Politics › Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Ticket Can’t Give ADC Numbers – NWC Member, Oladimeji by TimeManager(op): 2:18pm On Apr 28 |
Deputy National Financial Secretary of the David Mark-led National Working Committee, NWC, of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Fabiyi Oladimeji, has dismissed the viability of the Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s presidential ticket.
Oladimeji said only the presidential ticket of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Obi would give the ADC the required numbers in 2027.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Fabiyi noted that the voting strength demonstrated in the 2023 general election shows that an Obi/Kwankwaso pairing would fall short of the numbers required to defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Even Kwankwaso and Obi cannot give us the number, I am sorry to say this. The best number is Atiku and Obi.
“The total votes for the three of them were about 14 to 15 million, while the President got about eight million. If these forces come together, Nigerians will see the difference.
“Atiku has said he will support whoever emerges. Amaechi has said the same thing. We are expecting Peter Obi to also make that commitment because this is not about personal ambition; it is about rescuing the country,” he said. https://dailypost.ng/2026/04/28/peter-obi-kwankwaso-ticket-cant-give-adc-numbers-nwc-member-oladimeji/

Coolbite: When we say common sense is far from being common, this is an example. 24 hours electricity with prepaid metre is all that is needed. The prepaid put you in control of your power consumption. All over the word, wherever there is 24 hours electricity supply, people control its usage. They know that there is direct connection between the bill and consumption. But in Nigeria, there is no correlation between what is consumed and the monthly bill for those on post-paid metre. But in Nigeria?, Are you not aware people now use prepaid in Nigeria, or are you a Sudanese?. -Kiss the truth! |

I applaud the President for decentralizing power. Also, I commend him for upgrading the old weak and near-collapsed national grid, installing power substations to strengthen the transmission capacity. I also commend him for installing solar power in federal institutions and federal hospitals, taking them off the weak national grid, thereby reducing the load for better transmission to residential homes.

Previously; N65bn Realised as First Lady Launches National Community Food Bank Programmehttps://www.thisdaylive.com/2026/04/03/n65bn-realised-as-first-lady-launches-national-community-food-bank-programme/Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday unveiled the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-East, describing the initiative as a major step towards addressing hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity in the region and across Nigeria.
Mrs Tinubu launched the programme in Maiduguri during an official visit to Borno State , where she said the intervention would provide critical nutritional support to vulnerable groups, particularly children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and economically disadvantaged households.
“It is a great honour and privilege to be here,” the First Lady said at the event. “I have the honour to commission the National Community Food Bank Programme in the North-East to the glory of God.”
The initiative is a flagship national intervention aimed at combating malnutrition and improving food security, especially among the most vulnerable segments of society.
It targets malnourished children under six, pregnant and lactating women, orphans, vulnerable children, and households facing severe nutritional and economic challenges.
The programme was formally launched earlier this month in Abuja, where it attracted pledges exceeding N66 billion from the Federal Government, corporate organisations, and private donors.
Speaking at the inauguration of the programme’s Board of Trustees, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed that the private sector had demonstrated strong support for the initiative.
According to him, the Aliko Dangote Foundation pledged N20 billion in-kind support over five years, while the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited committed N10 billion over the same period.
Other contributions include N500 million from the Emeka Offor Foundation and an anonymous donation of $500,000 from friends of the First Lady.
Prof. Pate also announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved a special intervention fund of N17 billion through the Social Action Fund to support the programme.
Designed as a grassroots intervention, the National Community Food Bank Programme will establish community-based food banks in all 774 local government areas across the country.
These centres will be linked to primary healthcare facilities supported under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund and implemented in partnership with the Bank of Agriculture.
Under the scheme, nutritious and locally sourced food will be distributed through a voucher system, ensuring that support reaches intended beneficiaries efficiently and transparently.
Beyond immediate relief, the initiative is expected to strengthen local food systems, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and provide sustainable support to vulnerable communities, particularly in conflict-affected regions such as the North-East. https://thenationonlineng.net/first-lady-remi-tinubu-inaugurate-northeast-food-bank-to-fight-malnutrition/

Your Governors can now generate and distribute power to you, do not just sit down shouting Tinubu's name, call out your Governors too. Moreso, It's a good thing LASG is inviting three power generation companies, it would surely drive competition and quality service delivery. I learnt the price of electricity in Abia is off the roof. Gov Otti should take the monopoly away from Geometric and issue licences to other power generation companies to drive competitive pricing.

Politics › FG Raises Allowances, Boosts Welfare For Nigerian Civil Servants by TimeManager(op): 5:21pm On Apr 24 |
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a sweeping increase in peculiar allowances and other welfare benefits for civil servants, in a move aimed at improving take-home pay and boosting morale across the public service.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, during a press briefing in Abuja, where she outlined key reforms endorsed by the Federal Executive Council.
According to Walson-Jack, the review affects workers under both the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), ensuring a broad-based impact across all cadres.
She said the revised peculiar allowances have been structured to reflect across all grade levels, resulting in a meaningful increase in earnings for both junior and senior officers.
In addition, the government approved an upward review of several key allowances, including duty tour allowance (DTA), estacode, and book allowance.
Walson-Jack noted that virtually all allowances listed under the Public Service Rules have now been revised.
A major highlight of the reform is the approval of 100 percent Duty Tour Allowance for civil servants attending approved training programmes, regardless of whether travel is involved.
“Even if you are based in Abuja and attend training within Abuja, you are entitled to full DTA,” she said.
Beyond salary-related adjustments, the government also introduced a new exit benefit scheme for retiring civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The scheme provides 100 percent of a retiree’s total annual emoluments as an exit package, in addition to their pension, effective January 1, 2026.
Walson-Jack described the move as a step toward ensuring dignity in retirement, stressing that no public servant should leave service without adequate financial support.
The government also confirmed the operationalisation of the Employee Compensation Scheme, designed to provide financial protection for workers who suffer job-related injuries or death.
The reforms come amid growing calls from labour unions for improved welfare, as rising living costs continue to put pressure on workers. Analysts say the combined measures could significantly enhance financial stability for civil servants and improve overall productivity in the public sector. https://punchng.com/fg-raises-allowances-boosts-welfare-for-civil-servants/

The Federal Government has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme aimed at improving access to home ownership for civil servants, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced on Friday in Abuja.
Speaking during an ongoing press briefing, Walson-Jack said the initiative would be implemented through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board.
According to her, the scheme is designed to enhance stability and productivity within the civil service by enabling workers to own homes.
“The Federal Government has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme to improve access to home ownership for civil servants. This loan will be facilitated through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board,” she said.
She emphasised the broader impact of home ownership on worker morale and efficiency, noting that secure housing can significantly influence performance.
“There is a saying that a person who owns their own home stands differently. When a civil servant knows that their family has a place they can call their own, they come to work with a different swagger — with more stability, more focus and more purpose,” Walson-Jack added.
Describing the initiative as part of a wider reform agenda, the Head of Service said the housing scheme goes beyond welfare and reflects the administration’s governing philosophy.
“What you are witnessing is not simply a welfare package; it is a philosophy. It is the operating belief of this administration that a well-supported civil servant is a more effective civil servant, and a more effective civil service delivers a stronger Nigeria,” she said.
Walson-Jack further highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise the public service, including a transition toward a more digital and efficient system.
“We are simultaneously building the civil service of tomorrow — a service that is digital and paperless, efficient and transparent, accountable and innovation-driven,” she stated.
She reaffirmed her commitment to improving the capacity and welfare of civil servants across the country.
“As Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, I am committed to ensuring that every civil servant earns better and grows better — with the skills, tools and institutional support to reach their full potential,” she said.
The Head of Service also underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving the reforms being celebrated.
“The achievements we are celebrating today did not come through the effort of a single institution. They are the product of deliberate, sustained collaboration across ministries, extra-ministerial departments and agencies,” she explained.
She listed key government institutions involved in the collaborative effort, including the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Budget Office of the Federation, and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
“This is the power of collaboration across government — not working in silos, but institutions working in concert, each contributing its statutory mandate towards a shared national purpose,” Walson-Jack said.
She called on all ministries, departments and agencies to sustain the collaborative momentum across all aspects of governance.
“I call on every MDA to carry this spirit of collaboration forward — beyond welfare, into service delivery, policy implementation, and every area where whole-of-government action can make a difference for Nigeria,” she urged.
Looking ahead to Workers’ Day on May 1, Walson-Jack said this year’s commemoration would hold special significance for Nigerian civil servants.
“For the first time in a long time, civil servants can point to concrete, contemporaneous evidence that their contributions are valued at the highest levels,” she said.
She noted that Workers’ Day is not only a time to reflect on past struggles but also an opportunity to renew commitments to workers’ welfare.
“Workers’ Day is not just about remembering the struggles of the past; it is about renewing the promise for the future — that those who serve this nation will be treated with justice, fairness and gratitude,” she said.
Walson-Jack praised civil servants for their dedication and resilience, acknowledging their contributions despite challenging conditions
“To every civil servant, this is your time, your moment, your season of recognition, reward and renewed purpose. The sacrifices you have made the long hours, the professionalism exercised even in difficult circumstances have not been invisible,” she added. https://punchng.com/fg-approves-₦10bn-housing-loan-scheme-for-civil-servants/

First, he decentralized the School of Aviation in each geopolitical zone, decentralized Army Depot in each geopolitical zone and now, Police Academy will be decentralized in each region as well. It's very likely he decentralizes the Defense Academy anytime soon. He has already created Development Commission in each region, he has decentralized electricity, he is about to create state police and give the country a new constitution. Tinubu is an enigma, he dares where others cannot, made of balls of steel. Is it Peter Obi?, he will be too scared to make these kind of decisions, someone that cannot even look Atiku in the eye. President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a special take-off grant of N15bn to fund the facility’s development.
A statement signed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the approval fulfils the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which empowers the institution to operate as a multi-campus university across the country.
“The intervention fund will be sourced from TETFund’s 2026 allocation and will finance priority infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training assets at the new campus,” the statement read.
According to Onanuga, the siting of the new campus in Erinja was recommended by a high-level consultative meeting that brought together the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector General of Police and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.
The meeting weighed student intake capacity, funding realities, academic quality assurance and the long-term training needs of the Nigerian Police Force, which is currently in the process of expanding its workforce through fresh recruitment.
The Presidency said Tinubu believes the expansion will “strengthen institutional governance, modern policing education and national security.”
The Nigeria Police Academy had operated only a single campus in Wudil, Kano State.
Section 3 of the Police Act empowers the Academy, under the oversight of its Governing Council, to “establish such campuses, colleges, faculties, institutions, schools and units within the Academy as may be necessary or desirable, subject to the approval of the National Universities Commission.”
In June 2025, the House of Representatives called for the decentralisation of the Academy’s operations, urging Tinubu and the Governing Council to give effect to the 2021 Act by establishing campuses in each of the country’s six geopolitical zones.
The Academy, which officially took off in 1988 at two temporary campuses—the Police Training School in Challawa, Kano and the Police College in Kaduna—was merged and relocated to its permanent site in Wudil in 1996, and was upgraded to a degree-awarding institution by the NUC in 2012, becoming Nigeria’s 37th federal university.
It currently offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in law enforcement and related disciplines, including law, sciences, social and management sciences, and humanities.
The new Ogun State campus will be the first satellite campus established under the 2021 Act. https://punchng.com/tinubu-approves-new-police-academy-campus-in-ogun-n15bn-take-off-grant/
