For those who hold on to the teachings from the monastery, seminaries etc and end up becoming revered fathers, do you argue that they do not know about God or freedom in Christ? Or that they do not know the power of God? Dtruthspeaker: You are still proving my answer right. A Monastery is not the right place and Way to teach children.
A monastery is a type of prison and prisons are not places to teach children about freedom and goodness and The Power of God! |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do So Many Born Into Godly Homes Turn To Become Atheists? by Timoleon(m): 10:35am On Jan 23, 2022 |
Not necessarily so. A lot of people who didn’t even grow up with their parents but rather in a monastery trained by reverend fathers and sisters still end up questioning the whole institution and what they preach. It’s the one very thing that sepeeates from animals. Our ability to question what we have bee taught to believe in as an unshakable truth. Dtruthspeaker: True!
But that is because even the parents did not get it Right with God. Their way was not better, right and success filled, so there is no way a child will reasonably follow them.
It is a Law, people follow those who know "the way". L |

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do So Many Born Into Godly Homes Turn To Become Atheists? by Timoleon(m): 6:57am On Jan 23, 2022 |
Because the Bible verse which says “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he would not depart from it” does not fully capture real life. In reality when you train up a child you only train up a child in the way you think they should go wether in a Christian way, godly way abi religious way-whatever. When they grow, they are able (for most adults) to discern and decide which way to go which in many cases is a realization that many of the things they learnt as kids aren’t real or aren’t logical enough for an adult to hold on to.
In that vein, many who were very active in church as kids, Sunday school, choir, midweek service etc get to a point where they feel that with the current trajectory of the world, with the present state of human existence it cannot be justified that ‘God’ is in control. If at all he is, which of the thousands of God’s are we referring to? Then many of them decide to just remove their hand patapata. |

Nigeria has now become a place where the only person you can truly trust is yourself. Adults are constantly having to watch over their shoulders and kids are at the mercy of evil doers and their machinations. It’s hard to accept this kind of loss. May God grant the child eternal rest and hopefully Justice truly takes it’s course that the parents may find some form of closure (this is a heart break that cannot heal completely though). |

Go and research before you quote me abeg. If you’ll engage me, be informed please if not leave me to my ignorant ways. No be by force to quote person. gentlegenius: How many of them became rich because of what they studied in school? The truth is that many of those rich people became rich when they were not yet graduates (Dangote, Alakija etc). This mean that Formal Education obtained from school is overrated, outdated and is even pursued just for the honors and to align with societal paradigm. Education is still the KEY, but school is the LOCK. There are many ways, and many places to get education, not only the school. In fact, school offers academics, not education. I came to this conclusion after discovering the real meaning of EDUCATION. Many people pursue schools but sadly, the education that can make one rich and successful in this 21st century is not gotten from school. Dangote was already educated in the field of business even before he went to school to seek academic honors. I'm talking about tertiary schools here. Fulorunsho Alakija is still not a graduate of any school the last time I checked. She's the richest and maybe, the most successful woman in Africa. I am a graduate of one of the Federal Tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Concerning the topic, I will choose a non graduate lady over a graduate. I took this decision when I was still in school based on what I observed there. The reason why I reinforce this decision is not far from what I explained above... School graduation is overrated. Self development is what makes one educated not the schools. |

Just as there are many graduates who are jobless, are there many non educated people constituting nuisances to themselves and society? Peace be unto you. Kaymicheal852: One of the best,if not the best heritage you can give your love ones is education ,but don’t forget education doesn’t guarantee success as well
Thousands of graduates are unemployed and even a job of 50k-100k even 150-200k doesn’t guarantee success at all in this kind of economy

Every graduate can’t be in the top ten because it is just slot for ten people. The same way the uneducated tomato seller does not have or earn the same money with the uneducated bus driver. There are many other factors to determine how far each person goes. The more factors you have in your favor, the further you go. southpole: Is most likely that those top ten richest people did not used what they learned from school to become rich, if it were so every graduate could have also be a top rich person. |

I think you are the one making the assumption that those who are into business aren’t graduates. You mentioned Folorunso Alakija, she started her nursery schooling at Our Ladies of Apostles, Lagos from 1955 to 1958, and at the age of seven, she travelled to the United Kingdom to attend Dinorben School for Girls in Harfodunos Hall, Llangernyw, Wales. She returned to Nigeria in 1963 for her secondary education in Sagamu, Ogun state before returning again to London for her Secretarial studies at Pitman’s Central College. At the time, it was quite commonplace for females to opt to study along the secretarial lines, Tourism and hospitality or Fashion designing. In addition to her Secretarial studies, Folorunsho went to the American College, London and the Central School of Fashion for a degree in Fashion Designing. The Bishop you talk about, studied architecture at the Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin. He also received a PhD in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii, US. Dahiru Mangal attended Kastina Arabic Teachers' College for Higher Islamic Certificate, graduating in 1976. If you know your history well, you’ll know that graduating from a teachers College used to be a big deal back in the days. The mistake that people like you make is to assume that everyone who do not do corporate jobs are not graduates forgetting that a lot of people graduate and venture into business. Education is one of those things that gives the top dogs the edge. Awoleesu: Some of the names I dropped here made it to the "official" ten top... Others are indeed De facto among the tops...
Need examples?
Folorunsho Alakija (De jure)
Dahiru Mangal (De facto)
And why I think you missed it? Attempting to draw a connexion between formal (higher) education and material wealth results in a big farce!
Go and see your bankers with Masters degree virtually worshiping the non-graduate and even illiterate billionaires to help their cabal and save their jobs!
Go check your PhD guys jostling for appointment in a university run by a Bishop with a mere National Diploma to boast for his academic achievement!
I don't intend to demean a higher education, but be it known to you that it doesn't translate to being on top of the world! With or without it, people can make wealth.
Those who made your much celebrated top 10 list, do you think it is their higher education that got them there? Dangote got his business acumen from his not-western-literate granddad, Tony Elumelu got his from his petty trader, not too literate Mom... So, you figure it out!

I can bet that the richest person below 40 in your community is not a footballer. No footballer living in any community in Nigeria can boast of 50 million Naira. You can quote me anywhere. And as for fraudsters, that’s obviously illegal and is never something that can be sustained or defended. Meanwhile, for every hush puppy, there are hundreds of thousands of struggling yahoo boys that have never received even $25 iTunes before. For the artists that you talk about, we are not new to their flashy lifestyle on social media but one small kidney disease or one small fall out with their record labels, you hear that the artist is broke and in need of public support. You hear the record label has taken their car, clothes house and withdrawn the 30-30,000 they were giving the artiste. For every wiz kid, there are millions of musicians who will never be called to sing at morning devotion let alone be paid to perform at a show. For every victor Osimhen, there are millions of footballers who will never become professionals. Eventually people in the community will begin to advice them at old age to go and find work. Do what suits you bro. Kaymicheal852: Check the richest people below 40 years ,they are mostly footballers and artists and even fraudsters and entrepreneur

As much as I do understand the message you are trying to pass, please avoid putting up stats if you won’t put up factual figures or at least copy the reference correctly. Nigeria’s total population is estimated at about 209 million. I wonder where you found your almost 200 million unfortunate graduates. Secondly, the document you are supposedly getting your info from estimates the Nigerian labour force to over 80million and not 35 million. To put things into more perspective, the same document puts the BA/Bsc/Bed/Hnd demography as having the least unemployed percentage of 19% which is contrary to your claim that people without tertiary education are doin better. Never attended school? 36% unemployed, below primary school? 26.6% unemployed, primary school? 31% unemployed, junior secondary school? 31% unemployed, vocational and commercial? 26% unemployed, Senior Secondary school? 25% unemployed. None of these support your claim that non graduates are doing better than graduates. What you could however argue is that a person does not have to be a graduate to make it in life. Also for the most part of it, what we call employment in this part of the world for majority of the labour force is tantamount to slavery. The minimum wage is still 30k/month and for secondary school leavers and lower, majority earn far below the minimum wage and this puts your concept of “gainfully employed “ into question. thesicilian: Yeah, focus on the top ten who got their wealth not because of their university degrees, but because of their business acumen, while you conveniently ignore the almost 200 million others who are not so fortunate...
According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, 22.5 million of the 35.5 million in the labor force did not receive a tertiary education, while 6.29 million never attended school. Not just that, they also found out that SSCE holders are the most employed in the country, with an impressive 13.2 million gainfully employed.
