RexCheeng: 18th of July, 2018 The US Embassy in Lagos at Walter Carrington.
My appointment was for 6:30am so I got there before 6. In spite of the rain and chilly weather, I managed to hustle my way to the front of the queue. Did the necessary biometrics and then joined the queue, waiting to be interviewed. As an avid follower of this thread, I had heard gists about the belligerent African-American VO, and I was on the lookout for her. She approved 2 people I knew personally and denied several others from the transcript I saw here. I was hoping not to meet her, but then, I wasn’t scared of her. My confidence was high. I even initiated conversations with the CGI officials and another person on the queue.

LagosismyHome:

The list of prohibited stuff is here but what comes to mind is stay away from Meat , hence why sometimes indomine is allowed and sometime it not because of the chicken in the spice . https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/prohibited-and-restricted-items
The standard is 2 bags of 23kg each and a hand luggage . anything outside that is extra charge but the best place to check is the airline
All liquid such as even perfume, toothpaste , deodorant should be in your checked bag and not your handluggage as liquid is not allowed in hand luggage . Keep your money in your handluggage or pocket or something that is with you at all times and keep your document with you to be with you at all time. make sure you remain calm so you dont forget anything such as document on the plane or in the airport . Dont forget Personal Item!!! e.g laptop Bag, Makeup Bag and the likes |

Tip Tip Tip Tip Tip....
Avoid generic answers...you can always personalize generic answers. Personalize your interview if possible...
If you have impressive GRE scores (Above 310), SAT Scores and TOEFL Score (Above 100)...Please try to put it in your answers..
Why this school? Talk about the ongoing research carried out by a prof, how you have reached out to him, and he has been positive about working with you.. Talk about your funding.. Talk about how the research interests of bla bla aligns with your research interest and career interests..
Do all these before bringing up your generic answers of " faculty ratio and all that" |

Hi Guys,
For Guys going in for their interviews, please have a "Strong, Convincing but short answer" to the following questions:
Why are you going to the US? Why you not pursuing it here in Nigeria? How did you hear of this school? Why this course? Will you be specializing? Tell me about it? What will an MSC do for you? How many schools did you apply to? Name them? What is the relationship between all these schools? Why did you choose this school? Did you take any standardized test? What did you score? Who is sponsoring you? What does he/she do? Where would you be staying over at the university? Tell me your about study plan? Plans after graduation? will you be receiving a monthly stipend? Do you have an idea how much that is? when did you finish University? What have you been doing since then?
General Tips: 1. Do not cram your answers but have an idea of all you are going to say. Easier that way to build your sentences when you forget what you planned to say. 2. While waiting on the queue, listen to all the questions asked by the VOs to applicants ahead of you and build strong answers there on the queue (if you did not prepare for such questions) 3. Do not fret, do not let the numerous blue papers issued out make you lose your confidence 4. Do not answer what you are not asked. 5. If you have funding or impressive GRE/GMAT/SAT scores, please try to talk about your scores in one of your answers early in your interview. Please be reasonable. (VO: How are you? You: I have funding/ I scored 326/340) OYO oooo 6. Do not set yourself up. Dont start talking too much on things you do not have knowledge about, it will lead to more questions. 7. PRAY LIKE YOU NEVER PREPARED PREPARE LIKE THERE'S NO GOD.
Goodluck |

enthusiasm: So all those guys bashing my previous transcript. By the time I'm done with this one, I'm sure you will be calm.
So my interview was for 6:45, I got into Lagos the previous day and lodged a trekkable distance to the embassy. So I got there really early. Then.. the whole queue and biometrics things. When I was in the interview line, there were two men and like 5 or so women VOs. I wanted the elderly man in Windows 2 to interview me because I saw him approve a visa. I kept praying but when it was getting to my turn I felt I might be assigned to the notorious Windows 7 so I quickly ran to the restroom. Lol! I came back and joined the windows 2 myself and the uniformed orderly saw me and called me out, I just kept smiling. I was later pointed to the guy in Windows 5 who turned to be the best. Me: Goodmorning as I pass him my i20 and sevis
Me: I chose this because I want a career in development and policy research (spoke slowly and dimmed my eyes while shaking my head to show how passionate I am) I believe the most effective tools of development are Good policies and research. (To this he nods his head very well and types) I'll be specializing in International Development management, because I'll love to work with development organizations and in the
Me: family
Vo: I'll be approving your visa, I also didn't hear anything else, I was listening but I didn't hear. He didn't circle my white paper either.
It seemed like a long interview now but it was not up to 2 minutes and it seemed so easy because of his body language, he was practically nodding at everything I said, it is GRACE. However I comported myself well, smiled a bit and spoke my phonee too, I kind of noticed they like that, but what do I know! A relaxed body language and eye contact helps a lot. I was looking at him even when he wasn't looking at me. I'm super grateful for this platform and I hope my transcript helps someone too. All the best!!! You are real G, we spoke and you listened to our criticsisms. God Bless you. Thanks for this... Congrats Man, More wins to come. |

I prayed and kept praying even on the queue. It is and can only be GOD! Congrats.. But this transcript is not useful to anyone ******. I am even ***** you posted this kind of *********.
