PoliticsEkiti To Prosecute Parents Who Keep School-age Children At Home by TITOPE(op): 4:18pm On Sep 02, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/09/ekiti-to-prosecute-parents-who-keep.html

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said parents who keep their school-age children out of school in the state risk being prosecuted, stressing that the State Child’s Right law provides that all children must be given access to education.

The Ekiti State government last week commenced school enrolment drive aiming at ensuring that all school-age children register for the forthcoming 2019/2020 academic session.

Speaking in Eporo, Emure Ekiti during the sensitization programme, Dr Fayemi who called on all parents and guardians to key into the free education programme of his administration, said education is not only free but compulsory in Ekiti State. He added that it is an abuse of Child’s Right for any parent or guardian to deny school-age children the opportunity to go to school.

He said the state government is providing free but quality education which parents must exploit to build a solid foundation for their children and wards.

“We have a Child’s Right Act in Ekiti which prohibits parents from disallowing children of school age to be out of school during school session. If your child is not in school when the school is in session, you have a lot to explain because we will apprehend the child whether he is found hawking on the street or engaging in any illicit activities which prevent the child from being in school.

“The parents will have to explain to the government or the relevant institutions why that child is not in school. In order to ensure that we implement that law, we have a family court in the state that takes responsibility for children that are not in school and parents who fail their responsibility”, he said.

While saying that his administration is committed to restoring the State to its pride of place as the fountain of knowledge and its top rank in school enrolment in Nigeria, the Governor said the present administration has provided instructional materials, furniture and a conducive learning environment where teachers can effectively contribute to the growth and development of their pupils.

Fayemi said his administration is opposed to the collection of fees in all public primary and secondary schools in the state, stressing that any teacher caught collecting school fees from pupils would be seen as collecting a bribe.

“For us in Ekiti, it is not enough to say we have free education. We need to enlighten our people particularly in the rural communities on the importance of education and the necessity for their wards to be enrolled because education is also compulsory in our state and we are doing this for basic education level because we have experienced some challenges in the last four years in the state.

“Enrolment figure in the state used to be the highest in the country up till 2014, and then we suffered a decrease in enrolment according to UBEC national figure. We have a duty as a government to ensure that we get the figure back to where it used to be in order to build the foundation that is solid for our children and we have a duty to ensure that we don’t just encourage them to come to school but also provide everything to make sure education is pay-less for them whether in terms of the instructional materials or the school feeding that we now offer them in primary school or the encouragement we give the teacher to deliver competently.”

“All these are things we are working on, and the school environment because it is not just the teacher quality but also the learning environment that contribute to the growth and development of the average child. You cannot put children in an environment where they can’t learn properly because they have notable and chairs, no fence to protect the school premises, the teachers don’t have all they need in terms of maintaining discipline, an entire gamut of responsibilities that we have as parents”, he said.

While urging parents to enrol their wards in public schools where there are qualified teaching personnel, Governor Fayemi said the free education being enjoyed by Ekiti children is a return on the tax being paid by citizens of the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Fransisca Aladejana had urged parents to enrol their children and wards in public schools because of the availability of qualified and competent teachers as well as conducive learning environment, being provided by the government.

The Southwest zonal Director of UBEC, Mrs Mudubi Roseline also called on political and religious leaders to sensitize the people on the importance of enrolling their school age children this session.

PoliticsPDP Condemns Alleged Attack On Ex-governor - Fayose by TITOPE(op): 12:16pm On Sep 02, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/09/fayose-pdp-condemns-alleged-attack-on.html

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has condemned an alleged attack on former Governor Ayodele Fayose in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Recall that Fayose had alleged that he narrowly escaped being attacked by some men in a pickup van who trailed his vehicle after he left the state House of Assembly in Ado Ekiti where he said he had gone in response to the legislative body’s summons.

In a reaction, the PDP state chairman, Chief Gboyega Oguntuwase, in a statement on Sunday, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of masterminding the alleged attack.

He appealed to the police to exhibit professionalism in the handling of the attack on the ex-governor.

He called on traditional rulers in the state to prevail on the All Progressives Congress not to introduce another era of violence into the state.

The statement reads in part, “I personally protest the attack on Fayose. As the PDP leader in the state, I say we don’t deserve it because nobody harassed the opposition under our watch.

“A pollution of the river of peace in Ekiti will not be to anybody’s advantage. One monumental feature of the APC government is the intimidation and harassment of opposition .

“It is an irony that leaders who in obedience to a summon by a legislative body can be ambushed shortly after the visit to be harrassed and threatened with weapons.

“This is not good for Ekiti or Nigeria.”

http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/why-we-resisted-fayoses-ambush-on-ekiti.html

The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly has disclosed that the former Governor of the State, Ayo Fayose’s ambush on the House of Assembly complex was resisted because he came unannounced.

The Speaker in a press release signed by his Special Adviser, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, disclosed that after the resolution of the House of Assembly at the plenary yesterday inviting the former Governor to appear before the House, he called the Speaker to confirm if the report was true. The Speaker confirmed to Mr Fayose’s it was true and that was the end of the discussion.

The statement further disclosed that after Fayose’s phone call, the Speaker intimated two of the lawmakers of his conversation with the erstwhile governor.

”Just as the Speaker was settling down in his office this afternoon, Mr. Fayose stormed his office with a retinue of pressmen led by his former media aide, Mr Lere Olayinka, who was equally wanted on another alleged fund stealing. The Speaker who was accompanied to his office by two other lawmakers immediately stopped the journalists from entering his office and warned Mr Olayinka against writing any fake report as it’s usual of him.

When Mr Fayose announced his readiness to the Speaker, he was told to go back and await the official invitation letter from the House of Assembly.

Rt Hon Afuye, however, stated that the former Governor was accorded his due compliment on arrival at the House of Assembly ”being a former No1 citizen of the State”. He then reiterated that the House cannot be harassed or intimidated by anyone ”as we are poised to investigate the alleged looting of public fund without any fear or favour”

SportsMikel Obi’s Relationship With Olga Diyachenko Threatened Over Turkey Move by TITOPE(op): 2:25pm On Aug 30, 2019
Olga Diyachenko, girlfriend of former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has threatened to dump the Chelsea legend over his transfer move to Trabzonspor this summer.

We had reported that Mikel joined the Turkish Super Lig side after leaving English club, Middlesbrough.

According to AOIFootball, Olga has threatened Mikel that she will no longer come to Turkey to visit him with her children.

The report added that Olga is not happy with the 32-year-old after he left England for Turkey, adding that the pair relationship has gone sour.

Mikel and Olga have two twin daughters, Ava and Mia.

“I can confirm to you that all is not seemingly fine with them. Olga doesn’t like the city and has taken the children back to their base,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying.

“In fact, she warned him against the move to Turkey but he convinced her about it. Now she came visiting and doesn’t like it; the kids do not also like it there in Turkey which could now be a problem for Mikel.

“Now Olga has told Mikel that she won’t return to visit him again which means he won’t also see the kids, leaving Mikel with only the chance of seeing his family in December during the Christmas break, a decision which I understand has left him sad and may unsettle him.”

PSC explained that the suspension would enable it to finalise the remaining stage of the exercise.

A statement by the Commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani on Friday urged candidates to wait for further directives from it.

The statement reads: “The Police Service Commission has enjoined applicants for recruitment into the Constable Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force to exercise some patience as it finalises the remaining stage of the recruitment exercise.

“The Commission also wishes to advise all the candidates who participated in the recruitment exercise up to the aptitude test, to ignore any list or information on the exercise emanating from outside the Commission.

“It is the constitutional responsibility of the Commission to recruit Nigerians into the Police Force whether as Constables, Cadet Inspectors or Cadet ASPs and the Commission is not ready to abdicate this very important mandate.

“The Commission will resist any attempt to ambush the on-going recruitment exercise or dilute its content. It notes that such attempt will be an affront on the Constitution and a waste of national resources.

Makinde declares N650,000 as salary is not enough, promises to address poor remuneration

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has promised to find solution to poor remuneration in the state civil service.

Makinde, who declared his readiness to tackle the workers poor remuneration, asserted that poor remuneration was dangerous to anti-graft campaigns of any serious government.

A statement issued on Wednesday by Mr Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, quoted Makinde as making the assertions while addressing members of his cabinet.

He noted that poor remuneration packages could be counterproductive to anti-corruption initiatives of his government if not addressed.

He, therefore, reiterated his commitment to finding a lasting solution to the issue of poor remuneration in the civil service.
The governor stated that it would not be business as usual under his leadership, as he would do everything possible to ensure that workers in the state were not exposed to the temptations of corruption.

” We do have challenges and I can give you an example of the kind of issues that we are faced with.

”When I was on the podium being sworn-in, I announced that I was donating my salary to the pension board. I actually thought my salary was going to be like N3 million or N4 million monthly.

” But when I came in here, I discovered that my salary is only N650, 000 monthly, which is less than $2,000.

”And then, I have a budget of $500,000,000.
”How can somebody earning $24,000 a year preside over a $500,000,000 budget?

The temptation is just too high.
”When I was growing up, anytime I saw permanent secretaries and top civil servants, all around with their entourage, jeeps, Land cruisers, etc, I thought they were making it big, because I was driving Peugeot or Toyota Camry.
”But when I came in here, I discovered that the salary of Permanent Secretaries is under N500,000 per month; in such an environment where you have contractors coming with big temptations.

” The expectation is just too high, but the good news is, we will find a solution to this, it is not going to be business as usual in Oyo State, ” Makinde said
He further charged all the new commissioners in the state to key into his vision and manifesto of accelerated development of the state.

He stressed that his administration would conduct business in an unusual manner that would change the narrative about governance in the state.

PoliticsOur Vigilante Outfit Was Frustrated For Political Reasons – Wike by TITOPE(op): 7:44am On Aug 29, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/our-vigilante-outfit-was-frustrated-for.html

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said the State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency which was created by his administration was frustrated for political reasons.

He also stated that the establishment of State Police would go a long way in resolving the current security challenges facing the country.

Governor Wike said the present security structure made it difficult for the Federal Police to respond quickly to security challenges.

The Rivers Governor said these during a meeting with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Callamard Agnes at the Government House Port Harcourt.

He said: “We believe that there should be State Police for us to effectively fight crime in the country. Our system is fashioned towards the United States, which has Federal, State and Local Police. Each of them have their responsibilities.

“In the present situation, if a crime is committed, the Commissioner of Police will first report to the Inspector General of Police, before taking any action.

“We established the Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency which would have helped the security agencies with Information. But it was politicised by the Federal Government when they sent the Nigerian Army to ensure that it did not come to fruition.

“If the State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency was allowed, probably we would have solved part of the security problems”.

Governor Wike reiterated the commitment of the State Government to the fight against cultism.

He said that the State Government had initiated an anti-cultism law, which would be diligently implemented.

He said that working with security agencies, the State Government had intervened in the cult clashes in Ogoniland.

He said several arrests have been made in Khana Local Government Area, where cult groups dislodged some communities.

Earlier, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Ms. Callamard Agnes said that she was interested in documenting the nature and extent of killings by State and non-state actors.

She said: “I am interested on how the Federal and State Governments respond to the challenges of violence by State and non-state actors.

“I would be grateful if you will share with us, Information on killings by the State and non-state actors”.

PoliticsSowore Breaks Silence On Collecting Money From Nnamdi Kanu by TITOPE(op): 9:47am On Aug 28, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/revolutionnow-sowore-breaks-silence-on.html

RevolutionNow: Sowore breaks silence on collecting money from Nnamdi Kanu to overthrow Buhari govt

Omoyele Sowore, 2019 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, has dismissed allegation by the Department of State Services, DSS, that he collected money from Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to topple the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

He, however, admitted that though, he had a meeting with Kanu in the United States, US, he did not receive any fund to wage war against President Buhari.

Sowore stated this in a process he filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday.

He also maintained that contrary to DSS allegation against him in its counter-affidavit, he has never visited Dubai or any country in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, since he was born.

He disclosed that DSS never knew he had a meeting with Kanu till it was published on his online news platform, Sahara Reporters, adding that his banks accounts both locally and international had been investigated by the secret police.

In a motion, he filed through his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, Sowore, argued that he has never been involved in any terrorist activity “and there is no evidence whatsoever linking him to any terrorist activity”.

The affidavit that was deposed on his behalf by a lawyer in Falana’s Chamber, Abubakar Marshal said though the Revolution Now mass protest took place in many cities across the Country on the August 5 in his absence, there was no reported attempt to violently topple the government in Nigeria.

It reads: “That on Tuesday, 2nd July 2019 he met with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a British national in New York City, United States of America and at the end of the said meeting, they both issued a joint press statement. A copy of the said statement is hereto attached and marked EXHIBIT A. The Applicant/ Respondent did not know about the meeting until it was reported in Sahara Reporters, an online medium published by him.

“That contrary to the deposition in Paragraph (vii-xi) of the counter-affidavit, there was nowhere in EXHIBIT SSS1 where he expressed a desire to launch any violent attack or topple any government in Nigeria.

“That is further response to paragraphs 4 (vii-xii) he did not plan a coup with anyone but he mobilized the Nigerian people including students and youths, workers, market women and other oppressed people to influence the federal government, the 36 state governments and 774 local governments to address the crises of corruption, maladministration, mismanagement of the economy and insecurity.

“On August 5, 2019, the Applicant / Respondent claimed that it had the Respondent/Applicant in custody and boasted that it had foiled the Revolution. In the evening of the same date, the federal government issued a statement wherein it thanked the Nigerian people for not joining the RevolutionNow protests.

“The present administration had promised to create one million jobs per annum, build one million houses per annum, end epileptic supply of electricity, end corruption and impunity and restructure the country, end insecurity and manage the economy in the interest of the Nigerian people.

“Apart from failing to address these problems, the Muhammadu Buhari administration has compounded them in a manner that the majority of Nigerians are frustrated.

“That aside the myriads of challenges noted above, insecurity has increased to the extent that thousands of people have been killed by terrorists, kidnappers, armed robbers, armed herders, armed soldiers and armed policemen without any hope in sight.

“That contrary to the deposition in Paragraph 4(xiv) of the counter-affidavit, the Respondent / Applicant has never visited Dubai or any of the UAE Cities in his life and he has never received any money from any individual, group or organization for the purpose of removing the President or freeing any person through any unlawful means or for any other unlawful purpose whatsoever.

“That he has willingly availed the Applicant/Respondent of his local and foreign banks’ account details. In the course of the said investigative interviews of the 7th and 8th August 2019, officials of the Applicant/Respondent told him that they could not believe that he does not have millions of Naira in his accounts.

“That due to the refusal of the Applicant/Respondent to obey the court orders for the release Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife from unlawful custody his supporters have been protesting against the refusal of the Federal Government to abide by the said orders.

“That like million other persons worldwide, the Respondent / Applicant has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to obey the court order and release the said Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaky and his wife from custody.

“That contrary to the assertion in paragraph 4 (xvi)he has never held any meeting or consultations with members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

“That on the contrary, the leading members of the ruling party met with the said leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria several times before this arrest in December 2015. The members of the ruling party or operatives of the Applicant / Respondent have also been meeting him regularly in custody.

“That the Applicant/Respondent completed his interrogation based on the information which he made available as the investigators have no information whatsoever. Since the completion of the investigation on August 8, 2019, he has been idle.

“That the Respondent / Applicant needs treatment on his ankle which was seriously strained during the midnight invasion of his abode on the said Friday 2nd August 2019 by the armed agents of the Applicant/Respondent.

“That his pedigree as a pro-democracy activist, social crusader and front line opinion moulder is unblemished and he is one of the activists who played a vital role in restoring democracy in Nigeria on May 1999.

“That on August 4, 2019, he and other organizers of the peaceful protest released “the rules of engagement” where they said that, “We eschew all forms of violence. No protester should throw any object as little as stones or attack any security officials. We are aware of their intent to provoke the mass unduly by using undue tactics and sponsored agents, so as to give the protest a bad name. We encourage all Nigerians to remain calm as we are ready to fight these injustices to a logical conclusion”. Attached hereto and marked EXHIBIT Bis a copy of the said news press release of the rules of engagement.

“That contrary to the averments in paragraph4(xvii-xxii) of the counter-affidavit, the protests actually held on the 5th August 2019 and none of the persons who took part in the said protests engaged in any form of violence or attack.

“The Respondent/Applicant further avers that the agents of the state unleashed violence and mayhem on peaceful protesters. Attached hereto and Marked EXHIBIT C is a news report confirming the assertion.

“That the persons who were arrested and charged for participating in the peaceful protest of 5th August 2019 have since been released on bail.

“That even President Muhammadu Buhari was once tear-gassed by the Applicant/Respondent and the Nigeria police force for protesting against electoral malfeasance. Attached herewith and marked EXHIBIT D. A copy of a newspaper report on how the Applicant/Respondent and the police tear-gassed General Muhammadu Buhari and other political leaders in the country.

“That President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the ruling party had led street protests in the past which the Applicant/Respondent claimed were planned to overthrow the federal government. Attached hereto and marked EXHIBIT E is the news report confirming the assertion.

“That President Muhammadu Buhari led protest marches after each consecutive loss of the presidential elections won by Messrs Olusegun Obasanjo, Yar’adua and Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP in 2003, 2004 and 2014 but was neither arrested nor charged for planning to overthrow the government.

“That the Respondent/applicant is not a coup plotter like the military officers who toppled elected governments in Nigeria in January 1966 and December 1983 and who were never arrested and prosecuted by the Federal government.

“That based on the misleading advice of the Applicant/Respondent, any political leader who criticized the federal government has always been accused of engaging in sabotage, treason, treasonable felony or terrorism. Individuals and bodies that have been so accused include:

“The Nigeria Labour Congress under the leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomole, the current Chairman of the APC had been accused of sabotaging the economy for protesting against the incessant increase in the prices of fuel under the former Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

“In 2010, the Jonathan administration accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of treason of saying that those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.

“In 2010, the Jonathan administration accused ex-military president Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other PDP leaders of sponsoring the bomb blast which occurred at Abuja and killed 16 people and injured several others. The Applicant/Respondent even arrested and detained Chief Raymond Dokpesi. But the alleged sponsors of the bomb blast were not prosecuted due to lack of evidence to substantiate the monstrous allegation emanating from the Applicant/Respondent. In 2011, General Muhammadu Buhari was accused of sponsoring political violence.

“In 2014, the Jonathan administration accused the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of sabotage for going on strike to demand adequate funding for public universities. Exhibit F is a document confirming the assertion

“In May 2015, the federal government warned those who were planning a coup de tat to desist from the plot. Even though the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai denied the involvement of the Nigerian Army in the planned coup but the alleged coup plotters have not been arrested and prosecuted.

“In 2015, operatives of the Applicant / Respondent and armed soldiers invaded the Lagos State Secretariat of the APC and carted away computers. At the end of the invasion, the Applicant / Respondent claimed that it had found evidence of the planned rigging of the 2015 general elections but the leaders of the APC were not charged with any offence.

“In 2014, the Jonathan administration filed terrorism charges against the 12 leaders of the APC in Ekiti State for frustrating the alleged plan of the PDP-led government to rig the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State but the charge was withdrawn due to lack of evidence. Exhibit G is a document confirming the assertion.

“In 2018, the federal government claimed that it had credible evidence of plans to sabotage Buhari’s administration but it has not charged the so-called saboteurs with treason or treasonable felony.

“In 2019, the Buhari administration had accused Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of treason Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has reacted by dismissing the reckless allegation.

“The federal government has either blamed disgruntled Nigerian politicians or the former regime of the late President Mummar Gaddafi for killings by armed herders but the Buhari administration has not charged any of the disgruntled politicians with any offence. Even the 3,000 herders arrested and detained for murder and sundry offences have not been arraigned in any court in Nigeria.

“After the 2019 general election the federal government also alleged that defeated candidates were sponsoring bandits and herdsmen to prevent the inauguration of the President but the so-called sponsors of violence have not been arrested and prosecuted by the Applicant / Respondent”.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/laliga-president-rates-messi-above.html

LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, has said both Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo, are not as important to the league as Lionel Messi.

Neymar has been linked with a move back to Spain, only two years after he left the Camp Nou.

The Brazil forward has been linked with a return to Barca and Real Madrid.

And Tebas admitted that he would like to have Neymar back in Spain, wherever he ends up, but the presence of the Brazilian would not be as vital as that of former team-mate Messi, when it comes to growing the league’s popularity overseas.

“Yes, of course [I’d like Neymar to return]. With his qualities he’s in the top three players in the world. It would be very important for La Liga if he came again, although it wouldn’t be defining for the Spanish league.

“The defining thing is that we play 10 months a year, with 20 clubs each playing each other and generating passion and joy each weekend for fans in Spain and across the world.

“A player like Neymar gives you a following in countries that look out for him, but he’s not an essential element, not even Cristiano Ronaldo was. Lionel Messi, on the other hand, is an essential element because he’s the heritage of La Liga,” Tebas told Marca.

PoliticsBuhari Told To Suspend His Minister, Festus Keyamo Immediately by TITOPE(op): 4:49pm On Aug 26, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/buhari-told-to-suspend-his-minister.html

Paul Ibe, a Senior Adviser to the presidential candidate to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has called for the suspension of Festus Keyamo as Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs.

Ibe said this in a reaction to trending photos where the newly appointed Minister posed with a suspected fraudster, Ikogho.

The FBI released full details and identities of 80 suspected fraudsters, with many being Nigerians, arrested in the United States on Thursday.

Iro, 31, and Chukwudi Christogunus Igbokwe, 38, were named as lead suspects.

The duo allegedly coordinated with others, to launder the funds from victims.

Jerry Elo Ikogho was among the 77 Nigerians arrested last week for online fraud. He is number three on the 77-man list.

Keyamo had in reaction to the viral picture said himself and Ikogho grew up as friends and he wouldn’t deny alliance with him, adding that the picture was taken in 2011.

But in reaction on Monday, Ibe tweeted, “Festus Keyamo (SAN), Niger Delta Minister of State and former EFCC Prosecutor is linked to Jerry Elo Ikogho also known as J Man, Number 3 on the FBI Fraud List of 77.

“As was the case with Babachir and Obono-Obla, Keyamo should be suspended for unfettered investigations.”

PoliticsGovt Sends Strong Message To Land Grabbers In Lagos by TITOPE(op): 1:09pm On Aug 26, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/govt-sends-strong-message-to-land.html

The Lagos State Government has urged legitimate land and property owners in the state to perfect their legal documents for easy administration of justice.

In an statement on Sunday, the Coordinator of the Lagos State Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers, Mr Owolabi Arole, noted that his team had since inauguration received over 1,300 petitions bordering on land grabbing.

He said that the agency concluded 550 cases, made 35 arrests and was still working on 330 petitions.

Arole added, “A large chunk of the land grabbing cases the task force is working on is fraught with issues of improper and incomplete legal documentation and such issues cause delay in getting justice for rightful owners of land.

“These issues, however, have not deterred us from carrying out our mandate and getting justice for rightful owners of land from unscrupulous elements who forcibly encroach and dispossess them of their property.”

Arole noted that untidy property documentation made it difficult for property forcefully taken to be retrieved through legal means.

While urging victims of land grabbers not to take the law into their own hands, the coordinator advised them to report to the state task force team which would ensure that justice was done.

He warned land thugs to desist from the illicit trade, saying the state government would bring the full weight of the law to bear on anybody caught forcibly taking another person’s property.

PoliticsAPC Will Continue To Rule Even After The Expiration Of The Second Term-Oshiomhol by TITOPE(op): 4:34pm On Aug 23, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/what-oshiomhole-told-apc-governors.html

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Friday expressed confidence that the party will continue to rule the country even after the expiration of the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

He stated this during a meeting with the Governors of the party under the platform of Progressive Governors Forum, on Friday where he also called for synergy among party members to move the party and the country forward.

Oshiomhole admitted that the task of leading the party has been quite challenging, adding that “It is quite a challenging experience for me. I try to compare myself as a governor and now as chairman of a party, coming in at the eve of primaries and dealing with fallouts of the previous congresses. And then proceeding to conduct elections.

“Then conduct primaries and campaigns across the 36 states and the FCT. And, working hard to ensure that we secure as many votes we can for our president.

“As, well as support our states particularly where we didn’t have state governors to ensure that we are able to lend a helping hand.

“I am happy to say that at the end of the day even though we lost some states we also gained some states.

”We gained Kwara, which for us is extremely important. And, we also gained Gombe state which is also very strategic among others.

“Of course, we have a clear majority in the National Assembly. We have more senators elected on our platform. We also have more of House Representatives elected on our platform.

“As it stands there are many cases in court. And until those cases are resolved, we won’t be able to say for sure where we stand. It is our prayer because we believed that a lot of our cases in court have merit. We hope that there will be justice and they are resolved in our favour.

”We also want to congratulate you for having being reelected. Sometimes it is easier to be elected the first time. But to be reelected implies a huge vote of confidence by the people of your respective states.

“And Looking at things from here, I know a lot went into trying to seize the deliberate attempt by the opposition to discredit the good ones. Like, we have said during the retreat, we believed our party has made a lot of progress in the three key areas that were reflected in our manifesto.

“But, there is a lot to be done. And I am sure working together at both the executive, state and federal by the special grace of God, we will do better in this second time. As to merit, our party will continue to govern the country post-2023.”

The delegation of the progressive governors was led to the meeting by their Chairman and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu.

PoliticsRevolutionnow: Court Takes Decision On Sowore’s Release by TITOPE(op): 11:43am On Aug 21, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/revolutionnow-court-takes-decision-on.html

The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, declined to order the release of Omoyele Sowore and other persons in connection with the RevolutionNow protest.

We recalls that Sowore was picked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, for calling for the RevolutionNow protest.

Presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, on Tuesday, declined to release Sowore until the court has heard from the Federal Government, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

He ordered the DSS and IGP to appear before him on September 4 to show cause why Sowore and other protesters in detention should not be immediately released.

The judge also ordered Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, who filed the ex-parte application seeking the detainees’ release, to put the IGP and DSS on notice, The Nation reports.

Ogungbeje, who said he participated in the #RevolutionNow protest but was barred along with other people in Lagos from carrying out their constitutional right, filed the application on behalf of himself and other participants.

He prayed the court to declare as “unconstitutional and illegal police clampdown on the protesters and the arrest of Sowore by the DSS.”

He also sought an order for the immediate and unconditional release of those arrested and detained.

Joined as respondents in the application were the Federal Government, the DSS and the IGP.

Giving reasons why the arrested persons should be immediately and unconditionally released, Ogungbeje said, “There has been a grave constitutional infraction committed by the respondents against the applicant and other persons who engaged in the peaceful protest for good governance in Nigeria.”

The lawyer said he was deprived of his constitutionally-guaranteed right to peaceful assembly and association and the right to freedom of expression.

“On the 3rd of August, 2019, the convener of the protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore’s residence was forcefully invaded and put under siege; he was arrested, whisked away and detained in the detention facility of the 2nd respondent (DSS).

“Mr Omoyele Sowore has not committed any offence known to law to warrant the infringement and likely infringement of rights by the respondents.

“By engaging in the peaceful protest, the applicant and other persons have not committed any offence known to law to warrant the treatment meted out to them by the respondents and their agents,” Ogungbeje said.

Chief of Staff to the immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Samuel Olakunle Ojo, has debunked claim that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, raided his house alongside his former boss, Akinwunmi Ambode, over alleged N9.9 billion fraud.

Ojo added that he was neither involved in any fraud nor his house raided by the anti-graft agency during their visit to Epe.

The anti-graft agency had been investigating the administration of the former governor over alleged N9.9 billion fraud which led to freezing three accounts owned by the State Government.

In a statement made available to journalists in Lagos on Tuesday by his Media aide, Cornelius Kayode, the former Chief of Staff stressed that the house raided by the agency in Epe did not belong to him.

He maintained that the house raided by the EFCC operatives belongs to the former Personal Assistant to Ambode, Mr. Bunmi Ariyo.

According to him, my boss, Mr. Olakunle Ojo, did not have any personal house in Epe while in office and after leaving office.

“The former Chief of Staff did not build any house in Epe as claimed. The House raided by EFCC belongs to Bunmi Ariyo who was the former governor’s Personal Assistance,” he added.

Ojo, however, urged the public to disregard the claim that his house was among buildings raided by the anti-corruption agency.

PoliticsSanwo-olu Swears In Commissioners, Journalists Denied Access Into Auditorium by TITOPE(op): 11:36am On Aug 20, 2019
There was tight security and rowdiness as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State swore in commissioners and special advisers on Tuesday. This was as members of the press were not given opportunity to enter the venue.

The venue of the event, Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, was filled with security operatives including policemen, DSS officials and bouncers as people struggled to enter the auditorium, not even journalists were allowed to enter the auditorium.

The Governor’s press crew was not allowed in. They were asked to go to the gallery where they cannot have proper view of the event.

All pleas fell on deaf ears as task force police officers were waiting for the final order to drive the journalists away.

In the end, cameramen were allowed into the hall while the reporters were ejected to the gallery.

Gaining access to the gallery was another thug of war. After much hassle, newsmen accessed the gallery amidst anger and frustration.

At the gallery, it was difficult to observe happenings inside the hall as decorative curtains blocked the view.

CrimeOgun Missing Child Found With Adopted Mother In Anambra After Two Years by TITOPE(op): 10:02am On Aug 19, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/ogun-missing-child-found-with-adopted.html

The police in Ogun State have narrated how a seven-year-old boy, Joshua Joseph, who was declared missing two years ago, was found with his ‘adopted mother’, Blessing Ozor, in Anambra.

We learnt that the adopted mother, Ozor, allegedly paid N1.05m for Joseph’s ‘adoption’.

Ozor claimed to have paid the N1.05m to a level-13 civil servant in the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs, Ifeoma Joy, before she could adopt the boy.

Joshua, it was learnt, was declared missing by his parents, who live in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in 2017, but he was found by men of the state police command in Anambra State.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, gave the details at the state police headquarters, Abeokuta, on Sunday, while handing over Joshua, who had been renamed Chisom by Ozor, to his father. He paraded Ozor and Joy in connection with the incident.

Makama intimated that the boy was found after thorough search and investigations by operatives of the command over the last two years.

The police boss stated that Joshua was stolen in Ijebu-Ode and sold to Ozor.

According to the police boss, two other members of the syndicate, Rita and Angela, were being held in prisons in Edo and Ondo states, respectively, for the same offence.

It was gathered that both Rita and Angela gave information from their prison cells that led to the recovery of the boy and the arrest of Ozor and Joy in Anambra State.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, accused Joy of collecting over N1m from the acclaimed adopted mother and forged adoption documents from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs.

“Joy is working at the Ministry of Women Affairs in Anambra State. She used the opportunity to arrange buyers for stolen children.

“In the course of looking for her, she got transferred to four local government councils within one month in order to evade arrest.

“Our findings showed that eight children had been stolen by this syndicate from Ogun State and four had been recovered.

“One of the stolen children was found when the people, who adopted him, saw the boy’s picture on the pages of newspapers and returned him.”

Speaking with journalists, Joy denied the allegation against her, saying she was not involved in such an act.

She said, “I never did such a thing. I know the woman, who brought this boy, as a worker at the Peace Sisters’ Home.

“So, when my sister in fellowship (Ozor) came up with the idea of adopting a child, I called the other woman to help us get a boy and I gave Rita my sister’s particulars. When she finished with the particulars, she now came with this boy. I never knew the boy was stolen.”

In her own words, Ozor said she gave Joy N150,000 for processing of the adoption papers and additional N900,000 when the deal was completed.

“I am just a victim of circumstances by my foolishness. I went to a sister in our fellowship, who had adopted a child before, because I have two daughters already but I had a feeling for a son; my last daughter is 24 years old.

“I went through Rita because she and her husband had adopted a child before and they led me to this woman, Joy. I believed that everything was okay because she made me believe that she runs the Peace Sisters Home. That was why I adopted the boy (Joseph) from her,” she spoke in tears.

PoliticsEl-zakzaky: Real Reason Shiites Leader Was Repatriated From India – Buhari Govt by TITOPE(op): 6:23pm On Aug 16, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/el-zakzaky-real-reason-shiites-leader.html

Nigerian Government has reacted to the sudden return of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, otherwise known as Shittes, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky from his medical trip to India.

We reported earlier that the Islamic leader abandoned India after he forbade the doctors from treating him and his wife.

Zakzaky and his wife arrived Nigeria at noon on Friday and was picked up by the operatives of the Department State Services.

In a statement to us on Friday, signed by Grace Isu Gekpe, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, the Federal Government said it “wishes to inform the public about the latest development in the Ibraheem El-zakzaky medical trip controversies to India.

“The Government notes with dismay the acts of misconduct exhibited by El-zakzaky that necessitated his repatriation.

“The earlier statement of 14th August 2019 by the Government addressed the issues that would have raised some questions with the latest occurrences and particularly the uncelebrated return of El-zakzaky from India.

“The public may note that El-Zakzaky’s actions in India demonstrated malicious intents that were capable of embarrassing the Governments of Nigeria and India.

“With total disrespect and complete loss of decorum for international procedures while in India, he initiated contacts with a team of lawyers led by Ali Zia Kabir Chaudary and Gunjan Singh in that country.

“He also contacted some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), such as the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and other Shiite groups. His aim was to seek asylum and eventually relocate to another country.

“It is important to note that if an Indian court had granted El-zakzaky asylum or leave to travel to another country, it would have violated the Nigerian court order that granted him permission to travel for medical treatment.

“However, he used the opportunity of being in India to attempt to internationalise his cause by mobilising the Rights groups. Even most unfortunate and rather embarrassing as earlier stated, was his quest to be relocated to a 5-Star hotel to receive visitors instead of being admitted in the hospital as a sick person he claimed to be.

“In spite of his misconduct, El-zakzaky’s spouse went further to antagonize the Indian and Nigerian security agents and accused the latter of killing her children. These acts were aimed at winning international sympathy as well as disparaging the Nigerian Government.

“Having subordinated the quest for medical treatment to other ulterior motives, it became obvious that El-zakzaky was focused on realising some sinister motives thus the decision to return him to Nigeria.”

EducationNABTEB Releases 2019 Results, Reals Out Performances by TITOPE(op): 5:49pm On Aug 16, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/nabteb-releases-2019-results-reals-out.html

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board, said 32,673 candidates that sat for the NBC/NTC examinations scored five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.

Registrar/Chief Executive, NABTEB, Prof. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the 2019 May/June NABTEB examination results in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The Registrar/Chief Executive, NABTEB, said a total of 46,120 candidates obtained five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics; thus representing 83.05 percent of the candidates that sat for the same exams.

Prof. Ifeoma said a total of 56,413 candidates registered for the examinations in 1,501 centres, stressing that analysis of the enrollment indicated that candidates enrolled for 15 Engineering Trades, 7 Construction Trades, 9 Miscellaneous Trades, 4 Business Trades and 21 General Education Subjects.
He noted that a total of 55,532 candidates sat for the examinations which represents 98.44 percent of the total enrollment adding that it is important to note that out of the 30,955 candidates that sat for the various trades, 16,573 (53.54 percent) were certified as craftsmen.

While lauding the quality assurance mechanisms put in place by the board, Ifeoma said it has helped the body to checkmate examination malpractice.

“Permit me to observe that quality assurance mechanisms put in place by the board to checkmate examination malpractice seem to have continued to yield positive results.

“For instance, 399 candidates representing 0.72 percent of the examination candidates were found to be involved in examination malpractice compared to 842 candidates, representing 1.52 percent of the total number of candidates during the May/June 2018 certificate examinations”, she said.

She however stressed that, as part of the effort of the federal government to empower Nigerians with skills, the National Skills Qualification Framework was approved by the Federal Ministry of Education which expanded the assessment horizon of NABTEB as general awarding body for the assessment and award of Nigerian Skills Qualification to products of both private and public institutions.

She further said NABTEB is therefore well prepared to collaborate with public and private training institutions that are engaged in training on technical, vocational or entrepreneurial skills in any part of the country for the purpose of conducting assessment and awarding certificates.

PoliticsFayemi Inaugurates New Council Of Traditional Rulers, Caution Obas by TITOPE(op): 4:46pm On Aug 15, 2019
http://www.titopeblog.com/2019/08/fayemi-inaugurates-new-council-of.html

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Thursday inaugurated the newly constituted State Council of Traditional Rulers under the chairmanship of Alawe of Ilawe, HRM Oba Adebanji Alabi, with a call on the obas to support the present administration’s efforts at bringing development to every part of the State.

The Governor also charged the traditional rulers and all Ekiti indigenes against unnecessary and baseless rivalry which can lead to communal clashes; adding that every well-meaning Ekiti-kete should aim at the peace and progress of Ekiti State.

While stating that his government has immense regard for traditional institution, Dr Fayemi said his administration relies on the traditional rulers for “maximum support to ensure that every community feels the impact of this government of restoration”.

“I therefore use this opportunity to call on our royal fathers and elders to continue to help address anti-social behaviours in their domains. The most important ingredient of development in the State is peace and security and you all have an important role to play as custodians of the culture and tradition of our people. As our Royal Fathers, you are to be at the forefront of the State’s campaign for peace and security”.

“It is important to restate that the traditional institution of kingship in our society, regardless of the advent of modernism remains a rallying point for the generality of our people. It has also been serving as one of the veritable vehicles for dissemination of our policies, programmes and mobilization of the populace for same and it will continue to remain relevant to the government”, he said.

While thanking the immediate past council under the chairmanship of the Oloye of Oye Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju for the commitment displayed while in the saddle, Fayemi reiterated his commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers “within the limits of the resources available” to government.

Earlier, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi had said that the reconstitution of the Council of Traditional Rulers became imperative following the expiration of the tenure of the outgone council in july 2019.

Egbeyemi said Fayemi’s approval to reconstitute the council was in tandem with section 2(3) of the Council of Traditional Ruler Law no 3 of 2000.

He disclosed that government had painstakingly selected 26 rotational members alongside 32 permanent members to make up the new council whose tenure will end in 2021.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the newly reconstituted council and Alawe of Ilawe, Oba Adebanji Alabi said traditional institutions must be responsive to emerging global trends by proffering solutions to societal problems.
