Procedure to open GIC in Canada

First you go to there website https://pay.cibc.com/ISBO/payment/#/ and create a profile.
1. You are applying for student GIC program

2. Minimum amount is $10000, you can do upto $20000 but bear in mind that this money will only be available on tranches for a period of 8 months or so.

3. Select resident country

4. Do not check the I'd like to pay in canadian dollars box

5.. you will see an amount in USD click on it and continue, that amount will be held for 20 minutes while u fill the form

6. After filling the form you will be contacted by the bank in 1-2 business days with an account number to pay into

7.. proceed to the bank and make the payment from a USD account

NOTE: payment can be only made once before you arrive to Canada. And PAYMENT MUST BE MADE FROM THE SAME NAME ACCOUNT OTHERWISE THEY WILL RETURN YOUR MONEY

georgeman:
Congratulations.

Please can you guide on how to go about getting GIC. I have reached out to various Canadian banks but they keep saying I need to be in Canada to get one.

Email iomlagosmedicalbooking@iom.int to book an appointment. Once you have been given a date, they will send you their account details to pay. Do ensure you print out the receipt and take with you on your appointment date.

Finally PPR.
The journey started in October 2022 when I did medicals for UK but the TB x-ray came out with scars in my chest and I was told to do sputum test. Result came out 28th of Dec 2022, 2 came out positive and 1 negative. I had to start treatment for 6 month and didn’t pursue the UK anymore. However, decided to apply for Canada study permit during the end of my treatment in May. I applied for Canada study permit May 31st and got denied June 22nd due to proof of fund even with 26m. Their reason was, I had the money quite alright but my salary cant provide me such huge amount, so I had to reapply and explain I got cash gift a year ago from my dad and showed when it entered my account a year ago. I also went further to get GIC certificate and paid 85% of my school fees since the school didn’t allow me to pay 100%. This was to proof that the money is mine and not for show off as they previously thought. By the way I had to do another sputum for Canada medical and also see a lung specialist to be sure I am perfectly okay. It was an interesting experience of almost a year. I thank God it ended in praise. Thank you @ketima for your advice, thank you @bigsammy for guiding me on GIC and how to draft LOE. Also, thank you @bobomaigida for reviewing my sop. God bless you guys. I hope this helps someone out there.
Submitted August 8 (second application)
Upfront medical July 3 which was completed and submitted 25th of September (changed to reviewing 25th of September
Eligibility review changed 26th of September
PPR 27th of September

Yes, there is hope for you. When is your course starting? If it is January then apply for your note today. By September ending, it should be out. Also, you can state all what you submitted and people could have an idea with what went wrong. You can also defer your admission.

I applied for my biometrics on the 6th of August and did it on the 15th of August.
Is there any hope for me If i re-apply after getting the GCMS notes and making the corrections.?

How does one open a GIC account from here? The list of countries to select does not include Ghana or Nigeria - from CIBC website. Same for Scotia Bank.

Procedure to open GIC. You can apply for it from Nigeria. I applied for mine from Nigeria

First you go to there website https://pay.cibc.com/ISBO/payment/#/ and create a profile.
1. You are applying for student GIC program

You can not be sure, it could be the course he choose or something else. His GCMS note will state the main reason. The free one takes 30days.

Hello Ikenna, sorry about your study permit refusal, the visa office was not convinced on the reason for your father sponsoring you hence your study permit was refused, there are conditions for sponsorship even if it your parent that is sponsoring you. Estimated time for GCMS note is 1 month

Well canada immigration is so very unpredictable every one has unique case your application is peculiar to you that's my believe what is good for the goose might be hazard for the gander.....I understand u need them to come back and tell their story so it can help other plan well yet I still stand on we all have unique cases and needs to be treated differently the only similarity is we are all applying for a study permit, some certificate program some bsc some msc some PhD let just gather the information we believe fit our situation and leave the rest for God to handle my believe is if u are destined to study in cananda it will surely happen irrespective of the errors u have made in you documentation and application

It's sad how people come here to get information and get PPR. But they won't come back to state timeline. However, they come back to ask of how they can send their passport. I feel that's not nice.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by tnex: 3:43pm On Jul 09, 2023
When did you get your note? I feel a good SOP will do justice to it and also a Letter of explanation addressing the issue the VO raised. Explain why she is going for the course. Also does she have masters? If yes, then state why this course is very important even after her masters.
topsyalooma:
Good Day great people, please I need your advice on the following;
My wife was recently refused (June 2023 precisely) on the basis of "Inconsistent" we requested for GCMS note and the reason was based on, not enough motivation to pursue the intended course (simply SOP issue).

However, during the application I was her sponsor and she also as some funds in her account which still maintained till now but I as the sponsor have used up all the funds in my account for personal and business purposes. Now that we intend to reapply, we intend to top up the amount/funds in my wife's account as the applicant, for her to be "Self sponsored" and I won't have to present my own bank statement. I intend to do this by gifting her 1 plot of land which she'll sell to make up the funds.

My question for the gurus will be that, will there be any issue with the above approach or what will you suggest should be the best approach for us to get it right this time without raising any further concerns with the VO.

We also wish to seek the service of a professional SOP writer as that's the only basis for the refusal and borders on studies relation alone even though all these were clearly stated in our previous sop. If you're a good sop writer kindly reach out on slimmy4gem @ gmaildotcom.

Thank you for your time and great advice always. God bless us all and this great platform. We shall all succeed.

I have attached the GCSM note for your review and advice.

Best regards

Good morning to the Gurus in the house, please help with your input. I just received my GCMS note.
I have considered the following factors in my decision.
Majority of funds available on file is an investment account. I have concerns that the funds would be sufficient and available for the proposed studies.
Weighing the factors in this application, I am not satisfied that the applicant will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for their stay. For this reason above I have refused this application.

Most of the funds where in an investment account. I have liquidated and put the funds in my accounts should I go ahead and reapply or leave the funds in my account for sometime before I reapply.

How long did your GCMS note take.

Good morning all,
Please I need help, I have paid full one year tuition, open a GIC account with (20 000 cad ) funded. Do I still need to add someone as a sponsor? Is this ok?
My brother doesn’t want to release his bank statement but he gave me money for GIC. However he is willing to release landed property documents.

I am also thinking if it’s necessary to explain the source of the money in the GIC account

Please help your opinions and experiences. People who knows about GIC with visa should please help me
Thanks

Did you still add the sponsor's name after submitting the GIC and paying for 1year school fees? And where you granted study permit

Hello, yes I did another chest X-ray at Qlife family clinic and the result came out negative ..
Qlife result comes out within 48hrs .

That's great congratulations. Did you bother telling Qlife that you have had it in the past and have been treated? Or you just keep mute and allowed them check so as not cloud their judgement?

Yes..already did the sputum test ..well I went for treatment in the past and it was fully gone.. According to IOM, the doctor said there’s always a scar after the treatment of TB which means it will always show on every chest X-ray that the person once had TB and sputum is usually required for someone that has treated Tb in the past also ..I think it’s just to get a perfect result
Wish I knew earlier, would have gone for the Tb test since ..never knew
Thank you for your swift response, will check the other clinic

Hi, so did you retake the test in an approved clinic and how long did it take

Hi Gurus in the house,
I was denied American business/tourist visa in Jan 2015, do I need to disclose that? Also, I can not remember on what grounds I was denied, therefore if I decide to disclose it what can I say was the reason. I hope this won't affect me chances of getting study permit.

Is NSE process still fast as they claim?

The visiting or open work both depends on the PA's study visa for a continued stay. As long as the PA is still having valid study visa, then maybe PGWP after study any dependants ( be it open work or study or visit) don't have issues before ultimately applying for PR.

I guess I fairly answer the question based on little I know. Others can equally add.

All the best
Thank you

Documents Submitted:

All Ircc required forms
Passport and Visa copy for me.
SOP Stating why she needs to be with me in Canada for moral support towards my studies. I stated the purpose which is to go along with me,highlighted financial part ,home ties using our parents and properties.
I actually applied for them 2 weeks after I got my study visa while still in Nigeria,so I wrote the letter in anticipation of approval so we could go together cos I have seen it happening here before,so we had to make it so persuasive kind of.
My admission letter, scholarship offer from my university in Canada.
My employment letters,certificates etc
The SOA used for mine which covers their living expenses for a year like 4k for wifey and 3k each for kids since the scholarship already covers my own expenses. These comprises of fixed deposit funds and current account balances in my account.

We did not submit police report even during my own study visa as well. We did not also submit any family pics of us together cos I heard vfs dont take pics sometimes ago but don't know how true that is. I would have love to add some to prove relationship had it been we use Online application but we did paper.
I could not also secure admission for my son for school in Canada (Above 5 years) while in Nigeria cos they are asking for lease/rental agreement and I am yet to even travel then. For the child that is less than 5 years,we applied for visiting visa while wife is SOWP

Spouse documents:
Employment letter, work ID and training certifications and School certificates
Statement of account, just to show she is earning salary not necessarily with any significant closing balance
Marriage cert, birth cert for her and children
Change of name affidavit and newspaper publication

I think its just the basic documents. Then we trust God for grace and the application was progressing well from eligibility review, medical request(They did not do upfront medical),medical passed, bvl and approval exactly 2 days plus the 14 weeks processing time when we applied in July 26th 2019.

Thanking God for the journey so far and trusting Him for more approvals for these wonderful winning team.

All the best!

Please can you explain the part where you said you applied for visiting visa for you child that is not up to 5years

Hello all,
I am a Nigerian. I'll be moving with my family to Prince Edward Island in March. I decided to start this thread so I can connect with fellow Nigerians living or studying in PEI. It's always good to have peeps to give you low down about a new place-it helps to prepare for the journey and to settle down easily-and certainly to confront the challenge of a culture shock.
hi femidudu, I believe you have moved already, please how did you get a good accommodation for your family and how did you settle in as a new comer.
