The Nigerian man won the 2020 department of civil, construction and environmental engineering outstanding MS thesis award

- Ifeanyi finished his MS degree with excellent contributions of 105-page thesis and four conference papers, among others

A Nigerian man, Ifeanyi Okpala, studying in the US has made the nation really proud by winning a special award for his MS thesis at the University of Alabama Graduate School.

It should be noted that about five months ago or so, Ifeanyi earned his masters degree in flying colours as he completed a 105-page thesis, two journal articles, four conference papers, and had a CGPA of 4.0/4.0.

On the school's Twitter page on Wednesday, May 6, he was announced as the winner of the 2020 department of civil, construction and environmental engineering outstanding MS thesis award.

The Nigerian is currently a PhD student at the University of Alabama. This is no mere feat, it is indeed commendable.

Congrats to our Nigerian best brains abroad representing us well.

Thank you from exonerating me from the claim that "We" stopped Igbos from seceding, when it was just the government of Gowon, using government troops.
Stop been daft mate, you are comparing apples and oranges in your submission. Isaac Boro unilaterally declared his Izon tribe a republic without following any due process like consulting the other minority tribes in the old Eastern region and engaging the government of the Eastern region in dialogues and concerns about the plight of his people. His volunteer force suddenly attacked police units all over his region, and looted Federal treasuries, arms and ammunitions for his movement. What would you have had Ironsi do as the Supreme commander when the security of a region under his regime was been threatened? Did Igbos suddenly embark on genocide or unleash pogroms on the Ijaw people? Igbos didn't invade Ijawland and massacre all the people there because Isaac Boro wanted out.

Ojukwu's people from the East (not just Igbos) were killed all over Nigeria, and Ojukwu got the MANDATE through a consultative assembly consisting of ALL PEOPLE FROM THE EASTERN region to safeguard the lives and properties of the people by seceding from a union that couldn't guarantee the safety of the Easterners anymore. Ojukwu didn't declare war on Nigeria, Gowon did.

If you can't decipher the chasms between those two scenarios, then you are more stupid than I gave you credit for.

Until the day Yorubas become a vast refugee tribe in Igboland, I will continue to humble your type with the truth.

If you had allowed NigerDelta republic go in 1966, you wouldn't have lost 3million to hunger by 1970, while trying to break a Nigeria that Azikiwe ensured would only be broken by war.

Poetic Justice!

How much is gala now on the streets of Yorubaland?

Reply me and I will give you more water to drink.
Ogbeni shut up abeg! Your people are all over the place, in large numbers for that matter in the SE and especially the SS where I come from. The problem with you people is that your ignorance and lack of exposure (that's what happens when you don't actually travel out of your enclave, or slums rather) is so stagnating that's it sad to see how myopic you lots sound, so much for been "sophisticated". Go to Enugu, Aba, Port Harcourt, Asaba, Owerri, Warri and see thousands or more of your people flooding those areas.

You talk of Igbos been refugees in your overrated region, even going as far as to make dumb comparisons with Mexicans flooding the US borders blah blah blah, are you the one empowering those same Igbos who are buying up your father's lands and dominating your markets all over Lagos? which tribe is responsible for over 70% of all import and export duties in the Lagos ports? The same essential commodities your people almost survive on are owned or imported by Igbos! The same people who sell gala still end up buying up your shops and forcing your young men into omonile business, look at these dumb idiot talking about refugees grin. This lock down has already exposed who the real refugees are, na your people dey kill themselves over agege bread and constituting social nuisances with crime and the likes just to survive, for ordinary lock down ooo! Igbos survived 3 years of a bloody civil war with nothing to eat! yet your people can't last for just few months.

And the Igbos didn't stop the Ijaws from seceding you uneducated dunce. The government of Ironsi did using government troops. And last time I checked there was no approval or consensus by the Igbos to stop anybody from seceding (point me to any part of history where and when that happened).

A useless tribe filled with uncouth , poorly educated , evil , dirty , cannibalistic , ape like and diabolic criminals . Yeebos are plagues. It is shameful that only 3 million of such people were wasted during the civil war .
It would have been better for Nigeria if the useless tribe was exterminated .

It is better to be a plant than to be Igbo .
It's a popular saying that the only good Igbo is the dead Igbo.

No good can come out of that group .
Useless scions of the devil
Yes ooo my yorugbanti broda from another mother - ko di dafun gbogbo awon Igbo.
We should have exterminated all of them in that war, especially in consideration for what they did to us in Ore, Okitipupa and parts of Ondo where they raped lots of our beautiful sisters and mothers, and killed quite a lot of people.
Those bastard Yeebos wasted lots of our boys in that botched River Niger crossing, our Aboki masters under Murtala gave the command from the rear, and sent us to our deaths in thousands.
Baba wa Awolowo (may his soul RIP, sad he took sniper and ended his life the way he did) should have done more in starving those Yeebos to death... he was too merciful Olorun Oba.
After the war, we "accommodated" the ungrateful Yeebos back into our fold, gave them their abandoned properties back and a new lease of life... afterall we are known to be suffersticated oops... I meant sophisticated accommodators right? but how did those Yeebos return the favor back? they turned round to spite us. They bought up large swaths of our properties and market economies... today awon eleribu Yeebos have now colonized large real estates all over Lagos.
My father even sold his bungalow that he built with his shares investment and savings to one werey omo Igbo, now all the tenants in that house are paying rent to that flat headed "Shukwudi" on our own land ooo for that matter! rara ooo, we must kill them all angry
They sleep with our young girls who patronize their businesses all over Alaba, Ladipo, Computer village, FESTAC etc I lost my big nyansh girl friend Ronke to one Igbo boy like that, can you imagine?
We are now fighting each other over ordinary "buredi agege" and sachets of garri... Just like our elders sold Abiola to the Gambari. Yoruba ronu oooo! we need to unite and kill all these Yeebos, we see them in our sleeps. They hunt us anywhere we go. We can't even eat our Ikokore in peace, one Igbo flat head must appear in our soup sef, ha oti o! enough is enough
I agree that a good Igbo is a dead one, but currently even their dead have more value than our living. So what does that make us? imagine people who lost millions of lives and properties and were reduced to ground zero after the war, now dominating us in almost all charts of achievements? Imagine if we went through 1/10th of what they experienced, would we have rebounded as well as they did?
Egbon we need to soul-search ooo!
Fulani are "KWARAnizing" us all over Yorubaland, while Yeebos are selling our father's houses and using it to grow Akpu farms. Enough is enough!

You know what I always do? Anytime I see a name that is confusing, I will type the same name on Facebook with the USA state to search the actual person. That’s how I always get my stats.

I have all the names and page number of those people I listed with me. I tried posting on here but I keep getting banned which explained why I stop posting it. I even tried posting only their first name, I still got banned be the anti-spam bot. I even went further to post just the page number and ethnicity alone, yet the post still got removed.

That’s why I only paste the stat. If there will be any error, it will just be +-2.

If you think the margin of error is more than this, please contest it.
Are you sure of your counts LegendHero? You listed a total of 15 Nigerians

10 Yorubas
3 Igbos
2 SS
According to you, even though you weren't too sure if you actually listed the Igbos there by properly checking their last names, there's a 70% chance you saw a name that you weren't too sure or perhaps too sure it wasn't Igbo sounding, and then skipped the page. You can't tell me +- Lmfaooooo, there are no fine margins for errors when checklisting this things (that's why I wish more Igbos were involved on these thread to go through the school websites you can provided). But I digress, let's assume you had a total of 15 Nigerians counted for the Spring 18 class, doesn't it seem unlikely that you will get that very tiny number of Nigerians graduating from a 15 weeks semester? There were about 316 pages alone for the spring 18 semester, did you actually go through pages 1-316? cause there were far more Nigerians than the total figures you posted, which makes me question your credibility once again.

while I agree with u to an extent regarding sample sizes. Unless u are willing to go through all the 5000 plus schools which will require a lot of work and time. The argument might as well end right now. Lot of things must be taken into account not only school but population samples and all other stuff. What’s the population of igbo and Yoruba in America cuz according to ur own made up statistics u said ibo are more than yoruba. I have travelled all over the states to Georgia, Indiana, Alabama, Maryland, Texas and so much more and if u ask me I will say yoruba are much more in the states but is there anyway to really prove it. No. Meanwhile when u started this argument with legendhero. The argument was that he will bring out stats for Georgia while u do the same for California. At one point u even claimed there is more ibo graduating student in the summer semester for Georgia so far on ur list.
So you conducted a private census count to determine there were more Yorubas than Igbos in those states?
Politics / Re: What Does The S/west Produce That Compares With The North? by Tobrasky: 5:19pm On Apr 18, 2020
LegendHero:

God bless you.

This is the main argument on this thread. We north said we will do that of Georgia and California for the sake of this thread.

I presented mine for Georgia and he is yet to provide for California. The Yoruba dominate all the four graduating semesters of those universities we wanted to research.

Georgia State:
Spring 2018:
Yoruba- 10
Igbo - 3
Others - 2

Fall 2018:
Yorubas - 11
Igbos - 3

Spring 2019:
Yorubas - 12
Igbo - 4
Others - 3

Fall 2019:
Yorubas - 26
Igbo - 14
Others -10

Georgia institute of technology:
Spring 2019:
Yoruba - 7
Igbos - 2
Others - 3

I even went further for other states since he said it’s small:

University of North Carolina at Greensboro:
Summer 2018:
Yorubas - 4
Igbos- 2
Others - 2 (Itsekiri and Calabar)

University of Maryland:
Spring 2018:
I’m almost at the last stage of compilation and the Yorubas still dominate.

So what else!

Now here's the problem again, are you sure you counted the number of Nigerians for Georgia state University class of spring 18? Cause I actually had a pen and paper handy and I counted way more than 3 Igbos. Maybe you can't Identify unique Igbo names that you might not be familiar with? you see why the whole dynamic of your numbers are plagued with errors, and the same applies to the other semesters as well! I seriously need more Nigerians who can actually identify names of ethnic groups to join these conversation. For example I saw a "Okaro" last name in that spring 18 graduating list, and didn't know it was an Igbo name till I later looked it up online and saw lots of Igbo profiles had that name, I so made the mistake of skipping similar sounding names like that cause I wasn't sure if they were Igbos or not.

Okay if I get you right, this is what you want:
1. Use the list that Eastlink suggested with the other list we already have to complete the argument on this thread.

2. After completing the micro argument on this thread, you want us to open a separate thread to widen the scope of the research by engaging the public and allowing people to upload the stat of Nigerian students in their universities for the graduating years they can lay their hands on.

3. I think we should give a constraint or less than 3 years. Let’s say just 2017 - 2019 for each school they can see. Provided the info is available online with sources.

However there is an observation:
This is how it started in the first place. I don’t know why you deviated this all of a sudden.

- we both agreed to use universities in California and Georgia to back our statements. I provided those of Georgia for 4 different graduation semester and you are yet to provide any of California.

After presenting this and you saw the Yoruba dominate all the schools you said we should widen the scope. I agree to widen it tho but just trying to let you know what we initially planned.
You've just succinctly detailed what I've been trying to say along, the fundamental thing is besides the sample size theory (which is understandable from a prism of simple statistics), especially in the context of how broad the information is to arrive at any conclusion, considering how many US colleges exist alone...we should look to open a separate thread for this debate and end it there once and for all! If you even have any friend from your college or any school based in the USA, ask him/her to join the discussion as well (I'll do the same). If we get the opinions from other US BASED Nigerians/Africans etc who can also join the conversation, then it's fair to say on the basis on popular opinions, facts culled from all the top schools domiciled in various regions of the US...then we will know who is hyping his own version of facts or not.

And I already stated that I'll post the websites for California, Texas, and Michigan when I done with my chores, I have the whole day dedicated just for this already.

God bless you.

I’ve told Tobrasky that it’s too stressful to start compiling the list of 5000 universities in USA before reaching a logical conclusion. It will take almost 1 year to complete it coz some universities don’t even have those records online.

That’s why statisticians use sample size. Try to limit it to a certain data and infer the true figures from those samples.

There is a problem with using the bolded in your statement:
1. Nigerians are so small in USA universities and you will be lost in those lost by trying to streamline it to one department. Infact it will consume lot of time. So it’s better to look them as a whole (all department) to get the required numbers.

2. Nigerians(especially those that identify as int’l students) most often depends on tuition funding/ Graduate assistantship to fund their education and this is a issue as it will affect the number of students you can find in those school. So it’s better to look at them as a whole. That’s why I’m doing Fall and spring grad of all department.

You get my argument right?
Sample sizes can NEVER be comprehensive enough, other major/minor details (like for instance a major college or program where Igbos could dominate in numbers will be overlooked) because we are focusing on just a select few of schools, that can make significantly be a deal breaker in the sense that it minimizes the credibility of the whole basis for the conversation or debate in the first place. That's why I want us to open a separate thread for this debate, take our time to get other US based Nigerians/Africans from all ethnic backgrounds to come in and also give their inputs through opinions... like say a Ghanaian, Edo, Efik, American or anyone for that matter based in the USA and had schooled here, can give an unbiased appraisal of the conversation...while we do our parts by compiling our stats on the metric Eastlink suggested.

You need to understand the arguments. Both you and LegendHero agreed to post list of undergraduate or graduate admissions of Nigerians in the US university. Legend hero as smart as he is knows that the Yoruba’s constitute a high population in Georgia. Now if you study in California or Texas you would understand that the Igbos are much in California and Texas. As a matter of fact., I expected you to post the admission list for San Diego or UCLA but you didn’t do so.
Start from your university and list Nigerians by their ethnic groups.
I agree with you, but I opened the post with the hopes that we will have a broad range of research for various colleges resident within Georgia (trust me there a quite a ton of them), we barely even scratched the surface of data collection through the frustrating process of finding Nigerian names among a list of hundreds for various degree programs and academic years/semesters. LegendHero then rushed to post that Yorubas "thoroughly" to paraphrase his assertion trashed Igbos in all the states of the USA or something to that effect... Based on a very small data he culled from just two or three schools spanning from just 2018-19...is that how extensive research is conducted? and you're right, I'll get to work soon on the school websites he posted after my chores, and end his noise with California, Texas, Michigan, Arizona and other state colleges where I thankfully have my records handy (thanks to my friends who gave me access to the school records of their alumni's).
