Op, would you be saying this crap is the president was igbo and he appointed mostly eastern extracts?

You tell me of credentials and mention the north..who has the lowest eduction ratio in nigeria? Who has highest illiteracy in the country?..how come when it comes to credentials, they're suddenly most qualified?

By your logic; the south west should have highest number of appointments in nigeria cos they have highest number of professors followed by the Southeast
Please copy and paste the portfolio of the appointees here and let's argue on that basis.

Thanks.

A lot of media buzz has been made after the latest list of Buhari's appointees was released.
The buzz was created and is still being sustained based on the belief that the president appoints people from the North and a tad bit from the South-West ignoring all other parts of the country.

My view of the whole 'thing' is that if Nigeria was a sane(r) nation, it wouldn't be so much of an issue because while the buzz is on, people have ignored the most important issue of all - the credentials of the candidates.

If Nigeria was to be in any way a saner nation than it is, the credentials of the candidates would have been the first on the list of things to be scrutinized but being the insane nation it is, that matters least.

Of all criticisms of the appointees, none has questioned the credentials of the candidates and I am very sure that majority of the buzz creators do not even know the credentials of the candidates nor do they care to know.

The only ground that would be sane to judge any and all the appointees should be their credentials and track record of achievement(s) and not what they can't control such as their ethnicity.

Meet the talented rising star that is Simi. Her work ethic, experience, and song releases so far make her someone to watch in the years to come. Read the full interview below:

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Simisola Ogunleye, more commonly known as SIMI. I’m an Afro-Pop singer and I’m also a professional Songwriter and Sound Engineer.

How was it like growing up?

Growing up was fun. I was kind of a tomboy because I was the only girl with three older brothers. I didn’t have too much music in my background; my parents and siblings weren’t very big on music, although my eldest brother used to teach me songs from his school.

When did you start music?

Professionally, music started for me in 2008 when I released my gospel album “Ogaju”. That album was produced entirely by Samklef. It had songs like “Ara ile” and “Ogaju”. Before then, I was in a group called “Outstanding”, and my time in that group were some of my most formative years in music.

Your greatest inspiration?

God is my greatest inspiration.

You have a deal with X3M Music, an award nomination and your song “JAMB Question” is making waves already. What does that mean to you?

It means the world. It also reminds me that I have so much more to achieve and many more challenges to conquer. Every day I am thankful. I have had so many years of growth and learning. I still have so much to learn and do – but I’m very grateful to God and the beautiful SIMI ARMY for the things I’ve been able to achieve and access.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

To be honest, I don’t really have limits in my head with regards to time. In five years, I see myself living my dreams in the biggest way possible and in the best of my capacities. And the thing is, my dreams right now might seem too small in five years’ time. So, no limits.

What inspires your unique style?

I want people to listen to me and never mistake me for someone else. I don’t want to be second best to anyone in my niche. This definitely drives me to stand out.

There are lots of African artists whose talent might never be revealed, what do you think is the reason behind this?

I have no idea! I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I do believe that if you are gifted and you really love the art, put your everything into it – your time will come.

African artistes (established) have complained about being side-lined in the international scene; in your opinion, why does this happen and what can be done to stop it?

It probably happens because it’s been happening for a while without repercussions, and they got comfortable. I think if we, as artists, stand together and remain firm, it will change. Change is gradual though, so we also have to admit that African music is getting way more recognition than it did in the past.

Any honest advice for upcoming artists in Africa?

Work hard!

The past few weeks must surely be one of the worst moments in the political career of former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola following several accusations of corruption that apparently came from 'no where'.

Millions, in their tens and hundreds were allegedly diverted by Fashola (or during his administration and with his consent) mostly through 'bloated' costs. One of such allegations is the 78 million Naira ($392,000) allegedly used for the setting up/upgrade of his official website.

So far, the general view is that the explanation he (Fashola) has given regarding the allegations levelled against him are unsastisfactory and almost (if not) point to the fact that the allegations are be true.

Without ignoring the possibility of his guilt however, I would love to state that if Fashola was corrupt, then all Nigerian leaders should follow his style of corruption (yes, the supposed irony of the statement is well intended).

If Fashola was corrupt when in power yet under his tenure, Lagos State Government could almost (if not totally) single-handedly combat the Ebola virus spread, then all Nigerian leaders (governors, legislators and the president) should all be Fashola-Corrupt. Nigeria could use Fashola-corrupt leaders to stregthen the health sector where millions do not have fast and efficient medical services.

If Fashola was corrupt and yet Lagos State witnessed some of it's greatest infrastructural growth during his tenure, then all governors should learn corruption from Fashola and become Fashola-corrupt as most Nigerian governors hardly leave any meaningful infrastructural traces after they leave office.

Taxing systems, emergency aid systems, school building and funding - these and a lot more 'corrupt' Fashola made to function in Lagos state. He unarguably made us realize the power of state governments as opposed to the mum-toddler relationship that has always existed between the Federal Government and State Governments.

If he was corrupt and yet made all that happen, then let his style of corruption be learnt by all.
