@Jcob,

Nice ideas, hopefully, they really come to replace the "jokes" we cyrrently have has Web Ads here in naija, its an area i have spoken about previously and currently waiting for more information from the programme developers,

And you can do your masters part time while working also, its being done by a lot of people

@netose

Basically, my main job description is wading through the scope of works (tender or contract), then developing a schedule of works that takes into account resources, time, critical milestones, Client activities, cost etc etc

When the programme is now agreed i.e (project board buy in, client acceptance, sub-contractor agreement), we now use it as a tool to monitor actual work done versus planned work then you start looking at things like earned value and indexes, so there is the regurlar battle between me and the project manager on progress (before i became acting PM & took the fight to someone else)

Well, as you are going to work in the Power sector then, you might wanna cast an eye on Harzadous areas review.

The intensity of the HAZ9 procedure depends on if its a green field or brown field site.

@Topic,

Last week has been mad, had to work also saturday and sunday, not half days ooo, i even did overnight on sunday till monday morning, reason?

Government is our ultimate client and those guys can just wake up one minute and decide they want something on a certain date and we have to haul ass to ensure its done, my apartment was more or less sleeping quarters

Senior management want to make us permanent staff (project team are all contract staff), I have told them with me doing 3 peoples work, i will jeje resign and carry my self somewhere else

Anybody wondering, pay is much much lower as a permanent staff and I definately cannot continue "juggling" these positions and take an approx 40% pay cut, we wait and see sha, if we cannot agree on something then i bounce nicely

On work itself, after 6 months of desgn, i just found out that my design engineers have made a school boy error, they have proposed to build a tower on a "high pressure gas feeder line", made friday go ballistic and monday will be mental (@nestose, it was during a HAZ9 meeting we found this out), we looked like clowns in frnt of the client,

Well, finished work for today and hope to see how the week goes, might have to scream @ someone on monday

@guys in the technical or engineering field, do you have an idea the going daily rate for a project planner is in naija, spoke to some agency and i will want to have an idea of market rates before we make applications, would i also be paid in naira or can i hold out for euros??
Career / Re: Welcome To My Office by Tmoni(m): 8:56pm On Jul 31, 2010
@damiso,
welcome back and regards to the lil one and hubby
on the job front, might suggest u chill a bit at your present company and search the market later on when you are a bit stabilised (u sure do not want to combine all the baby activities with learning new procedures and policies)

@bluediva
congrats on your promotion, make we come Mama Calabar for champers??
shame to see that these practices still exist in work places, best you can do is just pay no attention to it

@tkb417
nice cradle to grave advise you have posted there
am trying to get my people to do the same thing but "business as usual" has been in the way and the whole office is in malaga

@netose
looks like its you running the whole show there, make you try ooo
just remember, when construction reach, my services are for hire,

@Oga Ajanlekoko
Might be time to finally conquer the "what if" scenario and start considering going  full time with your PP and hopefully, it keeps you happy and richer

Politics / Re: Donald Duke: How Elections Are Rigged by Tmoni(m): 7:34pm On Jul 18, 2010
I used to respect and admire Donald Duke alot but that is on a downward tangential now

This was the same process that got him 8yrs in government, so now he is in the opposition he bares it all

OK, lets assume he was allowed to run for presidency (in 2007), he will have wiilingly allowed the same "opaque" process put him in power??

I wish him well but he is not at the same pedestal as before

Business / Re: Air Nigeria Unveils First Re-branded Aircraft by Tmoni(m): 12:40pm On Jul 14, 2010
Congratulations on the unveiling but I dnt really think he should have used all that money to pay off the debts in one go

In a capital intensive business, you will definately need debt (tax and financing reasons), i think he should have done a debt arrangement deal with them (GTB and UBA)

I will definately pop the bubbly when i check opodo and have one of my options for a lagos - london flight as Air Nigeria. this should help the competition and hopefuuly, better prices and customer service for us,

Wish them well,
Politics / Re: 2011 Presidency: Momodou Or Okotie? by Tmoni(m): 2:45pm On Jul 08, 2010
I hope and pray and wish that Dele Momoudu will not become the president of naija
He does not appeal to the youth at any level

I know the country has done many wrong things but if Nigeria can vote a man who made his money by "Idolising Pen-Robbers" is made president of the country then we might as well all just move enmass to Ghana and allow naija to rot more

have you guys read the "amala jounalism" that the guy uploads weekly on thisday, utter tosh in all angles
He always keeps going on how he sat in first class and saw XYZ and how he stayed in this or that hotel
And then goes on to vilify nigeria yet he still uses those his 35mm to take picrures of them

I despise Bob Dee,,,,,very much

@ debosky, long time
did you re-deploy to the Macondo location,,,,,,,,Robert Peston was at yours a while ago,

Pertaining to HAZ9 Procedures,

Sometimes the client will have to inform the contractor at the Tender or PQQ stage that they will go through HAZ9 so they can make an allowance in their tender prices and programme. I think its the client who sets the pace here and some times he provides the consultants execute the activity.

Omo, make I pally netose and see if those guys win the contract ooo, my services are for sale "Project Controls Specialist", EVM and ish

Politics / Re: Private Sector Takes Full Control Of Electricity June 2011 by Tmoni(m): 5:41pm On Jul 06, 2010
@Hercules07

Lemme give you 2 senarios here

1. Things maintain status quo i.e NEPA plays with electricity as often as there are, you have to queue for (Fuel or Diesel) regularly, you also have to "sort" at the pump station and most often do not buy at the advertised rate, you store a highly inflamable liquids at home, your neighbour has the noisest generator on your street, you cannot effectively make plans without a second recourse to a generator

2. Most likely you pay a high tariff for constant electricity, no queues, theres a card which you top up for your power supply, when u travel to village for easter, almost be rest assured of low risk of electrical fire

I knw what me and 149,999,999 Nigerians will prefer (its up to u to make that number 150m)
Politics / Re: Private Sector Takes Full Control Of Electricity June 2011 by Tmoni(m): 2:07pm On Jul 05, 2010
@ netose, during the initial stages that might not be possible but going on long term it should be possible

i recently switched from EDF to npower and it all still runs on the same network, infact the only difference is the Letter Head on the bill and the price

We will expect each region to be awarded at least 2 companies for competition, better customer service and to stiffle monopoly

having just one Distribution company will not be the best but its a start, Government should only regulate the industry and stay the hell outta it

i wiil try and investigate how this is viable (switching suppliers) and report back
Politics / Re: Private Sector Takes Full Control Of Electricity June 2011 by Tmoni(m): 1:43pm On Jul 05, 2010
I totally support this move if I have to pay more money or even the same amount for running a generator to get 24/7 electricity then so be it

@ least, the fuel and diesel will be enough for cars and people do not have to risk storing highly flammable liquids at home

If this process is executed properly, it will be the best thing Democracy has done to the nation, by far outweighing GSM

Then hopefully, people now have the chance to switch suppliers i.e if i do no like the customer service of Zenon (I presume he will buy), I can easily sign up with Oando (will expect them there)

Theres job opportunities and loads of genuine wealth creation for all of us

Heck, they can even build the nuclear power plant I was talking about earlier,
Career / Re: Welcome To My Office by Tmoni(m): 1:07pm On Jul 01, 2010
@Oyb and Netose

I honestly refuse to believe that HAZ9 (all of them) is not undertaken during design and construction stages especially in the Power sector

God knows how many hazards people are in daily contact with on those sites which could have been eliminated at design stage, lemme wait for netose to answer, heck, its ABB who are the subcontractors doing our Haz9 procedures and they also work in naija,

Best Practices implememted worldwide anybody??

@Hbabe, wish you all the best but what makes you feel you will not like the new department
Sometimes we never know until we do it and your boss 'might' gear up wiv this new responsibilities

I dont know who started the Kaita thingy but I am deeply proud of Nigerians here that our "light humour" attempt to swallow our abysmal world cup campaign was recognised and should make others cheer up too, especially the English!!
Career / Re: Welcome To My Office by Tmoni(m): 11:14pm On Jun 30, 2010
@netose

HAZOP/ HAZID & HAZCON are Hazard Operations(working in harzardous areas), HAzard Identification and Hazard Construction (construction in harzadous areas)

I will be very surprised if you guys d ont do it in the "naija" electrical sector because there is a very big tendency for the electricity to "arch" and kill people so you have to know your safe working distances

Good luck with your tenders ooo

Hello People,
been a long time since i posted here, hope you all enjoying the football season

work has been very very hectic

the Project Manager has gone off "long term sick" and since I slowly nodded to stand in as "Acting PM", my life has not been the same
All of a sudden, all the free time I had at the office have astonishly disappeared, even weekend work is a norm now shocked

I now have to attend some HAZOP, HAZID meetings and claw my way throu the grounds and I got some milestone dates with hefty LAD

And errrrmm, the main question, no salary increase
