PoliticsSimon Ekpa Is A Content Creator, We Can’t Take Him Serious – Ohanaeze Ndigbo by Thissystem(op): 7:28am On Dec 01, 2024
The leadership for Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said that it cannot take Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa serious.

Damian Okeke-Ogene, the vice president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said Ekpa has already described himself as a content creator and can’t be taken seriously.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, November 30, Okeke-Ogene , the Igbo socio-culinary group views Wkpa as a Nollywood individual.

“Simon Ekpa says he is a content creator, so how can we take him seriously? He should go to Nollywood and deceive people.

“We look at Simon Ekpa as a Nollywood star, as he claims, and it is only in Nollywood that we see content creators,” he said.

Okeke-Ogene’s statement on Ekpa follow a the former’s arrest and detention by the Police in Finland.

Finnish police said Ekpa was arrested and will be charged to court in 2025 for allegedly inciting violence and engaging in acts of terrorism using his social media channels.

PoliticsSimon Ekpa To Remain In Prison As Finnish Authorities Set Trial For May 2025 by Thissystem(op): 6:52am On Nov 28, 2024
Finnish authorities have announced that Simon Ekpa, a popular pro-Biafran agitator, will remain in prison as his trial is set to commence in May 2025.

Ekpa, who was arrested in Finland for alleged terrorism-related activities, has been a thorn in the flesh of the Nigerian government, championing a controversial call for an independent Biafran state.

According to Mikko Laaksonen, a Senior Detective Superintendent at Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation, the district court has set May 2025 as the deadline for prosecutors to present possible charges against Ekpa.

Laaksonen confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and no further details can be disclosed at this point.

“Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details can be disclosed.

“The date for bringing up possible charges by the prosecution was set by the district court to May 2025,” he said.

He added, “In a basic situation regarding the remand, the next possible hearing can be held no earlier than two weeks from the previous hearing, should the parties in question seek for the matter to be re-evaluated by the district court,” Laaksonen explained.

Finnish authorities also confirmed that cross-border cooperation is integral to the investigation. However, officials have refrained from providing further information about the nature or extent of the international collaboration.

The Finnish government had announced the arrest of Ekpa alongside four others on suspicion of terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing. Finnish police confirmed that Ekpa allegedly used social media to promote violence in the South-East region, targeting civilians and authorities.

He is accused of inciting violence and issuing sit-at-home orders to Igbos and other South-East residents.

The economy is really bad right now. Massive economic collapse 🥲 People are dying of hunger.
PoliticsReforms Are Paying Off - President Tinubu, Full Of Smiles, Tells IMF Chief by Thissystem(op): 7:45am On Nov 26, 2024
President Bola Tinubu has assured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief, Kristalina Georgieva, that his administration’s economic reforms are paying off, despite the initial hardship faced by Nigerians.

Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu has implemented reforms, including the removal of petroleum subsidy and the floating of the naira, which has led to increased inflation and hardship for many.

However, during a meeting with Georgieva on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the poor and vulnerable. He acknowledged the reforms’ impact on Nigerians’ purchasing power but pledged to continue providing social safety nets to mitigate the unintended consequences.

“We have started seeing positive results from our reforms, and the Nigerian people now understand the need for them, but we have to reduce the hardship that has resulted from the implementation,” Tinubu was quoted in a statement by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

He added, “We have too many children out of school, and we know that education is a way out of hunger and poverty. That is why we are designing ways and incentives to keep these children in school, and we need your support for these kids who want to stay in school.”

“We are engaging stakeholders and sensitising Nigerians to expand the economy’s tax base for inclusive developmental growth. We are doing this without necessarily increasing the taxes on our people who have already given a lot. We will require your support on this.”

The President congratulated Georgieva on her re-election and appreciated her support in implementing the reforms.

In response, Georgieva commended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms and their positive indicators. She expressed her desire to visit Nigeria and assured the President of further support in diversifying the Nigerian economy.

Georgieva praised the social investment programs as a way to cushion the effects on the most vulnerable and promised assistance from the IMF.

PoliticsTinubu’s Policies Are Causing More Hardship In The North – Arewa Forum Cries Out by Thissystem(op): 8:15am On Nov 21, 2024
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has blamed the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu for the worsening conditions in northern Nigeria.

The ACF called on President Tinubu to take immediate action to address the pressing issues of insecurity, education, and economic development in the region.

The pan-northern socio-political organisation stated this in a communique released to journalists at the end of its National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna, on Wednesday, November 20.

The communique, signed by ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof Tukur Muhammad-Baba, expressed dissatisfaction with the current economic policies, which the forum claimed have amplified hardship in the country.

“Despite the dire economic conditions in Arewa, the policies of the current Federal Government have continued to worsen the situation, showing little sensitivity to the precarious existential challenges faced by the Arewa people.

“Succinctly stated, economic reforms, while indeed desirable, should not impoverish the same people they are meant to serve; the people may not be alive to reap the putative benefits.

“In view of the above, the meeting resolved as follows: calls on the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review, reassess, reevaluate and re-order the direction of its economic policies with a view to giving it the needed human face.

“Strongly calls on the governors of the northern states to adopt a strong, coordinated approach to policy planning and implementation, as these relate to security, education, skills acquisition, agricultural production, health services, etc.

“Calls on the Federal Government to be receptive to criticisms, suggestions, etc., not only in line with the principles of democracy but also because they improve, not retard the policy process for the ultimate benefit of the people.

“Calls on the northern elite, in all spheres of life, to take it upon themselves to counter negative narratives about the North and also imbibe the spirit of community service, individually and collectively. The interests of the North will be best served by northerners,” the ACF said.

PoliticsNew Minister Indicts President Tinubu, Says His Appointment Is Purely Political by Thissystem(op): 7:07pm On Nov 10, 2024
The newly appointed minister of state for housing and urban development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has pledged to prioritize the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s 2027 victory in Kano.

In 2023, the Nigerian government put the country’s housing deficit statistics at 28 million units with an estimated funding need of N21 trillion.

Ata, however, says his interest is the politics of his home state of Kano.

“My appointment was mainly for political reasons, APC has lost Kano state and now it will take Kano state. The main problem is the Kano Central and I am from there.

“Even as a minister I will continue to sit in this Ward, we are going to work very hard to see that APC gains control of Kano State by 2027.

“My mission like I said is purely political, even that I am posted to the ministry of housing and urban development, I will do my work but I will be coming to Kano state every week so as to work towards gaining control of the state,” he told journalists.

PoliticsRe: APC Are Political Vampires, Terminally Ill Patients, Lifespan Expires 2027 - PDP by Thissystem(op): 7:33am On Nov 09, 2024
Lol, if only PDP is better. They are all the same 🤔

PoliticsAPC Are Political Vampires, Terminally Ill Patients, Lifespan Expires 2027 - PDP by Thissystem(op): 7:33am On Nov 09, 2024
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has labelled the All Progressives Congress (APC), a group of “political vampires” that survives by “sucking the blood” of ordinary citizens while causing great suffering across Nigeria.

The PDP argues that the APC is a coalition of those who seek to grab power and steal the country’s wealth, leaving millions of Nigerians to struggle with severe hardships.

The main opposition party made the remarks in a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, during a press conference in Abuja on Monday.

The party also condemned the recent attacks by the APC on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who has been outspoken about the difficulties facing Nigerians under the APC government. The PDP described these attacks as “reckless, insensitive, and an arrogant display of failure.”

Ologunagba stated, “The APC’s attack on Governor Makinde confirms that they are jittery as their days are numbered. Nigerians have seen through the APC’s lies, manipulations, and suppressive policies that demonstrate incompetence in governance.” He emphasized that Governor Makinde is a credible and effective leader, pointing to his various development projects that benefit the people of Oyo State.

He stated that Makinde’s leadership, along with that of other PDP governors, shows a commitment to development and democracy, which resists the APC’s attempts to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

Furthermore, Ologunagba expressed his outrage at the APC’s claim that Nigeria is “on the cusp of prosperity” while the country faces serious issues like insecurity, economic hardship, and poor infrastructure.

He blamed these problems on what he termed the APC’s “anti-people policies.” He added, “It’s absurd for the APC to think it can deceive Nigerians with false claims of performance when it has failed on all fronts, undoing the progress made during the PDP’s 16 years in power.”

Ologunagba also highlighted the economic decline under the APC. He said that the Naira, which was valued at N168 to the Dollar when the PDP was in power, has now dropped to almost N2,000 per Dollar. He pointed out that petrol prices have skyrocketed from N87 per litre to over N1,500, while the price of a bag of rice has increased from N8,000 to over N100,000. He noted that other essential food items, such as beans and garri, have also seen dramatic price hikes.

Ologunagba, therefore, accused APC leaders of “looting the nation’s treasury to fund their lavish lifestyles” while ordinary Nigerians face unprecedented difficulties. He suggested that the personal attacks and manipulation of data by the APC reflect a sense of desperation as the 2027 elections draw near.

“The APC should acknowledge its failures and prepare to exit in February 2027. The PDP, backed by Nigerians, will end the APC’s political journey, putting this contraption where it belongs—in political oblivion,” the PDP added.

Recall that during the commissioning of the Late Olusoji Adagunodo, the zonal secretariat of the PDP in Ibadan on Saturday, Makinde stated that the 2027 election would be a contest between the APC and Nigerians, adding that only he could set the agenda for his political career.

However, Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC described Makinde’s comments as “reckless” and “unbecoming” of a leader. Morka added that his party, the PDP is fading into irrelevance.

Morka added, “Makinde cannot even represent the future electoral choices of the people of Oyo, let alone speak for Nigerians. Makinde and his partisan allies are simply alarmed that the transformative potential of Tinubu’s economic policies could consign their 2027 ambitions and calculations to the dustbin of political irrelevance.”

PoliticsI'll Never Support Peter Obi Again For This Insult – LP Member, Doyin Okupe Vows by Thissystem(op): 7:48am On Nov 08, 2024
Doyin Okupe, the controversial former Director-General of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, has again disclosed non-support for Peter Obi, LP’s former candidate.

Okupe made this. Monday declaration on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” in response to Obi’s recent comments on the economic situation in Nigeria.

Obi had stated, “Let us talk about what is happening today. Rice is about N100,000. We are not even sure where we are going to be. ‘It’s our turn’, ‘he is a Yoruba man’ — ask the people in Ogun, here is there any place you people buy bread cheaper?”

This statement generated mixed reactions on social media, with some supporting Obi and others criticizing him.

Okupe however joined the critics, describing Obi’s remark as an “insult” to people in the South-West.

He emphasized that Obi’s statement publicly belittled the South-West, despite receiving support from prominent Yoruba leaders during his presidential bid.

“When Obi made that statement, it insulted us. I am a Yoruba man; I left everything and followed Obi,” Okupe said.

“For the first time, Obasanjo left his circle of influence and deviated to support Obi…

“I do not regret supporting Peter Obi. But now I cannot do it again.”

Okupe attributed his initial support to the agreement that a southern president should emerge, specifically from the south-east.

However, he feels betrayed by Obi’s public criticism of the South-West.

“If all these eminent Yoruba people supported you, why now bring us down publicly? It is wrong,” Okupe concluded.

This development comes amidst Okupe’s reported resignation from the Labour Party due to ideological differences.

This is not good. The government needs to look into this as a matter of urgency, especially now that Naira has lost much value. Lecturers/professors deserve a very good pay
Education“Nigerian Professors Are The World’s Lowest Paid” – ASUU President Laments by Thissystem(op): 6:46pm On Nov 03, 2024
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has revealed that Nigerian university lecturers and professors are the lowest-paid in the world.

The president of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, made the revelations in an exclusive interview.

He said since 2009, salaries of Nigerian lecturers have remained the same apart from the additional N40,000 consequential adjustment based on the previous minimum wage.

“I don’t know of any country in Africa, be it South, North, Central and even West, where university lecturers earn as low as Nigerian counterparts.

“No lecturer in some of those African countries earns less than $2,000 (about N3.3 million) per month and those in professorship cadre earn up to $10,000 (N16.5 million) per month.

“But here in Nigeria, a professor is earning $300 (N495,000) per month which is less than half a million naira.

“Look at the wide gap and that is why you can’t see any foreign lecturers in Nigerian universities because our universities are not attractive to them.

We’re the ones rushing to their countries and that is part of why our universities are ranked very low on global scale.

“So, we are the lowest paid lecturers as far as I know, in the whole world and those in government do not see this narrative as an issue that needs to be addressed.

“And the reason is simply because their children and family members are not in Nigeria. They don’t attend Nigerian public schools. That is the situation we find ourselves in,” Osodeke told Nigerian Tribune.

He revealed that his salary is just N420,000 (about $255) per month despite being a professor for 15 years.

He pointed out that even his seniors who have been professors for up to 20 years earn the same amount as him.

It is only the vice chancellors for example, by virtue of their offices, who earn something higher only when they are in that office as their salaries will come back to the normal amount after leaving.

“Whereas a special assistant to the Speaker of the House, for example, earns more than N1 million ($606) per month, which is more than double of the salaries of the highest-paid professor in the country.

“After all, a senator confessed recently to be earning up to N14 million per month in this same country where the government is claiming there is no money and that the N14 million was not even enough for him.

“N14 million is about three years’ salaries of a highest paid professor,” Osodeke further lamented.

In a dramatic escalation of tensions between Russia and the US-based tech giant Google, a Russian court has imposed a nearly unimaginable fine on the company: two undecillion roubles—a figure represented by a two followed by 36 zeroes.

Translated to dollar terms, this sum stands at an astonishing $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, far surpassing Google’s estimated value of $2 trillion and even exceeding the world’s total GDP, which the International Monetary Fund estimates at $110 trillion.

The fine is in response to Google’s restriction of 17 Russian state media channels on its platform YouTube. While these restrictions began in 2020, they intensified after Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, prompting most Western companies to exit Russia due to business restrictions and sanctions. This move also led to retaliatory measures from Moscow, including Russia’s ban on many Western platforms and a crackdown on local Google operations.

The Russian state news agency Tass reports that the fine doubles each day it goes unpaid. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the staggering figure, humorously admitting, “I cannot even pronounce this number,” while still urging Google to “pay attention” to the court’s demands. So far, Google has declined to comment publicly or respond to media requests.

This record-setting fine underscores the long-standing and contentious relationship between Russia and Google. Back in 2021, Russia’s media regulator, Roskomnadzor, accused Google of censoring Russian media, including RT and Sputnik, and allegedly promoting “illegal protest activity.” The following year, Google was fined 21.1 billion roubles ($301 million) for failing to limit access to information Russia deemed “prohibited,” including content related to the Ukraine conflict.

The situation reveals the extreme measures Russia is willing to take against foreign tech companies as it continues to tighten control over information within its borders. This latest fine against Google highlights the severe constraints on press freedom in Russia, where independent news outlets are either banned or heavily restricted.

PoliticsHow I Emptied My Bank To Support Tinubu – Asari Dokubi Cries Out Over Betrayal by Thissystem(op): 7:55am On Oct 27, 2024
Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has accused the Yoruba people of betraying the Ijaw people following the alleged neglect of the latter by President Bola Tinubu.

In a viral video on social media, Dokubo said Tinubu had betrayed him even though he went all out to ensure that the former Lagos State Governor won the 2023 presidential election.

The former militant claimed to have deployed his resources to canvass for votes for Tinubu during the election but has now been abandoned.

He stressed that he emptied his bank account to support the President, recalling how he asked Nigerians to hold him accountable if the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate failed as president.

He concluded that his alleged betrayal by Tinubu showed that the Ijaw people needed to form a new alliance with the Northern region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I apologise to our fathers because they were not wrong in forming an alliance with the North, and as young men, we will now start that same alliance.

“From today, I will work and form an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him. The Tinubu I know now isn’t the Tinubu I used to know. We will take this message across that only the Northerners can work with the Ijaw people.

“We can’t work with Yoruba people; they are a betrayal to us. We risked our lives by voting and doing everything, and this is what we get?” he said.

Before last year’s election, the former militant leader had boasted about a long-standing relationship with Tinubu, saying his support for him wasn’t intended to get any federal appointment.

“I am not a regular politician; I am just a friend of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am not looking for an appointment, but those seeking an appointment made sacrifices and are looking up to me to ensure that their sacrifices are not in vain,” he stated.

Ace Nollywood actress, Jumoke George has revealed the cause of her 14-year absence from the film industry.

Jumoke George spoke during an interview on Oyinmomo TV.

Speaking about the challenges faced in her career, the actress stated that her dark complexion and refusal to exchange sex for roles led to her prolonged absence.

“My dark complexion was not the only setback I faced in my career. Another reason why I did not get movie roles for like 14 years is my refusal to sleep around. When directors complained that I was too dark and I would tell them to add my lightning to the scene to make me look lighter.

“You can’t push me to do something I do not want to do. I will glow with this skin till old age and do not forget, black does not crack. I started issues when about 20 to 30 executives wanted sex in exchange for roles.

“And i said, as long as God exists, I would not find myself in such space. I didn’t get any movie roles for three years, and I did not understand what was happening until the day I saw one of our directors at Feminine Cafe at LTV 8, and asked him why he no longer called me for work.

“He then told me that their group of directors have decided not to give me roles and I was like why? He said it was because you refused to sleep with them. I just started crying and when I got home, I prayed to God to take control.”

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Olisa Agbakoba, has branded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a “terrorist organisation,” accusing them of abusing their powers to instill fear among Nigerians.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Friday, Agbakoba expressed concern over the agency’s conduct and its overlapping responsibilities with other law enforcement bodies.

Agbakoba called for a reassessment of the EFCC’s role, pointing out the confusion between it and other agencies such as the Special Fraud Unit and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

“Why do we have the EFCC, Special Fraud Unit, and ICPC all doing the same thing, yet they are not catching anybody?” he questioned.

While acknowledging some of the EFCC’s achievements, Agbakoba also criticised its handling of prominent cases, including the treatment of former police officials.

“Even Tarfa, as rogue as he was, being dragged – was that correct?” he asked, suggesting that their tactics reflect poor judgement. “In a sane society, do you bring a former Inspector General of Police and drag him? That’s not right.”

Agbakoba’s strongest condemnation of the EFCC was his description of their approach: “These guys are terrorists. In my view, they terrorize us. They use their might, in their red coats, to terrorize us so that when you hear EFCC, you become scared. That’s not what a law enforcement agency should be.”

He urged the National Assembly to clarify the EFCC’s role and called for reforms to ensure the agency functions as intended.

Renowned Nigerian singer and presenter, Charles Oputa, popularly called Charly Boy, has reacted to Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s apology on tithing.
Charly Boy's message is simple: Return the tithes that you collected!

Recall that Pastor Adeboye’s name has been trending on social media after the revered clergyman tendered a public apology over his sermon of many years ago, in which he declared that people who do not pay tithe would not make it to heave.

Pastor Adeboye the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), tendered this apology during his church’s Internation Youth Convention (IYC) at the Redemption City of God, Mowe, Ogun State.

“I’m apologizing for saying,’If you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,” Adeboye had said.

The apology has elicited mixed reactions on and off social media.

Reacting, in a post via his social media account, Charly Boy said Adeboye’s apology does not mean anything until he returns the tithes he collected from his congregation.

The entertainer said: “I truly believe that a lot of the fakest people are found in churches, my opinion not yours. Your apology doesn’t mean shit unless you promise to return the tithe money they give you for mumu people wey wan bribe dia way to heaven.

“Stop giving ur CONGREGATION ridiculous Lamba’s Sometimes the nicest people you meet may have bodies covered with Tattoos, the most bitter, judgemental, envious and wicked people all go to church on Sundays. Since your announcement decades ago, that people should trow away their TVs, I had always known that your way no pure as person wey dey “drink tea with God”

“There is nothing worse than a fault finding finger pointing Pastor who is as fake as the blings of a wanna be artist. Apology? when you know exactly what you’re doing. Nonsense Dia Father’s.”

The kinsman, who pleaded anonymity, said, “The incident happened along the expressway along the Awka area. The deceased thought the truck was moving, but when he realised it wasn’t moving, it was too late as he hit it, and his car veered into the gutter.

“The lawyer had recently welcomed a newborn with his wife, whom he married in February. His sudden demise has left his loved ones in shock.

“He had just put his late mother in the mortuary and was preparing for the funeral. Now, he’s joined her in the mortuary. The incident serves as a stark reminder of life’s unpredictability and the importance of cherishing every moment.

“It was an avoidable death caused by allowing abandoned vehicles to stay on the road longer than necessary. The stationary vehicle was at a dangerous position on the road thereby posing a danger to other road users.”

It was gathered that the victim’s remains had been deposited at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, morgue after he was confirmed dead.

Other residents have criticised traffic officials including the Federal Road Safety Corps for allegedly allowing the abandoned truck to remain on the road longer than necessary without taking action to tow it away.

But reacting to the development, the Corps Commander, FRSC, Anambra State Command, Joyce Alexander, commiserated with the family members of the victim, praying God to comfort all of them and take care of the family he left behind.
