A Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to up to 18 months in prison for obtaining so-called abortion pills online and providing them to her teenage daughter to end her pregnancy.

Jennifer Ann Whalen, 39, of Washingtonville, a single mother who works as a nursing home aide, pleaded guilty in August to obtaining the miscarriage-inducing pills from an online
site in Europe for her daughter, 16, who did not want to have the child.

Whalen was sentenced on Friday by Montour County Court of Common Pleas Judge Gary Norton to serve 12 months to 18 months in prison for violating a state law that requires abortions to be performed by physicians.

She was also fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service after her release. The felony offense called for up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Matthew Bingham Banks, Whalen’s lawyer, previously told Reuters criminal prosecutions of this kind were not common.

Whalen told authorities there was no local clinic available to perform an abortion and her daughter did not have health insurance to cover a hospital abortion, the Press Enterprise newspaper of Bloomsburg reported.
Her daughter experienced severe cramping and bleeding after taking the pills and Whalen took her to a hospital near her home for treatment, the newspaper said.

The closest abortion clinic to Whalen’s home is about 74 miles away in Harrisburg.
The Pennsylvania case follows the prosecution of a Florida man who pleaded guilty to tricking his girlfriend into taking an abortion pill. He was sentenced in January to 13 years in prison and $28,500 restitution. In June, Florida toughened state law to allow for prosecutions in the death of non-viable fetuses.

It was the social media campaign of the year. #BringBackOurGirls awoke the world to the ravages of Boko Haram, an al-Qaeda-linked terror group in Nigeria, and the plight of the millions of people who live in the midst of their insurgency. At the heart of the message were hundreds of missing schoolgirls, abducted in April from the remote village of Chibok by Boko Haram fighters, who vowed to make them into slaves. Continue...

The #BringBackOurGirls hashtag channeled both sympathy from abroad and local outrage and concern in Nigeria, with many angry at the government of President Goodluck Jonathan for being unable to free the captured women.

But four months later, the girls have yet to be brought back despite the efforts of the Nigerian military as well as U.S. counter-terrorism forces deployed in neighboring Chad. More than 200 girls remain missing in suspected Boko Haram captivity. Others have perished from snakebite, illness and deprivation in the wild.

Boko Haram itself has continued its slaughter this summer, and seized more territory in the country's restive northeast. Over the weekend, it stormed towns along Nigeria's border with Cameroon, killing dozens of innocents.

Nigerian forces are now fighting Boko Haram in pitched battles around Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, the main hotbed of Boko Haram's operations. The U.N. reports that at least 1.5 million people have been displaced by the conflict since Jonathan's government declared a state of emergency in May.

But the gravity of the moment hasn't stopped some in Nigeria from appropriating the tragic hashtag for rather cynical purposes. Banners emerged in the capital Abuja over the weekend showing Jonathan alongside a new slogan: #BringBackGoodluck2015. The campaign appears to be the work of supporters of the president, keen for his reelection in presidential polls next February. It's not clear whether Jonathan has officially endorsed the new hashtag, but its seeming ubiquity suggests that he is not opposed to it.

Several online videos show Kanzawa working his magic on a variety of animals – deer, kangaroos, mongooses, lion cubs, tiny rats, hamsters, and more. Several attempts have been made to test Kanzawa’s authenticity. One of the most recent ones was during a documentary film aired on the History Channel. The host of the show brought Kanzawa to the Sweet Water Alpaca Ranch in California, where he had to work his magic on a herd of Alpacas.
Ranch owner and Alpaca expert Cecilia Secka said that Alpacas are naturally curious animals, and very aware of what’s going on around them. To top it off, the test was conducted during the Alpacas’ feeding time, when they were the most active.
Kanzawa was brought to the herd, and he began to walk towards the Alpacas, performing various motions with his right palm. Interestingly, the video footage shows the Alpacas dropping to the ground, one by one. “They are unusually subdued,” Cecilia commented at that point. “It’s uncommon to kind of see them go down like this.”
Once the Alpacas were all down, Kanzawa started to back away from the herd, because he believes that his power is stronger from a distance. “They’re all down apart from the alpha female,” said Cecilia. “To me it would be pretty amazing if she lies down.” The alpha female, whose job was to protect the rest of the herd while they slept, let out a few yawns and, finally, succumbed to Kanzawa’s powers.
Cecilia was amazed, she said this was not normal behavior for Alpacas, and especially not for the alpha female. “He also cured one of my females that had come down with a very strange paralysis that morning,” she later wrote on her website. “He used Chi on her and within 10 minutes she was fully restored and never had any more symptoms of lameness! It was quite extraordinary!”

Alabama Alligator
The gigantic alligator caught by a family in Alabama earlier this month has set a Safari Club International world record.

AL.com reports a pair of master measurers from
Safari Club International examined the 1,000-pound alligator on Friday, determining a total length of 15-feet, 9-inches.
That’s 13 inches longer than the organization’s previous world record American alligator, which had been killed in Texas.

The Alabama alligator was caught by the Stokes family after battling with it for more than five hours. It was hooked in a creek about 80 miles west of Montgomery.

Doctors say most necks have 7 vertebrae but 15 year old Chinese boy Fu Wengui (pictured above) has 10. As a young boy he was diagnosed with Congenital Scoliosis and an abnormal chest frame which made his neck grow extra three inches. This causes him a lot of

A 54 year old Valdelucio

inside a body bag after
doctors declared him
dead. His grieving younger brother got the
shock of his life after he
found Valdelucio
'wriggling around' inside
a zipped-up body bag in
a morgue in Brazil. Doctors claimed the man
had suffered
"respiratory and multiple
organ failure" and
declared him dead a few
hours after his family took him to the hospital
on Saturday August
23rd. His family then
took what they believed
was his corpse to the
morgue inside the Menandro de Farias
General Hospital in
Salvador, northeast
Brazil. The next morning Val's
brother Walterio was
allowed into the morgue
to dress his body ready
for his funeral later in the
day, only to get the shock of his life.

care unit of the same
hospital which wrongly
declared him dead and after checking him, he
was transferred to
another hospital, Santo
Antonio in Salvador. In a letter he wrote
yesterday, Val, who
cannot speak, said he
saw death. He wrote: "I, Valdelucio, saw
death at my feet,
but my faith was so
great that I was
cured. Before Irma
Dulce I said, do a miracle in me, and
she heard my
prayer. I saw my
mother telling me,
son, hold onto her
and you will be saved." The health department
for the state of Bahia ave
said they will open an
inquiry into the blunder. "We will meet with
the whole team
involved in the
patient's care to
clarify the chain of
events which allowed this to
