addictiv: inspiring thread op. i am a graduate of gas engineering currently planning on going for Msc in the US but am having difficulties in picking between Drilling, Subsea and Production engineering. i want to engage myself in facing the challenges in the industry as well as fix myself in an area that guarantees job security globally and attractive remuneration . i dont intend to spend more than 15 yrs in the industry before retiring to set up an O&G firm back home. advice plsI would suggest you do alittle digging about the course you intend studying. As interesting as some of these courses sound, they can be quite challenging, hence alot would actually depend on your background/area of interest. Also you'll need thorough research regarding the right school to choose. Based on my findings, there is actually only 1 school in the US that offers a course in subsea Engineering. Popular schools that offers the course (in English) are in the UK & Australia (Aberdeen, Strathclyde, Newcastle, Curtin University etc). A thorough research would do the trick. |
xfire: Thanks for your contribution. And I quite agree that experienced instrumentation & control engineers are in high demand, as well as corrosion engineers and facilities engineers. but this is a listing of the most demanded fields in the industry worldwide. I will not list I & C engineering in the top 10 based on current trends in the industry.Ok, I agree with you (just a little though ), cos of the "BASED ON CURRENT TREND" in your reply.I also think GEJ/OBJ (which ever of them signed it) deserves some serious thumbs-up for the "LOCAL CONTENT" law. That singular deed has, is and will be creating jobs for Nigerian graduates. Nice post though. We need more of these kinda discussions, and not all the crap making front page these days... Thumbs up. ![]() |
Geniuz: Sir xfire, can someone who studied Electrical/Electronics Engineering and did Instrumentation and control in his finals work as an Instrumentation and control Engineer in an Oil and gas company?Definately... As a matter of fact about 95% of Instrumentation & Control Engineers in the oil & gas industry are Elect-Elect graduates. Others have background in Physics & Electronics, Systems/Computer Engineering or Science, even Mechanical Engineering. @OP in shell shocked you made no mention of Instrumentation & Control Engineers in your list. They are (in my opinion) one of the most sought-after and highly paid Engineers in the oil & Gas industry. BTW im a Piping & Mechanical Static Engineer.... so im not being biased in my assertions. See link below to know more about Instrumentation & Control Engineering. http://timmsvillee..com/

osram: Pls can a electrical/electronics engineer go in pippingand pipe designing and engineering?I wont advice any elect-ellect graduate to go for piping design or piping engineering. Im a mechanica static & piping engineer by proffession, and may atimes, i see people from other wonderful discipline very confused as to what to or what not to delve into. Have you heard of "Instrumentation & Control" Engineering ![]() They are the most sought after people in the oil & Gas industry. Equip your self with the relevant skills and stand out.
