Fussbot: kk..we've heard..and nobody is saying they shldn't collect money..but must we deposit b4 they attend to ushuhinfact if u tel them that they should pls attend 2 u b4 u go to the bank and withdraw money...they'l tel 2 go and withdraw first b4 u come 4 treatment(ur family hospital can do that 4 u though..but dem government own no go gree o)...and so many lives have bin lost cus of dis thing...
It's important to get some money deposited before treatment if your hospital has to continue as a business.I will give you a practical example.
A patient is brought to the hospital as an accident case for instance. You stabilize the patient, give drips, drugs, blood and even do a minor surgery or suturing.A few days after, the patient dies(only God can keep life). Now the family says our relative is dead, why are u still asking us for money?Do you know how many of this kind of case I have seen.Do you know how personally I have not had money paid me because the patient died or left and didn't come back.
Imagine if this happens frequently, how it will affect the running of the hospital.

jechona: I know some people will be mad at me for creating this thread, but lets face reality here.

In Nigeria, the medical profession seams to be worshiped and given the best considerations and benefits compared to other professions, yet it is the most irresponsible profession in the country.

It might interest you to know that despite all they enjoy;

- about 80% of death cases in the hospitals are caused by the doctors or nurses negligence. (they have a backup, 'we tried out best but we couldn't make it'. I wonder what best they tried).

- there is a saying 'health is better than wealth' but for the medical profession 'wealth is better than health'. So no matter how severe your case is, without money no attention is given to you.

- In the hospital, you pay what ever bill they charge you without prizing, even when you don't know what you are paying for.

- In some cases, especially surgery, after you have paid for most of the items needed before the surgery, they will still accumulate them for you to pay again before you leave the hospital (only some smart and deciplined people are able to detect this with their reciepts).

- You hardly go for anything in the hospital and come back successful the first day, you must keep having dates with the doctor.

- Once its 2pm in the government hospitals, they tell you they are tire that they have been working since mornig (even when there are no patients).

- And the worst of all, most of the doctors and nurses lacks manners. (their mouth alone can kill the patient before the illness)

please feel free to add your own experiences and observations.
Your post shows u are misinformed. There may be isolated cases of malpractice but it's poor judgement to generalise.
To think once u get to the hospital, they must save your life is an illusion.Have u ever heard the statement,'we care but God heals'.Do you know that in Nigeria people badly manage their health and present in the hospital only when it is bad?
You are probably one of those people who think the hospital is a charity organisation.Do you realise the hospital is also a business? How do you want the doctors, nurses and other health workers to be paid salaries promptly and other expenditure taken care of if money is not seriously considered in the hospital? If u want free service, then you should keep telling your government to provide that.I want you to know that till date, there is no free service.I must add that you need to know how much debt the hospital writes off regularly and that many are treated free because they can't pay.
-If u ever receive treatment at the hospital, you can ask then for a bill and tell then to break it down for you,it is your right. You can also observe due diligence and ask for charges for services before you receive such. You should know that cost of surgery is not the total bill.Other costs you will incur is drugs, admission etc.
-If you go to the hospital, there are certain investigations and tests that may bring you back to the hospital,so don't expect that you will complete all treatment in your one day visit.
-You need to know the volume of patients health workers in government hospitals deal with everyday.Do you know how understaffed they are? When you are exhausted,is it not good also not to have to keep seeing patients so as not to misdiagnose or give wrong prescriptions? You really may not appreciate the volume of work. Please find a relative who works there to ask.
-You say MOST doctors and nurses have bad manners? You need to pick a dictionary to check the meaning of most again.

I am a health worker.

gbadexy: The guy is perfectly right. On the other hand I think its your hypocritical christian brothers that need God's forgiveness.
Simply because a couple Islamic threads made front page on friday that was muslims holy day, the christians flooded the thread with insults and complaints about that despite the fact that there were numerous other threads on the front page including tonto dike riding bicycle.
I am a muslim and we aren't worshiping the same God so let's skip the pretense.
I have more respect for pagans and some atheists than for the holier than thou, hypocrite christians.
You are right. The God the Christians worship is the One Who sent Jesus Who is the True God(John 17:3).He is not the same as the one the muslims know.

Islam › Re: Why Do Christians Hate Seeing Muslim Girls In Hijab? by thorpido(m): 4:32pm On Feb 23, 2013
The language and the spirit behind your write-up is the main reason why a lot of people have issues with muslims. It's not so much of the hijab,it's the heart/spirit of the muslim.
I have seen good muslims so I can't generalize that muslims are not good.
However,if I'm to assess you by your write-up,it shows u already have a bias.
Let me teach u.Consider this;what if u opened a thread with a title like this:
THE BEAUTY AND USEFULNESS OF HIJAB.
Will this be more useful and serve better purpose?

Ujujoan: Not to digress the topic sha . .
This is exactly why I'm no fan of inter tribal marriages. Especially igbos marrying Yorubas. I almost made the mistake once but Thank God for divine intervention.
Nothing like having your own man to speak your native tongue with. cool cool
All these Yoruba nbgati people stealing our men and refusing to live by our rules. Tufiakwa! tongue tongue
The man wey go marry am nko? Onu ru kai kai huh undecided
I have a sister who is on the verge of being decieved into marrigae by a yoruba man, I've been rolling on the ground begging her not to agree.
Plus prayers and fasting and soaking my rosary in water.
Abeg make them keep their ofe mmanu make we keep our nna bros!
Errrm . . . no offence! cool cool cheesy cheesy
You've really got it twisted. If u had read the whole story with comprehension,u would av seen who d problem is.Of what use is a man of a particular tribe who is irresponsible? So much to my tribesman.

Health › Goldie's Autopsy Result And Your Health Status by thorpido(op): 7:22am On Feb 21, 2013
The autopsy result released by the pathologist stating the cause of death as intracerebellar haemorrhage due to hypertensive heart disease has put to rest the controversy on the cause of her death.
For a young lady to have died at 31yrs of hypertensive heart disease raises questions about the management of our health. It was never mentioned that she had such a health issue but I believe she must have been diagnosed at one time of hypertension and that raises the question of if she managed her health status well.

Do you know your health status?Have u in recent times visited a hospital to have a health check-up?
Do you have a familiar history of any health condition?
Have you checked your blood pressure and blood sugar in recent times?
If you are over 35 years, you should start to think of having a comprehensive health check-up.
Most people who have a stroke are often symptom-less before it happens.
Take better care of your health.

mofolorunshoabi: Thank u all for ur various contributions. You don't know how relieved I am reading them all. Somebody erronously quoted my age to be 34. Am 39 now and the man will be 50 this year. This is not superstory. It is happening to me NOW as I speak. Our first born will be 15 while the last child is 12 this year. Honestly I did not bargain for this. My naiveity has caused me a lot. Even my husband, the petitioner said it in court that "this woman has been a wonderful woman" because I did everything to support him. What he is planning is to keep the kids in the east so they can learn ibo while he stays in lagos with the widow. My major concern is if it is possible for me to get 50/50 custody of the kids because what pple are saying is that in Nigeria law, fathers must have custody of their children once they are above 7. This is a trying period for me please I need ur advise and prayers.
Get a good lawyer who can help u win custody of the kids.U stand a good chance as a woman to win the custody.I don't really support divorce but ur husband's attitude shows he's not a man worth fighting to keep.Overcome your emotions and make a good decision.

tzetzefly: Fellow forumites, how do you view this situation when a man / woman gets married to somebody, belonging to another religious belief. To what extent do you think this alliance can work..?
Some people have done it and they have been able to manage it.However, there are fundamental doctrines in each religion that marrying someone who does not believe what you believe complicates things. Moreover, leading the children the right way is difficult.

There are no two right ways.

olabowale: PastorAIO, thanks for wanting the clarification of what the contributors are saying about what God is praised by in Yoruba language. Some of these are purely unIslamic. Examples are the Kiniun awon omo Judahs, Ogbe inu wundia sholas, etc.

We in Islam do not objectify The Almighty by restricting Him as a lion or some animals of some people or lord of some people or using a womb of a virgin as a pad (like in bachelor's pad) for a moment! These are Trinity, and it is strictly Christians. I dont think the babalawos, etc will even stoop that low, since they are usually convinced about their beliefs, knowing their gods, not calling them multi personalities.
Well u can imagine then the god that stoops so low as to send his slaves to destroy innocent souls. At least the God described above has wonderful attributes.

People like to carry rumours and say bad things.
Whatever, she's gone and the lesson is for the living to live a life worthy of emulation and do good.
