Politics / #nigeriaat55: 10 Punchlines From Buhari’s Independence Day Speech by tinziemaine(m): 9:50pm On Oct 01, 2015
As part of Nigeria’s
55th Independence
day celebration today
October 1, 2015,
President
Muhammadu Buhari
this morning had a
nationwide broadcast
where he spoke on
some national issues.
Below are 10
punchlines from his speech where he also
addressed the reason for the late delivery of
the ministerial list saying it was due to the
lateness of the past administration to deliver
to his administration their handover notes.

1.Change does not just happen, to bring
about change, we must change
ourselves
2.Fellow Nigerians, there has been a lot of
anxiety and impatience over the
apparent delay in the announcement of
ministers. There is no cause to be
anxious.
3.Our government set out to do things
methodically and properly.
4.If we must bring about change, we
must change our lawless habits,
attitude to public office and public trust
5.Nobody should fear anything from me.
You should only fear the consequences
of their actions
6.The new APC government is embarking
on a clean up, introducing prudence
and probity in public financing.
7.The fact that an opposition party
replaced an entrenched government in
a free and fair election is indicative of
the deeper roots of our democratic
system
8.Better results for our country is what
the APC government for change is all
about.
9.You and I and all of us must appreciate
that we all have our part to play if we
want to bring change about.
10.I hereby invite everyone, whatever his
or her political view, to join me in
working for the nation.

Travel / Lagos Travel Scam To Be Wary Of by tinziemaine(m): 7:13pm On Sep 29, 2015
For people who stay outside Lagos, Lagos is
considered a dream destination. Most
people who live in Lagos however consider
Europe and America a must visit destination
and are ready to do anything to travel to
these places. You must however be wary of
some fraudsters in the city who are ready to
prey on people’s desire to travel to Europe.
Here are 5 travel scams you must be wary of in
Lagos.

Visa Lottery:

Since 2013, Nigeria has been excluded from the
American diversity visa lottery but fraudsters in
Lagos still advertise asking people to apply
through them. Canada is also another destination
that fraudsters use to lure Lagosians who are
eager to travel out of the country. You need to be
very careful when patronising these agencies that
claim to have lottery openings to all countries as
most of them only want to make you pay and pay
until you have spent your last money before you
realise that they have nothing to offer.

International Job Offers:

You need to be wary of job offers in European
countries that require little or no skill. Some of
these offers do not even require academic
qualifications too. Some of these offers are
actually slavery in disguise. The agent who has
contacts in these countries is already paid to get
people who would be used as factory or farm
helps. Usually, the agent pays for the travel
expenses just to lure people. The victim is sent to
a remote part of the country where he or she
works for a period without pay because the agent
has already been paid for the service. This is not
usually known the person reaches the country.

Errand Scam:

Another travel scam to be wary of is one that
involves visiting a European country with little or
no details about the nature of the visit. The
person may tell you that you can make money in
some countries without doing anything. The
person might tell you that he has a relative who
will be waiting in the country to receive you. All
you have to do is to help deliver a package. Most
times, the package is illegal drug which will not
be made known to you as you are the courier. If
you are caught at the airport with the drug,
ignorance will not be considered an acceptable
excuse. If you are caught with the drug in
Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, United Arab Emirates,
Singapore, China or Saudi Arabia, you might be
sentenced to death as these countries have strict
laws against drug trafficking.

Kidney Sale:

Some Lagosians fall for the popular scam that
involves the sale of their kidney to make millions
of Naira. The scheme involves a paid trip to a
country in Europe where you can sell your kidney.
A similar but worse situation is when you are
asked to visit the country and after a few months,
you are ordered back to Nigeria only to find out in
a hospital that your kidney has been removed.
The danger of this travel scam is that he
operation is not usually done properly because
the scheme is illegal.

Female Cantered Travel:

This type of travel offer is exclusively available to
ladies. The offer is that a well-paying job is
available in one country abroad but in reality, the
ladies are sold to sex slavery and mad prostitutes.
The unfortunate thing is that the agent receives
payment for the ladies and they are made to
serve the master or mistress for a number of
years before they are allowed to be independent.
The nature of the job is usually hidden until the
person gets to the foreign country.

Politics / Re: Okorocha To Igbos: President Buhari Needs Our Support by tinziemaine(m): 1:58pm On Sep 17, 2015
tinziemaine:
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has
urged Igbos to support the government of
President Muhammadu Buhari rather than
to antagonise the administration over its
recent appointments.
The governor who was speaking to press men and
women at the Imo state government house,
opined that Ndigbos should focus on
strengthening the All Progressives Congress in the
South east zone ahead of the 2019 general
elections.
“Appointments are the prerogative of the
President and it should not be over politicized.
Rather our prerogative should be how to attract
projects to the Southeast. Our people should not
antagonise President Buhari but come together
under the APC as a national party and be in the
mainstream of Nigeria politics,” Okorocha said.
The governor also denied insinuations that he was
at logger heads with APC leaders in the zone
saying, “we are one big family and we are
working together to achieve the party’s campaign
promises.”
About a week ago, there were reports that Bola
Tinubu, the national chairman of the ruling APC,
had a clash with Okorocha
over one of the ministerial appointments of
President Buhari.
Meanwhile, both the APC and the Peoples
Democratic Party has said Okorocha should be
held responsible for the fate of Ndigbo
especially as it affects their inability to secure any
appointment so far in the administration of
Buhari.
