Hi guys, few weeks ago we shared some stories about 2 women, one lost her shop to fire and the other was robbed. The story got a lot of positive feedback, lots of people indicated interest in helping. I went back to check on them and luckily the fire incident woman is back on her feet and has rebuilt. The one that still needs help is the mama. Iya Abeji the mama that was robbed on her way to the market to buy her goods.(fish) she lost everything and had to resort to carrying load for people in Idumota to survive. Read her story here https://m.facebook.com/humansoflagosng/photos/a.809546899116697.1073741828.808862862518434/817334625004591/?type=1&source=46 or https://instagram.com/p/ySWhLdE30N/ . A lot of people indicated interest in helping her but couldn't cos we were yet to set up any fundraiser. We wanted something that would be transparent and credible to maintain the integrity of the page. We reached out to some public figures and we were lucky to get a positive response from the guys at the future Africa. They will handle the donations, help the mama get back to her fish business and makes sure the funds are used for the intended purpose. This is the first time we are raising funds for anyone on this page and we hope it becomes a success. To donate visit www.thefutureafrica.com/donate click on donate, when filling in your name add Iya Abeji at the end then pay with your card. Will also share the Mama's story with the donation link again tomorrow, please do help repost this and again tomorrow. Thanks. www.thehumansoflagos.com

" 5 years ago a project I was working on led me to the creeks of Niger Delta. I saw first hand the suffering of the people especially the women and children who have been neglected, they can't farm on their land or fish on their rivers due to the oil spills which contaminate their environment. And nobody cares about them or how they survive. Since then I started an NGO to help those women, better their lives and send their children to school. So far we've been able to get help from the govt and some organisations abroad. I came to the social media week to campaign for their cause." www.thehumansoflagos.com

" I can't remember most of the things that happened when I was young, it's been a really long time but I remember I had a strong mind, I wasn't afraid to do anything I believed in or take risks and I wasn't easily influenced by my peers. I only did what I believe was right and I always tried to be truthful and honest in all I did." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"When we were in UNN, there was this our guy that always wore the same shirt and trouser everyday. He always depended on us to survive each semester. Some made fun of him and his dad who was the security man in the school. He was the kind of guy nobody mentioned when they talk about those that will be rich in the future. Fast forward now, he is the richest among us and everyone is now looking for a way to get his contacts and ask him to fix them up with something." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"I finished my 3 months driving lesson last week. Since then I haven't been myself, every minute all I'm thinking about is driving, it's so bad that sometimes, I feel like stopping cars on the road and beg the drivers to let me drive for some minutes. I don't know if that's how it happens to everyone who just learns how to drive. I just came to the place I learnt to know if the man in charge will allow me drive their car for some minutes each day and pay a little amount till I get a driving job which was the reason I learnt to drive in the first place." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"I finished school in 2009, I couldn't get a good paying job so I had to manage the one available it didn't pay much and I barely had enough to cover my transport fare. I sacrificed a lot, sometimes eating only once in a day to be able to save a little. After some time, I saved enough and opened this Barbing Salon. It's moving small small and I hope to get bigger in a few years time. I have some friends that come in my shop to hang out. I try to advice them to start something but they would rather spend all day playing sports bet and hoping to become instant millionaires." www.thehumansoflagos.com #HumansOfLagos

"There are some people who tell me, 'see, football is a waste of time, look at so so and so, see where they ended up, you better find something useful to do with your life. At times it gets to me and I start questioning myself, what if those people are right? What if I'm actually wasting my time? Then I remember all the effort and sacrifices I've made, the little glories, the unforgettable moments, the times when people come and shake my hand after a match and tell me I did well and I should keep it up. That's what keeps me going. I also like reading biographies of players who started from the the bottom and made it to the top. It makes me believe I'll get to the top one day." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"I was on my way home one evening, one pastor approached me, told me he has a night vigil around and needs directions to Obalende. After I directed him, he started prophesying to me, telling me things about myself and he was accurate, the one that surprised me most was when he told me about my sick mum in the hospital. After some minutes, another man joined us and he told the man the person responsible for the death of his child. The man shouted and asked the pastor what we should do. He asked the man to bring out everything in his pocket and give me then start walking to the end of the road. When the man left he told me that saving my mum lies in my hand that I should buy a polythene bag and put the things the first man gave me and empty my own pocket inside without leaving out anything and after that start singing praises from there to the end of the road and back. I believed him and handed him everything I had on me. I love my mum and would do anything to make sure she gets better. When I reached the end of the road and turned back the man has disappeared my mum didn't get better and I later learnt the 2 men work together. I still don't know how he managed to know the things he knew about me." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"5 years ago my girlfriend got pregnant for me, her friends tried to make her remove the baby but all the things she tried failed. Like the baby insisted he is staying. She told me later and we decided to keep it. We came from strict Christian homes so imagine how tough it was for us. We were supposed to be the good kids others look up to. It was tough But our parents later accepted us. Immediately she gave birth it brought good things and opened doors for the both us. I was searching for admission before that and after his birth I gained admission and she got her visa later and travelled abroad. He is the best thing that has happened to me... I thank God for his life everyday. I will be done with my NYSC in a few weeks and we plan to get married soon." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"When I was still serving my Oga, my mum's elder sister would visit me once in a while and I'd give her money. She was caring and treated me nicely. She is the only family I have here, my mum died during childbirth and I lost my dad last year. When my boss sent me away, I went to stay with her around Ajah, the 6 months I spent there was hell, she suddenly changed and started treating me badly, she found fault in anything I did and always verbally abuses me every opportunity she gets. 3 days ago, she just woke up and told me to leave her house, she said she was tired of seeing me that I should go. I've been wandering around for the past 3 days. There are some things you never imagine would happen to you, like praying for night not to come cause you don't have where you will sleep." www.thehumansoflagos.com

Is there any way I can get in touch with this woman? Thank you
Yea but can't just give out her number like that. We need to be coordinated. Hopefully going to work out something with Funmi Iyanda.

UjSizzle:
I used to hear of things like this when I was a kid. It's sad to know it stills happens sad

Did you get in touch with anyone for the account?
It still happens o. You'll be surprised almost half of those serving end this way... Just that no one hears about it except those involved. The boy's story is heartbreaking.... Will post the second part in a bit.
Re- the account. Nothing yet, none of those recommended replied on the thread, maybe they are not interested. I met with Mr. Chude Jideonwo during the weekend, and he said he will try and get Funmi Iyanda involved with the mama's issue and any other one going forward. I hope it works out well.

Would it be possible for me to contact this woman one way or the other please?
Yea but can't give it out at the moment. We are working out something for her tho.

I've served him for 4 years and I was a couple of years away from been settled before he chased me away. People said he has a history of sending away his boys when it's almost time for settlement. "My most memorable valentine's day happened when I was in SS1. There was this buzz around valentine, everybody was talking about it and trying to feel among. I didn't have a boyfriend and I wasn't expecting anything from anyone but there was a boy in my class that liked me. That day, he wrote me a love note and read it out loud. I felt shy and a bit embarrassed, he was one of the cutest in the class and deep inside that made me happy. Looking back, that's my best valentine's day ever and I smile each time I remember it." www.thehumansoflagos.com #HumansOfLagos

"Someone said she saw my late Aunt in the airport, boarding a plane to London. She was a frequent flyer before she died. I don't know what to believe, I'm not that religious, I just pray to God on my own. I don't believe in Ghosts but I think people reincarnate.
There is something been a mortician does to you, it makes you appreciate life and realize your time on this earth is limited. I feel sorry when I see people doing all sorts of things to get rich, maybe they still don't understand this life. I handle dead bodies daily, the rich, the poor, old and young, once you die, that's it. When I started I used to cry when I see a dead body but now it hardly moves me, I just tell myself one day it will be my turn too, what will be told of me? Will I leave a good legacy. My advice to everyone is to live a simple life and most importantly, do good everyday." www.thehumansoflagos.com

I started a few years ago, we import the brooms from our village in Ebonyi, we have people that help us process it and send it to Lagos. It's a good business but people won't believe it. I have my own shop, I only come out to hawk if sales is slow in the shop." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"I used to sale food(rice, swallow etc) till government demolished the place my shop was in. I had to find another thing to do and that's how I started my akara(bean cake) business. I made more money as a food vendor but it's harder than this one, then I had to start cooking food as early as 4am, I have more time for myself in this akara business. I still make enough money from this one to support my family since I lost my husband last year and became the sole provider. My last born is in his final year in University of Lagos and once he graduates and gets a job, I will quit this business and rest." www.thehumansoflagos.com

Lol...I can see you don't like peace! ...guy said somebody based in the US !@Tochi....hmmm......is this really your idea?
The funding idea? That's what most of our Instagram users suggested and since most of them are not based in Nigeria, it would be easier for those who want to donate to easily do so.
We won't able to raise funds for everyone except special cases like the mama and the lady her shop got burnt. A lot of people wanted to help but here was no means, I didn't think about that when I started. I went to check up on 2 of them and to God be the glory, the lady is back on her feet and is slowly rebuilding. It's the mama we want to raise funds for and have the account ready for any future occurrence. I want someone we trust on here cause I don't want to be part of handling the funds. I'll just go out and share the stories and hopefully we would have another volunteer from here based in Nigeria to work hand in hand with the person operating the funding account abroad and would be responsible for taking the money after any funding campaign and make sure it's used for the intended purpose.

Hi Ujsizzle, biko I mentioned you earlier, don't know if you saw it? Please can you recommend anyone? Thank you.

Hi guys, please I need urgent help. We want to raise funds for someone on the project and need to setup a gofundme or indie gogo account to enable our followers contribute. To that effect, I'm looking for a trusted nairalander based in the US that would provide his US bank account and PayPal and handle the funds for us. Lots of people have sent me DMs on Instagram suggesting the need for the funding accounts and volunteering to help but I need someone from nairaland, someone we can trust and hold accountable. Please help recommend someone or volunteer if you can do it for us. Thanks and God bless you.

"I can't see myself doing any other business asides this, I've come to fall in love with books and I no longer see reading as a task. If I had this mindset and love for reading when I was young I would have gone far. I've read lots of books and the knowledge I've acquired since I started this business years ago I wouldn't have in any University. I don't have any regrets even tho I would have loved to go to Uni and study marketing just that there was no money to further after my Secondary school. School is important and I'll make sure my children have the best education they can get just that most youths don't read to learn they just read to pass and get a certificate they can't defend. I read to learn more and understand the world around me. Even as I'm talking to you now I'm learning from you, you never stop learning.
