AgricultureRe: Plantain Merchandising From Ondo To Lagos... Help Wanted by TheUnbeatable(m): 8:00am On Oct 22, 2015
Hmnn, there is no free lunch even in free town. It doesn't work this way sir/madam. Every wise man paid for every knowledge he got. There is a guy that just started what you want to do now and here on nairaland/agriculture. Make him your friend, call him, send him recharge card, try to talk with him in Mr bigs or tantalizers or any meeting point he chooses with you paying all the bills though. Show him respect and ask your questions politely. If he is helpful enough, he will tell you some not everything at a time. Go to the farm and ask people even in the market place. Don't neglect the road side plantain roasters. Bible says wisdom crieth in the public not on nairaland threads. Yes, you will get information and people here sha o.

God bless you.

Agric is sweet and I am enjoying it. It pays my bills.

In agric, you need to know a little of everything and everything of a little.

Do you understand?

It is the most lucrative, most dangerous and most dignifying of all professions.

You have to fear the person that feed you because your life and that of your family is at his mercy.

Have you thought of that?

God bless Nigerian Agripreneurs.

Sincerely!

one of my big brothers in agribusiness @ world1 said, you dont rely on the old existing markets for your products as a new generation farmer, you create one.

why sell your pigs for N300 live weight when you can simply slaughter and add a little value to it and sell at N500 - N1,200 naira per same kg.

goat sells for N1900 naira per kg dressed weight, broilers, snails, rabbit, cow and many more.

it was on this premise that i set my mini, affordable and neat slaughter yard for my company and to offer services where needed.

we use LPG Gas/ Biogas defeathering/hair removal and other improvised/ state of the art simple meat processing tools.

we do home/ office delivery

we produce blood meal, fish meal and use intestine waste and animal waste to feed our animals and biodigester for the production of biogass to be re-used on our farm or slaughter chamber.
we just moved to our new site near Akure south local government council to further satisfy our teaming customers.

you can do same or more depending on your pocket size.

there is more to agribusiness than what meats the eye.

we do neat, stoneless, smokeless, packaged fish and meat smoking and grilling.
babeque services
farm fresh eggs, organically grown leafy vegetables,
fresh/ frozen pork, beef, goat meat, sheep meat, dog meat, rabbit meat, grasscutter meat, duck meat, quails meat, geese meat
point and dress rabbit and grasscutter services
veterinary vaccines, drugs, supplements and services
as well as feed formulation one on one training.

we sell and supply cat fish, live and dressed farm animals and we go the extra mile to whaaoooh you.

i will be posting pictures little by little to greese the thread.

you get value for every kobo you invest through your mouth.

eat healthy and keep the doctors on a lovely distant relationship.

you can contact us here or through:

email: bsaidealfarm@gmail.com
call/ sms: +2348067341873
call/ whatssapp: +2347011027713

wireless consultancy is free to a large extent
farm visit is paid
training is paid
farm/slaughter house set up is paid.

for those that like to visit or sight see, you will need to call me 24 hours before coming because i travel alot and you know we need to control traffic too $$just because of because$$ ( i hope you understand that Nigerian mindset)

God bless your hustles,

AgricultureRe: How Can I Set Up A Farm With 25k by TheUnbeatable(m): 5:16pm On Oct 08, 2015
@ Op:

25k is small but enough for you to start.

Go and buy melange or jumbo catfish, smoke dry it and look for people making chinchin, use their sealing machine to seal the dry fish inside transparent nylon. This will cost N700 naira/ kg on the maximum. You sell in government offices and banks for 1,000 per pack. You can try it with 15k out of your money. Endevour to put your phone number and one out of 10 people that buy from you will call for more.

God bless your hustle.

Pls what will be the best type of irrigation to irrigate a 200plots of land, considering cost. Water source will be borehole. The land will be use for plantain n vegetables. Waiting for ur reply
The best irrigation is drip irrigation system where the plants get water droplets directly to their roots. The major constraints is money. It's expensive for a normal Nigerian farmer. These materials are imported and the exchange rate greatly affects it.

Many Nigerian famers have been calling me and other people in the irrigation sector of a probable way to dance around this cost and still have a good or similar output. That was when I introduced them to buying drip tapes alone and I use pvc and other plumbing materials to run it conveniently. Even the drip tapes are expensive #thouthful#. Just imagine some farmers had to pay school fees last month and the crops are failing. I was overwhelmed by the trauma caused by the unpredictable weather. Just imagine if they got their money from bank of agriculture or other banks that are farmer friendly.

I advise people to try set up the mixed irrigation type I earlier talked about. They will recoup their money within 2 years.

God bless
AgricultureRe: Meet - Irrigation Technician For Your Turf, Garden And Farm Solution by TheUnbeatable(op): 1:43am On Oct 04, 2015
Nigerian weather is unpredictable because of green house effect.

This may either make or mare your enterprise.

The wise think of how to manage the situation and the cool hearted only complain and talk about it.

Irrigation is the way to go now.

Yes, most of it is completely out of the reach of the common naija farmer but there are ways around it now.

Wise farmers now buy inevitable parts of the irrigation and use local available materials to complement and run the irrigation effectively.

I spoke with a couple of my colleagues that import and sell irrigation materials and we have reached a conclusion on how to help intending irrigation lovers with shalow pockets.

N100,000 can set up a mini sprinkler/drip irrigation on a 1 plot of land and. This include:

One role of 8mm, 1000m drip tape/ 36 peg sprinklers

1 5.5hp 3" hose gasolene water pump

Some local connecting pvc pipes and locally available connector substitutes.

Excluding:

Water source: well, borehole, stream, lake, brook...

Service charge.

The customer can buy the materials by themselves incase of doubt, fear or mistrust.

I am the irrigation technician that makes everything work and it's funny I lost my pictures to my hard disk crash some months back. # that's bad for business now# #laughs#

I can bring you back to all year round crop production if you are painstaking enough to set up your irrigation now.

While others groan, grin or are grounded, you grow and gather your harvest and ganner your gains.

Think about it.

God bless your hustle.

Sincerely,

Exactly. That is the minimum requirement. I tried to google it but no meaningful thing came out of it. The truth is that I don't know what the job description is like, i.e what is required of a Technical Officer in a large farm establishment.
I understand you now.

A technical officer can also be called a production manager, a supervisor, operations manager or someone that backs up every plan with logistics. Someone that knows what is needed, where it is needed, how to get it at the cheapest price, knows the original, knows how to use it and can teach people on the job.

A technical officer is an expert at a given field with vast experience even in others.

That is my interpretation.

I stand to be corrected anyday.

Hi, unbeatable.

I just followed your thread and I somehow feel you're a reliable man.

I'm from Warri in Delta State. I want to venture into purchasing, transportation and sales of plantains.

I need an expert knowledge on it. Do you think it's viable?
Hmnn, I hear you o. How can you feel a reliable man? For this naija?

Anyway, you are on point. As much as I am a businessman, I will always tell you the truth anytime but with enough cushion to make you abosrb the pains with good faith.

Location is not a problem since the world is now a global village.

You want to venture into purchasing, transport and sales of plantains. My questions now:

Purchase from where?
Transport to where?
Sale where?
Sale when?
Sale how?

I am not trying to complicate issues for you o but I am trying to see through your mind whether you have a clear cut vison/dream because that is what will keep you moving even in bad times that often come unannounced.

Feel free to answer me here so that others may learn and atleast this is nairaland, you will dodge my service charge #laughs#.

Hmmn, as much as I understand you, I must tell you the truth. A consultant is someone that has paid the price and known a lot of things ahead of you. You will do yourself a favor by consulting anyone nearest to you. Whether you like it or not that money you don't want to pay directly, you will loose indirectly. I was someone like you before and I had to change my orientation. Some people have been doing what you want to do before you. Be humble and kind enough to pay whatever is requested and enjoy the ease and speed that comes with the ride.

Irrespective of what I know, if I want to do tomatoes, I will have to call jethro2 and ask for guidance and if she demand a fee, the best I can do is plead for a slash if I don't have the amount or plead for instantental payment. And that's if she will agree. With her guidance, I will scale the walls that fell many and she will market for me where my strength and connection fails.

This the reality of consultants. They are just like medical doctors. Skip them? Suffer for it.

@ Jetro # winks# Good Job sis. I am encouraged whenever I come across your work. God bless your hustle.
