How many countries had Russia invaded in its history?
Edit: updated to bring this list up to date for 2022. This is not an answer I want to ever have to update again.

One complicating factor is that 'countries' is, to a certain degree, a modern notion that doesn't apply to well once you go back far enough in history, especially outside of Europe.

Also, since 'invasion' is a charged term, and one person's invasion is another's support (especially in modern wars), any list would have disputable inclusions. In particular, Russia has participated in one side of a foreign civil war numerous times, usually at the invitation (or 'invitation') of one side. For completeness, I'll put things that, in my reading of the history I don't consider 'invasions' in brackets, although it's not hard to find people who would disagree with my interpretation.

Finally, it's likely to be an incomplete list because I'll miss certain incidents, or that particular areas were controlled by such-and-such a country at a given point. Also, Russia invaded the same country repeatedly for long stretches of history (looking at you, Ottoman Empire), and I'm not going to mention every separate war.

For 'Russia," I'm including the Russian Federation, Soviet Union, Soviet Russia, Russian Empire/Tsardom, and Duchy of Moscow. Kievan Rus and the other city states of Dark Age Russia/Ukraine/East Slavic Lands I leave aside, since their connection to the modern nation of Russia is slightly more tenuous.

Also invaded were the Baltic States and Moldova, which the Soviet Union considered its own territory at this point, whether or not the locals did; there was also fighting with anti-Soviet partisans within USSR borders, especially in Ukraine.

Poland 1939 - also invaded under the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

Transcaucasian Republic - a communist state that was temporarily independent of Moscow/Petrograd
[Various independent Ukrainian states/governments, none of which had been around long]

Alaska and California, at the time only held by Native American tribes

(interestingly, there was an attempt to colonize Madagascar. Peter the Great died shortly after the expedition sailed, and the commander decided to return home to Russia rather than continue)

There are different groups fighting on the Russians likewise Ukraine. The Russian military is not recruiting foreigners & prisoners. It is the Wagner group that are doing that. The Wagner already has soldiers in Africa, Middle East & Europe (in Ukraine before the invasion). The Wagner is the one recruiting foreigners. The US started it first. Normally the ratio of the attackers to the defenders is supposed to be 3:1. Which means if Ukraine has 200k soldiers, Russia is supposed to use 600k troops to invade Ukraine. But this war is different. The Ukrainians have more men than Russia. The only reason Russia has been able to carry on with the operation is the superior it enjoys in military equipments (especially Artillery pieces).

The defender has more men than the attacker. The attacker has a lots of fire power. So the attacker has been able to inflict a lots of losses on the defenders. The Ukraine casualties is more than the Russians It is way more the 13k the Ukrainians claimed. There is a reason the Ukrainians are keeping the casualty figure secret I think after the war. The real casualty figure will be released.

You failed to understand that the attacker is more exposed than the defender, I'd you guys keep advancing the narrative that over 500 Ukrainians soldiers killed in action, the question is what's the total number of Ukrainians army?
And if Ukraine lost that much,who have rushed to conscript more civilians into the fighting force?
