Thank God people are begining to say that they are not what they want people to beleive they are, so, if you are not what you are making people to beleive you are, then shut up and speak no more because you are begining to stink as a pest in here, as a sore that refuses to go away.

So every law of the land must be questioned instead of obeyed? I am alarmed! How can the country become better? Looks like we are doomed.

naijaking1:

One reason why things continue to get worse in Nigeria is because there're people who continue to defend evil. For those people, I say wait till you're in the hospital, critically sick, lying on a strectcher waiting for an operation only to discover that of all the people dressed as surgeons nobody actually ever attended a surgery residency program. Then and only after that will you understand the disease called mediocrity.

Noone is defending evil, all we are saying is this, we all know things are bad, fine, what do you have to contribute to make it better instead of ranting the obvious? A man who said he is a Lab Scientist was asked how he will improve the health system in Nigeria if made the health minister, do you know what he said, he said he has no idea, yet, he is the one spearheading the repetitive and boring statements about the bad state of our health delivery, which we all know of course, but the question is, what will u propose to be done to make it better, this same man, if appointed has no vision and the vision he has is how to line his pockets with millions of dollars, why, because he gat no vision or mission on how to make things better.
Politics / Re: Nigerians In The Diaspora Making The Return Journey Back Home. by tombola: 8:46pm On Apr 25, 2009
Marjorie09:

I had been thinking quite a bit about returning, but a lot of things I read and hear are scary. On one hand I hear some people complain that people with international experience are preferred over locals, on the other hand I hear that there is a lot of antagonism towards returnees.

I love my career and I am comfortable and I think even happy, but sometimes I feel like a traitor fleeing the country I grew up in and not giving back. I ask myself, am I patriotic enough to die for my country or even endure the same dehumanising experiences I went through whilst growing up? The irony of it all is you don't get away from it all over here. In Nigeria you are treated like crap when you do not have money or do not know someone important. Over here you cannot help wonder sometimes the reason someone has reacted negatively towards you - ones personality or just the colour of the skin. Like the first black FTSE 100 CEO said, thinking along colour lines just makes life more difficult, but when that promotion does not come or your daughter is not accepted into a school for no justifiable reason - you start to wonder - especially when the mother of the girl concerned was born and raised over here. What do you have to do to be fully accepted I wonder? Who knows, maybe it was not the colour of her skin - maybe she just had not reached the right rung of the social ladder. Which makes me think one should stay where at least you have a faint opportunity of making something of yourself on merit.

Maybe it is better to make my 'new' home my permanent one and give up this idea of contributing to my country of birth. After all, what do I have to give that does not exist already in that rich country of ours  - oh so full of resources - both human and material? Perhaps my allegiance should belong to the new home that has provided a relatively safe environment for me to live decently. Maybe I should make retirement plans with friendships both old and new cultivated and flourishing in my 'new' home.

But then why am I so melancholy? Why do I hate what I have become - cold and much too polite. I miss the joy of being loudmouthed once in a while in  a good restaurant without getting stares or even just watching the raucous created by some woman who does not get her way at a bank  smiley (I hear if I want to get some of that I should just visit the Nigerian consulate - better than the entertainment value of watching Umoja they say)

I love my country, I love the green passport - I do not want to trade it in for the convenience of being treated 'normally' at passport control - or am I just being much too stubborn? How will they know there are quite a number of honest hardworking Nigerian passport holders? Maybe I should just give it all up to become a See the family once a year, visit by invitation only , don't give a damn If I don't attend your child's naming ceremony britonised Nigerian'!

Please forgive the airing of my thoughts - just wondered if there were fellow torn/confused Nigerians out there,

This is one of the great minds on NairaLand - poster, I give it up to you, for your sincerity, for the truth you told, and for daming all nay sayers- you are a real human being. May you live long.

Politics / Re: Ndlea Arrrests 38 Drug Suspects At Lagos Airport In 3 Months by tombola: 1:43pm On Apr 25, 2009
ElRazur:

Perhaps if there is a slight increase in amount people live on in a day, an increase in GDP and other things, perhaps we shall see a drop in number of people seeing the need to get rich this way. Let's not forget that these things are happening as a result of various combination. One of them is poverty.

Na wa o - the way some people reason is just out of the ordinary. So because they are hungry, they are right to resort to drug peddling? Have you seen these kingpins and drug peddlers and talk to them? Do they tell you it is hunger that pushed them to do what they did? Poverty! So all of the poor people in Nigeria should resort to drug peddling and various crimes to live right? Your thinking makes me want to poo in your nose, if the hole is big enough.

ElRazor

You are in the medical field - if you are to assume the role of Minister of Health today, please let us know what you will do to make our health facilities one of the best in the world, i.e. commensurate with what you have seen where you live,, I ask you to do this because you seem to be very knowledgeable in the filed you fould yourself - apart from lining your pockets like the diasporians who came home to become Ministers and governors did, what will you do, please, this is a serious issue.
Politics / Re: Nigeria 4th Worst In Medical System - Who Report by tombola: 12:51pm On Apr 25, 2009
This man ElRazur is a laboratory scientist, yet, he claims his profession is not in Nigeria - who says so, back in my youth service days, I had friends who do exactly what you said you do, and what did they train as, they trained as laboratory scientists -

When last have you visited any hospital in Nigeria, or maybe the ones you visited are the ones in the rural places where you are opportuned to live b4 you travel? Or you want to tell me that all hospitals or clinics where you are have the same equipment and diagnotic tools as others? We know Nigeria is not as good, you dont need a sooth sayer to tell us this - what are you as a person doing to remedy the situation, apart from claiming your field is not developed in Nigeria, what else are u doing about it? Even there are space scientists in Nigeria, contributing to reserarch and co, talkless of a mere lab scientist.

@Tpia

I read the "our thinking faculty" as "your thinking faculty" na im make me spark like matches.

Honestly, I hate people who pick on the negative side of things and blow it like no man business - and these same people are Nigerians, when you talk, they say you are a government apologist and you are pained because you cant travel out of Nigeria. Nigeria must be a living hell from the way things are said here, but yet, millions live and are happy with their life.

Too many stupid people acting as wise men on NairaLand - if the man increases salary by 1%, all of you will shout blue murder - now he cuts it and still you are all shouting, i havent seen so much cynical people all my life.
Politics / Re: Yar'adua Cuts Salary Of Ministers, Himself, Etc By 20% by tombola: 10:06am On Apr 25, 2009
Frank-C:

Yar'dua will end up worse that we think. He is not just intellectually capable of leading a local government in the south not to talk of Nigeria, i think that he is also very corrupt and wicked too.

Tell me, any fool who has good intentions will never assign Akunyili her present portfolio. He will never back this type of AGF. He will never play the kind of role he is playing in Ekiti re-run campaign. The guy is just a serpent. Full of tricks and bad intentions.

25billion could be saved in two weeks from two ministries if at least Ribadu type of EFCC is restored in Abuja. He should stop deceiving himself and keep quite for the next two years, and go so that Nigeria can re-start her journey to reasonable nationhood!

Can you back up all these sayings with facts?
Politics / Re: Nigeria 4th Worst In Medical System - Who Report by tombola: 9:53am On Apr 25, 2009
@Poster

What is your problem distorting stories? A story carried May 22, 2008, you are saying it is a story of April 24 2009?

What is the matter with you? Where in the report is it stated that it is a WHO report?

Not only are Nigerians illetrates, they are fools as well - well, I am not surprised, even the so called travelled fols, they seem to be the worse off for it, look at the comments that followed the wrong report - do they even read? if they read, do they understand?
Car Talk / Re: Is It A Crime To Drive Right Hand Cars In Nigeria: ? by tombola: 9:46am On Apr 25, 2009
this is the problem with Nigeria, break rules and go scort free with it - ok, its like someone asking the question, is it a crime to spend the pound in Nigeria? I guess someone will argue, it is not a crime to spend the pound in Nigeria because even though we changed our currency to the Naira, it is still up to you to spend the pound or not - this is the main reason why Nigeria will never progress, people refusing to take the laws of the land seriously, what a shame -

RHD cars had been outlawed, while do you want to drive a car type that you know that has been outlawed? And all people do is to blame government for everything, shio.
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Beyonce? by tombola: 9:36am On Apr 25, 2009
must Nigerian artist always copy an international artist before they make meaning in their career or what?

Nigerian Beyonce? what ever does that mean? If Beyonce called herself American Onyeka Onwenu when she started her career, will anyone listen to her? Now you are looking for Nigerian Beyonce - have you heard South African Artiste nomenclating themselves foreign names to sell themsleves? Nigerians are illetrate peeps.
Romance / Re: Help, I Impregnated My Girlfriend by tombola: 9:31am On Apr 25, 2009
honestly speaking, you are a lucky man. You mean your girlfriend is pregnant? Wow - this is what some families had been praying to God for, and they have waited years for an answer, and this is what you just got without blinking an eyelid? Look, you need to do a big big big celebration, you need to bless the name of almighty God, that is what you should be thinking of doing.

Look, there is no two way about it, you are already a father, even if you pray from now till tomorrow for a mis carriage, you are making a mistake, even if you like pray hard for the girl to say you are not the father, you are already making a mistake, and if you try abortion, it is you who will die in the process, not her or the baby, it is your intestines they will remove and put on the show when she goes for abortion, look, i congratulate you for your effort in impregnating your girlfriend, it is not an easy thing.

Do you need party shoes for the naming ceremoney, or traditional aso oke, dont worry, I am ready to supply you for free, dont worry, are you thinking how you will foot the bill of the party? Come to me, call 08076789876, ask for Tombs, Tombs, Tombs - you have nothing to worry about.

No - the article is saying, all those diasporic egg heads who have nothing doing abroad should go back home to Nigeria and do something worthwhile for themselves instead of ruining the reputation and credibility of Nigeria.
Politics / Re: Nigerians In The Diaspora Making The Return Journey Back Home. by tombola: 10:43pm On Apr 24, 2009
Majority of the politicians spoiling the country today had been diasporians - James Ibori, Ayo Fayose, Bola Tinubu, and I am sure the list goes on, what they stole in grandeur was all commensurate with the life style they were used to abroad, if they saw what life was abroad b4 they became governors, why didnt they replicate life abroad in the states which they governed? I ask over and over.

Kobojunkie:

So what if my message here is to highlight the obvious? So what if my posts are intended to do that? What is that to you? What if I, or anyone else here chooses to come on here to rant focusing on the problem? Why do you have to create yet another divide with all that?

You accuse people of LYING but have yet to post proof of the lies, why do you do that? What good does it do you? What good do your posts attacking mine or anyone else do to help the fate of the 5 million you mention? What good? Don’t you see what you are doing? Is it wrong for individuals not to approach the issue the same way you choose to?

The country is suffering from the tribal divides, why fuel this made up NIN vs NID divide by your continuous attempt to cast blame on NIDs when you willingly admit these problems exist outside of the NIN and NID divide?

Meaning? Agressive minority should not force their views and tastes on everyone !
