Politics › Gunmen Kill District Head In Borno by Tolexander(op): 3:52am On Jun 01, 2013
By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri
A District Head of Dala
Alamderi who is also a
protocol officer of the Borno
State Government in charge
of Maiduguri International
Airport, Alhaji Liberty Dala
has been killed by gunmen
suspected to be members of
Boko Haram sect.
Liberty, as he is fondly called
was a hardworking protocol
man whose responsibility
before his untimely death,
was to arrange/book flying
tickets to Borno state
Government, its officials and
politicians at the Maiduguri
international airport.
He was also the District Head
of Dala Alamderi, a position
he inherited after the demise
of his father some years ago.
Our Correspondent gathered
that the gunmen on
Thursday evening ambushed
the residence of the District
head in Dala Alamderi ward
of Maiduguri metropolis and
shot him dead before slicing
his body with cutlass and
fled without being arrested
in the presence of his wife
and children.
A resident who did not want
his name mentioned in print
for security reason told our
Correspondent that the
gunmen ambushed the
protocol officer around 9
pm on Thursday, but due to
the 6am to 9pm curfew
imposed in Maiduguri and its
environs, all residents and
neighbours upon hearing
the sound of gunshots could
not come out to find out
what was happening in the
deceased house.

Osun, Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola, in company of
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole
Soyinka, yesterday visited
Igbale Aiye, a village believed
to be the origin of mankind.
Igbale Aiye community, said
to be 450,000 years old, is in
Apotoku, Ketu (Commune de
Ketou), Republic of Benin.
Speaking during the
Convention of ‘The City-
Headquarters of
Humanism’ (Igbale Aiye),

of Governor Amosun,

Olofindji Akande, the
promoter of Igbale Aiye
project.
They called for concerted
efforts to promote African
culture and values.
Amosun promised to
support the project in line
with his administration’s
vision to promote the African
culture. He said Ogun had
been associated with many
firsts and “this project is first
of its kind.”
Aregbesola said further
research should be carried
out on the link between the
Egyptian Pyramids and Igbale
Aiye.
For his part, Soyinka said the
Centre for Black Culture and
International Understanding
had adopted the Igba Aiye
initiative because of its
historical significance.
The visitors were conducted
round the relics of the
450,000-year-old
underground village said to
host the first inhabitants of
our planet world “where the
builders of the pyramids of
Egypt came from.”
The two governors and
culture icon later planted
banana trees to

Politics › Re: Anenih Seeks Automatic Ticket For Jonathan & Others by Tolexander: 2:54am On Jun 01, 2013
The Chairman of the Board of
Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples
Democratic Party, Tony Anenih,
has proposed an automatic
second term ticket for
incumbent president
and
governors who perform well
in office, thus seeking to
boycott the usual primaries.
i can see anenih starting to demonstrate the soul and sole reason why he was brought in to head the PDP BoT instead of other candidates.

When talking about the good performances of all the party's governors and the president, what yardstick do they have to measure these? Is it the degree of the kleptocracy, ironycrazy or chop-make-chop-crazy that the current and past dispensations have been demonstrating?
Good governance is known and recognised by the governed though may not be obvious to the party that harbours the governors but the power to reelect the governors is with the governed if left in a free and fair democratic atmospheric contest which will be determined by their previous governmental records and achievements!

Crime › Woman Uses Toy Gun In Lagos Alleged Robbery by Tolexander(op): 8:37pm On May 27, 2013
Lagos – A 25-year-old woman, Esther Obianuju, who allegedly attempted to rob a woman of her valuables with a toy gun, was on Monday arraigned in Lagos.

Obianuju is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted robbery at a Lagos High Court, Igbosere.

The accused, whose address is unknown, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Mr W.A. Quadri, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 2, 2012, at No. 159A, Akerele Extension, Surulere, Lagos, at 2.45 p.m.

He said that Obianuju, who was armed with a toy gun, conspired with others and attempted to rob the complainant, one Miss Rukayat Abdulsalat, of her valuables.

Quadri, a state counsel, sought an adjournment to enable the prosecution to gather witnesses and evidence.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 296 and 298 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Mr Sporgeon Ataene, counsel to the accused, informed the court that a bail application had been filed and urged the court to consider it.

Justice Christopher Balogun, after listening to both parties, adjourned the case to June 11 for the hearing of the bail application.

He fixed July 9 for the substantive criminal trial. (NAN)

Politics › Woman Loses Twins Over Doctor’s Fear Of Being Kidnapped by Tolexander(op): 1:31pm On May 27, 2013
BY PETER OKUTU
ABAKALIKI-A woman
identified as Mama Twins
residing along Diamond
Point road, Abakaliki,
weekend lost her twin
babies because her doctor
friend (names withheld)
refused to open the gate to
his private hospital for fear
that his clients were
kidnappers.
It will be recalled that a
Consultant Paediatrician, Dr.
Pius Chuka Manyaike with
the Federal Teaching
Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA
was on 5th May kidnapped
by unknown gunmen while
entering his private hospital
at No. 5A Owerri Street,
Abakaliki but was later
rescued after one week in
the hands of his abductors.
Vanguard learnt that the
woman who went into
labour at about 2am of the
fateful day drove to the
hospital (name withheld) in
company of her neighbour
and first son; made frantic
effort to enter the hospital
but couldn’t because the
doctor allegedly didn’t give
directive that the gate of his
hospital be opened at that
time of the day.
It was gathered that the
doctor who refused to open
the gate to
hospital allegedly suspected
that his clients were
kidnappers, considering the
time and manner they
arrived his hospital; not
knowing that his assumption
were not true.
A source close to the hospital
stated that it was not the
ethics of the medical
profession for doctors to
refuse to attend to patients
especially those admitted at
the Accident and Emergency
Ward.
The source however added
that the doctor had
apologized to the woman for
his inability to attend to her
when she called at his
hospital and explained that
the recent wave of kidnap
and brutality meted out on
doctors in the state were
gradually restraining doctors
from performing their duties
as at when due.
In a chat with Vanguard, the
woman who was
alternatively rushed to the
Federal Teaching Hospital,
FETHA, after frantic effort to
see her doctor friend failed,
lost her twin babies as it was
gathered that she had lost so
much blood before she was
eventually attended to.
The woman who is a mother
of five children had been
delivered of two set of twins
years ago as the doctors
who attended to her at the
FETHA confirmed that the
babies she lost were equally
twins (boys).
Meantime, the State Chairman
of Nigeria Medical
Association, NMA, Dr. Chidi
Esike who appealed to
doctors to go about their
duties without fear stated
that the state government
had put machineries in place
to ensure the protection of
lives and properties in the
state.
“I’m appealing to doctors to
go about their duties; there
is no reason for them to be
afraid since government has
already assures of adequate
security at all times. We made
some recommendations to
government when one of
our colleagues was
kidnapped and I believe that
they (government) has taken
note of them”
