Wema probe: Police says more heads to roll

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Investigations, Mr. Keran Dudari, on Tuesday in Abuja said that more bank executives would be arrested in connection with alleged financial shenanigans at Wema Bank Plc.

Dudari told the News Agency of Nigeria that “many banks are involved in the scam and many of the personnel are managing directors of their respective banks.”

“We will arrest, investigate and prosecute all those involved.”

Dudari said that the Special Fraud Unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department had already arrested many suspects in the probe.

“I can confirm to you that many of them are being detained and many more bank officials will be arrested I do not want to give more details because it will jeopardise our investigation,‘‘ he said.

The Managing Director of the Wema Bank, Mr. Adebisi Omoyeni was arrested on March 26, in connection with a case of alleged forgery of the minutes of board meetings. - Punch

NigComSat to hold 15% NITEL equity
By Everest Amaefule, Abuja
Published: Monday, 31 Mar 2008
Baring any last minute reversal, 15 per cent out of the 27 per cent equity interest reserved for the Federal Government in the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, will be bequeathed to the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited.

This is part of the recommendations of the presidential committee set up by President Umar Yar’Adua to reconcile the position of the Nigerian Communications Commission and the quest of NigComSat to acquire a spectrum to offer last mile telecommunication services.

The committee, chaired by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, is made up of top government officials including the Minister of Information, and Communications, Mr. John Odey and that of Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre.

Others are the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Mr. Ernest Ndukwe; Managing Director, NigComSat Limited, Mr. Ahmed Rufai, and Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mrs. Irene Chigbue.

On the other hand, the National Committee on Privatisation also chaired by Jonathan, has also received the submission of its technical committee led by the former Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, Mr. The Great Prophet Hayatudeen.

The report had recommended 27 per cent stake for the Federal Government and an equity of 22 per cent for current majority stakeholder, Transnational Corporation.

This means that the Federal Government will cede 22 per cent from its current 49 per cent holding, while Transcorp will cede 29 per cent from its current 51 per cent holding.

Integrating the two reports, part of Federal Government’s 27 per cent stake in the First National Operator will be bequeathed to NigComSat, which has made a case to enter into provision of telecommunications services to end users rather than being restricted to the provision of bandwidth to operators and other clients.

Our correspondent also learnt that the Federal Government’s reserved shares of 27 per cent may also be split further to accommodate First Bank, which had lost $100m in 2002 to Investors International of London Limited in the bid to acquire 51 per stake in NITEL.

Now you can see the hope of TRANSCORP now.

I havent bought shares before and would like to start with this Daar Communications own.

Please i need advise, is it a good deal to start with. I asked a colleague of mine who is into shares and he said Daar may not do well in the market.

My boss is also into big time shares, right now he isnt bought Daar shares yet.

Should i go ahead and buy?
i think daar communications is ok,
but dont buy more than 1000units
cos if you buy anything above 1000units just be ready to collect greater percentage of
your money back after 4months

Is kind of hard to make good money with stock if you don’t have good money
my brother in every thing we do in life we must have something at the back of our mind
that we must always take first step b4 attempting the second step, cos jumping mght be risky.
you know if you keep you 50k in bank for 2months you can never get up to 10% interest
but you can get more than that on NSE you know.
so keep the faith alive. your time will surely come

DAAR Public Offer - investors to get certificate with 6 week
Posted Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Investors into the ongoing DAAR Communications Plc hybrid offering of Initial Public Offer (IPO) and offer for sale will get their share certificates within six weeks of the closure of the offer. Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of the company made this disclosure to Proshare NI.

According to Dokpesi, everything relating to the hybrid offering would be done electronically and with the latest technology, “you can download your forms from the internet, make your payments directly and shares would be allotted directly, and within six weeks of the closure of the offer; everybody should be able to have their share certificates” he said.

This Dokpesi says this would be a far departure from what has been, “we want to be the very first in that” he said.

He also invited Nigerians to be part owners of an industry which, according to him, will yield good Returns on Investment (ROI).

“Investors are going to have good returns on their investments, I don’t talk of percentages, I can alone assure you that the hybrid offer is very good, if you take a look at the prospectus, you will very conservative figures that have been placed there; and I am sure it could be better than that” Dokpesi said.

DAAR Communications is offering to the Nigerian Investing Public 1.829 million and 960 million ordinary shares of 50 Kobo each at N5.00 per share by way of subscription and offer for sale to raise N8.75 billion and N4.61 billion respectively.

Standard Alliance offers investors 4.75bn units ord shares
Posted Saturday, March 1, 2008

Standard Alliance Insurance Plc is to offer investors’ 4.75 billion units’ of ordinary shares of 50 Kobo each on the floors of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). This was disclosed to Proshare N/I in a financial document made available to it by a source at the Group Head Office of the Insurance Company.

Though as at the time of filling in this report much detail were not available as regards the offer. Our source at the Group Head Office of the company disclosed that application list for the offer would open March, 2008.

“We are almost concluding the offer process by the regulatory authorities in Abuja and as soon as they give their nod, I can assure you that by March, we would open the subscription or latest early April, 2008.

The document says going forward; the Board is taking proactive measures to shore up the share capital of the company voluntarily in view of the recent developments in the banking sector; where most banks are now targeting a capital base in excess of N100 billion.

This they have considered as appropriate at this time to approach the market to raise fresh funds.

In order to place Standard Alliance ahead of its other competitors and also to enable the company properly position each of their subsidiaries for better performance; therefore the need to approach the market and increase the authorised share capital of the company.

As at the time of filling in this report, based on the 2006 financials, Gross Premium of the company stood at N1.674 billion in 2006 from N1.273 billion in 2005 indicating an increase of 31.45 percent.

While Profit before Tax (PBT) also grew from N235.4 million in 2005 to N300.6 million in 2006 representing a 27.69 percent growth. Profit after Tax (PAT) was N198.8 million in 2005 compared to N253.1 million in 2006 indicating a 27.30 percent increase.

Without prejudice to the company, our source told Proshare N/I that the 2007 financial results are yet to be made public; therefore we are seeking your views on what you would do about an offer from Standard alliance.

Peeps on this forum should beware that megaupload is laced by very stubborn virus and spyware. It has bent my avast antivirus arm backward, deleted all my bookmarks and presented an unsolicited megaupload tool bar as at this morning. I have battled this nuisance unsuccessfully for weeks. I will appreciate advice from knowledgeable computer fellas in the house if there is any. Hard disc formatting? Last option.
bros i will advice to get norton antvirus for your computer cos avast is not known to be a strong antivirus,
after you might have got nortonantivirus go to there site (synmatic.com) check for spyware remover download and run it on your computer, am sure your computer will not remain thesame,
