Hi, Ujoinme, welcome thank you for the pictures. I think you should get busy answering some questions and saving your boss here. ![]() |
Akwa Ibom Budget 2011 - N287.4bn 2012 - N397.1 bn 2013 - N470.1 + 100bn + 125bn(Supplementary Budget) = N695.1bn 2014 - N469.374bn |
Stantiques:You keep shouting 'free and compulsory education', is that the only thing he has done as regards education? What are the standards of those primary and secondary schools? Who attends those schools? 5 - 10 years.. ![]() You said you are by IBB by Abak Road, how do you cope when it rains and IBB is flooded? ![]() Like you said you are not from Akwa Ibom, I know where you are coimng from that is why you are so overwhelmed! ![]() |
shizzleStar:1. The overpriced cost of the stadium. 2. The cost of the commissioning event. |
shizzleStar:Counter the points raised! Don't bore us with PDP and APC or Akpabio and Fashola! Comment on the points. |
InyinyaAgbaOku:How does Lagos come in? |
morefire:Excuse me, which state are you talking about here? Please list the beneficiary schools of the 'e'-libraries? By free, what do you mean? What are the standards of Akwa Ibom Primary and Secondary Schools? Post Pictures Please. Your friend is probably among Akpabio's family and friends? Kindly post a link of the advert to that scholarship scheme and the year? List the 'hospitals' Akpabio has commissioned and the standards too. What you call 'hospitals' are mere primary health care centres. UUTH which is a Federal govt owned hospital is the only Tertiary Health facility in the state and is always filled to the brim with no bed space. Patients sleep on the corridor. Your need to be analytical in your thinking! ![]() |
arresa:Thank you! Fantastic response ![]() |
morefire:Bro we are talking two different things here, you are talking politics like a politician that you are and I am talking economics and the social well being of the people. If you think Akpabio is the best, can you enumerate in the following areas, his achievements: Education (not free and compulsory education because that is a joke, Infrastructure wise, the state polytechnic and University in terms of infrastructure has a primary school outlook,), Health, Human Capital development (for your information, Akpabio has not awarded any graduate or post graduate scholarship in his eight year rule! Forget the India jamboree, they are the only set made up of friends and family), Water supply (forget about drilling boreholes everywhere, individuals are doing that), Social services etc Let me stop here! |
morefire:It's funny how you can see only in the spectrum of PDP versus APC and Akpabio versus Fashola. In my post, just incase you did not read it, I have not mentioned Fashola's name, please go and read it now. I am not making a comparism here. I will excuse you now, go and read the post first. Thank you. |
morefire:When you understand what cost and benefits are, then we can discuss. For now continue in your PDP versus APC myopic mentality. ![]() |
Probably no stadium has ever been commissioned with so much fanfare, and at such obviously stupendous cost, as the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, recently declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan in Uyo, the state capital. And possibly, none might ever be. With three sitting, and at least one former, African Presidents (Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire) in attendance, along with the National Chairman and other top officials of the People's Democratic Party, state governors, ministers, the cream of Nollywood, active and retired footballers, including Pele himself, international media personalities and sundry social (and political) climbers, Governor Godswill Akpabio clearly OUTDID himself with the sheer extravagance of the event. It seemed as if the man was hosting the opening ceremony of the finals of the World Cupitself! Or the Olympics. The stadium and its noisy commissioning are part of the Akpabio style of governance; one he has consciously deployed from his first day in office: overpriced, showy projects that can be promoted in the noisiest possible manner as evidence of transformation to the gullible but which adds little or nothing to the lives of ordinary Akwa Ibom people. Does anyone remember the first-in-Africa underground pipe jacket drainage system or the last time Uyo failed to flood with just few minutes of rainfall? Besides the president said it at the commissioning of the stadium that there is no flood again in Uyo. A laughable and a clueless talk from the president. How about the e-library, the most expensive cyber cafe in the world which, as this is written has not worked as advertised for even one day. A trip to the place on week days shows there is no light and the reading areas are always dark and hot. Why would a government that has so far failed in seven years of trying to complete a hospital project, expend so much of its time, energy and people's scarce resources, on a one day stadium commissioning event costing N3.5bn of tax payers money. In Uyo the state capital, there is no general hospital worth the name and the said hospital project is not for the people of Uyo but to serve the purpose of the so-called 'medical tourism'. Why should it take seven years to build the specialist hospital in Itam, Akpabio's very own first major project? Why is it that so far, its advertised cost of 37 billion Naira, the Tropicana entertainment complex is yet to be completed. Will it ever be completed? Why is the government subsidizing the cinema part of the complex; paying Silverbird to run the place at less than the going commercial rate that it charges in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja? Can any sane man defend the fact that in a poor yet very rich place like Akwa Ibom, the achievement of the basic MDGs is still a dream, yet the state government is subsidizing cinema entrance tickets. Back to the stadium, comparatively, The bird's nest in China has a capacity for 91, 000 spectators and boasts of 140 5 star executive suites. But more importantly, it costs the Chinese government and taxpayers the total sum of 423 million USD or equivalent of 70 billion Naira to build the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing. In Akwa Ibom State, the 'transformational' government of Godswill Akpabio unabashedly used about 480 million USD or approximately 80 million Naira of the commonwealth of Akwa Ibom people to construct a less-than 40, 000 capacity stadium . The Akwa Ibom stadium does not have many of the hi-tech quality facilities that the Chinese Bird's Nest Stadium has and there isn't a single executive suite! Godswill Akpabio can fool some of the people, including President Jonathan some, or even most, of the time but he cannot fool all of us, forever. Someday, somehow, the truth will be out!
