Emmafly: Good morning readers, I am adding okra seeds to the mix too. I bought Yeleen okra from technisem.
The ugu farm is also going on well. Though the drought has started in my region. The sun is really hot. The land is totally dried.
An advice to those transplanting seedlings is make sure you wet the hole before planting the seedlings. Then wet after planting the seedlings. Very important.
Emmanuel 08183549869. Emmaflyng - tiktok, youtube, instagram. What are the features of this okra variety? Is it the variety that's as short as a coke bottle? |

Emmafly: Good evening, I have started preparations for the dry season vegetable farming.
I will like to use this thread as my update line.
Pictures will follow through.
1. The Plan : The plan is to plant ugu seeds in the swamp between now and November ending, then start selling by first week of January down till 2nd week of June. Only leaf will be sold as it is swamp farming, because by the time it will be ready for seed production, the rain might have taken over part of the swamp. A normal swamp is only dry for at most 6 months. But know one thing, you would have made enough money to compensate for seeds. One reason I am going to the swamp is because of irrigation cost. For me setting up boreholes on upland is a bit expensive and labour intensive especially on a short time rented land. But swamp farming makes it all easy. Just dig gutter inside the swamp in case of flash flood which is dependent on area. Part of the swamp that is a bit dry has been cleared while seeds has also been planted waiting patiently for germination by God's grace. While some ugu seeds will be planted in nursery bags and transplanted as the water recede from the swamp surface. The maximum time to transplant ugu from a pure water sachet seedling bag is 21days- this is from my personal experience and research. I plan to plant 2seeds per hole with a maximum spacing of 3ft.
More info to come as the journey progresses by God's Grace.

Chithauri: do tescom recruit every year? No they don't. They recruit when they need teachers...no specific time. It could be in 2 years or more. It could be in less. Sometimes they call applicants who applied before than start a new recruitment process. The last one started in 2019. Now we have 2021. Who knows when next... If they get enough teachers then no need to recruit till there is a need again. |

FarmTech: .. Thanks very much. I finally found land in Awkuzu. I'm partnering with another nairalander. Hello Boss Please what advise do you have for me...I have access to a land thats waterlogged due to a nearby river.i was told that the river is not so close but drainage is needed to divert the water elsewhere. Its a residential area (a family lives there)so I plan planting there for now then maybe build if the lord permits later. Do you think such a place will be good for farming and what are the things I could consider farming there? It's not so expensive but I don't want to waste money buying a land that won't be useful. Thanks |

ayoola111: I wasn’t selected for online test. I just got a call to go to their office in ikeja oba akinjobi way. Met other people there, we did written test which is an essay writing with a topic. The test was for 10mins. It was mainly to test our writing skills, use of words, punctuation etc. Then, we did micro teaching and oral interview. The essay we wrote determined our success because it carried 40marks while the micro teaching and oral interview carried 10 marks each. So the total score was 60marks, I learnt we were graded as well with our dressing and all. Anything below 50 is F which means Fail. Just make sure your phones are on and available, not everyone would be selected for the online test, you might just be called upon. Thanks for the information. I really appreciate |

Agriculture › Re: Diary Of A Backyard Gardener! by tikkykay: 7:16pm On Aug 12, 2021 |
zxcvbnmlkjhgfds: Dear diary,
Challenges of a small-scale gardener/farmer
1. High cost of seeds: This has been a major bane of we small time agriculturists. For example, a tin of Greengo Cucumber (one of the very best varieties) is sold for N9000 - N9,500. This really expensive for someone like me who is a hobbyist and not a commercial farmer. Hence, most times we resort to buying cheap seeds that are often not of the best quality.
2. Attitude of 'experts' : there are so called 'experts' who feel they know it all and have zero patience for beginners. When you ask them questions, they give curt replies and feel you're wasting their time. To these ones i say "na you sabi " . We are all learners in this life and na person wey dey 6ft under don learn finish.
3. Nosy/Lazy Neighbours : na them be that! They see you going through all the stress, rigor and ardor of farming and dey will siddon dey look you . Harvest period go reach, you will see them hailing you and asking for some of your produce . Anyways, we rise by lifting others so once in a while, give them small. A wise man once told me, ' when you plant, include the lazy people and the thief in your planting'
Despite the challenges, farming is one of the noble professions and it really is fun and therapeutic working in/on the farm.
Once again, stay tuned for more! I can relate with the number 1 for some types of hybrid tomatoes. I have been trying to get seeds for awhile now. But having to get it in more than 5g is not encouraging when it's just for my small garden. I probably will just be nursing 5 seedlings per pepper, tomatoes, Cucumber , sweet pepper...onions can be more. |

Does anyone has helpful information about that or should I switch to the Ikoyi Registry? Thanks, I will also appreciate any other information regarding marriage registry that is available. Oyo state has their registry though you might not find the details online. It's better you ask someone to go in person to make enquiries at your preferred local government area. |
