Foreign Affairs / Putin, Trump Had Secret Second Meeting At G20. by tinziemaine(m): 12:52pm On Jul 19, 2017 |
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a second, undisclosed meeting during the G20 summit in Hamburg, news reports said Tuesday. The second meeting lasted about one hour and took place after the more than two-hour meeting that had previously been disclosed and widely described in news reports, according to the Washington Post and other US news media. Trump appeared to confirm the meeting in two tweets, but insisted, the story was “fake news” and that the media had already been aware of it. Russia’s President, Putin & U.S President, Trump “Fake News story of secret dinner with Putin is ‘sick.’ All G 20 leaders, and spouses, were invited by the Chancellor of Germany. Press knew!” he tweeted. “The Fake News is becoming more and more dishonest! Even a dinner arranged for top 20 leaders in Germany is made to look sinister!” US intelligence agencies have accused Russia of interfering in last year’s presidential election, and there are investigations into whether there was any collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign. Trump has denied that any collusion took place. The second meeting between Trump and Putin during the summit took place at a couples-only dinner for G20 leaders on July 7, a senior administration official said, according to the news reports. Trump initiated the meeting by leaving his seat in the Hamburg Philharmonic to sit next to Putin. The only other person present was Putin’s official interpreter. There was no information on what they discussed. Trump’s longer official bilateral meeting with Putin was the first face-to-face meeting between the two presidents. The US president has said he wants to improve US-Russian relations so that they can work together on global problems like the war in Syria. In another Russia-related announcement late Tuesday, the White House said Trump intended to nominate veteran diplomat and businessman Jon Huntsman as US ambassador to Russia. If Huntsman, the former Republican governor of Utah, is confirmed by the Senate to the diplomatic post, it would be his third ambassadorship. Huntsman previously served as US ambassador to China and to Singapore. Huntsman is chairman of the foreign policy research institute Atlantic Council and heads a cancer foundation. He also sits on the boards of directors of major companies such as Hilton, Chevron and Ford. He and his wife Mary Kaye have seven children. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/putin-trump-secret-second-meeting-g20/

Politics / Anambra Lawmakers Threaten To Impeach Speaker by tinziemaine(m): 7:49am On Nov 03, 2016 |
Awka—FEELERS from the Anambra State House
of Assembly yesterday indicated that the
lawmakers were perfecting plans to impeach the
Speaker, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu. Those behind the plan were said to have met in a hotel in Awka Tuesday and by yesterday, many of them had appended their signatures in support of the impeachment. It was gathered that as at noon yesterday, 21 out of the 30 legislators in the House had appended their signatures for the impeachment, which might take place during today’s plenary. It was not clear at press time the reason for the impeachment, but some of the lawmakers were alleging that the Speaker was ‘eating alone’ and therefore needed to be shoved aside. Another source said the impeachment had something to do with next year’s governorship election in which some of the lawmakers want to threaten the Speaker to be able to extract something from Governor Willie Obiano before the commencement of the campaigns. The Speaker, who spoke in a telephone interview, however, dismissed the action of the lawmakers, saying that she was perfectly under control. The Anambra House of Assembly is made up of 28 members of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and two from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/11/anambra-lawmakers-threaten-impeach-speaker/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc: LordScent |
Family / Runaway Wife: Bride Jilts Groom At Wedding Reception by tinziemaine(m): 8:40am On Nov 02, 2016 |
41-year-old man, simply identified as Julius, is finding it difficult to understand why his “wife” abandoned her marital vows midway into their wedding, shouting “I am no longer interested,” at the wedding reception in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State. All pleas by the bewildered husband at the popular Orhunwhorhun Road for the woman to reconsider her decision were to no avail. Her close friend told Vanguard that she saw her true love at the reception venue and decided to follow her heartthrob. The incident took place on Saturday, October 29. The would-be bride, Roseline, 32, has since disappeared into thin air and all efforts to trace her whereabouts had yielded no result at press time. It was a pandemonium as the wife ran out of the wedding reception and rejected her husband, saying “I am no longer interested,” forcing the wedding reception to end abruptly. The dazed husband, guests and bridal train ran after Roseline, caught up with her at the popular Orhunwhorhun Road, where all pleas for her to reconsider her decision and return to the reception venue fell on deaf ears. A close female confidante of the woman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Vanguard: “I believe she did what she did because she saw the previous man in her life at the reception. We heard that he had earlier promised to marry the bride, but he later travelled to Lagos and never showed up again. “When the bride waited for a long time and he (former suitor) was nowhere to be found, she decided to marry another man, who was ready although she still loved her former suitor. “So when her true love showed up at the reception without notice, the woman saw him and decided to call it quits with her husband to follow her heartthrob.” www.vanguardngr.com/2016/11/runaway-wife-bride-jilts-groom-wedding-reception/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:Berlynn Cc: HERSLEY Cc: zinachidi Cc: LordScent |
Politics / Nigeria Is Going Through A Very Serious Economic Surgery- APC Governors by tinziemaine(m): 7:02pm On Oct 24, 2016 |
Governors of the All Progressive Congress after arising from a meeting with President Buhari at the State House today, has described Nigeria as a sick patient going through a serious economic surgery. A statement by the governors read “There is no surgery that is not painful. Nigeria is going through a very serious economic surgery and that is the pains we are experiencing. We share the pains of Nigerians, every human being must feel it. We also feel what they are going through but we are asking for a little patience. Let us do things the right way and do it once and for all. “I am sure that by next year, you will begin to see changes, the price of rice will drop, prices of dollars will begin to stabilize and we will see a lot of challenges. But at this painful moment, nobody likes it. “It is like a woman in the labour room, when she is in the labour room there is no joy but she has to pass through that moment and that moment she doesn’t wear her high heel shoes, no makeup, no champagne, no party she is going through a process but shortly after that process joy cometh once she sees the child. So Nigerians should bear with us as a government. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/nigeria-going-serious-economic-surgery-apc-governors/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:HERSLEY |

Phones / NCC Warns Telecom Consumers Over Use Of Substandard Handsets by tinziemaine(m): 7:15pm On Oct 13, 2016 |
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned telecommunication consumers against the usage of substandard handsets. Mr Joseph Atoyebi, the Deputy Director, Consumer Affairs of the commission gave the warning on Thursday in Abakaliki during a Consumer Outreach Programme . According to him, such handsets are responsible for the various network and related problems they experience during dialing or receiving of calls. “Consumers should use the handsets outlined in our manual as they have been certified to be efficient for telecommunication usages,” he said. Atoyebi also urged consumers who use smart phones to be aware of its complexities which are responsible for the difficulties experienced while using them. “Many consumers complain that their data and credit are illegally deducted by service providers but they should understand that smart phones have various complex attributes. “Smart phones should be switched-off when not in use as they automatically upgrade themselves and can deduct data in the process,” he said. He also informed consumers that borrowing of credit from service providers is a business strategy which is not offered without costs. “There are stipulated deductions from credit lent to consumers by service providers as nothing is free in the business parlance. “Consumers are obligated to ensure the security of telecommunication installations such as masts and ensure they are not vandalised. “They should also not buy ‘SIM’ cards that are already registered and not use their phone lines for criminal activities such as kidnapping,” he said. Gov. David Umahi in his remark said that telecommunication plays an important role in advancing the growth and development of any society. Umahi represented by his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe noted that the nation would experience economic revitalisation if opportunities offered by telecommunication were properly harnessed. “The NCC as the ombudsman can properly regulate unsolicited text messages, ring tones and illegal deductions by service providers and use it as a catalyst for economic growth.” He said that the state government has inaugurated the Ebonyi Telecommunication Infrastructure Compliance Agency to ensure legal and proper development of telecommunication infrastructure in the state. Mr Temipope Ogunsola, a Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) official informed the audience that most messages they claim to be unsolicited were actually for educational purposes. The outreach programme which is the 79th edition in the NCC series has its theme as, ‘Information and Education as a Catalyst for Consumer Protection.’ www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/ncc-warns-telecom-consumers-use-substandard-handsets/ Cc:lalasticlala |
Politics / The Time Has Come For Us To Begin To Think – Iwuanyanwu by tinziemaine(m): 12:57pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
An elder Statesman, Chief Emmanuel
Iwuanyanwu of Imo State, has said that the time
has come for us to begin to think of what to do with
our natural resources cas he alled on the Federal
Government to use the crude oil for the production
of other materials rather than exporting to other
countries. He gave this advice Yesterday in Owerri at the HERB FEST 2016, organized by the Bio-resources Development Group of Prof. Maurice Iwu. Iwuanyanwu reasoned that the crude oil could be used to manufacture many other products in the country that were imported into Nigeria. He, however, attributed the current economic challenges facing the country to total neglect of other sectors by the government and that time has come to redefine the process in order to have the expected result. “You can see that, many people are thinking of what to do but nobody is talking of Science and Technology. I am happy now that we have gathered together especially in this time of recession.” ” The time has come for us to begin to think of what to do with our natural resources particularly the crude oil, we can use it to start producing many products, it will also add value to our natural resources. “ www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/time-come-us-begin-think-iwuanyanwu/ Cc:lalasticlala |

Education / Niger Stops Payment Of NECO/WAEC Fees Over Poor Results by tinziemaine(m): 10:32am On Oct 11, 2016 |
Minna—Niger State government has said that it
would no longer pay examination fees of students
in public schools due to the continued mass
failure in both WAEC and NECO examinations.
Governor Abubakar Bello, who disclosed this
while inspecting ongoing renovation at the
Justice Idris Legbo Government Secondary
School, Kutigi, yesterday, said: “As it is now,
majority of the students are not coming out with
good results at the end of both SSCE
examinations. “Instead of throwing away N800 million on examination fees without any corresponding results, this same money could as well be chanelled to renovation of schools, provision of learning equipment and rehabilitation of teachers’ quarters to make them more comfortable to put in their best in teaching.” The governor, who admitted that the state was still owing both WAEC and NECO N500 million for the last examinations, however, assured the students affected that the debt would soon be settled and their results released. Six schools, two each from the three senatorial districts of the state, have been pencilled down by the state government for renovation and turning into model schools. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/niger-stops-payment-necowaec-fees-poor-results/ Cc:lalasticlala Cc:Berlynn Cc: HERSLEY Cc: zinachidi Cc: LordScent |
