Rheenah: You know, when you have the Lord by you, no need to shake. I woke by 4 today . Had 7:30 interview.we left by 5:30 and funny enough I didn't even think of the interview. I was admiring the island and the ocean and all. Even when we queued I was absorbed in my surroundings. Didn't think of the interview much. I was on heels and from the whole queue and queue and all I was exhausted and vexed. I think the vexation added more confidence to me. Plus I kept singing the song "your grace is enough for me". (Ladies biko dun wear heel to your interview o) Moving on.... The person that was interviewed before me in window 6 was rejected. Congrats dear, same window I was interviewed in, I saw only one lady on heels, smallish in stature guessing she was u, but u tried o, with all those security checking and long standing. |

OluDare01: VISA APPROVED TODAY IN LAGOS Apology please i talk alot.
The journey that started about 18months ago was consolidated today with the approval of my F1 visa. Got to the embassy by 5:10am and those agents surrounded me but I was just using them to catch fun. Took out time to educate some gullible guys that wanted to fall for their trap. I was so confident, I think my confidence level was 99.9%. Congrats, were you that tall guy on black suits? |

Visa approved 6:30 am yesterday at the Lagos consulate by that tough guy in window 6. Those present there would have noticed I was the first person he approved that morning ( lady on lemon coloured blazers and black skirt) after denying the first 3 people he attended to. He was just dashing out denials like its his wedding invitation, while the female VO beside him was very lenient. I give God all the glory. Transcript loading. |

akins2016: Me: Good morning VO: Good morning VO : Pass me ur documents Me : (Gave her my passport with I-20 in between) VO : (looked through my I-20) ME: (Watching for about a minute or so) VO: So what's your research topic? ME: ( I didn't hear what she asked oo) What? VO: (Asked again) ME: (Stuttered a bit) I'm just going for a Masters Degree in Mathematics. VO: Yeah, but you should have a research you'll be working on. ME: (Wondering...research ke? Na wa ooo) Okay, I'll be working on Development of Mathematical Models that can be used to solve real life problems, ranging from health to production and so on (I didn't plan for that because I don't have a research, but I was very well prepared prayerfully. So I just said what came to my mind sha) VO: (Nodding and typing very fast, also taking momentary CLOSE look at my I-20) Okay Okay. (Picked the white paper and passed it to me with my I-20, then she said the usual stuff) You'll need this (I-20) at the Port of Entry ME: (sincerely I thought she wanted to pick a blue paper because she had the highest denial before I got interviewed. Infact, when the CGI told me I will be next to 'patronise' the woman, I just started hoping for the worst, but expecting the best. Just like that? What did I say wrong? Now now? Was she in a hurry? I started wondering why this woman will not allow me prove myself by at least asking more 'usual' questions. On seeing the white paper, mehhn, I just grabbed it with my I-20 and rushed out before she'll change her mind, because I was asked just a question, which was about research. Omo na case of answer one question, get one free visa oo. All thanks to God. After I initially got a TB, God vindicated me. FAITHFUL GOD. Congrats ....am going for ms mathematics too, I pray I be favoured too. |

Nice piece but I kind of disagree with no. 1 cos the ban on using naira cards abroad might be lifted anytime. Miracles do happen you know. Some people (like me) are seriously praying they reconsider that issue of not being able to use our card abroad. And like Angelapinkytoes said, what's the use of having all the naira and not being able to spend. awe2015: Here are some advice I would suggest for those here and those intending to come over for studies:
1. Do not come here with your Naira MasterCard! Try and change all your naira to dollar before coming. You can store your dollar inside your carry-on baggage and always take it with you even if you are in the rest room.
2. Get a token from your bank. I will suggest Gtbank because they are swift and easy to use. This will help you each time you need to send money home.
3. Find an African Market that deals on Money Exchange. For example, there is a black market here in Rhode Island called Toof's Market (African Market; they sell African food and also deal on money exchange), they sell $1 for N342. Say you wish to send say $100 Home it will total: N34,200. It will definitely be to your own advantage since Western Union and MoneyGram still sell at N197 per dollar...so calculate it and see were your loss and profit emerges. All you would need is to fill out a form and put your Nigerian account number (Gtbank or any bank with token) as the receiver. You will in turn transfer the cash from the comfort of your room to home.
4. Apply for Graduate Assistantship before coming. But if you got denied, do not worry. Once you arrive and have registered for a course or two, check around first in your school's career's website and apply for any available GA positions. Furthermore, follow your application up by visiting the different departments you applied to; whether GA or other positions, after a day or two (this is called being "pro-active" -thanks to bigfrancis1 ). Print a copy of your resume and cover letter, dress descent. Each department your visit present yourself this way: "Hi, my name is ...I'm an international graduate student. I recently applied for this position and would like to follow up on my application...here are the hard copies of my resume and cover letter" Depending on what you conclude with them, just smile. They may either tell you to keep in touch or keep in touch yourself. Call them after every 3 days or one week to get an update on your application (do this nicely).
5. If you are granted any Job On-Campus, use your offer letter to apply for your social security number. This is very important, because, at most times, SSN is used in building and having a record of good credit history. You can also apply for Credit Cards...if you want to begin that, I'll suggest you either begin with Capital One, Bank of America (apply immediately you open an account with them with your SSN), American Express, Chase, Discover, etc. If not, just chill until you are ready. THIS IS NOT A MUST
6. If you've gotten an apartment, please be careful of the letters you receive as some of them are scams (Cruise scam, grocery coupon scams, etc). Any offer you receive that you never applied for, do not claim it, they will definitely request many personal information and money that could be of your own detriment.
7. Be focused, pray always and be positive!
I'll remember more as time goes on...Cheers guys! |

imperiouxx: Althought those with high cgpa on 5.00 scale usually experience large cut. Probably because all units are converted to 2 credit hours. But try reevaluate it. Many schools will specifically tell you they want only wes. Few others will ask only ece. My school accepted FCSA. Sure am gonna reevaluate when applying for PhD. Thanks |

Mekurexx: IERF is the best (quote me anwyhere). $165. $50 first copy, $20 afterwards. And their customer service is great, they ALWAYS REPLY emails on time. I used them and I was glad I did How much will cgpa increase, for instance 4.25/5.0 will be ? |

gunther6: I spent $470 on IERF and their service is still crap, I could not even get a student copy of my evaluation because it was sent through USPS I had to pay an extra $75 to have it posted to Nigeria through TNT bringing by total cost to $545, it is safe to assume I will not be using them again Jeez, what are they evaluating, was it just your bsc result alone? Or with MSC or something else |

Holudarey01: WES would shoot your GP around 3.5 I think. This FCSA no try atall I was looking for a cheap evaluation company. So I chose the $140 over the $205 of WES. |

gunther6: With WES but IERF or ECE it might be less, i used IERF(4.38 came out as 3.48) because they have the express next day option and I'm still scratching my head till now.. Share your evaluation company and how their conversion was so people can learn Okay. I used foreign credential service of America (FCSA) and my 4.25 came out as 3.29. I guess the cheaper the evaluation company, the less tendency for your result to increase the more. I used FCSA cos it was just $140 and they don't require official transcript so I just scanned and sent to them. I regretted it tho and next time I'll use WES for PhD application. |
