I am amazed at the amount of information on this thread. Thank you so much for being so open and supportive. My due date is in March and I intend to travel to the US as well. I have a long list of questions and I would appreciate if you guys can take out time to answer:

I have been to the US on vacation severally. The last time I renewed my 2 years visa, I and hubby were asked if we were going on medical grounds, to which we said no becos I didn't even know I was pregnant. We went on vacation to the US in July and I am worried this mite be an issue when I go to have my baby. Do I need to contact the embassy since the purpose of my going to the US has changed? someone suggested I send an email to the embassy?

From the info on this tread, Texas seems to be an affordable option. However, I have families in Washington DC, can someone recommend affordable and quality hospitals in DC area? maybe Maryland, Virginia, New jersey? I will appreciate doctors contacts and estimates please.

Some people have suggested not taking a direct flite where you have plenty naija. I usually use emirates and stop over in Dubai, is that okay? or should I opt for other countries? I know some airlines are quite strict with pregnant women, what airlines do you suggest I avoid?

Is it advisable to travel alone or with my husband. My husband does not see the need to travel with me and then come back again when I am due. I feel it mite make some difference since he is the one that is usually asked all the questions. what are your tots?

tobiojo2002: One needs to be careful with these hosp, they overcharge at times and they also do not give you full details so they can gve one ridiculous bills
One of the Financial counselors suggested something to me so I could reduce the bill.she says I can apply for medicaid for the baby and myself , medic aid pays the hospital and. I can refund medicaid the actual amount paid by them, cos she hinted me that medicaid has a standard amount they pay for mother and baby which is lower than the rate the hospital will quote for self paying patients.
Has anyone heard of this or know anyone who has done ths before?

What's your POE as I didn't have any issues, them even giving me preferential treatment of helping with my luggage etc, despite d fact I tried hard to conceal my pregnancy under my dress top I still they show, first the way u walk gives you away, your swollen face and feet after d long ass flight too gives you away. There Is notin to hide except if you aren't due soon. Cost I flew in at 35 weeks and my belly is a small one but still pple noticed. Just be real and say the truth. I was stamped 7months sept- march. Some guy walked up to me was asking questions if I was carrying gala, garri, food substances I said nope that I ain't craving for any of those and he let me go without searching.

You have to book KLM to fly Delta Airline from Amsterdam to the US. Flight cost is very ridiculously high depending also on the airline you book through. It actually cost me about 2,000 USD to book my flight to the US after my wife gave birth to our son mainly because I booked the flight like 4 days before I was to fly and I used KLM. Also the flight I booked was the cheapest of all my options and I had to fly first from my base in Europe to Amsterdam, then to Manchester before connecting through Delta to Atlanta. But other airlines like Turkish airline might be cheaper.

MMA does not send you...however some airline are notorious for turning people back like British airways if you are going through London.. i hear Delta is the easiest to travel with. Try and take a long a medical report that shows it is safe for you to fly. That might be tough if you want to wait till week 37 but find out what the airline you are using spe cifies as safe to fly when pregnant.

ringofGod: ok.. quite a bit of questions..i hope i answer them all... This is my first time in the US...i have actually been denied a visa before... so it doesnt matter whether ure a frequent traveller or not.. it would help if you are obviously but it ddnt stop them from giving me..as for how much to be in your account.. i would estimate about 1.5 - 2m... its just an estimate to show them that you are well able to cover for travel expenses, delivery costs etc.

As for the lady who talked about medicaid... although your baby is a citizen and they will not turn you back for accepting medicaid for the child, it will be on your records that you accepted medicaid and when next you go for a visa, they will likely deny you. this is something that most people do not know.. do not accept medicaid even though your baby is eligible for it... unless you yourself are an american citizen

sweetg: I will advice u say d truth. I said the truth and I and my family were given. If u lie dey will send u back at the point of entry. They sent my friend back dec 2012 cos shedding disclose she was Previn Lagos.itell you they will Give you if u say the truth and dey might not on the other hand.they knw we lie a lot and they have a way of getting us. Pls say the truth for ur own good. It's legal to have ur child I the us. Even the visa office told me that and gave me some tips. Don't make things worse.
