandap, described the inauguration of the operational vehicles as “a tangible move to enhance the security and integrity of the nation’s borders in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.”

The NIS boss said she was very aware of the imperative role that effective border surveillance and patrol play in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its citizens, preserving its economic prosperity as well as facilitating regular, safe, and orderly migration
She emphasized that the 30 new vehicles represented a concrete investment in the capacity of the Service, saying they would provide officers with the tools needed to carry out their duties

“With enhanced mobility, our border patrol teams will be better equipped to detect and deter illegal activities, including smuggling of migrants, trafficking in persons, and other transnational crimes,” the NIS boss said.

She warned the officers against compromise in the course of their duty, reiterating that the service will not tolerate nonchalant attitude and arbitrary abuse of their duty call.

Politics / Osinbajo Felicitates with Daddy GO As He Clocks 82 by TheRareGem1(f): 9:54am On Mar 02
It was Mummy G.O. who once said to us, ‘See how God uses your father as a smokescreen to do the miracles He wants to do.’
This realization that ‘apart from Him, you can do nothing,’ and that ‘no one can receive anything that is not given to him by God’ probably explains why a man so spiritually and intellectually gifted, so revered, and so respected by the high and low alike would still be so genuinely humble, self-effacing, and unfailingly respectful even of his subordinates.

His impeccable integrity, his measured speech and actions at all times, his life of many challenges and wars, his courage, his unshaken faith, his deep love for God, through phenomenal achievement and numbing personal tragedy, are all together the most persuasive evangelical message to all, even those of other faiths, of the grace and mercy of God in the life of the saved.

For us, we are extremely proud that this man of extraordinary faith, courage, and humility is one we can call our Daddy.

Daddy, Happy 82nd birthday. As your days, so shall your strength, wisdom, and favor with God in Jesus’ name. Amen @pastoreaadeboyeofficial

The last slide just sums up Daddy and a photo that means the world to me, this was at my Mum’s 90th Birthday Church Service last year, As I helped my Mum get up after kneeling on one side after prayers, Daddy grabbed her hands on the second side to help her up as well.

Today, I took a tour of ongoing projects, first the E-Gates facility currently being installed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the E-border data and control centre at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters.

Upon completion across all the five (5) International Airports in the country, the E-gates will reduce human contact and give Nigerians seamless entrance into the country while the E-border system will enhance national security.

#RenewedHope is assured under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR).

Politics / FG Reduces Check-In Time For Travellers, Installs 30 Seconds Clearance Gate by TheRareGem1(f): 7:27pm On Feb 19
As part of measures to reduce check-in time for international travellers, the federal government has installed 30-seconds biometric clearance gates for the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS at all international airports across the country

According to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who undertook a tour of the biometric equipment installed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the Command and Control Centre at the NIS Headquarters on Monday, the facilities would ensure effective and efficient management of international passengers in the country

He said the biometric gates can screen and clear a passenger within 30 seconds without any interface or contact with Immigration personnel.

Tunji-Ojo added that the facilities would be ready in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, Abuja and Enugu by March. According to him, Lagos would have 17 gates, Abuja 10, Port Harcourt and Kano 5 each and Enugu 4.

He said the Advanced Passenger Information System APIS as well as the Command and Control Centre facilities had been integrated not just for seamless entry and exit for passengers, but to add another layer to the national security architecture.

The Minister who was conducted around the facilities by the Comptroller of Immigration in Charge of the Abuja International Airport, Mohammed Adamu, said whatever is happening within the airports’ domains would be seen in real-time at the Command and Control Centre to enable security agencies to monitor persons of interest entering the country

Speaking after the inspection, the Minister said; “I am impressed by the level and pace of works I have seen here today. The facilities are about 70 percent ready. This means our border control management system is on track. It also means that the Nigeria Immigration Service is ready to contribute its quota to the National Security Architecture.

The efficiency of the services provided by the NIS determines whatever we see in our security outlook as a nation. All these are being done in line with global best practices and standards and in consonance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to provide quality services to Nigerians.

“We have decided that the more the gates at the airports, the easier it would be for passengers to be cleared. And looking at the ones that have been tested, it takes about 30 seconds for a passenger to clear. So I look at the solutions and the hardware, and I think they are a top-notch.

In their book, POWER, AMBITION, GLORY, Steve Forbes, Chairman, CEO, and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media, and classics professor, John Prevas, provided intriguing comparisons between six great leaders of the ancient world and contemporary business leaders, setting out basic factors which led to greatness and the lessons you can learn.

Discussing how structures drive vision, Forbes and Prevas insist that it is not just enough for a leader to have vision but he must put in place structures to effect it. They compared Cyrus the Great and Jack Welch and John Chambers and how their modern businesses were built.

No matter what anyone says about the present administration, Tunji-Ojo stands out as one minister who got to office and hit the ground running. In a nation where obtaining something as basic as an international passport had become nightmarish, with the attendant deliberate scam and hardship, it looked something like magic when the interior minister ordered that within a specific timeline, he wanted all backlog of passports being processed to be done.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reiterated the ministry’s determination to begin the full implementation of the new passport policy for the benefit of Nigerians at home and abroad.

Tunji-Ojo disclosed this at the 2024 Diaspora Quarterly Virtual-lecture series titled: New Passport Policy/Processes for Nigerians in Diaspora” organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) on Tuesday in Abuja.

The minister said the ministry was ready to automate passport enrollment via streamlined and efficient processes, adding that the automated passport application process for those in the diaspora is scheduled to begin on March 8, 2024

This, according to him, will begin at four missions, namely: Italy in Europe, Canada in the Americas, South Africa in Africa, and Malaysia in Asia.

“Following a month of refining any glitches, we aim to deploy globally by April 8, 2024,” he added.

“The ministry has taken bold steps toward the launch of a new passport policy for Nigerians at home and abroad.

“This is to decongest existing centres by establishing dedicated passport processing and collection centres in the diaspora and fast-tracking service operations both domestically and internationally, and reducing processing delays in Europe through the enhanced e-passport.

“A dedicated team from the ministry has been deployed to the UK to oversee the implementation of the E8-Mandate, emphasising our commitment to delivering tangible results.

“We are rolling out enhanced e-passport facilities at selected Nigerian embassies in Europe, thereby positioning Nigeria as a leader in technological innovation within the African continent.

“This enhanced e-passport, compliant with all International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards, ensures international recognition and security

“It offers Nigerians in the diaspora greater convenience with online application and payment platforms, reduced processing times, and enhanced security features, allowing for travel with peace of mind.”

He attributed success recorded in the efforts to passport issues under the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu to be in terms of clearance of over 200,000 passport backlogs within three weeks and addressing national crisis and reinstating pride in our identity system.

“Furthermore, we’ve spearheaded the deployment of e-Gates at international airports, a significant stride towards streamlining entry and exit processes for Nigerians.

“As we speak, the e-Gates have been successfully installed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with an additional 16 E-Gates anticipated for delivery and installation in Lagos next week.

In line with our March deadline, we are diligently working towards establishing a modern control center across all our international airports, including Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu.”

The Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the minister for the success so far recorded withun a very short period particularly in the area of passport regime.

“One of the biggest issues is related to the issue of passport. All the time we’ve been bombarded with questions on the issue of passports, and the minister came on board and said the process would be fully-digital.

“So, this is a platform to have the Minister of Interior and Mrs Caroline Adepoju, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service to explain what the process means,” she said.

The guest speaker, Mrs Adepoju said the e-passport regime policy would make application processes modern, ensure effectiveness, and efficiency, as well as improve NIS service delivery.

This, according to her, is to support the federal government’s policy on single identification depository with the National Identity Management Commission and the prevention of identity theft in relation to travel documents.

“The total number of passports issued in 2021 was 1,330,506, in 2022 the total was 1,597,729, which indicates an increase of of 57 per cent, whereas in 2023 the total number of passports issued was 2,141,300, this is a 100 per cent increase.

“These data are pointers to the need for this reform, to reduce pressure on our overstretched facilities, manpower and applicants who wait in endless queues in the cold and the heat,” Adepoju said.

Politics / Insecurity: It’s Time For State Police – Osinbajo’s Ex-spokesman Tells Tinubu by TheRareGem1(f): 6:57am On Feb 04
Laolu Akande, a former spokesman to ex-Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has urged President Bola Tinubu, state governors, and National Assembly members to establish state police in the face of the prevailing insecurity in the country.

Akande said the current centralized security structure was inadequate to resolve the insecurity situation in the country.

Speaking on Channels TV’s “Inside Sources,” on Friday, Akande said: “The time has come to give that authority and power.

Now, this has to be done properly and that is why we are calling for a proper constitutional amendment that will define how this will not be abused.

“It is also important for all the stakeholders to come together and ensure proper rules of engagement. The time for state police is now. We are calling on the President.

“We are calling on the governors, the members of the National Assembly and the State Assemblies to set the ball rolling and we are also calling on the traditional rulers, religious leaders and all leaders of thought to come behind this idea of state police.”
