PoliticsFani-kayode Slam Tinubu For Saying Lekki Protesters Have Questions To Answer by timstone(op): 3:10am On Oct 26, 2020
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani -Kayode , has slammed All Progressives Congress stalwart , Bola Tinubu , for saying the protesters who came under heavy gunfire from soldiers had questions to answer.
Fani -Kayode said this in a Facebook post on Sunday.
The former minister said it was disappointing that Tinubu , who is a former Governor of Lagos State , would seek to shift the blame on the victim rather than the attackers .
He wrote , “Sadly , instead of exhibiting any remorse or displaying any regret for this abominable atrocity , with a sheepish smile and a sneering and jocular tone , you had the sheer nerve and effrontery to say nothing other than that you are still the Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban ?
“Yet , what was even worse than this and what shocked and astounded all right -thinking people all the more was that you had the temerity to go on even further to say that the ‘ casualties at the Lekki shooting have some questions to answer!’
“You then asked , ‘ how are they there ?’ “how long were they there ?’ And “what kind of characters were they?”
“How cruel can you be ? Not a word of condolence or expression of commiseration to the families of the dead but instead you offered stupid questions and baseless accusations against their wards and children. ”
Fani -Kayode recalled that when the daughter of Afenifere chieftain , Reuben Fasoranti , was killed last year , rather than condemn the alleged perpetrators , Tinubu decided to defend herdsmen who had been accused of perpetrating the act .
He said he regretted supporting Tinubu in the past.

The former minister described Tinubu as one blinded by ambition and was ready to compromise anything to get it.
Fani -Kayode wrote , “ You only harbour love , which borders on obsession , for your vain and lofty ambition to rule Nigeria and trust me when I tell you that this will never happen. ”https://punchng.com/fani-kayode-slams-tinubu-for-saying-lekki-protesters-have-questions-to-answer/

Best way to go...I think the youths should deploy this approach..do not allow them arrest or extort people for fine...the police here in Rumokoro port Harcourt are so irritating.
They hand around the place till the middle of the night collecting money from taxi drivers..
Taxi drivers here in Rumokoro are really suffering, after loading #50 per passenger, police will take their own different set of agberos will take their own and the driver will be left with hundred naira..they only recover if a passenger drops along and they are lucky to get another passenger..I really feel for those taxi drivers at Rumokoro..
The driver need to come out and fight this nonsence,
One thing I observed if the driver is trying to stand his ground,we passenger will say give him let's go,I'm late,is it not only #100

Why is SSANU, NASU, Polytechnic staff, etc kicking against IPPIS?
Take note, those I mentioned are already on IPPIS!
What ever they are getting now cannot be compare to what they were getting before they join IPPIS

Besides,IPPIS deceived them, this are some of the things ASUU saw before this time, that's the reason they refuse to join.

Other unions are regretting now.

Thanks for clarifying. Your points have provided further context into the issues. Believe it or not, I'm not an insider...I'm have never worked for the govt or any govt affiliated institution. Anyways..thanks once again for the civility in your response....a rarity on NL which is why i don't bother commenting here much.

One more question though, if you can shed some light. Since these issues are mostly administrative, why are the Vice Chancellors and Governing councils not involved in this fight with the FG. ASUU should rightly be pushing from a position of it affecting their take home pay...but I expect the association of VCs if there is one to be the ones pushing the issues around visiting lecturers, sabbatical, limits on recruitment etc. It appears they've taken a back sit.
VCS and governing council, are there on appointment or election

Maersk Refutes Claims that Onitsha Inland Port is Fully Operational
By Journalist101 - October 7, 20200

Maersk shipping company has responded to the news making rounds in the social media, insinuating it has commenced a full shipping operation at Onitsha Inland Port.

The news broke out early Wednesday morning as a pic of the dockyard being commissioned, and shipment schedule from Maersk showing China – Onitsha destination surfaced online.

“We took a walk at the Onitsha pilot port after it was commissioned today. The port is at its full function. Such a pleasant sight! Congrats to the importers,” a Twitter user wrote.

Series of tweets praising the development followed, as many others joined the preaching.

“So Onitsha Port was commissioned yesterday & you can now send a container from China to Onitsha without going through Lagos? And some of have been using it for months but kept quiet? Why do people refuse to talk when good things happen in Nigeria,” Dr. Joe Abah wrote.

However, in response to inquiry about their operations in Onitsha Inland Port, Maersk said in an email response to Tekedia that the news has been inaccurate.

“There are some inaccurate news reports going around as we are not calling at Onitsha port with our vessels as this is not operationally feasible due to the draft of our vessels.

“We do however offer a through bill product for our customers in which cargo discharged at Onne is trucked to the Clarion Depot in Onitsha, which is roughly opposite the Niger River,” Kerry Rosser, Maersk Africa Communication Manager told Tekedia.

The Onitsha Inland Port was rehabilitated and commissioned in 2012, in view to accommodate vessels and ease Lagos Ports of congestion. But the port is yet to commence full operation since then.

Last month, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) said the commencement of shipping operations is targeted at the first quarter of 2021. NIWA’s Area Manager at Onitsha Area Office, Mrs. Queen Uba said operations at the port have been on hold due to the ongoing concession process, but NIWA is ready for its operations as soon as the process is complete.

“NIWA has put in place all necessary things for effective operation of the port and we are just waiting for the completion of the concession process. While we are waiting for the completion of the concession process, the management has entered into agreement with Connect rail Services Limited to kick start the lifting of goods from the port to other places in the country,” she said.

Onitsha Inland Port was built under the administration of President Shehu Shagari in 1983 and since then, it has been lying fallow and completely under-utilized until 2012 when it was rehabilitated and commissioned by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

It is hoped that NIWA will live up to the challenge and facilitate shipping operations in the port that will spur its activities beyond a clarion depot for trucking cargoes.

I always recommend this three varieties for farmers TMS 0289, TMS 0581 and white lion. TMS 0289 is very strong and do bear very well, the starch content range from 14 to 18. TMS 0581 very easy to manage, if you do your First and second spraying very well you will not need any weeding till harvest, starch content range from 13 to 18. White lion, after first and second spraying you will still need to weed it one or two time before harvest, starch content range from 16 to 21 which is why people like it (those that sells for company)

PPIS: Poly workers issue 21-day ultimatum to FG
Published October 6, 2020
Labour Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige

Adelani Adepegba, Abuja
Senior Staff of Nigerian Polytechnics on Tuesday issued a 21-day ultimatum to embark on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to address lingering issues associated with the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.
This is coming 24 hours after the Senior Staff of Association of Nigeria Universities and Non-Academic Staff Union commenced a 14-day warning strike in protest against the IPPIS and the delay by the government in the re-negotiation of the 2009 SSANU/Federal Government Agreement.
Rising from an emergency meeting in Abuja, the polytechnic workers, under the auspices of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics expressed displeasure with the way the National Board for Technical Education had handled the scheme of service.
In a communique read to journalists at the end of the meeting, the National President of SSANIP, Philip Ogunsipe, said the workers’ grievances include the non-release of the new minimum wage arrears, inconsistencies in the release of third-party deductions, non-payment of COVID-19 hazard allowance for health workers, high draconian tax regime on consolidated salary, delay in promotion arrears, among others.
Ogunsipe said, “Against this backdrop, the council wishes to call on the relevant agencies of government to expedite actions toward resolving these highlighted challenges.

“Equally, the council wishes to frankly state that failure of the IPPIS to address these highlighted challenges within 21 days from the date of this communique would leave the union with no other option than to review its stance on IPPIS.”
Commenting on the alleged poor handling of the scheme of service by the NBTE, the union leader accused the board of reviewing the document “without due consultation with relevant stakeholders.”
He added, “On the strength of this, the council resolved that any attempt to foist a scheme of service document on SSANIP without our input is unacceptable and therefore, would be an invitation to an atmosphere of disharmony.
“The council wishes to specifically and frankly state that the failure of NBTE to address this issue within 21 days from the date of this communique would leave the union with no other option than to declare industrial dispute.”

ASUU to Education Minister: Resign to start farming
Posted by Abiolapaul on October 6, 2020 at 7:35pm
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has told Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba to resign “and take to farming as a worthy national service.”
ASUU was reacting to the Minister’s advice to striking lecturers to consider farming during an interview, insisting they cannot dictate how they should be paid to their employers.
ASUU said Nwajiuba’s statement is a reflection of his shallow understanding of the academic profession and the low premium the government the Minister is serving places on education.
ASUU Chairman University of Ibadan, Professor Ayo Akinwole, said the Minister of State has “displayed his naivety on educational matters”.
According to Akinwole, the scarcity of farmers is a reflection of the failure of government to make farming secured for legitimate farmers.
He said lecturers decided to continue to fight parasites like Nwajiuba, who preside over a Ministry where no Nigerian university is ranked among the first 100 in the world.
Akinwole stated if the President Muhammadu Buhari government is not paying lip service to education, he would not have consistently reduced budgetary allocation and funding to the sector since assumption of office.
He added public varsity lecturers are owed earned academic allowances from 2013 to date, challenging the Minister of State for Education to declare if he has been owed allowances and how much since he assumed office.
He maintained that available statistics show salaries of university lecturers are below what is paid to academics in Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
According to him: “If the Minister of State for Education is interested in farming, he should resign his appointment and stop displaying his cluelessness of the problems in the education sector.
“We are on a just fight to ensure that those in public offices become responsive and responsible to the masses they swore to serve.
“They must fund public education. We have been on the same salary since 2009. That is no longer sustainable.
“The universities are being run with personal sweats of lecturers while politicians siphon monies for personal aggrandizement.
“We cannot accept IPPIS that is against the laws of the land and which fails to recognise the uniqueness of academic profession and culture.
“We have brought an alternative using our members’ money. People like this Minister of State mirror the disdain of ruling class for the workers and people of the country.”

sinkhole:
what you said is just where my problem is:
ASUU does not manage salary or any payment in the Universities;
SSANU and NASU manages payment in the Universities and both of them are comfortably on IPPIS!
If a lecturer dies and his/her salary is paid, ASUU will never know but SSANU and NASU will know.
Who told you they are comfortable with IPPIS
The system frustrate all union
if ASUU call of their strike today
other union will continue theirs
IPPIS told them all will be well, that's the reason they join.It was only ASUU that saw the future.

They Claim It Nt Transparent And Yet They Wont Gve A Good Reason Why.. I Guess All Dey Want Is For ASUU To Control D Salaries Of Lecurers, They Just Want To Collect Money From Fg Nd Spend Like They Wish To
The problem with IPPIS, allowance have not been given to staff
Example, since the inception of IPPIS technologist have not been paid their hazard allowance,IPPIS purposely cut off all allowances, the minimum wage not reflecting.

This halleluyah will only make sense for other institutions not under ASUU. Those who will be affected by ASUU strike will still have to endure another lap of waiting until there is a resolve between ASUU and the FG.
Even after the ASUU negotiation
If they call off the strike,
NAAT still have unresolve issue with federal Government, since they join IPPIS, they have not been paid their hazard allowance meanwhile, they have been receiving it every month before IPPIS.

NASU and SANNU issue still pending

School resumption will be next year.
