This guy indicated interest in my car, went for inspection and we agreed on a price. He's been procrastinating payment only for him to come here advertising my car as his own without my permission. In saner climes, I would have sued this guy.

Please deal with this guy at your own risk, the car is mine. The only issue with it is overheating. I wanted to work on it but decided otherwise after some advices I got here. I don't know Jack about cars hence I cannot continue with it.

If I tell you my experience with Ford Edge you won't advise any of your friends to buy Ford but I changed the engine and my troubles came to an end.

My car engine is very sound. I am sure of that

[/b]Get a mechanic on Sunday to drive the car down for u. Worst worst it won't take u up to 7hours to get there from owerri no matter how bad the car is, don't give up on the car yet.

If you've not yet sold the car, please try replacing the coolant reservoir cap first. I had similar experience with a golf 3 auto I bought to sell. The car will be moving sluggishly and also overheats. I was at the verge of replacing the gearbox just like you when a mechanic in katsina just decided to change the reservoir cap. Till I sold the car, there was no more overheating or sluggishness

No, it can't be brought to Lagos because its overheating. I intended working on it and bringing it to Lagos for use but with advice's I got here, I decided otherwise.

Tina, I'm gonna be very blunt and frank with you on this. You know nothing about cars but went ahead to buy a very complex, highly over engineered car which happened to unfortunately be the most unreliable vw sedan after the vw phaeton.

Be glad if you see anyone having 150k to buy that Passat B5.5 as its got poor resale value and its having overheating problem/transmission ish.

The parts are unnecessarily expensive. Honestly I am done with Volkswagen as a whole.

If you are cool with the car, get a good mech. The problem is that most mechanics learnt work with carburetors and old designs, they are just struggling to adjust. For those who improve themselves with new technology, they can help out. I remember taking my XC70 to a Volvo mechanic, he was just 'parabulating'

Thanks but I don't even want to spend a kobo on that car when I am not 100% guaranteed the overheating problem will be solved. Better I keep my money, add it up and get another car.

Overheating can be caused by a leaky coolant system, or bad engine coolant fan, or bad thermostat. Or a leak behind the engine block where you have the second CTS.

That being said....a notoriously overheating vehicle would destroy your gear fibre. Causing no or reluctant gear changes.... and further damage to the transmission components. Automatic gearboxes hate overheating!

Prior to the overheating episode did you notice that your coolant level goes down unexpectedly?

That Passat is a rugged car but if you don't have its technicians around...dispose of it. My Audi A4 B6 rides like a dream....five years counting.... My Mercedes Benz E Klasse rides like a super jet.... I don't do japmobiles either Honda or Toyota. In fact my worst car experience was with the Honda! Reason? No qualified technician in my zone!

Honesty I can't tell. Unfortunately, I don't know jack when it comes to car. I just start engine and zoom off

Try sell the car. In 2010 on the Christmas day, my Volks Bug overheated while I was cruising home from Owerri to Orlu. I spent over 180k trying to fix the problem, at the end I sold it off because the overheating persisted. Then I was a car freak and bought any brand of car that got my attention. I have retired to only Honda vehicles (not an advert) because they hardly take me to mechanics and cruises soft and smoothly. Toyota is another good one but I don't like it's rigidity on ground, feels every stone on the roads and also you need to always change some parts to keep it going.

Sure, any other car I am getting must be either Toyota or Honda.

Hi Nairalanders, please I need advice/suggestions regarding my car. 2002 volkswagen Passat.

I was using the car in the east before I relocated to lagos hence its been parked for over a year. When I was using it in the east, it always overheat. my mechanic said the water pump needed to be changed. I changed it and the overheating stopped for few months only to start again.

Now I want to fix the overheating issue again so I can bring it over to lagos and my mechanic is saying the problem is gear. That the gear fibre is bad hence the overheating. He said gear will cost around 80k. I am really confused because:

Is the cause of the overheating really gear because my mechanic is inconsistent. I don't want to waste my money.

Can I get a good gear at that price?

Please I need suggestions. I am a separated mum and really constrained financially. I cant afford to waste my hard earned money that's why I need advice from gurus in the house

Op, you may consider saving your self this anxiety over your mum's consumption of carbonated drinks. You know why?
Right from my infant age, my grandmother consumed more carbonated drinks than any one else I knew. She's over 90 years now. Still very healthy, rarely gets sick except body ache from time to time. Last time her sugar level was tasted, it was perfect according to the doctor, no high blood pressure.excellent sight etc.
So you see, at times we bother ourselves over nothing.
P.S I am not supporting too much consumption of carbonated drinks. Try all you can to make her stop, but if she insists, consider saving your self some stress.
