iceberge: I think the most important thing in a phd application is establishing a relationship with a potential supervisor. once your quantitative matrix beat the general cut offs, and a prof wants you, then you are fine. so first, write to profs whose research interests you. Guy you are a wise man... This is what i have been preaching since... Or even if your research area tallies with any of the prof's own, and you can explicitly explain this in your SOP... You are good to go... Like i said earlier, a friend of mine applied for an MS Mechanical Engineering at TAMU, College Station and he received a PHD offer (his GRE score was 315 or so) |

Chidinho10: Rewrite the GRE. Your GPA is solid, don't dull it Apply to UT Arlington PhD as a moderate option (though I don't know it's ranking in your field), then apply to more ambitious schools
Goodluck!!! His GRE Scores are okay to get a fully funded Offer too... Its not all about GRE scores, your SOP, your LOR from a strong professor or a very strong LOR-it is basically a perfect mix of all A friend had 316 and she got a fully funded offer at Stanford... |

NefT: What if I tell you I applied for a PhD chem eng but was instead awarded Msc thesis with no funding. I also know IIT also have this policy of admitting into Msc thesis if you ain't competitive enough for the PhD . |

femi312: No he didn't!! Its harder to get a Phd admit than a master's, most schools have capacity to admit fewer doctoral students compared to master's, very few doctoral positions are available which makes it competitive compared to a masters and I will just leave it at that. . |

Emmanuelson: Exactly she was throwing questions after questions and wouldn’t even let me say much before she throws another I was interviewed by her.. Sometimes, the way we respond to questions, propels more questions to be asked, you know? Just re-apply, work on your transcript, get some nice answers and pray for Gods Favour and direction. There is no perfect answer to any question. |

Chidinho10: I just dey laugh here. I maintain my stance oga 200%... I won't comment further cos world people are already hovering looking for the next blackmail they will table against me.
Just know that the AVERAGE application pool for MS EE is far more competitive than that of PhDs... Very few people (especially those with gangster scores) are ready to commit to a 5 year research degree. You have said it all |

Quoran: A good PhD is funded and universities/Professors recruit the very best to do research for them.It is like a job. Positions are offered to the most qualified. Masters degrees as you rightly pointed out has become cash cows for universities.Sometimes, people are admitted to Masters degree programs to make up the numbers. That's doesn't happen for a PhD. It is easier to get admitted for a masters degree than a PhD. If the wrong applicant is given a PhD positon, it affects the Professor's research work., "It is easier to get admitted for a masters degree than a PhD." Bros you lie here,,, I guess you are talking about course work Masters and not thesis or research based Masters... Different schools, different rules. people apply for MSC and are given Phd instead.. It is just easier to get funding with a Phd, cause it comes mostly with offers than an MSC Its not cast in stone... |

arilewo: Please I need your advice house, I am going to GTR Columbus MS, I am supposed to fly in to either ORD Chicago or ATL Atlanta, then take a connecting flight Delta Air to GTR. The cost is huge so I am reasoning entering through JFK New York using Egypt Air (Arrival time 15:15) while Delta Air is meant to leave for GTR @ 16:10. I only have the option of waiting till the next day for the flight to GTR. Will the CPB official not raise an eyebrow? Do I have to book hotel ahead even though I am not planning to use it as I will be putting up with a close pal till the next day (though I didn't fill in my DS-160 to know anybody in the US). Please I need answers to my questions. Thanks . |

and to lagosmummy( Google and download "Manhattan 5 lb Book of GRE" and "Manhattan 5 lb Book of GRE Practice Problems" One of the best books for GRE preparation. For the Verbal Reasoning: Download Magroosh vocabulary words App on your phone and study atleast 50 words daily. You could also use other books too, but make sure you use Manhanttan for the Quantitative Reasoning if you want to have 160 and above. |

ImpactLife: VISA APPROVED ON FRIDAY (JUNE 1ST) at the Lagos consulate.
I came up few days ago about the fact that I will be going for the visa interview with my wife, and asked of the best response to a question. To be sincere, all the response to the question was discouraging, except the response I got from theamericana, and I really appreciate him/her for that. I was scared because of what i heard earlier about ones inabilibility to book appointment till after 6 month if denied. I know of two people who were in the same situation as mine (last year and this year), and they got the visa with their spouse. After reading the responses to my l Congrats Brother |
