Blame climate change. Or pestilence. Or China's Westernizing taste in candy. Blame, perhaps, Ebola. Regardless, the world is running out of chocolate. In 2013, the world consumed about 70,000 metric tons more cocoa than it produced. And now, Mars, Inc. and Barry Callebaut—two of the world's biggest manufacturers of chocolate goods—are warning that by 2020, that consumption-over-production number could increase to 1 million metric tons (a fourteen-fold bump). "Chocolate deficits, whereby farmers produce less cocoa than the world eats, are becoming the norm," The Washington Post reported. We are in the midst of what may be "the longest streak of consecutive chocolate deficits in more than 50 years" and analysts say it's only going to get worse. http://m.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/11/Chocolate-shortage-2020-mars-barry-callebaut/382855/ |

Good day, Our expanding farm is opening up our cocoa plantain in weeks time. We grow biologically and organically, which means our operations are slow and it depends on the frequency of money inflow. It is still thesame person, thesame company and thesame location, Akure, Nigeria. I will be updating this thread with recent activities from nursery to plantation establishment and maintenance till harvesting as time and chance permits. The cocoa is the improved amazon variety from cocoa research institute of nigeria (CRIN). I will be picking the pods tomorrow from their Ondo state sub station near Akure here. For enquiries, you can Call: 08067341873 Call/ whatsapp : 07011027713. Email: bsaidealfarm@gmail.com. You will be served beyond your imagination. God bless your hustle. Sincerely, |

gmcln:Where is your farm location? Delivery details also determine price (I mean will I come for the pigs or your farm vehicle delivers the pigs to our slaughter yard in akure)? These and some other factors determine the pricing. As much as I am a businessman, I have a "human face" (considerate). God bless your hustle. Sincerely, |
JohnNgene:What you just said is my idea of free range. I don't mean the conventional free range that you buy the goats and allow them roam carelessly into the arms of danger. God bless your hustle. |
If you are in akure, we buy 1kg for N400 live weight. God bless your hustle. Sincerely, |
@ Op: I will suggest you call madam @jethro2 for training. That is her job and she is good at it. I have never meet her before but I know her worth. She dint pay me for the advert though. Sincerely, |
@Op: I empathise with you. Though, I can't access your farm now, but I suspect too much water/ humidity. This also happens to cocoa and cassava. I stand to be corrected though. |
@bitos: Kindly, reach me with another number. The one you called me with "does not exist" sayeth the network. Or send me a mail: bsaidealfarm@gmail.com Thank you. |
@bitos: Tried sending you email but not successful. Network failure I think. I set-up farms both crop and livestock. I will give you a call if the email is still failing. God bless your hustle. Sincerely, |

@ Op: Greetings. It's good you want to invest in agriculture. There is a man here on nairaland/agriculture by the name " farmafric". He is on akowonjo/sasa area on your way to lekki. Try to contact him. Be reasonable. He can be your messiah if you treat him well. I don't know him nor have I seen him before but I know he is good. "They say" "deep calleth unto deep". That's why I recommend him. I hope you understand? God bless your hustle. Sincerely, |
You will be glad you joined us 07011027713 |
@Op: My sister, Let me be sincere with you. Your chance of getting someone experienced that will be willing to live and work for you irrespective of your pay will be slim but possible and in most cases will be looking for ways to defraud you. I will advise, get a normal farm hand/ labour that will care for them daily( feeding and sanitation). Get a consultant that will visit once a week or twice a month to monitor both the laborer and the farm. He will be responsible for the labourer's training and work schedule. He will be responsible for all health care and things will work well for you. I would have love to help but I don't know your disposition to my post but that is what smart investors do now and even right from akure here, I know a number of farms/ would be farms under my watch even right there in Epe and other areas of nigeria. This is the new phase of agriculture and it will help you. God bless your hustle. Sincerely, |
One plot is small. When raising goats we talk of acres or hectares of pasture. God bless your hustle. |
In agribusiness, before you venture as an investor, you study the venture well, do we have people doing it? Are they making profit? Or struggling? What is their per unit production cost? Is their methodology sustainable? What of breakeven analysis? What of technicalities? West African dwarf goat has a reputation for ruggedness and milk yield across the globe and that is why it's demand is insatiable. As much as people rear goats in pens abroad, can we afford the cost? Do we have the feeding materials and premix they use? Statistics show that goat production is largely in the hands of small, marginal farmers and agricultural landless labourers even in India and some other countries. A goat farmer must be ready to identify sick animals, visit goat shed daily and render quick treatment and preventive measures. He/she must be ready for routine vaccination e.g Give multi component at February, polyvalent at June, oil adjuvent at July, pox vaccine at September, multi component clostridia at December. So sayeth the "books". This means you keep the vet as close as possible. I don't see anyone engaging in all these and more if he/she is not in it for "goat milk" which I know is very expensive. You have to battle pneumonia, pseudo- rinderpest, foot and mouth disease, cpd,, goat pox, blue tongue, anthrax, tetanus... I can keep naming diseases and other challenges but how many do you see in a ranging goat? That is why I advise pasture or range goat farming. The nature will help you escape majority of all these obstacles. My mind is burning as I am writing this piece but I can't burst it open here because I don't like debating but it pains me when someone with little or no "field knowledge" utter "good talks" let me put it that way. I don't mean to be rude or confrontational to anyone but I just want to tell the Op to be careful of "copy copy" there are many things that works abroad and may not work here in nigeria because of many Nigerian factors. There are even very many vet drugs we don't see to buy, may be in my place here in akure but I have made enquiries sometime back when I wanted to buy "AI KIT" and the vet called, ibadan, lagos, kaduna, and we could not get. Exchange rate discourages import and supermarkets keep importing goat meat and the likes at cheap price. Tell me how we can survive in same market producing goat meat intensively? God bless Nigeria, God bless Nairaland, God bless the reader. Sincerely, |
@ maple: I agree with you. I don't mind to learn more at your feet, Boss. Nothing is impossible. |
@ Op: I know your location. Your idea is good but I don't see sustainability in it. Goat pen? Hmnn, can west African dwarf goat be efficient under pen management? Whoever did your feasibility or business plan for you should be doubted. It's not in my nature to attack or condemn people but from experience, I think the plan must be revisited. God bless your hustle. One love |
@ Op: Call/ whatsapp me on: 07011027713. I can teach you some short- cuts. God bless your hustle. One love |
