Politics2027 Elections: INEC Signals Possible Schedule Review Amid Ramadan Concerns by TITOPE(op): 11:13am On Feb 15
The Independent National Electoral Commission has indicated it may review the timetable for the 2027 general elections following concerns that the scheduled dates could coincide with the Ramadan fasting period.

In a statement issued on February 14, 2026, the electoral body said it had taken note of representations from stakeholders who raised concerns about the timing of the polls, particularly their alignment with nationally recognised religious observances.

INEC had earlier fixed Saturday, February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, and Saturday, March 6, 2027, for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

What the Commission is saying
The Commission explained that the timetable was developed in strict compliance with the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Electoral Act 2022, and its 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections.

According to INEC, its regulations made since 2019 provide that elections to the offices of President and Vice President, as well as the National Assembly, shall hold on the third Saturday of February in a general election year. Governorship and state assembly elections are to follow two weeks later.

In faithful observance of these extant legal and regulatory provisions, the Commission fixed Saturday, 20th February 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections and Saturday, 6th March 2027, for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections,” the statement read.
Despite defending the legal basis for the dates, INEC said it remains sensitive to concerns that may affect voter participation and the overall conduct of the elections.

“In view of these representations, the Commission is currently undertaking consultations and may, where necessary, seek appropriate legislative intervention to address the concerns raised, while ensuring that any adjustment remains consistent with constitutional and statutory requirements,” INEC said.
“The Commission wishes to assure the public that it remains sensitive to all legitimate concerns that may impact electoral participation and the overall conduct of elections,” it added.

Backstory
INEC had on Friday announced presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, with governorship and state polls on March 6, following fixed regulations for the third Saturday in February.

However, many have criticized the Commission, calling it insensitive and arguing fasting could sap physical endurance needed for long queues, while some accused the Christian chairman of bias.

One of the strong voices against the timetable is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must urgently reconsider the February 20, 2027 date it has announced for the general elections.
“That date falls squarely within the Ramadan period (February 7 – March 8, 2027), a sacred season of fasting, reflection, and spiritual devotion for millions of Nigerian Muslims.
“Elections are not mere administrative rituals; they are national exercises that demand maximum participation, physical endurance, and collective focus.
“Fixing such a critical civic exercise in the middle of a major religious observance reflects poor judgment and a troubling lack of sensitivity to the nation’s socio-religious realities,” Atiku said in a post on his X handle.
What you should know
Earlier on Thursday, INEC had informed the National Assembly that it requires N873.78 billion to conduct the 2027 general elections.

The agency also demanded N171 billionto fund its operations in the 2026 fiscal year.

The N873.78bn proposed for the 2027 elections represents a significant increase from the N313.4 billion released by the Federal Government for the conduct of the 2023 general election.

PoliticsUS War Jets Drop Weapons In Borno by TITOPE(op): 10:17am On Feb 15
No fewer than three United States military aircraft landed in Nigeria between Thursday and Friday.

The aircraft, it was gathered, landed at military bases in Borno and other northeastern states.

Senior officers at the Defence Headquarters disclosed that the aircraft carried ammunition sent to Nigeria by the American government.

The officers, in separate interviews with our correspondents, said the development was part of US interventions to support Nigeria in the fight against insecurity.

“Following Nigeria-US bilateral talks on security, the American government will not only deploy soldiers but also provide necessary logistics, including ammunition, to fight the insurgents,” one of the officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

Another high ranking officer explained that the delivery was part of operational logistics, noting that the military often requires replenishment of ammunition after operations.

“I know that recently US aircraft came to supply ammunition for our platforms, and that wasn’t the first time. So, what you are saying may be true, though I have not been officially briefed.

“We go for operations and use different calibres of ammunition, which need to be replaced.

“The US and the Nigerian government, under the coordination of the NSA, are working together to end insecurity in the country. So, we should expect more deployments of aircraft and troops,” he added.

The New York Times on Saturday reported that US military aircraft landed in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Thursday night.

By Friday evening, the paper reported that three planes could be seen at the base, with equipment being offloaded from one.

“These initial flights are the vanguard of what will be a stream of C-17 transport flights into three main locations across Nigeria,” a US Department of Defense official told the newspaper.

An X account @mobilisingniger, operated by a user who claimed to be a counter-terrorism expert, also disclosed on Friday that a US Air Force military transport aircraft C30J landed at the Kaduna International Airport after departing from Ghana.

It suggested that the Kaduna Depot might serve as a potential training hub for US personnel deployed to train the Nigerian military.

“A US Air Force military transport aircraft C30J has landed at Kaduna International Airport after departing from Ghana earlier this (Friday) evening. The movement is fuelling speculation that US personnel may utilise the Kaduna Depot as a potential training hub in collaboration with the Nigerian military. This signals a potential deepening of US–Nigeria security engagement amid ongoing regional security challenges,” the post read.

Another user, Brant Philip, who claimed to be a tracker on X, said there had been a “massive delivery of equipment” to the Maiduguri Airbase, Borno State.

“The US Air Force C-130J-30 cargo aircraft flew to northeast Nigeria today (Friday) from Accra, Ghana, following the same route as the two previous C-17A, a mass delivery of equipment seems to be ongoing,” he wrote.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, had yet to respond to an inquiry on the matter as of the time of filing this report.

US deploys military officers

The United States President, Donald Trump, had in 2025 declared that he would send military forces to Nigeria if the government failed to stop what he described as genocide against Christians.

Following his threat and the declaration of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, the US carried out an airstrike on Islamic State fighters in Sokoto State on Christmas Day.

Both the US and Nigeria have since deepened engagements on enhancing security in the country.

The New York Times reported that the first wave of personnel had arrived in the country.

It stated that the development marked the beginning of a deployment of the 200 American intelligence analysts, advisers and trainers to assist the country’s armed forces in targeted counterterrorism operations, partly aimed at protecting Nigerian Christians.

The New York Times further disclosed that several additional aircraft carrying troops and equipment were expected to land over the weekend, with the flow continuing in the coming weeks.

Experts react

Reacting to the development, a retired officer of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, Chris Andrew, said the reported arrival of US personnel should not be misconstrued as a combat deployment.

According to him, the Americans were not bringing fighting troops but technical expertise, particularly in drone operations and precision air capabilities.

Andrew said, “It is what it is—nothing more, nothing less. They are not bringing combat troops. Recently, Nigeria has been engaging countries like Turkey and others on drone technology. We already operate locally made drones and Chinese-made drones, but when it comes to advanced drone technology, the West—especially the United States—has the capacity to train us effectively.”

He noted that Nigeria’s recent air operations had shown significant improvement following engagements with the United States, particularly after the Christmas Day bombardment of terrorist hideouts.

“They did not buy us aircraft or attack helicopters. What they are doing is teaching us how to carry out operations with precision,” he said.

Andrew also disclosed that he had heard the US might establish a drone base in Nigeria, a move he described as long overdue, especially following the withdrawal of American forces from Niger.

He said, “With the exit of the United States from Niger, which hosted their drone base, I expected Nigeria to seize that opportunity. Some people ask what the US wants in return, but that is not the issue. The issue is terrorism. Even if they want everything in return, at least they are helping to solve one major problem.”

He added that if he were advising the government, he would support relocating such a facility to the Sambisa Forest, arguing that its presence would significantly deter terrorist activities.

Also speaking, a security expert, Chidi Omeje, described the development as a success of Nigeria’s soft diplomacy.

According to him, failure to properly engage the United States could have been diplomatically damaging for Nigeria.

Omeje said, “It would have been humiliating if Nigeria had not engaged properly. I am glad the government remained calm and turned the initial aggression from the Trump-era rhetoric into partnership and mutual respect.”

He said the bilateral discussions must have clearly defined the scope of the US deployment, stressing that any support that enhances Nigeria’s capacity should be welcomed. If it is training, intelligence support or technology-driven intelligence, whatever increases our capacity and helps our troops do their job is welcome.”

However, Omeje cautioned that Nigeria must retain full sovereignty over any cooperation.

“What would not be acceptable is humiliation—foreign troops operating without our consent or bombs being dropped on our territory without approval,” he said.

He added that Nigerians bearing the brunt of terrorism, banditry and insurgency were more concerned about solutions than the method.

“If this partnership helps us stamp out terrorism and violent crime, then it is acceptable. People at the receiving end just want their lives back,” he said.

Politics2027 Polls: Key Dates Announced As INEC Releases Official Election Calendar by TITOPE(op): 7:46pm On Feb 13
2027 Polls: INEC Fixes 20th February for Presidential and National Assembly Elections, 6th March for Governorship and State Assembly Elections
#NigeriaDecides2027

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, has formally released the Notice of Election and the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Elections, setting February 20, 2027, as the date for the Presidential and National Assembly polls.

Addressing members of the press in Abuja on Friday, the INEC Chairman described the announcement as “a significant milestone in our democratic journey” and a constitutional obligation aimed at consolidating Nigeria’s democracy.

According to the Commission:
* Presidential & National Assembly Elections – February 20, 2027
* Governorship & State Houses of Assembly Elections – March 6, 2027
The elections will cover the offices of:
* President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
* Governors and Deputy Governors (except in Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ondo and Osun States)
* Members of the Senate
* Members of the House of Representatives
* Members of the State Houses of Assembly
Prof. Amupitan emphasized that the release of the Notice complies strictly with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates publication not later than 360 days before the election date.

The INEC Chairman addressed recent speculation surrounding election dates, noting that some individuals had attempted to preempt the Commission by circulating unofficial schedules.
“For some time now, this has been a subject of speculation,” he said, adding that such actions were misleading and orchestrated by detractors. He reaffirmed that only INEC has the constitutional authority to fix election dates.

INEC is closely monitoring ongoing amendments to the Electoral Act, 2022, currently before the National Assembly. While welcoming reforms that could strengthen the electoral framework, the Commission stressed its obligation to operate within the existing law until any amendments are duly enacted.

“The timely announcement of the election date allows political parties, civil society organisations, and the electorate to prepare adequately,” Prof. Amupitan noted.

Under the approved timetable:
* Political party primaries must hold within the statutory period.
* Submission of nomination forms must comply strictly with the designated window.
* Campaigns will commence as provided by law and end 24 hours before Election Day.
The Chairman warned that the Commission would not hesitate to enforce compliance with electoral laws and timelines.

Reaffirming INEC’s independence and neutrality, Prof. Amupitan outlined key priorities for the 2027 polls, including:
* Expanded deployment of technology to enhance transparency;
* Continuous cleaning and updating of the National Register of Voters;
* Strengthened collaboration with security agencies to ensure peaceful elections;
* Increased voter education and stakeholder engagement.
He urged political parties to conduct peaceful primaries, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and uphold internal democracy, while appealing to citizens to maintain peace throughout the electoral cycle.

Describing the 2027 General Elections as a collective national responsibility, the INEC Chairman called on government institutions, the media, security agencies, civil society groups, and Nigerians at large to play their roles in safeguarding the integrity of the process.

“As we commence this important national exercise, I assure Nigerians that the Commission is fully prepared and determined to deliver elections that reflect the sovereign will of the people,” he declared.

Titope Blog Reporting

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, who presented the proposed budget before the Senate and House of Representatives joint committee on Electoral Matters, divided the budget into five major parts, which include:

N375.75 billion for election operations.
N92.31 billion for election administrative costs.
N209.21 billion for election technology costs.
N154.90 billion for election capital costs.
N41.61 billion for miscellaneous expenses.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has presented a budget estimate of N873.77 billion to the National Assembly for the conduct of the 2027 General Elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, led the commission’s management team to a joint sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Electoral Matters, chaired by Simon Lalong and Bayo Balogun.

The commission also submitted its 2025 budget performance report and proposed N171.91 billion as its 2026 budget estimate.

Presenting the proposal, Amupitan stressed the need to strengthen the financial independence of the electoral body. He urged the lawmakers to adopt a first-line charge mechanism for INEC’s statutory allocation and to discontinue the envelope budgeting system.

Members of the joint committee assured the commission of legislative backing, but urged it to remain focused strictly on its constitutional mandate of conducting free, fair and credible elections.

The Lawmakers cautioned the commission against venturing into projects outside its core responsibilities, including the construction or funding of hospitals and other non-electoral initiatives.

The committee also indicated it may review the proposed election budget upward to accommodate a projected increase in the allowances of about 450,000 National Youth Service Corps members expected to serve as ad hoc staff during the elections.

“My Doctor Asked Why I Didn’t Use a Sperm Donor or My Brother-In-Law To Get Pregnant Instead of My Husband” — Actor Nkubi’s Wife Reveals

Media personality Nkubi’s wife, Vivian, has shared a shocking experience during a medical checkup in an interview with Pulse One-on-One. She revealed how a doctor questioned her decision to conceive with her husband, highlighting prejudice and lack of sensitivity in the healthcare system.

She said, “When I did my anomaly scan and handed it to the doctor, he was like, ‘Does anyone have a trait of dwarfism in your family?’ Then I said, ‘Yes. It is my husband.’”

The doctor reportedly asked, “‘Why didn’t you go to your brother-in-law or even go outside to get pregnant instead of getting pregnant for your husband, or even get a sperm donor?’ And yes, that is what a doctor told me. They are not giving equal rights in this country at all.” She concluded.

PoliticsAbuja Satellite Towns Set For Economic Boom As Minister Unveils Strategic Road by TITOPE(op): 6:37pm On Feb 06
Abuja Satellite Towns Set for Economic Boom as Minister Unveils Strategic Road Network Plan

Residents of Satellite Towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are set for what officials describe as unprecedented economic and infrastructural transformation, as the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, unveiled details of an ambitious road development drive across key communities.

The Minister gave the hint while answering questions from Journalists after ongoing projects inspection tour in Karu, Karshi, Bwari- Kubwa within the Satellite Towns of the nation's capital on Friday.

Wike said the initiative was part of a presidential directive to build a strategic and resilient road network that extends beyond Abuja city centre to underserved communities.

“It’s actually a directive from the President that we develop a strategic and resilient road network across the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike said.

According to him, the renewed focus on Satellite Towns is aimed at correcting years of infrastructure imbalance and unlocking economic opportunities in fast-growing communities.

One of the centrepieces of the initiative is the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road, a critical link that had stalled for years before the current administration intervened.

Wike disclosed that the contract was terminated and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company to accelerate delivery.

“Because of the importance of that road, we felt we couldn’t wait any longer for progress. The contract was terminated and re-awarded, and they have started work in earnest,” he stated.

He expressed satisfaction with the reconstruction of roads in Karu handled by indigenous contractor, Abdul Val Construction Company, describing the quality of work as commendable.

Another major infrastructure boost is the Bwari–Kubwa Road, a 16–17 kilometre stretch expected to significantly ease traffic flow and stimulate commerce along the axis.

“It’s a critical structural development that will boost economic activity in communities between Bwari and Kubwa,” the minister said.

Wike revealed that the Bwari–Kubwa Road is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, as well as other key infrastructure projects across the Satellite Towns are expected to be delivered before the end of the year.

He also directed the National Commission for Civic Awareness to ensure landscaping and environmental improvements in Karshi and adjoining communities are completed within the year, stressing that development must be holistic.

Highlighting the broader impact, the minister noted that improved road infrastructure would enhance mobility, attract investment, raise property values and improve overall quality of life for residents.

“People who have never experienced proper road infrastructure before are now seeing real change,” Wike said,

He added that the projects align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

With multiple road networks under construction simultaneously, the FCT Administration says the focus on Satellite Towns signals a shift toward inclusive development aimed at spreading growth beyond the capital’s city centre.

PoliticsAlleged N738.6m Fraud: Judge Threatens To Revoke Maina’s Bail by TITOPE(op): 6:29pm On Feb 06
Alleged N738.6m Fraud: Judge Threatens to Revoke Maina’s Bail

The trial of Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, continued on Thursday, February 5, 2026 before Justice Abubakar Kutigi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Asokoro with the judge threatening to revoke the defendant’s bail for employing multiple antics to stall his trial.

Justice Kutigi’s anger followed the presentation of Maina’s hospital referral in court by the defence lawyer, Mr Achibong and the lawyer’s request for adjournment as a result of the referral, which named no ill health.

The judge frowned at the fact that the case has not gathered any momentum in the past four years as result of diverse antics of the defendant to stall his trial, despite all the opportunities being given to him by the court to respond to fraud allegations against him. The judge regretted that Maina’s antics “have stalled proceedings completely,” noting that the last time the defendant was present in court was four years ago and considered revoking his bail to force him take his trial seriously.

While refusing the defence lawyer’s request for the adjournment of Thursday’s proceedings, Justice Kutigi disclosed that he has got the commitment of the chambers of the defence lawyers to henceforth proceed with the trial with or without Maina’s presence in court.

With the trashing of the adjournment request, prosecution counsel, Francis Usani proceeded to present the 14th Prosecution Witness PW14, Gogi Mohammed, who began where he left off in his evidence-in-chief at the last adjourned date.

Led in the evidence-in-chief by the prosecution counsel, the witness, an investigator with the by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, disclosed that the investigative team’s visit to Kaduna revealed that “the first defendant used members of staff of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, HoSF to siphon funds through payments of fictitious contract, allowances and biometric enrolment exercise for pensioners.

“In our efforts to discover where the funds were hidden, we discovered a certain relative of the defendant, one Maimuna Usman, who resides in Kaduna, who was a custodian of his assets. We went to her residence, somewhere in Gwando MSC Quarters. We arrested her and executed a search warrant on her residence and discovered titled documents, deed of assignments, certificate of occupancy of over 30 properties, located mostly in Abuja and Kaduna State. In the course of interviewing her, she disclosed that the documents were given to her by the first defendant,” he said.

Further in his testimony, he stated that, after interviews with real estate agents who sold the properties, the Commission filed for the forfeiture of the properties.

According to the witness, “Some of the properties were paid for in cash, particularly the property located in Jabi, Abuja. It was paid by Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina in cash in the sum of $2 million (Two million dollars); and another, located in Life Camp, Abuja, was purchased in cash at the cost of $1.7 million (One Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Dollars). Another property, located in Katoru Road, Kaduna was purchased at the cost of N100 million and it was paid for in cash.”

Testifying further, he said, “My lord, in the course of my earlier testimony, I mentioned Hamilton Global Services Limited, owned by Osarenkhoe Afe. He was part of the Pension Reform Task Team, headed by Abdulrasheed Maina. He was introduced to the team by the former HoSF, Mr Stephen Orasanye at the instance of Maina. The said Afe was given contract for biometric enrolment capture at the sum of N63 million, based on the contract award letter, but before the expiration of the contract period, the company requested for a contract extension and additional payment of N136 million, bringing the contract sum to N199 million. We requested for Innovative Solution account statement and upon analysis, we discovered that a total sum of N224 million was paid to the company in respect of the same contract. We invited the owner of the company, Robert Eakazobo. He admitted in the course of the interview that the contract was inflated at the instance of the first defendant.

“We also discovered in the course of analysing his account that out of the N224 million paid to Innovative Solution, he transferred the sum of N166 million to Fredrick Hamilton’s account. Further analysis of the account showed that he was paid N1.19 million directly from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation for biometric enrolment. In the course of the interview, Afe informed the investigative team that the money he received from Innovative Solutions and the ones he received directly from the Office of the Head of Service, totalled about N280 million and he gave N250 million in tranches to the first defendant, usually through issuing of post-dated cheques to him,” he said.

The witness identified both the extra-judicial statements of the first defendant and second defendants, consisting of six and three pages respectively, written by them in their own handwriting in the Commission’s office. However, the defence team of both defendants objected to their admissibility on the claim that they were obtained under duress.

To determine the true state under which the defendants wrote their statements in EFCC’s office, the court adjourned till February 20 and 26 for trial-within-trial.

Maina was arraigned alongside Ann Igwe Olachi in 2019 on a nine-count charge, bordering on receipt of stolen funds to the tune of N738, 612,019.99 (Seven Hundred and Thirty-eight Million, Six Hundred and Twelve Thousand, Nineteen Naira, Ninety-nine Kobo).

Count one of the charge reads: “Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina on or about 2nd July, 2010 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly received the sum of N155,000,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Five Million Naira Only) from Fredrick Hamilton Global Services Limited through one Osarenkhoe Afe (both of whom are facing a separate charge at the Federal High Court, knowing that the said money was stolen from the Federal Government of Nigeria under the guise of contract for biometric enrolment of pensioners. Receiving stolen property is punishable under Section 317 (read in conjunction with Section 316 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, vol. 4 Laws of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, 2007.”

Count two reads: “Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina and Igwe Ann Olachi between July and December 2011 in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly received an aggregate sum of N153, 146, 719.99 (One Hundred and Fifty Three Million, One Hundred and Forty Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Nineteen Naira, Ninety Nine Kobo) from Xangee Technologies Limited, (which company is facing a separate charge before this court) knowing that the said money was stolen from the Federal Government of Nigeria under the guise of contract for biometric enrolment of pensioners. Receiving stolen property is punishable under Section 317 (read in conjunction with Section 316 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, vol. 4 Laws of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, 2007.”

Both defendants pleaded “not guilty,” thus eliciting their trial.

The trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, continued on Thursday, February 5, 2026, before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, with the Eight Prosecution Witness, PW8, Gabriel Ochoche, testifying how the sum of N46,505,000( Forty Six Million, Five Hundred and Five Thousand Naira) was transferred into the account of American International School

Bello is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 19-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of ₦80,246,470,088.88.

The prosecution called Prosecution Witness 8 (PW8), Gabriel Ochoche, a compliance officer with First City Monument Bank (FCMB), who testified pursuant to a subpoena.

Led in evidence by Olukayode Enitan, SAN, the subpoena was tendered without objection from the defence and was admitted by the court as Exhibit 36.

PW8 told the court that among several payments there were payments to educational institutions, including a ₦30 million transfer on November 1, 2021, to American International School / Abdul Bashir, as well as another transfer of ₦16,505,400 to American International School.

PW8 also confirmed that he was in court with the statement of account, certificate of compliance and account opening documents of Kunfayakun Global Limited, Account No: 7819613011, covering transactions from June 1, 2021, to August 31, 2022. The documents were admitted in evidence as Exhibit 37 without objection.
When asked to confirm the period covered, the witness stated: “The period covered is from June 29, 2021, to December 31, 2024.”

Explaining the structure of the statement of account, PW8 said it contains seven columns, namely: date, reference, description, value date, deposit, withdrawal and balance.

Reading from Exhibit 37, PW8 identified several major transactions, including an NIP transfer of ₦700 million from Keyless Nature Limited on December 15, 2021, and an RTGS inflow of ₦400 million on December 17, 2021, from Access Bank, by order of the same company. He explained that RTGS is a transfer carried out by one bank on behalf of a customer.

On November 2, 2021, PW8 confirmed multiple inflows from Gadonkaya Global Concept into Kunfayakun’s account—₦10 million, ₦10 million and ₦8.96 million—alongside another outflow of ₦34,506,600 to American School and China Payment / Abdul Bashir.

PW8 also told the court that on February 18, 2022, there were six separate NIP transfers of ₦100 million each from Ejadams Essence Limited, totaling ₦600 million.

Asked to confirm the total inflow, the witness said: “Yes, my lord, I confirm that ₦600 million was received from Ejadams Essence Limited.”

He further identified an RTGS inflow of ₦325 million on February 21, 2022, with a value date of February 18, 2022, from Access Bank, by order of Ejadams.

Earlier in the proceedings, Prosecution Witness 7 (PW7), Olomotane Egoro, a compliance officer with Access Bank, continued his testimony under cross-examination.

Defence counsel drew his attention to Exhibit 33(cool, particularly an entry of June 22, 2022, which the witness confirmed was an outflow of ₦20 million for the supply of educational materials. When asked if it was a cash withdrawal, Egoro replied:
“No, my lord.”

He also confirmed that he could not identify the beneficiary from the document.

Egoro acknowledged multiple cash withdrawals made by Yakubu Siyaka between January 9, 2019, and December 30, 2022, totaling over ₦552 million.
Explaining the bank’s obligations, he said: “The customer can use his money as he likes; however, the bank has a reporting obligation where transactions do not fit the customer’s profile or fall under money laundering typologies.”

He further confirmed that Access Bank filed a Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), but stated that by law, its contents could not be disclosed in court.
When defence counsel J.B Daudu SAN attempted to question the witness on the contents of the STR, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, objected, arguing that questioning a document not before the court contravened the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

Justice Nwite upheld the objection, ruling that: “Counsel cannot ask questions on the contents of a document not before the court.”

Following the rectification of payment receipts, the Certified True Copy (CTC) of proceedings from Justice Obiora Egwuatu’s court dated May 12, 2025, was admitted in evidence as Exhibit 35(D2) without objection.

Additional documents admitted included: Exhibit 34(1): Kogi State Government House account opening package, exhibit 34(2): Kogi State Government House Administration account and exhibit 33(6): E-Traders International Limited account opening package and statement of account.

PW7 confirmed signatories, transaction patterns and Access Bank’s compliance oversight across its branches.

With no re-examination by the prosecution, Justice Nwite discharged PW7 from the witness box and adjourned the matter to March 3 and March 9, 2026, for continuation of trial.

CrimeBandits Have Abducted The Chief Imam Of The Janjala Central Mosque, Malam Bello by TITOPE(op): 12:55pm On Feb 06
Bandits have abducted the Chief Imam of the Janjala Central Mosque, Malam Bello Abdullahi , a Fulani leader in the community, Alhaji Shehu Bello, and a woman in the Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to Daily Trust, within the last few days, bandits invaded several communities—including Iddo, Gidan-Makeri, Kohoto, and Janjala—abducting numerous residents and rustling cattle.

Following these incessant attacks, residents of Kohoto, a community neighboring Janjala, fled their homes on Saturday.

This followed a seven-day ultimatum issued by bandits for the community to raise N6 million for the release of the abducted wife and four children of a local vigilante.

Confirming the latest incident via telephone on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, a community leader told our reporter that the bandits struck again on Tuesday around 9pm

He said the gunmen whisked away the Chief Imam and the Fulani leader along with a woman.

The source added that the bandits, who arrived in large numbers wielding AK-47 rifles, first invaded the Chief Imam’s residence before proceeding to the home of the Fulani leader. The invasion has thrown the entire community into confusion, forcing several residents to fled.

“Even as I am talking to you right now, several people have fled their houses to Kagarko town, while others are in Sabon-Wuse staying with relatives,” he said.

The community leader expressed frustration over the repeated attacks, noting that he has sent several distress calls to security operatives without receiving a positive response.

“Our people are under siege. We have tried to reach out to the security operatives in Kagarko about the bandits attacking our people for over a week now, but nothing has been done,” he lamented.

CelebritiesMen Must Be Accountable For The Lives They Help Create: #prettytommy Speaks Out by TITOPE(op): 12:49pm On Feb 06
#Prettytommy Speaks Out: “Men Must Be Accountable for the Lives They Help Create”

The heartbreaking death of Aunty Ajara has once again sparked conversations about male responsibility, women’s health, and the heavy toll of pregnancy complications.
Social commentator Prettytommy did not hold back in his reaction, calling for accountability and empathy from men.

“The man who impregnated Aunty Ajara should be held accountable.
Men need to understand the serious health implications pregnancy can have on a woman.
The baby may have been too big for her body, which possibly led to her liver complications.
Before impregnating a woman, a man should consider whether her health can sustain a pregnancy.

Do you understand the pain, trauma, and damage you may have caused her?
Now she is gone.”
Prettytommy’s words echo a painful truth — women’s bodies bear the burden of reproduction, often at great physical and emotional cost. Too many women suffer complications, or even lose their lives, because society fails to prioritize their health and choices.
This tragedy should serve as a wake-up call: responsibility in relationships must go beyond love and pleasure — it must include care, awareness, and accountability.

Poverty Is a Mindset; Think on a Higher Frequency Instead — Billionaire’s Son, Siraheem Okoya

Billionaire businessman Okoya’s son, Siraheem, has stirred reactions online following his remarks on Carterefe’s recent livestream, where he shared his views on success, mindset, and personal growth.

During the session, Siraheem stressed that poverty is largely a product of how people think, insisting that individuals who operate on a “higher frequency” can always achieve more in life.

“My brother, poverty is a mindset. So far you are thinking on a higher frequency, you can always achieve. Don’t limit yourself,” he said.

He further described the human brain as the most powerful tool given by God, urging young people to use it wisely to elevate their lives and ambitions.

“In life, the brain is the most powerful tool, and God has given us that brain. It is a mindset, and if you can elevate yourself to always aspire for more…,” he added.

Investment10 Fake Investments To Avoid In 2026 by TITOPE(op): 11:45am On Feb 04
1️⃣ Ponzi Schemes Disguised as “High-Profit” Platforms:

See, my dear, any platform that promises you 200%, 100%, 50%, 20%, or even 10% returns in a few days or weeks will eventually collapse. They always do. And people are always left in tears. No genuine financial investment should even promise you 10% profit in a month, that’s 120% per annum, which is completely unrealistic. Beware. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

2️⃣ Pyramid Referral Systems:

If they tell you that the only way to make money is by recruiting others, run. Such systems are unsustainable and are mostly operated by scammers. Don’t allow charlatans to waste your time and money.

3️⃣ WhatsApp and Telegram “Double Your Money” Groups:

They invite you, you join, they collect your money, and promise to double it in weeks. Before you even finish dinner, they disappear. Zero accountability. Zero refunds. Pure tears.

4️⃣ Unverified Agricultural Investment Programs:

Those “Invest ₦100k and get ₦200k in 90 days” farm schemes usually have no real operations. Some may have small farms but collect money far beyond their capacity. They collapse quickly. Always verify before investing.

5️⃣ Fake Real Estate ‘Land Banking’ Schemes:

Many fake realtors promise massive land appreciation within months, yet you never get to see any land. They keep shifting stories until they disappear completely. Be very careful.

6️⃣ Unregistered Forex and Crypto Trading Platforms:

If a forex or crypto platform is not licensed by the SEC to operate in Nigeria, do not put your money there. Otherwise, you’re simply gambling. Many of these platforms vanish without warning.

7️⃣ Celebrity-Backed “Too-Good-to-Be-True” Schemes:

Scammers pay influencers to promote fake platforms. Once they gather enough victims, they disappear. Celebrities are often just advertisers, not investors. Never trust a scheme simply because a popular face is promoting it.

8️⃣ Scam ETFs and Fake “AI Trading Bots” :

They claim artificial intelligence trades on your behalf, but in reality, nothing is being traded. No transparency. No records. No verifiable activity. Avoid them completely.

9️⃣ Fake Government Grant Multipliers:

They ask you to pay money to “unlock” or “multiply” government grants. There is no such thing. They only want to steal your money. Run!

🔟 Work-From-Home Investment “Packages”:

They ask you to buy a package or product to start earning. That’s a major red flag. Once you pay, your money is gone. No real investment exists.

❇️ Protect your hard-earned money, even if it’s ₦20k or ₦5k.

There are many legitimate financial investment platforms in Nigeria, and I talk about them here almost every day. Stop chasing what does not exist. Stop being greedy. Be wise. Investment miracles are rare, anywhere in the world.

CelebritiesActress Angela Okorie Rearrested After Release From Suleja Prison by TITOPE(op): 10:45am On Feb 04
Actress Angela Okorie was this afternoon re-arrested by men of the FCT police command shortly after her release from the Suleja Correctional center.

She was rearrest based on a petition written against her by a businesswoman who claimed the actress owes her N5 million and has refused to pay. Another actress who is close to Angela and knows about the debt, prevailed on the businesswoman to write a petition against Angela which has now led to her rearrest. There are speculations that she might be detained today.
Recall that on January 26, Angela was arrested in Lagos and flown to Abuja where she was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Abuja on Cyberstalking and Cyberb$llying charges. The actress was charged following a petition written against her by her colleague, Mercy Johnson Okojie. Following her arraignment, the court ordered that she be remanded in Suleja Correction Center until the hearing on her bail application.
On January 30, the court granted her N5 million bail with one surety who must depose to affidavit of means and must be a level 13 civil servant.
The presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, said the surety must produce his appointment letter and letter of the last promotion in the service. The judge also ordered Okorie and her surety to submit two passport photographs to the court registrar and that the residence of the surety must be verified by the registrar. The judge held that Angela must be remanded in the Correctional center until her bail is perfected.

EducationBehind The Desk Of A Claims Officer by TITOPE(op): 10:33am On Feb 03
Behind the Desk of a Claims Officer: Prudence, Integrity, and the Commitment to Pay Genuine Claims Promptly

From the outside, an Insurance Claims Officer can look “stingy.” Slow. Too careful. Sometimes even intentionally difficult. But from inside the system, you know that what looks like resistance is often responsible. What looks like delay is usually diligence. And what sounds like refusal is, more often than not, protection of the pool that everyone depends on.
I say this not as theory, but from lived experience as a Claims Officer.

Claims are the heartbeat of insurance. Anyone can sell a policy. Anyone can smile while onboarding. But claims are where the promise is tested. When a loss happens, emotions are high. Expectations are immediate. And the pressure is real. You are dealing with people at their most vulnerable, sometimes angry, sometimes desperate, sometimes confused. In those moments, empathy matters. But so does discipline.

We are not stingy. We are prudent.

Prudence in claims means asking the uncomfortable questions. It means checking documents twice when once would be faster. It means validating facts, timelines, and policy terms even when the claimant feels it should be obvious. I have had cases where sympathy alone would have pushed me to approve a payment instantly. But sympathy does not replace policy. And speed without accuracy can quietly destroy the very system meant to help people.

As a Claims Officer, I learned early that every claim paid incorrectly is not a victimless act. It affects the insurer. It affects future premiums. It affects other policyholders whose genuine claims will come tomorrow. So when we insist on reports, assessments, surveys, and verifications, it is not to frustrate anyone. It is to ensure fairness across the board.

That said, prudence does not mean delay for delay’s sake.

One of the core principles I have held onto in my career is this. A genuine claim deserves prompt settlement. Once liability is established and documentation is complete, payment should not drag. I have pushed files. Followed up relentlessly. Escalated internally. Sometimes annoyed colleagues. All because I believe that once a claim is genuine, time becomes a moral issue. Delayed payment is a silent form of injustice.

Through my experience, I have handled straightforward claims that were settled smoothly because the process was respected. I have also seen fraudulent or exaggerated claims cleverly presented, and that is where prudence proved its worth. Saying no in those moments was not cruelty. It was integrity. And interestingly, those are the same controls that make it possible to say yes confidently to genuine claims.

Insurance works on trust. Claims officers are simply the custodians of that trust.

We sit at the intersection of policy wording, human emotion, and financial responsibility. It is not an easy seat. But it is a necessary one. Our goal has never been to deny claims. Our goal is to pay the right claim, to the right person, at the right time, for the right amount.

So when you hear a Claims Officer say, “Let us verify,” or “We need one more document,” or “This claim is outside the policy terms,” understand this. We are not being stingy. We are being careful so that when a genuine claim comes, and it always does, we can pay it promptly and with confidence.

And that, I think, is the real professionalism of claims.

CultureStop Addressing Me As Bro Or Blood, 22-year-old Ondo Monarch Warns Public by TITOPE(op): 11:14am On Jan 23
Stop addressing me as bro or blood, 22-year-old Ondo monarch warns public

The palace of the Arujale-Ojime of Okeluse Kingdom, Ondo State, has issued a stern warning to the general public against what it described as disrespectful modes of address directed at the 22-year-old traditional ruler, Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II.

In a statement issued on behalf of the palace on Friday, the Chief of Staff to the monarch, Prince Adefemi Olorunfemi, stressed that the king must be addressed strictly as His Royal Majesty at all times, noting that any deviation from this would no longer be tolerated.

According to him, some people are hiding under the guise of addressing the monarch as “bro or blood” particularly to disrespect him.

The statement read, “I write in my capacity as Amb. Prince Adefemi Michael Olorunfemi, Chief of Staff to the Arujale-Ojima of Okeluse Kingdom, Ondo State, to address an important matter that requires the attention of the general public. Kindly note that Alayeluwa Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II is to be addressed strictly as His Royal Majesty at all times.

“Any other form of address is unacceptable. The fact that His Royal Majesty is the youngest king in Yoruba land does not give room for disrespect in any form.

Addressing our revered monarch with terms such as ‘bro,’ ‘blood,’ or any casual or demeaning expressions is highly inappropriate and will no longer be tolerated. Such actions will be met with strong and decisive measures. His Majesty’s leniency and calm disposition should not be mistaken for weakness, nor should it be taken as permission to do the wrong thing. Especially for those who call themselves Yoruba, we should know better. Culture, tradition, and respect for constituted authority are values we must uphold at all times.

“Regardless of your status, age, or position in society, the king must be respected. This is non-negotiable. His Royal Majesty is not just our father; he is Igbakeji awon orisa, the representative of the gods on earth. The throne he occupies is sacred, and respect for the throne is respect for our heritage and identity as a people.”

The palace called on residents of Okeluse Kingdom and the general public to always uphold the dignity of the throne, stressing that respect for the monarch remained central to the preservation of Yoruba culture and tradition.

“We urge everyone, within and outside Okeluse Kingdom, to conduct themselves accordingly and uphold the dignity of the palace and the person of His Royal Majesty. Respect for the throne is non-negotiable,” the statement added.

Oba Akinghare ascended the throne of his forefathers at age 16 as a secondary school student.

The kingship fell on him as the only son out of four children of his late father who was the monarch of the town.

Since the tradition of the ancient town demands that the first son of the monarch who passed on should automatically ascend the throne, the teenager was left with no option other than to become the traditional ruler of the town.

The kingmakers of the town wasted no time in pronouncing the teenager as the new traditional ruler of Okeluse, while the state government expressly approved the choice of the people of the town.
