The govt ill even pay them for the period they were even sacked Their demands are legitimate. win win for them

Demdem is far beyond that. when i go to hospitals, i go primarily because i want to see a doctor and not one useless consultant nurse or pharmacy. Only doctors attends to demdem, care for him and even brings his drugs. My only interaction with u folks is hen u come around to wash my bed suite.

If all support staffs that comprises johesu go on strike or better of sacked, the hospitals will still function but the workloads of the doctors will multiply exponentially but the case can't be said if otherwise, johesu members will remain redundant.
Again, a patient primarily goes to the hospital to see first and foremost a doctor before any other professional.
Don't make ursef more important than what u guys are really are. Even with the sack of doctors, johesu consultants till today can't do anything about the hospitals

they have been known to even lock doctors out of departments.
instances abound where JOHESU mandates its members to switch of power from the gen when doctors are busy in the theatre.
clinics and wards run. theatres run. you know this is a fact!!

The nurse, lab technician, cleaner, or record keeper? As much as don't want to belittle these other professions, the doctor's years of training, experience, and other qualifications places them ahead of others in the hospital. Every else's there to play SUPPORT ROLES. Yes they must work as a team, but the doctor is still the team lead in the hospital.

Who's going to train the next generation of specialist doctors? Where are the poor and a huge chunk of the middle class going to run to? As we speak, a huge number of doctors have already left the country for better opportunities outside, and more are set to leave. Those left with PPs have now sworn to hike up their prices. Now who suffers? And do you really think the VERY FEW consultants we have left will be able to cater to the needs of 120mil+ citizens?

chuksbogus: the problem in health sector is that some of the professionals are not good in adapting to changes.the doctors are finding it difficult to accept that other professions are expanding,improving and evolving. they find it hard to accept that Nurses can be degree holders,master and PhD holders.they keep comparing medicine and nursing which can never be compared cos they are two different progression.One says its 6yrs course the other said its 5 years both when graduated are degree Holders. they do internship which nurses will start very soon,pharmacy and med lab are doing the same internship.pls people on appointment drs start on grade level12 other 8,and 10 and here they are asking of relativity saying yet d salary of a nurse on 12 shld not be equal to that of dr on 12 not minding that the nurse must have put up not least 9 years to 12yrs to get to that grade level 12 that a newly employed 10 is starting like wise other health professionals.they don't want others yo be consultants when the body regulating that profession has stipulated the criteria for their members to be consultants saying that they d drs suffer to be a consultant.pls if for instance nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria state that for one to be a nurse consultant he must be a masters degree holder in nursing and must have gone through with courses with west African council of nursing and is now a fellow is that not their criteria? must d nurse go through the same drs procedure to be a consultant nurse?mind you we are talking of consultant nurse not dr here .is it the issue of a director where other proffesionals outside health get to direct and now drs said that even If u have PhD that when u get to asst director you shld remain there .OK 100k hazard allowance for only drs imagine are they exposed to hazard than the nurse that stays with this patient 24/7 or the lab scientists that deals with biohazards everyday? that they are asking for only drs if others ask theirs drs will go on strike .I think the drs shld know that other professions are growing and shld accept that fact that not the nurses you have in 1980 that is around now not med lab tech now but med lab science .each profession in health shld fight to progress and be the best in their profession and forget about fighting each other cos all of them must work together for patient to get well.

DrLuv: LOL.you should be thev one to actually find out how medicine is being practiced abroad...with respect to ur point particularly in major developed countries...even in 3rd world countries such as india..and u will weep for our country nigeria.yes,overthere,every health worker stays in his or her vocational calling..each group does not plot to invade the traditional jurisdiction of the other.it's so structured and boundries well defined.over there.,a doctor owns a patient hence he is infact traditionally responsible for making/taking decisions that is relevant to the wholistic wellbeing of a patient at various levels.well..it is only in nigeria where things do not work in an ideal way that u find so many aberrations,and deviations from the acceptable norm.not only the health sectors.people(both medical and non medicals) should try and find out how things are being run in major countries with fairly successful healthcare delivery systems before coming down here to post trash,critisisms,ego driven comment.,inferiority driven comments etc..maybe we can learn some ideal way forward.i am not exempting my self sha before some start..

ocelot2006: Guy, you're the one talking now, but I can assure you that the nation may be facing an imminent collapse of the health sector, no thanks to this decision (especially now that we have an Ebola outbreak, the worst in history). Do you really think the Medical Officers are cut out to perform the jobs of these crop of experienced specialists who basically run ALL the Teaching Hospitals? Or do you think the 4000 consultants left nationwide can handle 120mil+ Nigerians? It is people like you that I pity, cos you're now faced with a situation were you can only get your health care services from Teaching Hospitals staffed with inexperienced MOS + overworked consultants OR private practices owned by specialist docs were you have to pay through your nose for services. Oh, I forgot to add that the health services will still be underfunded, no one to train the new crop of cos, inadequate facilities, etc. But hey, your choice.
