You guys are clowns.
1. Whats d proof he's yoruba?

2. For the purpose of this arguement, lets say he's yoruba: at least we have someone with a contrary view to the profs. How many igbos have spoken up for kongi (Prof. Soyinka)? How many igbos speak against the wrong doings of fellow igbos??

3. You are the ones that make it tribal so long as u support yours in unison and in the same unison fashion attack theirs, so how wont it take an ethnic coloration?? Was this not the same thing that happened in Jan 15, 1966 thwt is still happenning till today? Or izit that u guys are so rribalistic that you dont even realize you are doing it??

If it was Osibanjo that Soyinka attacked and Igbos feel Osibanjo was right on the issue, they will criticize Prof. Even if it was an Igbo that criticized Osibanjo and we believe PYO to be right and the Igbo fellow to be wrong, majority of us will criticize the Igbo.

Dave Umahi tried to intimidate Laila Johnson Salami of Arise TV during a press briefing guess what, sensible Nigerians and a lot of Igbos criticized Umahi and stood with the courageous lady.
So call a spade a spade. It has nothing to do with tribalism.
Mind you, Soyinka stood with Biafra during the war and we respect that.

But on this and other contemporary national issues like the free fall of the naira vs the USD,he is attacking the wrong guy,PO.
Is Tinubu the president not responsible for the economic situation we find ourselves in?
Soyinka protested against GEJ about 10 years ago because of the state of the country,FX then was below N200/$ but now at around N1500/$ he has lost his voice because Tinubu his man is in power.
That's what is called hypocrisy.
People called him out because the respected his views before and are let down by his behaviors lately.
He is entitled to his opinion no doubt but if it insults the sensibilities of the masses, be sure they will come for him & he shouldn't term every hungry Nigerian that does so an Obidient because even some of Tinubu supporters are screaming Ebin pawa.

DMerciful:
Wole Soyinka said this then, called Obidients gbajue people, called out Datti for his interview and there were back and forth.

At a time, Obi, Obidients Datti all ignored him and everybody moved on. Why is he bringing back same issues?

He wants to set himself up for insults? What is the wisdom behind attacking Obi and Obidients at this time when he said he'd give his assessment of Tinubu's govt after one year.

The Prof is looking for something

He is entitled to his opinion no doubt but for the suffering citizens to regard him,he needs to respect his age and talk sensibly like an elder statesman.
The fact that Tinubu gifted him a property doesn't mean he should allow his conscience to be bought otherwise there's no difference between him and Reno.
So with the way Nigerians are suffering including BATstards, all that Soyinka can contribute is to attack Obi's personality in a menner that suggests he is out to demarket him but guess what, Nigerians don't seek the opinion of those who they feel align with their oppressors.
The economic policies of this government has plunged Nigerians into multidimensional poverty.
He protested against N200/$, petrol at N97 & GEJ's subsidy removal but became dumb when the FX got to N1500/$ with subsidy gone and petrol sold at N690.
This level of hypocrisy & double standards sure deserves a Nobel prize.

That's not necessary. I don't subscribe to that.
You don't seem to get it.
Lagos is in the SW & belongs to you guys,ok.
But it's development was not just by Yorubas.
In fact you have to attribute it first to the colonialists, the FG, corporations which developed it into a land filled with opportunities.
Then Yorubas as well as people from other tribes came in and built up the place and invested heavily
FYI, people from other regions of this country have more properties and investments in the SW( 95% because of Lagos) than the Yorubas have in any of those regions.
I hope you get it now

I know that's the wish of most of your tribesmen so they can get a chance to own a property in their region.
Nobody is dragging ownership of Lagos with you unless the person is just being mischievous.
Stop bragging with Lagos oga. It was a former Federal capital. The colonialists, later the Nigerian FG, business corporations, your people, people from other tribes as well especially the Igbos invested heavily & own properties there.
The other SW towns like Ibadan,Abeokuta,Akure,Osogbo & Ado Ekiti is your typical SW town.

This Soyinka is quite shameless. Someone paid you a courtesy visit and you were carefully monitoring his activities on his phone and even had the guts to tell it to the world. Is that how much this guy has belittled himself? That's quite petty,or was he working for Tinubu low key during that period because Balablu had gifted him a house years back?
Meanwhile he has seen the government he supports plunge the country into far more mess than they met it in 2015.
To think he was a part of those that protested against N200/$ and petrol subsidy removal.
He really deserves a Nobel prize for Hypocrisy.

amoreobansu:
Renowned Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has expressed strong views against the suitability of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, to lead Nigeria.

In a recent interview with Noble Nigeria, Soyinka noted the behaviour of Obi’s supporters, known as ‘Obidients’, during the 2023 general elections as a key indicator of his unfitness for leadership.

Soyinka criticised Obi for not curbing his supporters’ aggressive online behaviour towards those with opposing views, suggesting this failure demonstrates a lack of leadership capability.

The 89-year-old playwright and activists also accused Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, of encouraging these attacks against dissenting voices, including himself.

Soyinka further argued that Obi’s actions and the conduct of his followers showed a lack of readiness to lead a diverse and complex society like Nigeria, insisting that the former Anambra governor was in control of internet trolls prior to the 2023 election.

He said, “I hope for the sake of the nation that he doesn’t express interest in the next election because for me as a leader if there was any proof that he was unfit to lead that country, it’s in the conduct which he encouraged among his followers. I know for a fact, and I can give you an instance that proves that he was in control of those forces.

“But it is for me a sad phenomenon, especially for those who want to lead a multi-texture society, different religions, different ethnic groups, different world views and who actually want to preside over sub-groups as one, it means that have already declared themselves incompetent to lead such entity and that’s it.”

The Nobel Laureate further expressed his disappointment at Obi’s honesty and transparency, indicating that such behaviour casts doubt on his leadership qualities.

Soyinka recounted Obi’s first visit to him during the months leading to the presidential election, stressing that the LP candidate’s public statements contradicted the events at that meeting.

He said, “It’s simply because when he first came to visit me, you know, he did come at one time. And I watched him. I watched his actions and body language. It seemed to be very conciliatory.

“I remember the moment when he took out his (mobile device) after he made a statement like ‘Oh don’t worry. You don’t have anything to worry about these people. He was talking about ‘Obidients’. I remember he took out his phone, and he typed a message there. I was watching him very closely, I didn’t say a thing. And after that, everything seemed to be nice and cosy.

“And I saw and I read his statement about that meeting afterwards. The statement was a contrast to what actually happened, what we discussed, and I mentioned it in my response. It was a misrepresentation of what happened, and I made sure that I put a statement out saying ‘No, I’m sorry, this is not what was said. This language never came into it”.

Nobody is interested in whether the north & west have an alliance or not. It's within ur rights, after all there's freedom of association.

All we need is for such an alliance to realign the exchange rate back to around N200/ $, the price of a bag of rice to around N8000, petrol to N97/liter,indomie super pack to N50,bag of cement to around N1800, manageable cost of living etc to what it was before May 29, 2015. Difference between me and you is that, I talk based on reality while you talk based on fantasy.

You are talking based on the ideal position you want Nigeria to be. But I am talking about current Nigeria position.

It is simple. If you don’t want a governor to use stolen funds to finance your campaign, why not sought public donation and not in any way seek for governor support? If no one engage in it, there won’t be incentive for those corrupt governors like Wike to continue to pillage state fund to sponsor campaigns.

I repeat again, if I spend 50bn on your campaign for example, you better be ready to pay back my money when you get elected or else na ogun lakaaye go help us end our fight.

My brother you are entitled to ur views.

The joke is on you if you believe Fubara is a saint. He was working with Wike before and was even declared wanted by EFCC. Shey na that man come dey claim saint now? He is just as criminal as anybody else.

Until Nigeria politicians stop seeking help to get to position of power from powerful few, nothing will change. If I sponsor your election and expended billions on you, you better pay my money back after you get to the position or else you’ll see what traitors get for treachery.

@ the bolded:

With such a mindset, our society has no chance of getting better. Politicians embezzle state resources and use it to advance their owncourse, which in most cases leads to state capture with the interest of the masses overlooked and that's what you advocate.

Think in the best interest of ur society and stop reasoning like someone who is a tool in the hands of politicians.

I think most Rivers politician loyal to Wike are just a clique who believe Fubara is a betrayal of national repute. Fubara is treacherous, the fallout is just too sudden.

Wike naturally will not be able to offer those politician what Fubara will offer them considering the money chest that a Rivers governor have access to. But they still choose to align with Wike because loyalty is key and conscience won’t even make them just denounce Wike at this early stage.

Politicians generally don’t have conscience, but there are levels that even the worst politician will question his action. To be fair to Fubara, he also exercised some restraint at the early stage but treachery is still treachery either ways.

I like what Tinubu is doing, he is playing neutrality. So Wike team and Fubara team can fight to stupor and one eventually win over the other for sanity to resume.

We watch on the side.

The mentality of some of you really amazes me.

A governor/political leader that spends state resources to control his followers is what some of you applaud.
Wike requesting N2b monthly from Fubara is what you deem morally right.

I think the problem of our society can be found in the value system of the masses.

Sometimes I am tempted to believe that a people deserve the kind of leaders they get.

They have deported some ' Osun' indigene In Lagos, you are busy laughing and mocking Yoruba people. Immediately they start deporting people to Anambra and Ebonyi, no one must raise any noise and start quoting the constitution. Once they start deporting Igbos, you will have no excuse because they deported some 'Yoruba' people first.

The other tribes will keep quiet while you keep mocking everyone, you tend to assume because people keep quiet, they are okay with what you are doing. She has to get properly educated about true events and think before posting next time so she is NOT to be seen to be demarketing Lagos State or any other state based on misleading information or confirmation bias. Maryanne can easily land or get charged to court and get jailed subsequently for incitement, demarketing and defamation if those who are directly affected by her demarketing choose to take this up LEGALLY and she would lose in court!

As a woman who has been married to Kingsley Moghalu for 30 years now, she has to learn to be guarded before posting online so that it doesn't affect Kingsley's image. Kingsley Moghalu is one of those who give very constructive criticisms and I respect him for that. She expressed her opinion and you term it irresponsible.

Government made a businessman (Landmark) invest around $200 million in a project and in less than 20 years the same government is demolishing the business in the name of building a coastal road. If it was the government that built Landmark, will they demolish it? No. They would have found a way around it and still build the road.

So without her saying it,the message has been sent. Investors will be careful because this shows government can't guarantee the safety of your investments.
