The Central Bank of Nigeria, on Thursday, admitted that the ongoing scarcity associated with the naira redesign and cash withdrawal policy was not anticipated. This came amid numerous protests and attacks on banks by angry Nigerians due to the inability to access cash for their regular transactions. A Deputy Governor of the bank, Folashodun Shonubi, made the admission at the 22nd fellowship conferment lecture and ceremony organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers in Abuja. The lecture was titled, “The intricacies of the naira redesign and its benefit to Nigerians”. He explained that contrary to public opinion, the redesign plan which has been in the works for two years was not to punish anyone but to improve the economy. The deputy governor who stated that challenges faced were caused by a new line of business created by indigenous Nigerians, revealed that numerous benefits have been achieved which include retrieval of N2 trillion to the banking system. He said, “As you know, Nigerians are very ingenious. And we created a whole new line of business for people that we never envisaged. “An aspect of that is queuing, where you sell your position on the queue for money. Night crawling, where you wait till night, collect numerous cards from your friends and family and go to an ATM and empty them using different cards and then take the cash to sell. “So it’s been a bit stressful to be honest because we did not anticipate this kind of behaviour.” Shonubi, however, noted the necessary challenges will soon be of the past adding that the apex bank will do everything within its powers to salvage the current situation. “I believe that sooner rather than later, the stress ongoing in relation to money would reduce,” he concluded. https://punchng.com/new-naira-we-didnt-anticipate-challenges-cbn-admits/ |
They will come here now and blame Tinubu. But meanwhile they have been fighting the Supreme court since yesterday it temporary stopped the deadline for naira swaps |
Aiel123:It means story. |
Aiel123:Akuko Mike Ejeagha |
Hmmm. See humans like fries. We move. Tinubu had cleverly turned the crisis to his favour. People now see him as fighting for the common man which he has been doing all his life anyway. Cleverly alienated himself from the bad policies of Buhari. People especially the north now see Atiku and Obi as anti people with their support of the naira swap. An example is the poor attendance of Atiku's rally in Kano today. |

Prepare For Post-Election Crisis, Forget United Nigeria If Peter Obi Fails To Win Presidential Election –Adebanjo According to Adebanjo, there will be nothing like united Nigeria if Obi’s presidential bid fails this year. The leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has said that Nigerians should be prepared for a post-election crisis if the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi does not win the next election. According to Adebanjo, there will be nothing like united Nigeria if Obi’s presidential bid fails this year. Adebanjo, who adopted Obi as his preferred presidential candidate in 2022, has maintained that Obi remains the best candidate. He insisted that Obi is not only competent but should be voted by Nigerians as their next president for the sake of equity and fairness, and to keep Nigeria united. While speaking at the celebration of the life and times of the late President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor, in Lagos on Wednesday, as reported by The Sun, Adebanjo said Obiozor’s death came at a time Nigerians were in a battle to save the country from years of oppression. He said, “Forget Nigeria if you don’t vote for Obi. I am not boasting and it is not a threat. When we say we must come together, is it by cheating one of us? Is that equity, justice and peace?” “These days, I don’t fancy those who talk about united Nigeria in peace without action to back it up. Many people, even among the Igbo, pay lip service to a united Nigeria because of their selfish interest; Obiozor was not one of them. Obiozor was a distinguished scholar, an ambassador par excellence, an intellectual of international repute, and a qualified and distinguished Nigerian. “When you want to mention the people who give this country recognition and respect, how can you not mention George; he is one of our prides. He shouldn’t have gone now because we are in the middle of a great battle.” According to him, having a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction (from Southeast Nigeria) in 2023 is a cause that everyone must fight for. He added that Igbo people should not be shy about it as it is their constitutional right and not a favour. Adebanjo, therefore, warned Nigerians to prepare for a post-election crisis, saying, “In giving tribute to Obiozor, you must be prepared for a post-election crisis. But, whoever causes or initiates it, must not get away with it.” https://saharareporters.com/2023/02/09/prepare-post-election-crisis-forget-united-nigeria-if-peter-obi-fails-win-presidential |

The Nextier Poll is not worth a breath of concern, really. It is sufficiently flawed in conception, and design. The preconceived agenda is obvious. Political propaganda through questionable polls. The poll is not different from the quotidian tallying of goods by Onitsha-market traders. Propaganda, lies, and chicanery have always been instruments of war. In World War II, Germany actuated and deployed the most pervasive, yet incisive propaganda ever witnessed in history. For the Germans, the idea was to psychologically overwhelm their adversaries, and consequently, secure victory on terra firma. The most pernicious warfare is that of the mind. Politics, ordinarily, should not be warfare. But in a system of constant collision of interests like ours; it is sadly so. The weapons of political warfare are both corporeal and subliminal. The battle is fought in the minds of the electorate long before Election Day. The recent Nextier poll, which arrogates dubious electoral advantage to Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is an asymptote of political sorcery. The poll is essentially a subterfuge, a ruse, a gambit, an artifice; it is a serpentine machination through and through. The Nextier 2023 presidential election survey, like the ANAP Poll before it, is a deliberate fabrication in the pursuit of political gain. The poll seeks to achieve predetermined objectives: (1) to endorse Peter Obi as the people’s candidate; (2) to exaggerate Peter Obi’s electoral value; (3) to create a siege of choice and chaos should the outcome of presidential election reflect a different candidate; and (4) to prejudice the election with an impossible fait accompli. Nextier said it used “144 enumerators to poll 3,000 respondents in all states in Nigeria” to determine its projections. This is clearly defective and not extensive – as it leaves more room for error than stated by the pollster. According to Nextier’s projections, survey respondents in all the South-East states; in four out of six states in the South-West; in six states in the South-South, and in two states in the North-Central preferred Peter Obi as president of Nigeria. The poll also projected impressive performance for Peter Obi in the North-West and the North-East. This is ludicrous. The survey obviously discounted voting behaviour across the states, demographics, as well as sociological and ethnological influences among the electorate across the zones. The Nextier Poll is not worth a breath of concern, really. It is sufficiently flawed in conception, and design. The preconceived agenda is obvious. Political propaganda through questionable polls. The poll is not different from the quotidian tallying of goods by Onitsha-market traders. There have been open threats of violence by supporters of Peter Obi if he loses the election. These polls, which mock reality, objectivity and common sense could be ammunition for what is to come if the election does not go in the way of the “Obidients.” There should be a ceiling for propaganda. When electoral impossibilities are sold as definite outcomes by established pollsters, the risk is ominous. There is nothing dissuading the thought that “Obidients”, known to be choleric and unthinking in their delusion of certain victory will not unleash themselves on the nation. There are concerns that the country may experience another insurrection in the gravity of the #EndSARS violence over the outcome of the presidential election. It is dangerous giving hope where there is obviously no chance; it is foolhardy creating a dream that is unrealisable. It is unwise holding unto an illusion, believing it and living it. The only way out of this phantasm is the asylum. As I wrote in a previous column, Peter Obi did not plan to run for president. If he did plan to run for president, he would not be freewheeling through endless tunnels of gaffes and inchoate ideas. But really, he did not plan to run for president. An accident happened. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/opinion/580504-peter-obi-and-those-onitsha-market-polls-by-fredrick-nwabufo.html |
