The 20-year-old mother who abandoned her baby girl on a sweltering Manhattan subway platform on Monday was struggling to cope with caring for the child, she told cops. Frankea Dabbs, who moved to New York from North Carolina just days ago, has been charged with abandoning a child after she left her 10-month-old daughter, Milani Edmonds, alone on a train platform at Columbus Circle on Monday morning. ‘She felt she couldn’t take care of the baby and thought she was leaving her in a safe public space,’ NYPD spokesman Stephen Davis said. Relatives said that Dabbs, who was homeless after arriving in New York on July 2, had been plagued with troubles in North Carolina, including possible mental health issues and witnessing the killing of her baby’s father. Dabbs was forced to cower under the bed in their home in Clinton, North Carolina as masked intruders shot the man dead, her father Franklin Dabbs told the New York Daily News. ‘She was there hiding under the bed,’ he said. ‘I told her, “It could have been you”.’ Online records and mug shots also show she has previously been arrested for possession of marijuana, assaulting an officer, breaking and entering and solicitation for prostitution.

On Tuesday, Dabbs was found around 12.30am near 72nd Street and Broadway after a passerby recognized her from security footage and alerted a nearby police officer, DNAinfo reported. She allegedly admitted to the officer that she was the mother of the baby girl and was able to provide her name, age and medical history. On Tuesday, she was pictured being hauled in handcuffs to her arraignment by NYPD Transit Robbery Squad detectives. On Monday morning, Dabbs had allegedly pushed the baby’s stroller from a northbound 1 train at Columbus Circle before darting back inside the train.

Surveillance footage released by the NYPD showed the woman entering the subway with the baby in the stroller earlier in the day, but there were no cameras on the platform where the incident occurred. A 33-year-old bystander saw the baby alone on the platform and stayed with her for about 20 minutes, waiting for the woman to return. When no one came to claim the child, the witness contacted the MTA who took the baby to Transit District 1 Police Station. The baby was then taken to St Luke’s Roosevelt hospital for evaluation before she was handed over to the NYC Administration for Children’s Services.

The girl had a rash on her face and bandages on her hand but is said to be in good condition. She was reportedly wearing a red and white blouse with red leggings and pampers. Authorities believe the mother left her there intentionally because no one came forward to claim the baby girl. Patricia Floro, 44, who got off the train at the station with her two-year-old daughter in a stroller, told the Daily News it appeared like a desperate act. ‘She must have her reasons for doing that. I mean something else is going on, something deeper that would make her do that,’ Floro said.

A morbidly obese man dubbed ‘The Human Doughnut’ has lost 29 stone with the help of a low calorie diet and counselling. I have a new lease of life now. He said: ‘I wanted to do Supersize as I thought that it could help me deal with my weight, however, I just felt humiliated at the media headlines.

Somebody sent me a big box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and put jagged pieces of metal in them. ‘The police never caught the person who sent the box, but needless to say my family and myself were distraught. ‘I know that I was the person putting food into my mouth, but the reality is that food was not the issue - I was battling with underlying, deep-seated problems and I was using food to dull the pain.

There was pandemonium at Ise Ekiti in Ise Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, yesterday, when a trader whose name was given simply as Austin shot his landlord’s daughter to death.

Reason for Austin’s action was not immediately known, but Vanguard gathered that he shot the girl after a minor augment. Immediately the girl was shot, according to reports, Austin, who is from one of the eastern states, made a futile bid to escape but was caught by the mob. Vanguard gathered that the killer was set ablaze at a motor park. The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ise police station was hit on the head for attempting to rescue Austin just before he was lynched. Austin, said to be in his late 30s and a trader, reportedly shot the girl in front of her father’s house at Iro Oraye area of the town.

Before Austin finally met his waterloo, he was reportedly taken to the palace of the monarch of Ise Ekiti, Oba Adetunji Ajayi possibly to save his life, but the mob overpowered the palace guards, took him to the town’s main motor park where he was burnt. The remains of the slain girl and that of her alleged murderer, already burnt beyond recognition, have been deposited at a mortuary in the town by the police, while the injured DPO has been hospitalised. The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr Victor Babayemi said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.

The Ijaw music industry is mourning, as a road accident claimed one of its members, Mr. Augustine Kemepade, 38; his wife, Fortune and their friend, Mr. Okumagba Akieyefa, 37, Monday night along DSC expressway on their way from Aladja, Udu Council Area of Delta State. The death of the famous musician shocked to the Ijaw music industry as he just released his latest album.
A source who confirmed the incident told Vanguard on telephone that the incident occurred after their friend’s car sommersaulted while returning from Aladja. He said the late musician hailed from Ogbinama community, while his wife was a native of Kiagbodo community, and his late friend, Okumagba Akieyefa hailed from Obotebe community, all in Burutu Council Area of Delta State.

He said: “The three occupants of the vehicle died on the spot after it summersaulted several times and rammed into an electric pole at about 9.20pm on Aladja/DSC expressway.” Our source added that the Ijaw musician accompanied by his wife had gone to visit a friend at Aladja on that faithful day in celebration of the yuletide.

He said after much fun, the late couple decided to head back to Warri, but their host insisted that the couple spend the night with him but they refused. Okumagba Akieyefa, owner of the ill-fated car, decided to give them a lift through Aladja/DSC expressway when the ugly incident occurred. Comrade Ozobo Austin, National President of the Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, reacting to the sad news said he was shocked by the death of the trio.

So sad! May their souls rest in peace.

I will call this lady Bianca for the purpose of my article. Yesterday was another lovely evening and we were in the corner of the yard guzzling away our boredom on bottles and bottles of wine and chatting the evening away. Then Bianca shows up with her four year old daughter-Drew.

So Bianca joins our table made up of Janice, Pamela, Shirley, Bernice and me! Drew plays away in the hall while we chat, Bernice asks Bianca about Drew’s dad and Bianca immediately slams. “the oaf will not even send me and Drew a dime for upkeep, and when Drew got sick the other day, I had to stay awake two nights straight in the hospital all by myself and you know the excuse he cooked up when I called him to bring us some supplies? He had the nerve to tell me he was at a family meeting and could not leave! The hell, like Drew and I aren’t family huh?”

Yea Bianca was mad. But that is to be expected from having a child with a man who already has a family right? You will never be his first family or priority. This is the part Bianca never mentions when she slams her baby daddy, the fact that he is a married man and she knew he was married even before he got her pregnant. Now to more the real purpose of this article; we were still doing drinks and on the issue of how single most of us are even though we are somewhat seeing somebody but each persons relationship seems to have its own special issues.

Bianca is the most single one of us because she cannot juggle work, her kid and nurturing a real relationship and according to her, the most painful part is that no single men seem to want a relationship with her. So now she tells us “Ladies, I am actually thinking of giving some married man who has been chasing me a chance” I am like whaaat! You haven’t learnt your lesson?!! Pamela, Janice and Bernice have their mouths hanging open. Bernice is the married one among us so the announcement from Bianca got her super upset. Bernice; “Are you telling me you are purposefully setting out to break another woman’s marriage?”

Bianca; “That is not my intention but ladies, check this, no single man wants me and I am a very lonely woman these days. I am just tired of being alone so I am going to give it a shot with one of these married men chasing me. At least I will have companionship and someone by my side.” So let me get this straight Bianca, you will break up another womans home just because you are lonely? In fact your child is already from one married man and things didn’t work out but you will date another married man to have someone by your side? Is your past experience not bitter enough?

Bianca; “It was a bitter experience but look what I got from it, a gorgeous daughter and though I would rather not date a married man, those are the only ones who want me right now. And you never know, it may turn out better than my first experience. After all you ladies are dating single men and you are not exactly happy in your relationships so what is the difference? Well she had a point there and I am still speechless that she has made this decision but who am I to judge?

Ladies, would you date a married man after years of waiting in vain for a good single man? Would you advice your friend to do that or do you have a friend doing that? Let’s get talking…"
