What's Ribadu's duties vs EFCC? Trying to figure out why he 'summoned' on issues of alledged extortion and not EFCC 'summoned' |
Corruption, witch-hunting, extortion - Big problem in this country Is the one probing now being probed? What's going on?? |
The National Security Adviser (NSA) has reportedly summoned Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to probe the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele. Earlier reports highlighted claims of witch-hunting, extortion and undue intimidation by Obazee’s team, even after his mandated tenure had expired. President Tinubu appointed Obazee as a special investigator of the CBN under Emefiele through a letter dated July 28, 2023. Obazee and his team submitted their report, accusing the former CBN governor of misappropriating funds through contract scams and other fraudulent activities. Arab country, Qatar has denied the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s to visit the nation in a bid to hold business talks. In a Thursday letter to Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar disclosed that it would be unable to hold the proposed forum on March 2 and 3 due to the lack of a legally binding agreement between the two countries. The Qatari government added that its Commerce Ministry had other commitments on the days Tinubu desired to visit. “The Embassy has the honour to inform that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Qatar apologises that it will not be able to hold a Business and Investment Forum as proposed by Nigerian side,” the letter read. It added that “there is no any agreement signed between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Investment Promotion and Protection.” Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim al-Thani, Qatar’s Commerce Minister, it said, “will be carrying out official missions outside the country during the upcoming visit period.” “The State of Qatar will be hosting a web summit during the suggested period and the state’s authorities will be preoccupied with this event,” the letter detailed. It could be deduced that the failure to reschedule the business forum to a more convenient period by the Qatari government, suggests unwillingness to forge any economic alliance with Nigeria. https://dailypostngr.com/2024/02/qatar-rejects-tinubus-request-to-visit-for-business-talks/

I believe the President himself won’t even make such a controversial comment. Rather, he’s been begging people to be patient with him |
Can you imagine what somebody is saying in this most difficult time that people are feeling the heat of government policies?? Some have even died due to hardship https://www.nairaland.com/8005767/economic-hardship-46-professors-others

Stanley Okoro Emegha, Chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has posited that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot solve the increasing general hardship in the country alone. He however called on all Nigerians to go into agriculture to combat the economic crisis in the country. The APC chieftain who stated this at an event in Abakaliki, the state capital urged Nigerians to engage in meaningful ventures and stop blaming the President for their woes. Questioning if Tinubu had stopped anyone from going to their farm to cultivate crops, he said, “Things are hard in the country now, and the much we can do is to be helping those we are better than. I want everybody to embark on agriculture, let’s feed first. These are the things we can do by ourselves. I have told my family members that we have to go into cultivation. If you have food, I don’t think you will be hungry. “Government, to some extent, can provide food for certain agricultural programmes. So, why not go into cultivation? Let everybody embark on agriculture. “If you are hungry, what has Mr. President got to do? Mr. President cannot do it alone, all of us have to join hands and tackle this general hardship. “Go to the farm, did Mr. President tell you not to farm in your backyard? The answer is no. The Oluwole Market in Ogba, Lagos, witnessed a disruption of commercial activities as clashes erupted between Yoruba and Hausa communities. The clash, which began on Thursday night and escalated into Friday morning, resulted in the tragic death of a young man, further fueling tensions between the two groups. Daily Trust reports that the clash reportedly started when a Yoruba man, identified as Abbey, intervened in a quarrel between two Hausa men. In the course of the intervention, Abbey was allegedly stabbed by an unidentified assailant, leading to fatal injuries. The aftermath of Abbey’s death triggered a reprisal attack between Yoruba and Hausa residents in the area. The reprisal attack resulted in the destruction of property, particularly food items such as peppers, onions, and other commodities sold by Hausa traders in the Oluwole Market. If only the ‘Flying’ will lead to improved economy and security, then good! But we’re not seeing that yet. |
If racking up air miles is the measure of a successful presidency, President William Ruto of Kenya and President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria might be winning. Since becoming presidents, they have faced similar criticism over their frequent trips abroad. According to the BBC, the two men have been the subject of unflattering descriptions – the costs associated with their alleged penchant for air travel often contrasted with tough economic conditions at home. The Standard, a Kenyan newspaper, has affectionately dubbed Ruto the “Flying President”. “so great is his love for flying that it appears that he cannot pass up any opportunity” despite pressing domestic demands, such as dealing with the high cost of living,” it said. In Kenya, basic commodities like food, electricity, and fuel have gotten more expensive in the last year. On top of that, Taxes have eaten even deeper into the pockets of average Kenyans. The economic reality is not any better in Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy. Given the financial implications, many Nigerians see President Tinubu’s frequent international trips as contradicting the sacrifices he’s been asking citizens to make since the fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the naira. On his social media, Nigeria’s opposition leader Atiku Abubakar stressed that Nigeria does not need a “tourist-in-chief”. “Sacrifices for a better Nigeria must start from the leaders at all levels of government because the people have always made painful sacrifices, and the leaders must lead by example,” Peter Obi, another popular opposition leader chimed in. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cautioned that Nigeria’s exchange rate might experience an additional 35 per cent depreciation this year. What the IMF said: “Monetary policy is tightened insufficiently to bring down inflation below 20% and pressures on the naira persist. In addition, Nigeria is hit by another adverse climate shock in early 2024 (following severe flooding in late 2022) that exacerbates the current weakness in agriculture and leads to a decline in output and a surge in food prices,” “Given the absence of local production and the recent liberalization of commodity imports, the exchange rate would likely depreciate further—by an estimated 35% in 2024—and contribute to a further sharp rise in inflation, peaking at 44%, before monetary policy is eventually tightened sharply.” The Bretton Woods institution suggests that the country would gain from formulating a comprehensive macroeconomic and growth strategy, in collaboration and with support from development partners. Even with these challenges, the IMF is optimistic that Nigeria will fulfil its repayment obligations to the Fund, provided there is a continued focus on servicing external debt. “Nigeria would be able to repay the fund, even in the downside scenario. This assumes that the authorities continue to prioritise external debt service. However, debt service would compete directly with urgent humanitarian needs to tackle rising poverty and food insecurity which would need to be prioritised,” it said. Faiththatworks:You think so? A basic google search shows the news is everywhere online even on Binance platform by users. The fact remains though that government needs a holistic approach to problem solving, not only Binance for this matter.

burp18:Government really needs to tackle the root cause of the problem not treating the symptoms alone. It’s like one having headache and experiencing weakness due to Diabetes but the person is busy taking only paracetamol and drinking lucozade for energy. The sickness will remain until the cause is treated/managed properly. |
alanih:I just put it |
We need more measures to improve the economy There should be urgent review of the current economic and monetary policies. Treat the root cause and the symptom will disappear. The fall in the value of naira, hunger and chaos are symptoms.....Like symptoms of malaria, symptoms of diabetes, symptoms of pneumonia, etc. When you treat the root cause, symptoms will go away. Some of government's approach to solutions lately is like someone having headache and experiencing weakness due to Diabetes but the person is busy taking only paracetamol and drinking lucozade for energy. The sickness will remain until the cause is treated/managed properly. |

Horrifying Watch the video (Viewer discretion advised) https://dailypostngr.com/2024/02/lion-kills-ife-university-staff-on-campus/ BTW That Zoo doesn’t really look well maintained/barricaded. Safety is very important. Not sure why people take life for granted in this country. OAU should pay attention to that Zoo or close it if they can’t maintain it. Another Lion can probably escape easily through any loophole there into the community. God forbid!
