@AUGUSTUS DO YOU RECOGNISED THESE HOOLIGANS AS PROFESSIONAL ....SUCH OCCURS UNDER A RAG TAG ARMY

Soldiers have reportedly been on a rampage in Ikorodu after a bus driver crushed a soldier to death. The BRT driver who hit the soldier ran into Palmgrove estate in order to avoid the wrath of other soldiers present. Upon noticing that the driver ran away, the Army men ran into Palmgrove estate and when they couldn’t find the driver, seized one of the Estate’s security men.

They also stopped BRT buses and beat passengers and set some of the buses on fire. Spectators who were trying to take pictures claim to have been beaten by the soldiers as well. According to an eye-witness, two civilians were allegedly beaten up and a guy who was taking pictures was beaten and his phone smashed on the express road.

Then the soldiers allegedly started vandalizing the buses! According to the source, some soldiers left the express and took big sticks from women cooking by the road to break the glasses of the bus. Then one of them took stones and allegedly threw it into the crowd twice. Now the whole express is blocked.

Nigerian Army soldiers deployed to the northeastern region of Nigeria to curb the activity of the Boko Haram terrorist sect have accused their superior officers of embezzling huge parts of the funds allocated for counter-insurgency.

Speaking anonymously, the soldiers stated those at the forefront of fighting the insurgency live in abominable conditions and suffer from lack of basic facilities while the top officers enrich themselves.

Brit advisers are assisting the hunt for the girls who were snatched by Islamist group Boko Haram on April 14.

But military top brass claim British and US intelligence efforts are being undermined by Nigerian cock-ups.

They are annoyed that the existence of secret information detailing the possible whereabouts of the girls was made public.

“The good news for the parents is that we know where they are” Air Marshal Alex Badeh
The country’s Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh told the state news agency: “The good news for the parents is that we know where they are.”

It is feared that could have led to the captors moving the girls to another location.

A British source said: “It is very frustrating. He was obviously briefed by our people.

“By announcing that he knows where they are, it may force Boko Haram to move the girls and he added that the Nigerians will not consider a military rescue because it is too dangerous.

Brits commanders are also frustrated at the Nigerian government’s apparent inaction.

The source added: “There is little direction from the Nigerians but when there is any news they want to take all the credit.

“But this is a Nigerian operation, even though others are doing all the work.”

Both the UK and the US have deployed spy planes to hunt for the girls whose plight has led to a social media campaign.

Angry Nigerian soldiers fire on senior officer.

Islamic militants again attacked the remote Nigerian town from which nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped, Nigeria’s military said Wednesday, resulting in a firefight that killed 12 soldiers and led angry troops to fire on a commanding officer.

Soldiers said the troops fired at a senior officer who came to pay respects to the killed soldiers, whose bodies were brought to a barracks in Maiduguri. The capital of northeastern Borno state is about 130 kilometers north of the town of Chibok, where the girls were abducted a month ago.

The incident is a sign of demoralization in the military that is in charge of the search operation for the abducted schoolgirls. The failure of Nigeria’s government and military to find them after the April 15 mass abduction has brought mounting national and international outrage and forced Nigeria’s government to accept international help.

@AUGUSTUS ...South Africa does not need such a massive number of helicopters.....South Africa is not at war and Nigeria is and if it was not BK no such acquisition would be undertaken....Remember SOUTH AFRICA IS A PROFESSIONAL ARMY CAPABLE OF MAINTAING ITS FLEET AND NIGERIA DOES NOT IN 5 YEARS RUSSIANS AND AMERICANS WOULD BE SERVICING AT A MASSIVE COST THESE HARDWARE.

WHILE SOUTH AFRICA IN 1 YEAR WOULD BE EXPORTING ROOIVALK TO NEARLY 8 COUNTRIES

South Africa is contributing to advancement of better EU ..... Local aerospace company Denel Aerostruc-tures (DAe), part of the State-owned Denel Group, has won a fourth contract to manufacture parts for the Airbus A400M military air transport and air-to-air refuelling aircraft. The new contract, which was won in an international bidding process, is worth more than R260-million and will run for six years. DAe is based in Kempton Park, on the far side of OR Tambo International Airport from the terminal buildings, east of Joahnnesburg.

The new contract is to manufacture ISO locks for installation in the cargo holds of all A400Ms. These components are a combination of alumin-ium rails and cross tracks which serve to guide the movement of ISO containers within the cargo hold. The containers are then secured in their positions by a comprehensive system of locking mechanisms. The ISO locks will be manufactured to designs supplied by Airbus Defence & Space.

In the mid-1990s, when a senior officer in the SA Navy was asked, how he saw the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and in particular the South African Navy (SAN) of the future. His said it would either be a small hi-tech force, or a large low-tech force.
While the trend before the strategic arms package seemed to be towards a large low-tech force, the trend has definitely changed - not
necessarily towards a small hi-tech force, but definitely away from the former trend.

On Modern weapons this is what he said:

Any new (as opposed to used/"second-hand"wink weapon system procured today, if not intrinsically hi-tech, contains at least some hi-tech functionality or components. This has implications in terms of operational use and/or operational support.
While this is generally true for all modern defence forces worldwide, what are the implications for the SANDF?
A further complicating factor is the type of operations the SANDF has to be able to perform, ranging from very low-intensity peace support operations (PSO) to defending the integrity of SA against a conventional onslaught. The potential area of operations, ranging from savannah to dense forest and marshland, does not make the task any easier.

On Conflicting implications

The recent experience in armed conflict worldwide has also showed that while hi-tech systems, weapons and armaments can achieve an initial "shock and awe" effect, it has to be followed up by "boots on the ground" to ensure final victory and achievement of the military and therefore political objectives.

This has conflicting implications in as much as that it requires some mix of hi-tech capability as well as sufficient numbers of soldiers with basic infantry training and abilities. In terms of the SANDF, this is evident in the sophisticated aircraft being acquired by the South African Air Force, the hi-tech submarines and patrol corvettes of the SAN, while the SA Army conducts PSO requiring the basic infantry capability.
In order to be able to fully meet the strategic objectives set for it, the SANDF, and specifically the SA Army, also needs a hi-tech capability. This is being addressed by projects such as the ground-based air defence system currently in the acquisition phase, the new generation infantry fighting-vehicle (Project Hoefyster) to be acquired, and Project African Warrior (infantry modernisation), among others.

Becoming sophisticated
In addition to sophisticated electronics, the IT component of modern weapon systems is becoming the heart of its evolving functionality. This means soldiers are being exposed to more and more sophisticated (often embedded) IT systems as part of their trade.
The new weapon systems have far-reaching operational and support implications. From an operational perspective, it requires new or adapted doctrine, operating procedures, training and training systems.
In order to optimally integrate new systems and/or equipment into the SANDF joint operational capability, the use of constructive simulation (or "war gaming"wink is being seen as an excellent tool. The SANDF fortunately has access to world-class solutions in this regard.

On Gaining support
An even more challenging aspect of the hi-tech systems is the operational support. Traditional, entrenched approaches are being challenged by the sophistication of the equipment and the multitude of engineering disciplines required for maintenance.
A single platform can require a combination of electrical engineering, electronics skills, hydraulics knowledge, mechanical expertise and IT capabilities to maintain. It is virtually impossible for even the most advanced First World defence forces to main sufficient depth of manpower for this purpose.

On Involved transformation
So what is the solution to this problem? While there is still an international transformation in progress in this regard, it is obvious industry needs to become much more involved – from the second line of support in many cases, right through to depot and industry level.
This again has implications in terms of faultfinding and diagnostics, which need to be more user-friendly, allowing the military to identify a fault to a "line replaceable unit" or functional component, which can be swapped out. The soldier will not open any "black boxes", but will simply send it to industry for repair (or replacement). This, in turn, has a knock-on effect in terms of spares holding and cost.
The real challenging aspect here is software. Theoretically software is deterministic, and should be integrated into weapons platforms and systems in a fault-free manner. However, should there prove to be a "bug" or a critical required functional enhancement, it is mostly only the original software provider who would be able to fix the bug or implement the enhancement. This cements the support relationship between the military and the industry.
For the SANDF and the local defence-related industry, this is an area we still have to jointly address.
