PoliticsTinubu: Nigeria’s Economy Is Getting Better As States Stop Borrowing For Salarie by TITOPE(op): 3:52pm On Mar 10
President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria has overcome economic challenges under his administration, stressing that state governors no longer run to banks for loans to pay salaries.
The President made the remarks while hosting religious and traditional leaders for an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, March 9. In a statement released, presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said President Tinubu promised to continue making the most of the opportunity given to him to lead the country by sustaining the trajectory of economic growth and prosperity.

“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. And all I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty. I can report that the economy has turned the corner.

It is getting better. Pensioners are getting their relief gradually. We have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy.

It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today I can say with pride and joy that we have survived. No governor in this country is running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” the President said.

He also assured Nigerians that the nation would not allow agents of instability to undermine its peace, unity, and sovereignty, while acknowledging the critical roles religious and traditional leaders play in promoting stability and moral guidance in communities.

“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated, they leave trails of blood in their wake. But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well,” he added

PoliticsAmerica Deploys USS Gerald R. Ford To Red Sea Amid Intensifying War With Iran by TITOPE(op): 1:18pm On Mar 07
BREAKING:

America's Might Closes In: USS Gerald R. Ford Enters Red Sea to take the war against Iran's Regime to a higher level in Day 8.

The world's most powerful warship, the nuclear-powered USS Gerald R. Ford, has transited the Suez Canal and is now operating in the Red Sea — flanking Iran's western side in Operation Epic Fury.

With the USS Abraham Lincoln already pounding targets from the south and east in the Arabian Sea, America now commands overwhelming strike power from multiple vectors. Two supercarrier strike groups deliver unmatched air dominance, precision strikes, and deterrence.

In just the first week of this decisive campaign — launched under President Trump's leadership — U.S. forces have:

- Struck nearly 200 targets deep inside Iran, including nuclear enrichment sites at Fordow and Natanz via B-2 bombers
- Sunk over 30 Iranian naval vessels, gutting Tehran's sea power
- Reduced Iran's missile barrages by up to 90%, neutralizing much of its ballistic threat

No U.S. carrier has been damaged, and American casualties remain minimal despite Iranian attempts at retaliation. The Ford's extended deployment — now pushing toward record lengths — proves U.S. resolve: we fight to win, and we finish what we start.

As Secretary Hegseth declared: "We have only just begun to fight." Iran’s mullahs face total defeat. Peace through strength is being restored — one devastating blow at a time. 🇺🇸💪

FamilyMy Dad Is Aa And My Mom Is Aa But I’m As” X User Seeks Explanation Over Genotype by TITOPE(op): 6:55pm On Mar 06
My Dad is AA and my Mom is AA but I’m AS” — X user seeks explanation over genotype confusion

An X user has sparked conversation online after sharing confusion about their genotype.

In the post, the user wrote: “My Dad is AA and my Mom is also AA but I’m AS. Can someone make this make sense to me, please.”

The question quickly drew reactions from other users who tried to explain how genotype inheritance works.

Many pointed out that if both parents are truly AA, a child would typically also be AA, since both parents can only pass the “A” gene.

Some users suggested that the situation could be due to an earlier testing error or that one of the parents might not have been accurately tested.

Others advised the user to consider repeating the genotype test in a reliable laboratory to confirm the result.

Foreign AffairsIran Vows ‘crushing Response’ To Israel–us Strike by TITOPE(op): 9:59am On Feb 28
Iranian leaders have pledged a forceful retaliation after Iran was struck in coordinated attacks by Israel Defense Forces and the United States, raising the spectre of a wider regional conflict.

Iranian officials told Reuters that Tehran is preparing to hit back against the strikes with a response they described as “crushing,” signalling serious escalation after explosions were reported in the capital Tehran and other cities.

On Saturday, Israel announced it had launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran, saying the operation was intended to neutralise threats posed by Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes. The strikes reportedly involved coordination with US forces and hit multiple targets across Iranian territory. Sirens sounded in Israel as concerns grew of possible Iranian retaliation.

Explosions were widely reported in Tehran, with Iranian media confirming military activity. The operation has shattered recent diplomatic efforts aimed at renewing talks between Washington and Tehran over the nuclear dispute.

Responding to the attacks, Iranian authorities have pledged a powerful response. An Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran’s response will be “crushing,” underscoring the severity of the situation and the regime’s readiness to strike back at perceived aggression.

Pro-government voices in Iran have warned that the country will defend itself against the strikes and that Tehran’s retaliation could target strategic installations not only within Iran but potentially against US and Israeli military assets in the region.

The threat of retaliation comes as Israel and the United States pursue a hard line against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, insisting that limits on enrichment and missile capabilities be part of any diplomatic deal. Tehran, while open to discussing nuclear restrictions in exchange for sanctions relief, has rejected tying missile development to nuclear negotiations.

PoliticsBRT Fare Hike: Lagos Govt Announces 13% Increase Effective March 2 by TITOPE(op): 10:32pm On Feb 23
Breaking News: Lagos Govt Increases BRT Fare by 13%, Effective March 2

The Lagos State Government has announced a 13 percent increase in fares across all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) schemes, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and standard bus routes, citing persistent economic challenges affecting public transport operations.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the adjustment following appeals from regulated transport operators who warned that rising operational costs were threatening the sustainability of services.

The new fare structure will take effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.

According to government officials, the decision aligns with the state’s annual fare review mechanism and is necessary due to continued inflationary pressure. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that Nigeria’s inflation rate closed 2025 at 15.2 percent, a development that has significantly impacted transportation costs.

Bus Operating Companies (BOCs) have reported sharp increases in expenses, including vehicle maintenance, spare parts, fuel, and staff salaries — particularly following the implementation of the new national minimum wage. Operators also say they are investing in newer, cleaner, and more fuel-efficient buses to maintain service quality and improve passenger comfort.

Impact on Commuters

While the government maintains that the increase is necessary to keep the transport system running efficiently, the development is expected to further strain commuters already grappling with high living costs.

For millions of Lagos residents who rely daily on BRT buses for work and business, the 13 percent hike will mean higher transportation expenses at a time when food prices, rent, and utility costs remain elevated.

Many commuters argue that amid economic hardship, any increase in public transport fares could worsen financial pressures on low- and middle-income earners. With wages largely stagnant despite inflation, the question on many lips is: Should fares be going up at a time like this?

Transport analysts note that while fare reviews may be inevitable to sustain operations, governments must balance economic realities with social impact, possibly through targeted subsidies or efficiency reforms to cushion the effect on the most vulnerable residents.

As the new fare regime takes effect, Lagosians will be watching closely to see whether service quality improves in line with the increase and whether additional measures will be introduced to ease the burden on commuters.

Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor public reactions and government responses as the policy unfolds.

PoliticsFCT Poll: PDP Drags APC To Court After Five-council Sweep by TITOPE(op): 8:49am On Feb 23
The Peoples Democratic Party has inaugurated a special legal team to challenge the results of Saturday’s election held across the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.

As declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, candidates of the All Progressives Congress won five of the six chairmanship seats in the council elections.

The APC won the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abaji, Bwari, Kwali and Kuje, while the PDP secured the chairmanship seat in Gwagwalada.

The exercise, conducted to fill six chairmanship and 62 councillorship seats, was marred by widespread voter apathy and reported vote-buying.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, on Sunday, the party congratulated its winning candidates but alleged irregularities.

The party said its legal team would be headed by its National Legal Adviser, Shafi Bara’u, Esq., and urged aggrieved candidates to act promptly.

“We specifically congratulate the chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Mohammed Kasim, and the councillors who have been declared successful by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“This victory, though less in number than we anticipated, is particularly gladdening because it is against the background of unprecedented intimidation, high-powered money politics and brazen executive brigandage,” the statement read.

Ememobong further alleged misconduct during the polls.

“Reports and video evidence abound where armed security personnel were used to cart away result sheets at polling units, intimidate voters and unduly influence the outcome of the elections.”

The statement added, “The incredible voter apathy in these polls is a direct response to the anti-people Electoral Act 2026, where the people have completely lost faith in electoral outcomes conducted under this Act.

“These local council polls may just be a foreshadowing of the forthcoming general elections in 2027 if changes are not urgently made.”

According to results declared by INEC officials, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC was returned elected in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, after polling 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast.

The Returning Officer for AMAC, Andrew Abue, declared, “That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

The African Democratic Congress came second with 12,109 votes, while the PDP secured 3,398 votes.

The total votes cast stood at 65,197, with 2,336 rejected votes. AMAC recorded 837,338 registered voters and 65,676 accredited voters.

In the Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku of the APC emerged victorious with 18,466 votes.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Mohammed Nurudeen, said, “That Joshua Ishaku, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

The ADC polled 4,254 votes to place second, while the Zenith Labour Party garnered 3,515 votes to finish third. The election was conducted across the 10 wards of the council.

In Abaji Area Council, Umar Abubakar of the APC secured 15,535 votes to defeat his closest challenger from the Young Progressives Party, who polled 5,357 votes.

The PDP candidate came third with 4,547 votes. Declaring the result, INEC Returning Officer Muhammad Usman said, “Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Similarly, in Kwali Area Council, the APC candidate, Nuhu Daniel, polled 17,032 votes to defeat Haruna Pai of the PDP, who secured 8,575 votes.

Also, the APC won the Kuje Area Council chairmanship election, with its candidate, Danjuma Shekwolo, emerging victorious. Shekwolo polled 17,269 votes, according to the official results.

Declaring the outcome, Returning Officer, Prof Nkiruka Odoh of the University of Abuja, said, “Shekwolo, having secured the highest number of votes and met all legal requirements, is duly elected and returned as Chairman of Kuje Area Council.”

Closely trailing the APC candidate, the PDP candidate, Zakwoyi Danlami, polled 15,824 votes, while the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Abdullahi Galadima, scored 4,305 votes.

The PDP’s lone victory came in Gwagwalada Area Council, where Mohammed Kasim polled 22,165 votes to defeat Yahaya Shehu of the APC, who secured 17,788 votes.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Philip Akpen, said, “That Mohammed Kasim of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance came third with 1,687 votes. Gwagwalada recorded 207,577 registered voters and 46,294 accredited voters, with 43,960 valid votes and 1,521 rejected votes.

INEC denies voter migration claims

INEC, on Sunday, announced that over 239,000 voters participated in the just-concluded FCT Area Council elections, representing about 15 per cent of the 1,680,315 registered voters.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Wilfred Ifogah, on Sunday in Abuja, the commission expressed appreciation to residents of the FCT for their peaceful conduct and cooperation throughout the electoral process.

According to INEC’s Election Operations Dashboard, 45 per cent of polling units had opened for voting as of 8:30 am on election day, while all polling units were confirmed open by 10:00 am.

The commission, however, acknowledged that some voters experienced difficulties locating their designated polling units.

Addressing claims in some quarters that voters were migrated to new polling units, INEC denied the allegation, clarifying that no voter was transferred from their original units.

“Contrary to the claim in some quarters that some voters were migrated to another/new polling units different from their original polling units, the commission wishes to state categorically that voters were not migrated,” the statement read.

It explained that what was done was the creation of split polling units in locations with over 1,250 registered voters to reduce congestion on election day.

“The split units are located a few meters away from the original polling units within the same premises,” INEC stated.

The commission recalled that it displayed the voter register at designated centres and split polling units four days before the elections to enable voters confirm their details and polling unit locations.

It added that text messages and emails were sent to affected voters from Wednesday, February 18, through Saturday, February 21, 2026, to notify them of the exact locations of their split polling units.

“These were intended solely as reminders to assist them in identifying their current polling units,” the commission said.

INEC further disclosed that as of 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 22, 2026, 93 per cent of polling unit results had been uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal, allowing residents and other interested members of the public to access results from the six Area Councils.

While expressing concern over voter apathy, the commission noted an improvement compared to the 2022 Area Council elections, where 148,685 voters, representing 9.4 per cent of registered voters, participated.

“In the current election, over 239,210 voters voted, representing approximately 15 per cent of the 1,680,315 total registered voters in the FCT,” the statement added.

INEC attributed the delay in announcing the Kuje Area Council result to the difficult terrain in Kabi Ward, which slowed the final collation process.

The commission said the level of participation recorded across the six Area Councils reflects citizens’ continued trust in the democratic process and the electoral system.

A white Mercedes-Benz SUV conveying five (5) occupants two (2) females and three (3) males was intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation.

When questioned, the occupants were unable to provide satisfactory means of identification. One of them repeatedly stated, “I am Papaya X, even your bosses know me,” but failed to present any valid identification or offer verifiable details.

The officers thereafter requested that they proceed to Ajah Police Station for proper identification and documentation. An (ASP) joined them in the SUV, while other officers followed behind.

However, upon leaving the scene, the driver suddenly sped off in an apparent attempt to evade the Police. The vehicle was subsequently intercepted through the swift intervention of personnel from Langbasa Police Division at another checkpoint around Addo Roundabout.

The viral video being circulated was recorded after the vehicle had been successfully stopped at the second checkpoint.

The matter is currently under investigation, and further updates will be communicated as necessary.’’

EducationJAMB Announces Deadline For 2026 UTME Registration by TITOPE(op): 4:42pm On Feb 18
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced 26th February 2026 as the final deadline for 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, registration.

This was disclosed in a statement by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Wednesday.

According to him, the sale of e-PINs, which enables a candidate to proceed to the Centre for registration, will end at 12:00 midnight on Thursday, 26th February, 2026, while actual registration at accredited centers for those who already procure the e-PIN will cease on Saturday, 28th February, 2026.

He noted that over 1.5 million candidates have so far registered for the 2026 UTME as of Tuesday.

“This indicates that a significant number of prospective candidates are yet to take advantage of the opportunity to register.

“Candidates are therefore strongly advised to obtain their e-PINs before the vending deadline and proceed immediately to accredited centers to complete their registration. Waiting until the last few days may result in avoidable challenges, and the Board will not entertain any appeals for extension after the deadline,” the statement reads.

InvestmentDollar To Naira Exchange Rate Today, February 17, 2026 by TITOPE(op): 5:54pm On Feb 17
The Nigerian Naira maintained a stable yet cautious position against the United States Dollar during the Tuesday morning trading session on February 17, 2026.
Following a weekend of steady consolidation, the local currency continues to trade within the 1,350 range in the official window, reflecting the ongoing effectiveness of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) liquidity management.

Official Market Trends
In the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the Naira opened the day’s session at approximately 1,351.18 per dollar. By mid-morning on February 17, the exchange rate saw a marginal adjustment, with the dollar trading at an average of 1,354.86.

This performance indicates a slight move away from the intra-day high of 1,351, as market participants react to early-week corporate demand. Financial analysts note that the Naira has successfully avoided the volatility often seen mid-month, largely due to the transparent price-matching mechanisms of the Electronic Foreign Exchange Matching System (EFEMS). With the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) currently positioned to support domestic stability, the official rate has remained well-anchored below the 1,400 mark for over two weeks.

Parallel Market Realities
The parallel market, or informal window, has mirrored the relative calm of the official sector, though it continues to trade at a traditional premium. In major commercial hubs such as Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, Bureau De Change operators are quoting the dollar within a range of 1,425 to 1,440.

Traders report that while the start of the business week usually brings a flurry of retail activity, the supply of dollars remains sufficient to meet current demand for personal travel and small-scale business transactions. The narrowing spread between the NFEM and the parallel market continues to serve as a deterrent to speculative hoarding, fostering a more predictable environment for consumers and small business owners alike.

Summary of Rates for February 17
NFEM (Official) Opening: 1,351.18
NFEM (Official) Current: 1,354.86
Parallel Market Range: 1,425 – 1,440
As the trading day progresses, market observers are focused on whether the Naira can reclaim its opening strength. The broader outlook for February remains positive, with Nigeria’s external reserves providing a necessary buffer against external shocks. Investors will be monitoring the closing rates this evening to gauge the currency’s momentum for the remainder of the week.

FamilyCeremony Interrupted After Allegations Surface Regarding Groom’s Identity by TITOPE(op): 6:10am On Feb 17
A groom was discovered to be transgender during his wedding festivities.

Just hours after completing the “seven vows” of marital bond, a 22-year-old groom was “exposed” as being allegedly associated with the transgender (kinnar) community.

The shocking discovery was made moments before the bride’s ceremonial “bidai” on Friday night, Feb. 13.

The marriage was fixed six months ago between a local girl and Rishu, a resident of Pure Ganai village in India. On Feb 13, the “baraat” arrived in full festive spirit, with a band, dancing relatives, and a grand welcome from the bride’s family. Rituals were completed and guests retired after dinner.

Around 4am, when preparations for the bride’s departure were under way, a group of “kinnars” (transgenders) from Kadopur reached the venue to collect customary “neg” (gift). The atmosphere shifted dramatically when they recognised the groom.

Eyewitnesses claimed the groom’s family quickly handed over Rs 23,000, urging them to remain silent.

When the bride’s relatives asked the groom to step inside for verification of his gender, he refused and created a commotion. The visiting “kinnars’ revealed that the groom was earlier a part of their troupe.

Furious relatives of the bride detained the groom as police were alerted.

However, no formal complaint was lodged, reportedly due to social sensitivities.

After negotiations, the groom’s side allegedly agreed to reimburse wedding expenses. The “baraat” returned without the bride.

InvestmentNigeria Lists 19.75% Government Investment Bond: What It Means For Citizens by TITOPE(op): 5:53am On Feb 17
Nigeria Just Listed a 19.75% Government Investment… But Many Nigerians Don’t Understand What It Means.

Oya... Relax.
Let me explain....
Because what happened today on NGX is bigger than many people realize.
And if you understand it early,
you will start seeing money differently.

Today, the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) announced something important:
The Federal Government listed a 7-Year Sukuk paying 19.75% per year.

Many people saw the post.
Few understood it.

So As your Financial Literacy Advocate, let me break it down like I’m explaining to Mama Ngozi that sells tomatoes in the village.

FIRST - WHAT IS SUKUK?
Sukuk is simply:
A government investment like a bond - but structured in a halal (Islamic) way.
That’s all.

Think of it as:
Bond = Conventional
Sukuk = Islamic version of bond
Same purpose.
Different structure.

Imagine Mama Ngozi in the village.
One day, the community wants to build a new road.
But the government says:
“We don’t want to borrow money with interest the normal way.”
So they tell people:
“Bring money. We will use it to build real projects like roads and bridges.
Then every year, we will share profit with you.”

Mama Ngozi brings ₦1,000.
Government uses her money to build roads.
Every year, government pays her a return.
After 7 years, they return her ₦1,000 fully.
That is Sukuk.

So, Iking...
What Was Announced Today?

Cam down, let me break it down with Simple English.
The Government is raising money from investors
They will pay 19.75% yearly return
Investment lasts 7 years
Minimum price: ₦1,000 per unit
Listed on NGX (so it can be traded)
Backed by government infrastructure

So, Iking...
How Does The Interest Work?
Let me Explain.
If you invest:
₦1,000,000
At 19.75% yearly
You earn:
₦197,500 per year

And guess what?
You receive payments every year
until 7 years finish.
Then government returns your full capital.

Wow... That's good.

But, Iking....
Is This Investment Only For Muslims?
Let me be honest.
Because..
This is where many people get it wrong.
Yes - Sukuk follows Islamic finance rules.

But listen carefully:
It is NOT only for Muslims.
Christians can invest.
Anyone can invest.
The difference is structure, not access.
It is simply:
A cleaner, asset-backed government investment.

As your Financial Literacy Advocate, let me tell you the hidden secret many people don’t know

Sukuk is not just “government borrowing.”
It is:
Asset-backed financing.
Meaning:
Real roads
Real bridges
Real infrastructure
Not paper promises.
That’s why many global investors love Sukuk.
Because it is tied to real assets.

Let me give you wisdom.
Many billionaires don’t joke with:
Government-backed instruments.
Why?
Because they offer:
Stability
Predictable income
Lower risk than stocks
Sukuk falls inside that category.

Iking...
What is the Advantages Of This Sukuk?
Oya...
Let me break it down clearly:
Government-backed (low default risk)
High yield (19.75% is huge historically)
Tradable on NGX
Halal-compliant
Backed by real projects
Fixed income stability

In simple terms:
It’s like locking in a high yearly income.

But Here Is The Part Many Ignore
Every investment has context.
Sukuk is best for people who:
Want steady income
Think long-term
Prefer stability over hype

It is NOT for:
Quick profit chasers
Speculators
People who panic easily
This is wealth-builder money.
Not gambling money.

Most Nigerians only hear about:
Crypto pumps
Forex hype
Hot stocks
But serious investors study:
Bonds
Sukuk
Treasury instruments
Because that is where real wealth quietly compounds.

And Here's why this listing is important
Because...
This listing shows something bigger:
Nigeria’s capital market is evolving.
We are now seeing:
Islamic finance growing
More product diversity
Global-standard instruments
And those who understand early…
Always benefit first.

HERE'S HOW TO INVEST (FOR BEGINNERS)

If you want to start:
Open account with licensed stockbroker
Use platforms like:
InvestNaija
Afrinvest
Stanbic IBTC
Others SEC-approved
Search Sukuk listing
Buy units

Start earning yearly income
Simple.

Let me say this clearly.
Many people will scroll past this post.
Few will understand it.
Even fewer will act.
But history always favors people who:
Understand early
Move wisely
Stay patient
Wealth is not built by noise.
It is built by understanding instruments like this.

Politics2027 Elections: Reno Omokri Raises Concerns About Starlink Following X Outage by TITOPE(op): 5:21pm On Feb 16
Starlinks Failed X (Twitter) Today, Yet, Peter Obi And Co Want INEC To Use It For The 2027 Elections!

Today, X, formerly Twitter, experienced a global
outage that lasted for hours. This is a site that has the most advanced servers and is linked to Starlink (please fact-check me), which is used to facilitate its operations. Yet it still went down today, and you and I couldn't access it.

And you are now saying that the Nigerian Senate should pass laws compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission to provide real-time election results? Let us not be emotional in this country.

Some politicians, including a particular Senator, as well as activists, even said Nigeria should invite Starlink to help INEC provide real-time election results.

First of all, Starlink is a private company. As a country, it would be most irresponsible to allow a private firm to breach the privacy and personal data of your citizens, including their photos, fingerprints, and National Identification Numbers.

But beyond that, X relies on Starlink. And Starlink did not save them from today's outage.

So, I support Electronic Transmission of Results, and it must be in the Electoral Act. But I do not endorse real-time electronic transmission of results.

No country does that. Including Brazil and Estonia, which some misguided people cite. In those countries, results are sent electronically only AFTER polls have closed, which is what we want in Nigeria.

Even America, the home country of Starlink, does not have real-time transmission of results—ditto for the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

It is only people like the self-confessed accessories to hackers, like Nasir el-Rufa'i, who want INEC to go that route. And of course, we now know why!

Electronic transmission, not real-time transmission.

PoliticsAbuja Court Ruling On VIO Powers Doesn’t Apply Nationwide- Lagos State Govt Says by TITOPE(op): 5:08pm On Feb 16
Abuja court ruling on VIO powers doesn’t apply nationwide- Lagos state govt says

The Lagos State Government has clarified that the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) operations does not invalidate enforcement activities in Lagos.

In a statement released, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, said viral interpretations suggesting that the appellate court ruling applies across Nigeria are misleading.

The clarification followed a judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which upheld an earlier decision of the Federal High Court restraining Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and the Directorate of Road Traffic Services in the Federal Capital Territory from stopping motorists, impounding vehicles, or imposing fines.

In his statement, Pedro maintained that the courts based their decision on the absence of statutory powers authorising VIO officials in the FCT to carry out such enforcement actions.

“It is important to understand that the Honourable Judge of the Federal High Court and Justices of the Court of Appeal premised their decision on absence of statutory power conferred on the Respondents to stop, impound or confiscate vehicles and/or impose fines on motorists on roads in FCT Abuja” the statement read

While acknowledging the validity of the ruling within the FCT, the Lagos government stressed that the judgment is not of general or nationwide application.

“The judgment, though binding, is not of general application or of nationwide effect in Nigeria,” the ministry stated, adding that Nigeria’s federal structure permits states to legislate on residual matters, including vehicle inspection and traffic management.

The government stressed that Lagos operates under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, which expressly establishes and empowers the Vehicle Inspection Service.
