Business / Re: ‘nigeria To Generate Power From Nuclear Tech By 2019’ by Tmoni(m): 9:59am On Jun 12, 2010
@ Agitator

it is not maintenance free, you have to be on the ball very much with these sites

If the country decides to build the reactor in Delta state, i will bid for the contract to supply Lead containment suits to the country
Delta state is a very big NO-NO, make DT boys no cause mayhem

Ogun state is a relatively peaceful state and seems to have the necessary topological requirements
Business / Re: ‘nigeria To Generate Power From Nuclear Tech By 2019’ by Tmoni(m): 9:55am On Jun 12, 2010
If the reactors are built, there will be job opportunities or careers for

To name a few

at design phase
1. Project Manager
2. Head of Desgn
3. Lead Discipline Design Engineers (Civils, M& E, OHL)
4. Design Engineers
5. Surveyors

at construction phase
1. Project Manager (Client facing, Stakeholders, Govt liason)
2. Project Manager (Technical, subcontractors, third party suppliers)
3. Project Controls (Me hopefully cheesy )
4. HSE Manager & officals
5. Project administrators
6. Project QS
7. Iron bender  wink

at installation & commisioning phase
1. Lead Install & Commision engr
2. Install & commision engrs
3. FAT specialists

at handover phase (electricity running)
1. Site Manager
2. NEPA enginer
3. Maintenance engineers
4. Mr "turn off the light" at egbeda grin
Business / Re: ‘nigeria To Generate Power From Nuclear Tech By 2019’ by Tmoni(m): 9:07am On Jun 12, 2010
@ Ajanlekoko, i dont really know all the agencies or parastatals in naija but it is stupid to have a nuclear agency when we aint doing anything nuclear related

Naija is just mad, the newspaper article was talking about contracts for building hostels and office accomodation

No talk about feasibility studies, designs, prices, reactor type (Areva EPR or Toshiba AP100 or even the Korean system)

Hopefully, sometime soon, some reasonable person will be in charge of this agency and things can get started sha,
Main issue will still be transmossion and distribution

But if we get all the hostility in the naija delta sorted then we might not need these reactors
Webmasters / Re: The Most Popular Nigerian Bloggers by Tmoni(m): 8:45am On Jun 12, 2010
Vera Ezimora is a top one for me

Linda Ikeji too
Business / Re: ‘nigeria To Generate Power From Nuclear Tech By 2019’ by Tmoni(m): 8:33am On Jun 12, 2010
Thats an area of electricity production i have been looking at the moment

the good thing about it is that, it is quite clean, and

Nuclear Plants are quite self sufficient so electricity production is almost guaranteed, so far we pay for the enriched uranium thereby we minimise the "Nigerian" issues with power production (low water level in kainji or naija delta boys destroying gas pipelines)

Nuclear power producing plants are almost always secured by a branch of the military so that should reduce security fears, Nuclear plants most times are built close to rivers for fresh source of water to cool the reactors

Off the top of me head, i will propose a location in Ogun state, its a relatively peaceful state and has a lot of potential industrial customers

Main issue with Nuclear power is the cost, yet to confirm but it costs abour £5bn for a 1600MW station (Sizewell C)

I think it is feasible for us to generate power using nuclear energy, let them just wait until my next contract and i can provide experience grin grin
Sports / Re: Nairalanders Overcome Biased Online reporting on Nigeria !! by Tmoni(m): 12:58pm On Jun 02, 2010
@ dominique, maybe i should also send in my contempt for that article
how do u complain

meanwhile, just a quick glance at some of the other "notorious" (gang related, fracas driven) countries i.e the mexicos, brazils, north koreas

the stupid reporter tells you to adopt them for "good" reasons when you can clearly state the obvious e.g

Adopt them because:-

Mexico ---  Production and distribution of hard drugs (cocaine) might reduce as Capos, El Jefes and tooties will be busy catching up with the latest scores and maybe give the workers the day off. Kidnapping and murder of state officals will subside due to the togetherness of a country during sporting triumpths. Might be the best time for the president to grant amnesty to sub lieutanats.

Brazil - Ongoing gang wars WILL stop as the whole country watches a Kaka mesmerised goal. Best time to broker Truce between rival gangs as the joy of steamrolling Portugal gets into the nations head. Extradition of the notorious kingpin can be easily done by denying him access to TV or sateliite signal.

North Korea - as a Korean war is looming in the background, this tournament can prove to be the calm before the storm for Koreans. More Humanitarian Aid can get to the Koreans as countries in their group will want to repay the Korean favour of loosing gallantly and allowing them progress to the next stage. We might even get an unfamilar sight of "Our Dear Leader" in a jubilant mood (not always in his GB face). What the hell, North and South koreans may see "eye to eye" on the same pitch for the first time in decades without UN acting as a refreee.

Nigeria - too much enjoyment people. Almost the whole nation have second teams which they support tongue. They recently lost their president and one of their greatest music stars who might have penned a world cup theme for them. That gives dem motivation to win the cup. They will prolly be the country with the most government officials in SA tongue tongue

Just Kidding on naija sha but seriously, BBC and western world as a whole need to stop bashing Nigeria.

Politics / Re: Finance Minister, Aganga To Chair A World Bank Fund's Board by Tmoni(m): 4:56pm On Apr 27, 2010
I am no economist or corporate finance guru, i am just your average "brick and mortars" bloke but I honestly do not see the reason why we have to borrow money at this stage because:-

1. In the budget, the price of oil was assumed at a price significantly lower that what oil is trading now, so the so-called excess crude account should be enough to supplement the budget deficit

2. Apart from and even in the power sector, have they clearly (in express terms) identified what they want to use the money for. We keep on getting in the air arguments about (generation, distribution) but is there a clear scope of works e.g HV transmission line from PHC to Yenagoa

3. In order to cut the deficit, why cant the government look at efficiencies, making government work better, strealine systems, e.g stop the silly "around the world junketing" by government officials. Why did governors have to accompany Goodluck to washington, what was their input?. we have an embassy there so i presume these emabassies should be able to supervise and arrange a trip for the preseident, if they cnt do it then lets do a Libya and recall all our embassies

4. As metioned earlier, the new finance minister might only be in office for a year which is definately not enough time to implement projects with the borrowed sum

5. Our good ol friend (Mr corruption and nepotism) might finish the money before it gets to the actual capital projetcs

I stand to be corrected on all points raised above

Yup, responses to your list

Dem birds deep down know its true and they all exhibit a certain trait or other on that list,
Kinda wake up call for them,

will not be surprised to see a "Womens Lib" patron sending me a hastily worded bloke version of the anoyance list

Sagamite:

The guy was bloody lying, otherwise they need to close down OOU. grin

Well, with all the furore and publicity surrounding the programme, a highly placed official off OOU cannot be said to have not see or heard about the programme. If at this stage, they have not denied the guy as being a student then the school should be closed and all students (past and present) should be made to sit an "English Speaking" exam, really scared if they decide to also have a written exam too.

Meanwhile, saw this on timesonline today and decided to share

CHEAPSKATE LOVER

In accepting dinner invitations to ladies’ houses, I take three things with me — a bottle of wine, a bouquet of flowers and a packet of condoms. However, stopping by my local supermarket to acquire them involves a long walk to different aisles seemingly hundreds of yards apart. Why can’t supermarkets place things that go together next to one another?

IT, Milton Keynes

Because no man who buys a lady flowers from a supermarket deserves to have sex.

Some guys do not do us favours
