Education › Re: The Origin Of The Word Oyibo by timilehing(m): 2:42pm On Aug 09, 2014
pazienza: Hope you are not from Orumba/Aguata areas. Because linguistically speaking those areas of Anambra are closer to Imo and Abia areas, than they are to the Awka-Onicha-Idemili-Ayamelum- Anaocha-Njikoka-Dunkofia- Oyi-Ogbaru dialects cluster.

Cos, i am well aware that in Umunze, an Orumba town, Europe is 'Ala beeke' just as land is 'Ala'.
Aguata it is. Ezinifite

Education › Re: The Origin Of The Word Oyibo by timilehing(m): 2:16pm On Aug 09, 2014
pazienza: Lol! It's either you are not Igbo at all, or if you are Igbo, you are from southern Igboland(Abia and Imo), for i have already seen some of my southern Igbo peeps saying that the word 'Oyibo' doesn't sound Igbo, and i understand that what they mean by 'Igbo' in this context is their southern dialects, much of which became incorporated into central Igbo, and which is part of the reason why men like Achebe refused to use central Igbo in his writings, reason being that it is too biased and leans more to southern Igbo dialects.

Believe it or not, 'Oyibo' in my part of Igboland is an Igbo word, we have families with 'Oyibo' as surnames, with the Oyibo being an abridged versions of long names like 'Oyiboanugo', oso OYIBO, etc.

So, young man, don't stay in your part of Igboland, and dictate for other Igbos, what is and what isn't an Igbo word, using your own dialect as a standard.
Now you're talking sense but FYI, esim na anambra

fearlessigboman: Guy, u no get sense at all...
if u read wat the Op said. oyibo in Igbo means white person (asin western people nt any fair guy)... how on earth will u ask someone "do u speak white man" huh? Bekee means english.. even if sef.. they hav words that's av two diff spelling but mean the same tin .. like nine (9) can be called iteghite or itoolu
Get ur facts right before quoting me again bro
iwu ndi ara maka dat. was there any insult in my post?? Go back to akwukwo &learn ur asusu igbo wella. The Britons were are also called English till now just like calling a France man a french which is also there language. Igbo called light-skinned ppl "ocha" as in nwayi ocha meaning fair lady. Oyibo is never a word originated from Igbo. Ask any Nigerian indigenous language linguistics.
Learn phrase combination in Igbo before you quote me again. Ofeke

Its simple, follow this
IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

After several hours in research laboratory, our team of Virologists have been able to come out with a prevention method for EVD (Ebola Virus Disease). West African locally made palm oil is the substance containing this magic prevention.

Before you sleep tonight, endeavor to rub Palm oil on your body. It is the only known protection for Ebola virus Disease. Do the same likewise before taking your bath tomorrow morning and any time you feel suspicious of infection.

Drinking 3-4 teaspoons also limits the virus spreading inside the body.

Pvin: it is also coined from Igbo. A short form of Ogaranya(a big man who calls the shut)
the "oga" in that ogaranya is (do-do) while d real "oga" is (do-mi)..

Ndi Igbos na Nairaland, your claim of superiority is getting outta hand. Be a good followers &u'll learn a lot. Una aghota??
Education › Re: The Origin Of The Word Oyibo by timilehing(m): 10:00pm On Aug 08, 2014
EMMABC1: Yes we know that d words u listed above originate frm yoruba. However we have our equivalent of those words which are popular too. In Igbo Oya is Ngwa, Ashewo is akwuna or onye akwuna, abi and shey mean okwa ya. See, my people are open-minded and progressives. He is right about Oga which is derived frm ogaranga ( a big man who calls the shot). If u dispute it, then tell us your own.
When u ve those words na asusu igbo, i wonder y u ppl neglected it for d Yoruba words. Ofeke
